Ezekiel !!
August, 2024 - Rest In Peace dear Mr. Ezekiel!
You
are so very loved, forever!!
Meet
Ezekiel !!
He's feeling lots better and he's a VERY happy Dude now...
Here's
his happy ear-do!!!
Ezekiel
was known as "Harrison" while he was at the shelter.
He was picked up from the streets by animal control as a stray,
covered in ticks, barely being able to walk. Ezekiel was not originally
fostered with our rescue; he was originally being fostered thru
the county shelter, where one of our very long-time fosters and
Dobie godparents saw him on the shelter rescue-needed/euthanasia
page, and thought this was a dog that needed a home to spend his
final days in. The fosters believed that the shelter would take
care of his medical needs and make him comfortable. (Bella and
Sunshine Rescue originally declined to take Ezekiel because we
were so overwhelmed with medicals/foster/boarding issues as it
was.) Well, in short, the shelter didn't do much to help him.
They did x-rays, but no pain meds for the hip. They gave him doxycycline,
but he started to get worse and the shelter didn't help or change
his medication. So basically he just existed in pain, and with
an upper respiratory that was getting worse each day.
The
fosters ended up taking him to our vet to get him medication even
though they weren't supposed to do that because it wasn't "our
dog" yet, but he probably would have gotten worse; instead
his pneumonia improved quickly after the medication change. The
private vet also put him on some meds for his hip and he's able
to prance around a bit now. Because he was a medical case, only
a rescue could take over his care and ownership. So of course
BS&R wasn't going to let the poor dog stay under the limited
and lacking care of the shelter any longer. So I told the foster
family if they commit to fostering him for the rest of his life
(however long that is), I'd take him under our care.
Special Needs if any:
He's going to be a forever foster/hospice/medical. The femoral
head is not sitting properly in its hip socket; vet does not believe
anything can be done at this point due to his age and heart issues.
He has an enlarged heart. He's got pneumonia. When they picked
him up, he was covered in ticks and could barely walk. His
medical issues are being addressed one by one while he basks in
the love and care of his foster family.
Geographic Areas: California
and the surrounding states but Ezekiel will unavailable for adoption.
