Welcome to doberman911.org, the website for Special Needs Dobermans (SND). We are an organization of people with a common goal of helping senior and special needs Dobermans. That need may be financial or it may be only information and/or moral support for the owner of a Doberman with a serious illness or injury. We will also aid in rehoming and fostering senior Dobermans. These Dobermans may be shelter rescues or they may already be much loved companions with a special need. Financial aid may be through donations or through avenues such as online auctions. Every precaution will be taken to assure that the need is real.

HELP ME
Give me the ugly dog with one eye, three legs,
and help me show that they're more than just a form and a face.
Give me the scarred dog, burned and slashed with hate,
and help me lead it away from that terrible fate.
Give me the deaf and blind dog, and help me show it the way
in the silence and dark of each of their days.
Give me the shutdown dog, depressed of mind,
and help me cherish their soul until their fears unwind.
Give me the old dog, bent and broken with age,
and help me fill their last days with an unending grace.
Give me the ugly dog, I'll leave the pretty one for you,
and help me show them they're worthy of love and joy, too.

Meet The SNDobes Helped With General Funds!!
These Special Needs Dobermans were helped with one-time grants from our most important fund, the General Fund. This fund is used to help Dobermans fortunate enough to find themselves in Rescue Groups. Assistance is only provided for extraordinary expenses. These grants can be augmented by your generous contributions to any of these precious Dobes!! Private owners will be provided the necessary information to help them fundraise for their own Dobes as well as being given information to reduce their costs for medications and ways to seek additional information about Doberman illnesses.
Aaron
!!
|
December, 2021: It is an honor to introduce dear Aaron, a beautiful year-old baby originally from south of the border. Aaron was transferred from a rescue in Juarez, Mexico to the loving hearts of High Desert Doberman Rescue in New Mexico just before Christmas Eve. By looking at his pictures, one would never know this beautiful little pumpkin has so many problems... Poor Aaron not only is heartworm positive (surprised?), he has suspected cardiac issues perhaps due to his HW infestation – and, if that weren't enough, he also has some very concerning seizures. Not that it would have made a difference, these issues were not shared (if they were known) by this rescue there. It is very, very fortunate that Anthony and his angels at HDDR now have this baby under their care. He was immediately taken to their trusted vet where his seizure medication was changed from gabapentin to keppra and the seizures are now all but gone. Aaron has additional appointments in the coming week to address the HW and to investigate the cause of his cardiac inflammation. To look at this beautiful baby boy, one would never think he has so many health problems, but Anthony and High Desert Doberman Rescue have just the caring hands, excellent vets and a team of dedicated, loving fosters to make Aaron achieve the pinnacle of health that he should be enjoying. Obviously, with all the medical troubles little Aaron has right now, his vet bills are already getting steep - but take a look at this little guy's face! High Desert Doberman Rescue continues to do whatever they can for all the Dobes under their care, but this does not come cheaply as we all know. This wonderful organization has come to Special Needs Dobermans for help with Aaron's climbing expenses. Please remember that sweet, beautiful face and make a donation for Aaron at SND. Every single dime will go to his care, and you will be assured that SND will make sure Aaron will get the very best of care. You can begin helping now by using USPS or PayPal to send your gift. Just click on the links to see how you can too can join Aaron's Army! (If using PayPal, please click on the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ links if able to save fees.) And, until the end of the month, Secret Santa will match your donation dollar for dollar!! Want another look at a handsome young DUDE? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. THANK YOU. Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager and Hesper (assistant case manager and rescued DobeLady) - Cheerleaders for Aaron. |

Honey
!!
|
December, 2021: Today I bring you not one deserving Dobe, but four! Let's start with the matriarch, shall we? It just doesn't seem right that Honey, only 2 1/2 years old herself, should be raising her third litter. She should still be doing puppy things. But that is what happens when backyard breeders/hoarders get their hands on our lovely dogs. Thankfully the owner-breeder, an older man, finally realized he was in over his head. He decided to surrender a lucky few… Honey was one whom he felt deserved a better life. Where was that sentiment 3 litters ago? But he was most certainly right--she is the sweetest, most gentle, loving Dober-girl you could find. He took them to a municipal shelter, and you know what? That local underfunded shelter was the best thing that could have happened to this sweet girl! The shelter was bursting at the seams with even more Dobes on the way. They turned to the Humane Society of West Michigan for help. HSWM often takes their more difficult medical cases and didn't hesitate to reach out with help. They are truly dedicated to helping every animal, little did they know what a BIG case this would prove to be! Honey came in late on a Friday and was obviously pregnant. The wonderful Angels at HSWM didn't think she belonged in a kennel over the weekend so she went home with one of the staff and settled in all nice and cozy in a spare room. Lo and behold in the morning the staff member found not only Honey but 5 newborn pups! Talk about being saved in the nick of time! Unfortunately one of the puppies did not live, but Honey has been an amazing mother to her remaining pups. Her name says it all! You have probably figured by now that these sweet pups are Dobes 2,3 and 4 in today's story but we haven't talked about Honey yet… not really. You see the breeder had mentioned vWD in his line… Yes, this (you supply the adjective) person was KNOWINGLY breeding vWd dogs. Honey had to be tested, as well as the seven other Dobes in their care, all assumed to be her pups. Honey has the condition, requiring 3 bottles of cryoprecipitate to undergo her well-deserved spay. (She must have a guardian angel to have whelped 3 times without complications…). No more babies and she is so happy! She came through the surgery with flying colors and is doing wonderfully. She's one step closer to a forever family that will love her sweetness. HSWM has gone above and beyond caring for Honey and her crew. SND would like to help reduce the drain on their finances caring for our own. We should be there… The vet bill is big. When a group of caring folks like the ones at HSWM takes in and saves our own, we cannot do otherwise! Testing (not free), 3 bags of Cryoprecipitate, plus the filter for the infusion. I like to think we take care of our own and won't turn our back on Honey. What say you? You can begin helping Honey by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, the gift option even saves the fees! USPS works too and I'll be using it myself while Secret Santa is here! Every penny will go to Honey, (we'll talk about the pups later)… I am always so thankful for this Doberman community! Want a picture of the beautiful Mom... with her babes in the inset family portrait? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. Thank you so much for caring!! Carol Belknap, Honey's SND Case Manager and fan. |

Sealy
!!
|
December, 2021: Look at that puppy face! Baby Sealy is one of Honey's last pups. Saved from the hell of a back yard breeder in the nick of time, she was born in the care of Humane Society of West Michigan, and raised by the phenomenal Honey. Her life did not start in a greeder's shed but in comfort and love. She is the sweetest of the litter--her foster's favorite! A cuddler and a lover. She is unfortunately afflicted by vWd, as is her mother, Honey. She will require only 1 bottle of the clotting factor before her surgery along with the filter. Of course, that's on top of her testing too. This cute little morsel will be running up quite a tab! SND has joined with HSWM to care for her, won't you help too? No amount is ever too small, she's just a little puppy after all! Secret Santa can't wait to double your donation! You may begin helping Sealy by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Using the gift option even gives her more! You may also mail one in, it's all good! Thank you for reading part 2 of the greeder saga and hopefully you'll hang in for the final 2 below!! There she is in her family portrait? It's small but CUTE!! Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. Thank you so much!! Carol Belknap, Sealy's SND Case Manager. |
|
Aria
!!
|
December, 2021: Aria is part 3 of this particular greeder saga. She wasn't lucky enough to be born after reaching safety but spent her first year in the control of her unscrupulous breeder. Let's review shall we? This is someone who DELIBRATELY breeds vWd dogs. This poor girl and 2 of her littermates were transported together. It was traumatic for all involved. These dogs had no idea AT ALL about leashes, leaving their yard or getting in a car. All 3 pancaked (we all know about prying a scared Dobe off the ground, right?). Their stress level went extreme during the 20 minute drive to the shelter and one night in the shelter just made it worse. Luckily one of HSWM's Rescue Angels was willing to take all 3 into their home. They have spent a tremendous amount of time on leash training, car rides and all round socialization. All 3 now enjoy harness walks--as long as they're together. They aren't quite ready to go it alone. Needless to say, Aria is also vWd affected. She required 3 bottles of clotting factor along with another filter for her spay surgery. This Doberman family is positively sucking the funds right out of HSWM!! Please consider helping Aria and her Rescue Angels in any way possible! You may begin helping Aria by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, using the gift option helps even more. Of course you can mail one in, that's what I do. And don't forget to make Santa Pay!!! Thank you and hang on for part 4 next! Carol Belknap, Aria's SND Case Manager. |
|
Jonathan
!!
|
December, 2021: Last but certainly not least, we come to my personal favorite, Jonathan. He, like Sealy, was born to Honey in safety. However he is obviously the 'special' member of the litter. He was born with odd scarring and strange growths we probably never will understand… He also carries the vWd factor and has required the testing, and special pre-op preparations. But he's just a little boy and only needs 1 bottle of the expensive cryoprecipitate before his surgery! The growths will be removed and sent for analysis and I hope we hear good results soon! I certainly wish him the best! Well, that covers my 4, but please don't forget all the money HSWM has had to spend on them all--I only brought you the vWd cases. Everybody surrendered had to be tested, spayed or neutered and all the other things that add up so quickly. HSWM is not asking for anything for them, 8 altogether but they didn't hesitate when the situation arose. Too many dogs created out of man's greed… Please consider helping HSWM and SND to help them and keep HSWM solvent for the critical work they do!! And, don't forget to make Santa pay! You may begin helping Johnathan by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, the gift option helps even more! USPS will get it here in time to help so don't hesitate to mail it! You can use USPS or PayPal to send your gift. How about a look at his family portrait? It's small but CUTE!! Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. THANK YOU!! Carol Belknap, Jonathan's SND Case Manager. |

Monte
!!
|
December,
2021:
Dear Monte is a 7+ year old fellow who was discovered at
a shelter in California. (He was listed as a ‘stray’,
therefore, as so often occurs, we have no background information on
him.) Dobermans typically don’t do well in the shelter environment
and Monte definitely needed moved from there - at his age and some mobility
issues AND being a Doberman - his date at the blue cocktail bar was
all but sealed. California shelters and rescues are even fuller
these days and a lot of scrambling began to give Monte a chance.
With the devoted Doberman rescue community working together, Monte was
transported many, many miles - from California to New Mexico, and placed
under the wings of the Rescue Angels of High Desert Doberman Rescue.
Upon arrival at HDDR, Monte had a full medical evaluation and
was diagnosed with 1) dehydration and 2) diarrhea, for which he was
provided medication, and 3) generalized weakness. The exam also
revealed possible myelopathy in the C1-T2 region. Since being
treated for the dehydration and diarrhea, Monte’s energy and strength
has improved, however he still needs a neurological work up which very
well may include a CT scan or a MRI for exact diagnosis. When
we hear CT scan or MRI, we know dollar signs $$ are going to wanting
on the way! Therefore, to complete this ‘gentle giant’s’
workup, the HDDR Angels have come to us at SND for assistance.
Let US come together, as the Doberman rescue community did, and help
Monte get his remaining testing done. NO donation amount is ever
too small! You can use USPS or
PayPal to send your gift. Just click on the links to see how you
can be a part of Monte’s team! (If using PayPal, please click
on the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’
links if able to save fees.) We all thank you so much for your
continued generosity! And, until the end of the month, don’t
forget to include the words ‘Make Santa Pay’ to have your
donation doubled!!! Want to see avery handsome DobeGent?
Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.
Very soon you'll be able to see more of this Gent following
the link we'll post to his own Senior Page - enjoy and maybe send him
some sponsorship love! THANK YOU!! Beth McCahren, Monte's
SND Case Manager. |

Azul
!!
|
December, 2021: Not much is known about Azul other than he is a very sweet blue boy approximately 2 years old. He was picked up from a local Humane Society by Doberman Rescue Alliance of Wisconsin. Unfortunately, he was hit by a car and his owners could not afford the medical treatment he needed. He has a "broken" pelvis which will need at least six weeks of bed rest, hopefully that is all. The Humane Society did xrays and thought the fracture was not bad enough to require surgery which would require pins and possibly plates. He is doing well in his foster home right now, even trying to put weight on his leg. He will be seen by another vet on December 20th for more xrays and a decision will be made at that time whether surgery is necessary. If so the costs will, of course, increase. The one thing in his favor is his age, the younger they are the faster they heal so we are keeping all fingers crossed. Azul has the sweetest face and when you see him, all you want to do is kiss that face! We have all had a less than optimal year and things are tight and people are hurting, but our faithful always come through for these sweet, wonderful creatures. We are asking again to do whatever you can to help Azul and Doberman Rescue Alliance of Wisconsin. Please help this boy and let all of your dog loving friends and family know about this sweet boy's plight. You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or mailing in a donation which will be matched dollar for dollar by our Secret Santa!! Thank you and Merry Christmas! Nancy Harwood, Azul's SND Case Manager. |

Spencer
!!
|
December, 2021: Spencer is a 3 year old looker, he's Dober eye candy. He's also a "stray", taken in by a Southern California shelter. If he had a family, they dumped him some time after he had a horrible accident. It is assumed he was hit by a car, leaving him in severe pain and with a non-weight bearing leg. Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore was alerted by the shelter, and were told they needed to rescue him by the next day at closing or not at all. Unbeknownst to them, he had already been sitting there for 4 days on a stray hold. Often "strays" are turned in by their own families who can't afford to fix them… possibly after 'giving it some time to heal' or, they just turn their backs and let nature or the county take their course. This pain is just horrible for this poor boy to exist under. He's in good hands now with the Rescue Angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue. His suffering has already been alleviated and after FHO surgery, he'll be almost good as new! Unfortunately this surgery is not free-or even cheap… but it is so very necessary. DPR and SND will fix him--but we need your help! Please begin helping Spencer by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Using the gift option even gives him more! With USPS, you could also send him an X-mas card, check enclosed! It is not only all good - it's even better being doubled by our own Secret Santa! Just say "Make Santa pay" and we certainly will make sure it is! Want to see what a handsome devil looks like? Pain or no, you can't hide noble! Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. Once again I thank you for helping our sweet SNDobies and for easing Spencer's pain. Thank you!! Carol Belknap, Spencer's SND Case Manager. |

Grace
!!
|
UPDATE
- November 30, 2021: Poor
dear Grace - she never stood a chance. What appeared to be emaciation
because of a broken jaw ended up as being diagnosed as the devasting
condition known as MMM and described by her vet team at VCA "Masticatory
muscle myositis (MMM) is an immune system disorder in which the dog’s
immune system identifies the dog’s own muscle tissue as foreign
and attacks it. The masticatory muscles are the muscles involved with
chewing. MMM causes these muscles to become swollen and painful. Dogs
with MMM cannot open their mouths without excruciating pain."
As her condition had progressed to such a severe level and her underlying
pyometra and extremely poor health sealed the only kind fate left to
her and Grace was helped to rest. Many tears were shed for this
dear one but she slept in the arms of those who cared. Thank you
RescueAngels for your efforts and the pain you take on because of them.
Rest in Sweet Relief and Peace dear one - we loved you dearly and will
miss you so. Please, let's not make the efforts on her behalf
go unassisted so they will be ready to extend their love to another.
Thank you. |

Victoria
!!
|
November,
2021:
Precious
Victoria is approximately one year old, still a puppy, and already she
has found herself on the evil side of a heartless and deranged waste
of space. We don’t have an exact history on her but the
following is what we know so far: The Rescue Angels of Doberman Pinscher
Rescue located in Fillmore, California were notified by a good Samaritan
that a young, blind Doberman needed a permanent home because the reporting
person was only able to provide a temporary safety net for her.
(The good Sam stated the Dobe had been blinded as a puppy by having
hot vinegar thrown into her eyes!! I just can’t fathom what kind
of unhinged monster thinks of torture like that and then actually follows
through with the act!) It just so happened the DPR Angels were
fortunate to have a foster family just waiting to help out and Victoria
was lovingly welcomed into their home. (Even though Victoria is
blind she is said to be a confident girl who enjoys the company of the
two resident Dobes.) Victoria’s prognosis and possible upcoming
procedures are unknown until she is seen by a canine ophthalmologist
and proper testing is completed. I don’t need to tell you
how expensive anything is in CA, and that includes specialists in the
veterinary field. DPR regularly takes on medical cases which is
why they’ve reach out to our SND family for assistance with Victoria’s
sure to be increasing medical bills. Can you assist this amazing
rescue? Please remember that NO amount donated is ever too small
and giving is so easy to do! You can use USPS
or PayPal (if using PayPal and you’re able to, please click on
the ‘friends and family’ and ‘send money’ tabs
as this will keep your donation ‘fee free’). The numerous,
incredible rescues as well as we at SND truly appreciate your dedication
and support to the never ending Dobes in need! Let us help Victoria
on her way to optimal health and enjoyment of life! Secret Santa
is adding to your gift by doubling it too!!! Thank you so much
for helping yet another deserving SNDobie!!! If you want to see

UPDATE
- December 3, 2021: After
spending almost a week at Bear Valley trying to recover from her massive
bleed after giving birth, she passed away immediately after spay surgery,
which Dr. Velasco said was the only way she would have had a chance
to survive. She lost that chance too...
with vWd, how
she had survived all the litters she had had baffled her vet.
She didn't die the way she lived, she was not a source of revenue -
she was loved and gently cared for. Rest in peace dear girl, we
will miss giving you the love we held for you. |

Gable
!!
|
November, 2021: Back in August, over 100 dogs were confiscated by Animal Control down in Louisiana, 40 of those were Dobermans. They were mostly under 4 years old. Six Doberman Rescues worked hand in hand to save them all. You may remember the event... This is the story of one of them. Meet Gable, he traveled over 1200 miles to find sanctuary with Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Pennsylvania's Rescue Angels. Gable was very thin, flea and heartworm infested. He also is very timid and afraid. Hands hurt -- or they used to anyway. He still has to learn the difference between then and now. He is doing well in his foster home and they cherish the breakthrough moments when he is able to overcome his fear and timidity for a few precious moments. This poor angel is terrified of everything - windows, doors, the garage, you name it. When he perceives anything he feels is a threat, he will hide in a corner and shake. He always has one foot lifted to run from everything his life has taught him. We have more than heartworms to kill, we have those demons to dispel and fears to calm. Our species did this to him, and it is going to be us that fixes him. Although they are continually speaking softly, reassuring him he is now safe forever and no hand will ever hurt him again - he needs more. Please consider joining DPRPA and SND in healing this sweet boy inside and out. You may begin helping Gable by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Using the gift option even saves the fees. USPS works too, it's what I do! Don't forget to include Secret Santa in your gift, doubling it!!! Thank you so much for helping yet another deserving SNDobie!!! Reece
!!
|
November, 2021: It's a Happy Turkey day for one year old Reece -- he won't have to kill a chicken to eat. Such was his life before Georgia Doberman Rescue took him in… He was totally uncared for and relegated to an outside pen with chickens right next door and not much of a barrier between - he HAD to kill to eat. Granted, his people were dirt poor themselves and the chickens were their food…). OK, now look down at those Dober-eyes looking up lovingly at you, can you picture them in such a life? I don't know about yours but my dogs don't have to kill anything but a stuffie! Poor Reece has never had any medical care and is, of course, heartworm positive. So he needs to lose the worms, and a couple other little things, before he can even peek at life with a forever family. Please consider joining GDR and SND in our battle of the worms! (Well, and the testes too, he bred with their other dog -- a Pug... oh my, that poor Pug! To begin helping Reece please click on the PayPal button to the right. The gift option even saves the fees--and it all helps. USPS works too!! As always I am most thankful to you - the Doberman community - for your support. Want to see a cleaned-up gorgeous DUDE? Boxer
!!
|
November, 2021: Our friends at Georgia Doberman Rescue join us at Special Needs Dobermans to present to you dear Boxer. This handsome, sweet boy is 7 years old and found himself part of the family tragedy of dementia. Boxer's Dad - who loves him very, very much has sadly been moved to an extended care facility because of his declining mental status. Our wonderful boy has always had the best care and boatloads of love and now resides with Georgia Doberman Rescue, where he is wowing his rescuers and foster with his sweet, handsome face and gentlemanly behavior. Soon, he will make some very lucky person a Dobe of a lifetime, but he has a little bit of a health problem which needs to be addressed first. When Boxer was brought in for his intake exam, everything checked out great except, the vet discovered a small growth on Boxer's anus - so small no one had noticed. His good vet took a biopsy and the results came back inclusive, so the next step is for our boy to have surgery to remove the growth and send it out to pathology to make sure it's something that won't turn into a concern. Poor guy! Georgia Doberman Rescue is a wonderful, but relatively small organization - founded by longtime friends of Dobermans. While Boxer's surgery could be considered somewhat minor, it still will put a strain on their finances and they have come to SND for help. Think of all the beautiful Dobermans Georgia Doberman Rescue has placed in loving homes and remember, rescues have limited budgets. Please send a donation to SND and help Georgia Doberman Rescue get dear Boxer in tip top shape, so he can go to his new, loving forever home. You can do that with just a click on the PayPal button to the right. The gift option even saves the fees--and 100% helps Boxer. The USPS works quite nicely too!! Thank you. Leslie Michell-Young and Hesper, Special Needs Dobermans Case Managers - Boxer's fan club presidents. |

UPDATE
- November 18, 2021: So very
sadly, dear Larry took a turn for the worse last night. Given
his emaciated condition, recovery was even more uncertain. It
became obvious that he could not survive without great suffering and
with much sadness and tears, he was allowed to go to rest. He
did not die alone but was in the arms of one of his BDR Angels.
You were dearly loved at the end of your life as you should have been
always. Given the extreme expense of this valiant effort, we are
featuring another picture of this brave Senior here - please visit him
here https://www.doberman911.org
and then honor his memory with your gift .
Thank you. RIP Sweet Prince, you will be missed. |

Jolie
!!
|
October, 2021: Abandoned, abused, afraid, alone, anxious, confused, dirty, hungry, injured, traumatized, unhealthy, unloved, unwanted. These are just a few of the scenarios that come to my mind when I think of the various, possible commonalities of ‘rescued’ dogs. A sprinkling of commonalities that come to mind regarding the many dedicated ‘rescuers’ are brave, empathetic, kind, unselfish, warrior. Introducing Jolie, who, at approximately 2 – 4 years old, is still just a youngster. She was found disoriented, unable to use her legs and refusing to eat (most likely from severe pain) as well as the inability to void or defecate on her own. These findings add up to a definite emergent matter regarding treatment that will end with a positive outcome! Yet, Jolie laid in a shelter for ‘at least’ TWO days in this horrible condition until the Rescue Warriors of High Desert Doberman Rescue located in New Mexico found out about her! The HDDR Warriors took immediate action to get custody of Jolie, then, with no time to spare, (due to the amount of time she was left languishing at the shelter) rushed her straight to their veterinarian for evaluation and treatment. It was definitely touch and go for a while as it was unsure if Jolie would be able to pull through! She needed several days of hospitalization with IV’s, urinary catheters, enemas, antibiotics, pain medications, xrays and many one on one hours of care from the veterinary hospital’s staff. Slowly, in conjunction with typical Doberman tenacity and dedicated medical intervention, Jolie began to improve to the point she was able to be discharged from the hospital!! She is now in a foster home undergoing rehabilitation for what was ultimately diagnosed as a bruised spine and fractured pelvis, most likely the result of a vehicular hit and run. Jolie surely would’ve seen ‘the needle’ of euthanasia if the HDDR Warriors hadn’t stepped in to save her! With all of the medical intervention provided, it’s obvious that, even though every cent was well worth it, saving Jolie came at a high dollar amount. HDDR has consistently stepped up to rescue and save countless Dobes, putting their needs to live a happy, healthy life first and foremost. To continue to do so, they have asked for assistance from our SND community. NO rescue can stay solvent without outside help. So I ask you to please help us help them. Trust me, NO donation is ever too small!! Your very much appreciated tax deductible donation of ANY amount can be provided via PayPal or USPS (If using PayPal and able to, please click on ‘friends and family’ and ‘send money’ to keep your gift ‘fee free’). The HDDR saviors and we at SND thank you in advance for your gracious support! Want to see a lovely lady once she was strong enough to hold her head up high? Petunia
!!
|
October, 2021: Her name is Petunia. She is guesstimated to be 6-7 years old. She was found on the mean streets in California, when mercifully, she was taken to a local shelter when, fortunately, Ardis’ Army from Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore was notified of her horrible condition. The shelter suspected pyometra with resorbing puppies or a hernia or all of the above - what they did say was that she was "not in good condition." As soon as her ‘dumped/stray’ hold was up, Petunia was immediately taken to DPR's veterinarians where she was diagnosed with a huge hernia the size of a squash along with what appeared to be advanced pyometra. This poor dear girl was whisked off to surgery where her hernia was repaired and her surgeon attempted to clean up the remains of her uterus. Petunia's genitals were in such horrible shape that a definitive diagnosis of pyrometra couldn't be reached. Through it all, this dear, sweet girl has remained steady, affectionate and loving. Her pictures show a dog that has been subjected to the extremes of indifference and neglect to the degree of allowing her to walk away to be picked up by AC where she was obviously NOT claimed. It appears that our Petunia once was a girl that may have been cared for many, many moons ago for her value as a breeder. She's definitely past her puppyhood and some faraway day in the past she was cared for... but she wound up discarded like trash to suffer terribly with injury and infection. Now, it is unknown if our sweet, beautiful girl will survive the horrors of this neglect. She remains hospitalized in guarded condition. Please send her all the positive, healing energy you can spare. As we all know, Ardis and Doberman Pinscher Rescue continue to take on countless cases of dogs whose lives would certainly be over without their dedication, love and help. At Special Needs Dobermans, we are proud of the hard work and the commitment of love that Ardis's Army has dedicated to helping Dobermans in need. They especially will need YOUR financial support to fight for dear Petunia's life. There are no estimates as yet as to how much it will cost for Petunia's medical needs... but we do know it likely will be in the thousands. Please send in a donation to SND for Petunia. With your help, Petunia will again be the breathtaking flower she was named for. You can begin helping by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Using the gift option helps even more! You may also mail your help and please remember that whatever you can give will go to Petunia's expenses - every cent! A larger size of her thumbnail here is one our home page and we'll get another once she's out of the woods. Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. Thank you. Tia
!!

October, 2021: I promised you a "twofer" and here's the two… This is Tia, the probable 2 year old, all natural daughter of Tamera. She also came in scared and skinny. Her teeth were horrible and, of course, she's also heartworm positive. She had to have several teeth pulled, leaving her with a snaggle tooth smile that will grab your heart! Of course she is also in the loving care of Sweet Melissa and her Rescue Angels at Bluegrass Doberman Rescue; like mother, like daughter. Tia has come a long way since coming into rescue. They had both been so scared all they wanted to do was hide, especially Tia. She has learned life can be very different than the "bad before" time, becoming quite the social butterfly. She loves to meet new dogs! She also has the Dobie smile--but adds silliness to it, keeping everyone laughing, even her ears will make you smile. She has become one happy young girl!! Please consider helping Tia get on with the rest of her life! BDR and SND are in, are you?? The worm wars may never end but we can't stop the fight! You can begin helping Tia by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. You already know to use the gift option if available… and USPS Delivers!! I double my thanks to you for this darling duo! Want to see a picture of Tia and her Mom? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. Thank You! Thank You!! Carol Belknap, Tia's SND Case Manager. |

Tamera
!!
|
October,
2021:
Today I'm bringing you a "twofer" - Two for one.
Too bad it isn't a twofer on the vet's bill! Let's start
with Tamera who is about 7 years old. It is presumed she is the
mother in this duo. Tamera was brought into a shelter in North
Carolina as a stray. She was traveling with another female Dobe,
possibly her daughter. She is scared and skinny and--heartworm
positive. She has taken a while to warm up but is good with all
but one of the dogs in her foster home and she's very positive she's
done with the puppy life. She likes a nice quiet life these days!
Obviously this girl has NEVER had anything of her own and is
enjoying learning about "stuff". Someone along the transport
gave her a stuffed pig and she does not like to part with it!
Melissa knew it HAD to go with her and took it to make sure it went--only
Tamera wouldn't get out of the car until she gave it back! It
still goes everywhere with her, it's really quite endearing. She's
also quite the accomplished thief. She'll steal earbuds, leashes
shoes--you name it--and it all goes in her crate. She uses that
winning Dobie smile to get away with it, she's just too cute!
And yes, I said Melissa, Sweet Melissa and her Angel Army at Bluegrass
Doberman Rescue. The heartworm's worst enemy! She will not
stop killing these damn worms and I will always make sure you know!
Please consider joining BDR and SND in Tamera's worm war!
You may begin helping Tamera by clicking on the PayPal button to the
right, the gift option even saves the fees. The Post
Office will get it there also and no help is too little to kill
a worm! It's all good as long as worms die and dogs live!
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support of
our SNDobies! Want
to see a picture of Tamera and Daughter Tia - yes she is very attached
to her... Just click right here

Rusty
!!
|
October, 2021: This Darling Dobie is Rusty who is: male, young (2 – 4 yrs old), sun-bleached, unneutered and was unattended. Need I say that this combination is a perfect recipe for a lurking disaster to happen? And, happen it did! Rusty was impounded by a small, rural animal shelter with an unusable leg due to an unknown cause. It was assumed he’d been hit by a car. An xray did reveal an older injury (so who knows how long this fellow had been hobbling about in pain)? However, this small shelter was unable to provide the means for treatment. The staff fell in love with Rusty and his sweet personality which led them to reach out to a former rescuer and through her, to the Rescue Angels of Dobies and Little Paws Rescue located in Fillmore California. Upon learning of sweet Rusty and his unusable leg, the Rescue Angels quickly took Rusty under their wings and had him vetted. He did have some local attention with chiropractic and laser therapies. The conclusion was that to have mobility of all four legs again and to be pain free, Rusty would have to have an FHO (femoral head osteotomy). Not inexpensive and when all is said and done, likely to be to the tune of $2K plus! Dobies and Little Paws continuously rescue medically challenged dogs, therefore, they’ve come to our SND community for assistance in bringing sweet Rusty back to health again to ready him for his furever home! Won’t you please help us in assisting this rescue who never says no to an animal in need? NO amount gifted is ever too small and to donate is easy! You can use USPS or PayPal (if using PayPal and able to, please click on ‘friends and family’ and ‘send money’ to keep your donation fee free). As always, the rescues who come to SND when needed and we at SND are forever grateful for your faithful generosity! Beth McCahren, Rusty's SND Case Manager. |

Tyson
!!
|
September, 2021: WOWZA! If you saw this gorgeous guy while walking down the street, he'd stop you in your tracks! Introducing breathtaking Tyson, who is now recovering and is safely a ward of Doberman Pinscher Rescue of California. This loveable hunk of cheesecake was owned by an individual in Los Angeles - but upon diagnosis with a bowel obstruction (after he had already endured 5 long days of this painful condition), his person balked at the expense of surgery and contacted Anthony of Doberman Rescue of New Mexico. No one is sure why a CA resident would contact a Dobe rescue in New Mexico, but Anthony contacted Special Needs Dobermans and Tyson was referred to Ardis of Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore. Because of the convoluted logistics of getting this beautiful 4 year old in their custody (surrender forms, financial responsibility forms etc.), Tyson was finally getting to be seen for surgery. He first was sent to a veterinary office that did not have a surgeon on duty, then, finally, a practice was located that could perform the surgery, but consent forms were still required to get the operation - to which Ardis responded promptly - then she waited all night long for confirmation. Finally, in the morning, Ardis learned wonderful Tyson had his surgery and was doing well. He's happy and recovering nicely, albeit he's a bit uncomfortable. Thankfully, Tyson did not have any necrotic areas in his intestine - what was found was a small piece of corn cob. With all the very worrisome twists and turns in getting this beautiful boy's surgery, it's rather amazing he's doing as well as he is. He still has a long season of recovery, but he is being spoiled and adored by his DPR Nurse, Colleen. His bill is nightmare inducing. With seeing two veterinary practices, bloodwork, surgical work up and the operation itself, we're looking at the higher end of $6000.00, probably more. Now, I want you to look at this guy's pictures... he is more than stunning - he's just about mesmerizing. That smile you see is saying "please donate to Special Needs Dobermans and help Doberman Pinscher Rescue recoup the costs of saving my life so they can save more of my fellow Dobermans!", please... Dobes like Tyson are saved every day by rescues all over the country, and Ardis and her army at DPR are one of the rescue leaders in helping these earth angels. By donating, you are not only saving lives, you are helping keep them afloat so more can be saved. You can begin helping by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Using the gift option helps even more! You may also mail your help and please remember that whatever you can give will go to Tyson's expenses - 100%! Want another look of our Chippendale Dobe? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. Thank you from the most stunning guy I've ever seen with a shaved stomach, Doberman Pinscher Rescue and me, Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager and Doberman Groupie. |

Morris
!! |
UPDATE
- October 23, 2021: Dear Morris
died in his sleep last night... he was in horrific shape when he was
rescued and of course, no one knows how old he really was but "ancient"
was a good guess. The comfort in his ending was that at least,
at the end of his life, he knew loving care. RIP Sweet Prince,
you will be missed. |

Pirate
!!
|
September, 2021: About 5 years ago Pirate was born. Life didn't get any more exciting after that. He just existed in the way dogs do when owners think they're doing a good job. All that "goodlife" ended when he needed medical care. Their idea of dealing with the situation was to dump him. Problem solved! He was picked up as a stray and was, of course, unclaimed. Lucky, lucky Pirate was sprung from his brig by Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California. At last! These people are helping me! Wow! And WOW certainly describes Ardis and her rescue Angels! Life is so very much better already! It took some work, though, and a bunch of money… He had hair loss and dermatitis and parasites of course - but, the big issue is his eye. His right eye was swollen and weeping, filling with matter constantly. He must have been horribly uncomfortable, and who knows for how long before his owners "helped" him out the door. Pirate has micro-ophthalmia in both eyes, with the right eye so small it wasn't visible behind his third eyelid. This condition is congenital so it isn't as though it was unknown when they acquired him. So he 'existed' like this for FIVE YEARS?? Well, yes, evidently. His DPR Angel, Nurse Colleen did the constant care needed and it was probably just as irritating to him as the condition itself, poor boy. The decision was made to remove the eye for Pirate's comfort and relief. Even with the cone of shame, he obviously feels so much better! Please join DPR and SND in funding his new life! Somewhere someone is going to love this boy for the rest of his life--and you can be part of that! Please consider helping Pirate by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Remember--the gift option even gives him the fees! USPS works too! It's all good for Pirate from now on - and so is your continued assistance to our SNDobies, you help no matter what we bring you! Thanks so much! Carol Belknap, Pirate's SND Case Manager, Arrrrr! |

Dojo
!!
|
September,
2021:
Dojo is the most laid-back senior boy you've ever seen.
He loves everyone, including the kitties. Generally speaking
he's just an all-around easy going old Dober-fella. This makes
his "family's" reason for dumping him hard to believe.
They said they couldn't keep him from jumping the fence and going after
the neighbor's tiny dogs and the neighbor was going to shoot him!
So to keep him safe they gave him up. Really nice of them, huh?
Dump the old, bald dog and get a puppy. I don't know this,
but I'm willing to bet there's a tiny fluffy something in his place
and everyone is happy. As is so often the case, being dumped will
save his life. Isn't that a horrible thing? He must lose
his home or his life. It happens so often--and frequently to Bluegrass
Doberman Rescue. Sweet Melissa and her Rescue Angels deal with
it all the time. He isn't just "blue bald", his thyroid
is low. He also has every kind of internal parasite you can think
of… really disgusting, poor boy. No big surprise--heartworms
are one of them. His condition sure shows that this easily preventable,
deadly disease was not part of the routine loving care he got from his
"family." The WORMS all must go! Please join BDR and
SND in yet another worm war. Help this old sweetie get ready for
a forever home free of parasites and uncaring owners! You can
begin helping fight the worms by clicking on the PayPal button to the
right. Using the gift option helps even more! You may also
mail your help and please remember no
amount of help is too small - Dojo appreciates it all! So do I
and BDR, heartworms being our mortal enemy. I sincerely thank
you for always stepping up in these worm wars, especially since there
is never an end in sight! Take
a look at this Gent - he's either singing or just asking for your HELP!!

Tate
& Shyla !! |
August, 2021: Tate and Shyla are two very bonded (pressed up against each other at every opportunity - just about glued!) six month old siblings who were taken into custody from an animal shelter by the Rescue Angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue located in Fillmore, California. Although Shyla was spayed by the shelter veterinarian, Tate was not neutered because he is a cryptorchid pup. This means that only one testicle has descended but makes surgery more complicated (abdominal vs. scrotal). That doesn’t sound like such a big problem, does it? The reason it is a major issue is because an undescended testicle can twist upon itself (torsion) as the pup matures causing EXTREME pain! As a matter of fact, the pain can be so severe the dog can actually go into shock! The only answer to this situation is emergency $$ surgery if not not addressed before it becomes a problem! Another major issue is the possibility of testicular cancer, which of course, needs to be avoided at all costs. Surgically speaking, an undescended testicle can be quite difficult to ‘find’ in the abdomen and not all veterinarians are up for the challenge. Need I say that a cryptorchid neuter is quite costly? But wait! There’s more! Two days after the pups were sprung from the shelter they became quite ill. First was Tate, who developed a fever followed by diarrhea and vomiting as well as a blood tinged nasal discharge. Shyla followed soon after with the same symptoms, minus the fever. A definite diagnosis regarding their illnesses (Parvo was ruled out) has not yet been determined meaning hospitalization, further testing and escalating charges. The DPR Angels consistently save Dobermans that need intensive medical care, and because vet bills rise fast and furious, they’ve come to SND for assistance with treatment for Tate and Shyla. Tate and Shyla are mere babies - together, let us see that they have every opportunity to grow into adulthood. Please remember that NO gift is ever too small! Your donation is tax deductible and every cent goes to the Dobe(s) who’ve touched your heart. Remember, this is a plea for TWO Dobes, each with their set of expenses!! Just click on the links below to read how to make your donation either by USPS or by PayPal (if using PayPal and able to, please click on ‘family and friends’ and ‘send money’ to make your gift ‘fee free’). All Rescue Angels as well as we at SND are more grateful than we can express for your continued generosity and support. Just look at these two - they are literally inseparable and inconsolable when not togther - touching. The second thumbnail shows Shyla with her head on Tate's neck as they left the hospital. Just click here for the larger version of #1 https://www.doberman911.org. THANK YOU all for being part of this happy tale!! Beth McCahren, Tate and Shyla's SND Case Manager. UPDATE: Shyla started recovering faster than Tate who remained quite ill for the first few days and then he slowly started bouncing back! They were finally released 8/27 and the happy BFF's were reunited!! Two more GREAT saves for the DPR Angels!! |

Angel
!!
|
August, 2021: Four year old Angel came to Georgia Doberman Rescue as an owner surrender. It's pretty obvious she has had at least one litter of puppies, likely more. Perhaps she's wasn't good at it any more? Who knows, but the owner surrendered this young, pretty girl and, as so often happens, it was a very good thing - for her! You see she has the horrible, dreaded Heartworm. My (Our?) sworn enemy! Her care should have included heartworm preventative in HW riddled southern states - but apparently it did not. Before she can begin the rest of her life being a Dober-Diva, she needs to lose da worms. Dem damned worms… well, you know me and you know it's sort of a thing with me… But I know a fair number of you feel the self-same way… The cost of treatment is a lot more than prevention would have been but the worst part is the physical toll it takes and will take on this poor girl's body! Please consider joining GDR and SND in another worm war. The rescues in heavy mosquito areas will always have this recurring need and are everlastingly grateful for all of you Worm Warriors who always step up to help. You may begin helping Angel by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, make it a gift and even donate the fees! USPS delivers, nuff said! You Warriors are so great I wish I had some cool badge to send you! Thank you so much for your continued support of our precious SNDobies!! Carol Belknap, Angel's SND Case Manager. |

Arlo
!!
|
August, 2021: Arlo has no known history and his life is starting now, with all of us. Something made him a good, loving boy - maybe it's just his Doberman nature. A stray, probably about 5 years old, he was received at a Northern California animal shelter. He was lame, with some muscle atrophy, ischial pressure sores and was underweight. The shelter staff were smitten with his sweetness and social behavior with both other dogs and people, even in a severely overcrowded environment. A month passed and his issues were mostly resolved, except for the lameness. His medical notes indicated his right hip was severely luxated out of the hip socket. Since he had chronic arthritis also, he had probably existed this way for a while. How can these dogs remain so sweet when in so much pain? The people at the shelter who had come to love him so much acted to get him to rescue, doubting a private adopter would have the resources for his needs. Arlo needs an FHO, Femoral Head Osteotomy. Ardis and her Rescue Angels at Doberman Pinscher Rescue didn't hesitate and Arlo has lived up to all the praise the shelter bestowed on him! The surgery was successful and Arlo is happily healing, listening to stories about his Forever Future. Please consider joining DPR and SND in getting this sugarplum back on his feet again! You may begin helping Arlo by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. The gift options even saves the fees! USPS always gets help delivered too! No matter how or how much, please help Arlo and this truly worthy rescue. As always, thank you for your unfailing support of our SNDobies! Want to see sweetness up close and personal? Rusty
!!
|
August, 2021: Rusty is a one year old intact male who was turned into a Florida shelter as a stray. Not long after his arrival, Rusty began to show signs of illness with profuse vomiting and severe diarrhea. This poor fellow was desperately ill! The shelter knew right away that this dire situation was more than they could manage, therefore they reached out to the Rescue Angels of the all breed rescue, Grateful Paws Dog and Cat Rescue. Their Rescue Angels wasted no time in having Rusty released from the shelter and into their care. At this point, Rusty was taken directly to a veterinarian to be evaluated. His diagnosis? A bowel obstruction which demanded life saving emergency surgery! As we are each aware, emergency surgery always comes at a cost, but this cost was nearly $6,000! Say what?? Six thousand dollars?? That bill is a high number for any rescue to cover, and that dollar amount is what led Grateful Paws to our SND community for assistance in covering this unavoidable cost. Rusty is now recovering from surgery and is in good and capable hands, however the surgical bill remains. When an all-breed rescue saves one of our precious Dobermans, we like to help as much as possible. Let us come together to thank Grateful Paws and show them how grateful we are by helping to cover the cost of Rusty’s emergency care. You can use PayPal (click on the tabs ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ if able to avoid fees) or the good old USPS. Please remember that NO gift is ever too small, it’s tax deductible and every cent will go toward Rusty’s account. As a reminder, each and every rescue as well as we at SND are forever grateful for your continued support in our combined mission to save each needy Doberman! Want more of this handsome Red Dude? Paisley
!!
|
August, 2021: Do you ever get the feeling that you're being channeled? That a spirit, somewhere, from a better universe calls out to you and smacks you right in the heart? Jane, the steadfast champion of Dobermans and founding member of Doberman Rescue of Atlanta, came across this sparkling blue girl about a week ago. Found as a stray, this stunning Dobergirlie danced her way into everyone's heart. When she was brought in for her spay surgery, Jane was compelled to have her vWd status checked... but more about that in a minute. Jane, a well know lover of Blue Dobermans has christened this breathtaking girl Paisley. Now, anyone who knows me - or emailed me - knows of my own Paisley. She was the amazing, beautiful blue Dobe girl I adopted back in 2005. I saw the picture of this stunning girl and I am completely spellbound. Paisley was guessed to be about 5 years old but she isn’t nearly that old. Now, getting back to that vWd screening for Paisley's spay surgery. It was an extremely fortuitous compulsion indeed. Paisley's vWd factor is 7 - NORMAL is 70! Those who are familiar with vWd know that vWd is a disease a clotting disorder, similar to hemophilia in humans. It is measured by how quickly the blood clots. Some dog’s numbers are higher, denoting that they can clot faster - others, such as beautiful Paisley could hemorrhage uncontrollably. Thankfully there is a substance, a VERY expensive one, known as cryoprecipitate. It’s function is to enhance and strengthen clotting. Paisley cannot be spayed without having this drug delivered IV during surgery. How do I know this about vWd, you ask? My own beautiful Paisley was vWd affected and I was hypervigilant of any small injuries or misadventures she may have encountered. Doberman Rescue of Atlanta was come to SND to ask for financial assistance for Paisley's surgery. This will be no ordinary spay surgery, around $3,000 and not only will dear Paisley need cryopreciptate, she will also need monitoring after surgery. This beauty should be looking at a wonderful, healthy and long life ahead of her. Please open your hearts and send in a donation for Paisley. You, too, may get a sweet visit from a Dobe past. You can mail your tax deductible gift or use PayPal (if able, please click on the ‘friends and family’ and ‘send money’ tabs to keep your donation ‘fee free’). Want another look a Beautiful Paisley Blue? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. Thank you. Leslie Michell-Young, Paisley’s SND Case Manager… Paisleys forever!! |

Dwayne
!!
|
August, 2021: Dwayne might be around 3 years old. We should have been able to get his info from his owners, but they're in trouble and have other things to worry about right now. Dwayne was seized by Animal Control when his people were caught doing things they shouldn't have been doing. I can only imagine what goes through a dog's mind during a police raid on their home. No dog should have to go through that. Although he was an all-natural boy, he is obviously all Doberman, so the shelter got him to Dog Mountain Rescue. Ann and her RescueAngels never say no and he became one of their happy family. He was in surprisingly okay shape, except for his poor tail. At some point, in one of the kennels along his way, his tail got nipped. I mean, who could resist this spinning thing when it's right there under your nose? Well, someone couldn't (maybe even Dwayne himself, "jail" takes your mind to some funny places) and the damage was done. Once it's been done the first time… well… the next time is because it itches, and then it's habit. Tails are very sensitive. No matter how often and well it was wrapped, no matter how much Gabapentin, it kept getting swollen and probably painful. Finally there was no choice but amputation, which is a whole different ball game in adult dogs. It becomes full on surgery at that point. As a Doberman owner since the '60's, I have to say this wouldn't have happened if he'd been docked, but I'm not trying to open that can of worms. Just an observation from years of experience... Anyway, Dwayne and his newly docked tail are now healing nicely. He is friendly as can be and became an immediate member of the rescue family. He is simply a great Dobe! Soon he'll be ready for a Forever home where he can be cherished for years to come. DMR and SND have joined forces on his behalf, won't you join too? You can begin helping Dwayne (I keep thinking of Dobie Gillis) by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Choosing the gift option even saves the fees. The Post Office works too, that's what I do! No offer of help is too small and every single penny goes to Dwayne. It might not seem like much to you, compared to some of the horrors I've brought you, but it is a big deal. It's a big deal to Dwayne and it's a big deal to Dog Mountain Rescue who can go on to rescue the next one… with your help. Thank you so much for your continued support of all these SNDobies!!! Carol Belknap, Dwayne's SND Case Manager. |

Fiona

August,
2021:
It's always astonishing how the stars can align and bring
good fortune after a devastating event. Meet stately, beautiful,
Senior lady, Fiona. This lovely 9 year old senior was dumped by
her family when they moved, slamming the door and never looking back.
And then, the stars sent San Antonio Doberman Advocacy and Rescue
Angels Fiona's way. A local volunteer from SADAR brought her to
their veterinarian, where it was discovered Fiona had a few minor medical
issues which have been resolved - but, there remains one problem that
needs to be surgically addressed... Fiona's tail needs to be removed.
The tail has become recessed and should be excised so Fiona can
feel, balance, and walk better properly without discomfort or the danger
of infection. This isn't an ordinary tail-dock - it's a reconstruction.
The vertebrae involved are further up the spine than would normally
be exposed. Fiona is an extraordinary Senior (aren't they all?).
It is unimaginable that anyone can have such beauty in their
life and simply turn their back on it. You can be assured SADAR
won't falter in doing their very best to help Fiona be the best she
can be. SADAR is among the most active and progressive rescues
in the entire country. They have cared for, saved and found homes
for countless Dobermans. And now, SADAR has come to SND and asked
for assistance in financing dear Fiona's surgery. Please
help us help this amazing organization fulfill their mission in bringing
this beautiful girl back to health. All donations to SND are tax
deductible and go directly to helping Fiona. Donations can be
sent via USPS or PayPal (if using PayPal
please use the tabs ‘send money’ and ‘friends and

Electra

UPDATE:
Poor Electra had to lose her limb but at least, not her life!
She was in intractable pain and would have been for at least the next
10-11 months reported her vet. The damage and exposed bone condition
was too severe and even bandaging became an ordeal for this poor Girlie.
The vets advised amputation, and so it was. She is healing from
surgery very nicely and quickly too - no more pain!! Certainly
more pain than a little one should have to bear! Outlook is now
coming up roses and she'll be ready for a new forever family soon!!
Donations are greatly appreciated for the large expenses incurred in
bringing her back to health! THANK YOU!! |

Coquette
!!
|
August, 2021: We don't know much about this beautiful red girl, Coquette, other than she had been used as a puppy factory. She is only three years old and from the looks of her has had a few litters! We don't know if she was surrendered to the shelter, seized or impounded from the owner, but she was not being adopted while at the shelter - probably because she has a cloudy eye. So, the shelter requested rescue due to treatment(s) they realized she would need. And, off she went to Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California, home to Ardis and her rescue angels. Once in rescue it was discovered Coquette had several broken teeth and a hole in her gums, probably where a tooth had been. It was obvious Coquette had had a very rough life so far. Her coat was in poor condition with hair missing, several broken teeth and a gaping hole where a tooth had been and an injured eye. It looks like she may have tried to escape her awful confinement and injured herself in the attempt at freedom. Her rescuers say she is extremely sweet and affectionate, so undeserving of her situation and physical condition! Doberman Pinscher Rescue considers the hole in Coquette's gum to be the most serious concern of all her medical challanges right now. They provided images to several vets to get an appointment and identify the problem and get a plan for treatment. They were very fortunate (as was dear Coquette) to get a pretty quick appointment. You can just imagine the pain coming from that broken tooth. The troublesome hole was attended to by removing the broken remnants of a tooth while creating a gingival flap to close the hole. She is truly a beautiful girl and deserves much better than what she has received in her 3 short years! We are all aware of the high cost of vet care these days, so if you can help in any way please please do so! You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or mailing in a donation. Thank you all ahead of time and keep loving these sweet, deserving dobermans and the angels who go above and beyond to save them! Thank you! Nancy Harwood, Coquette's SND Case Manager. |

Archie
!!

July,
2021:
Archie is a sweet boy, likely 7 years old, who came into a California
shelter with a horribly swollen foot, unable to bear weight on the leg.
The shelter vet examined his foot and found necrotic tissue and maggots
invading the wound which is estimated to be at least 3 months old -
which obviously means that this poor baby has been in terrible pain
for weeks. Enter Ardis's Army - Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore.
Ardis's volunteers scooped this honey up and got him to their
veterinarian for treatment and evaluation, and this is when sweet Archie
finally is getting some relief. However, the initial findings are very
worrisome. Archie is going to become a member of the tripod club
- which is contingent on the status of his spinal stenosis. While
no one knows Archie's true age, he is no longer a baby and estimated
to be at least 7 years old. It is speculated that Archie's injury
could be due to a sudden trauma, perhaps even a snakebite. With all
the infection in his body, it's a miracle Archie is alert and doing
as well as he's doing. There are two positive things here. The
first, of course, is that Archie found himself in the hands of DPR.
The second is that Archie's overall body condition is pretty
good - he's been well nourished and he's happy (in spite of the fact
that he's been in pain). Fortunately, a quick appointment was
scored and Archie is going in for evaluation today, July 22 for a complete
work up and treatment (can you read expensive?), so he may even have
his amputation sooner rather than later, provided the stenosis will
not be a prohibitive factor. Somewhere in the recent past, someone
threw Archie away. This is evident by the fact that he is well developed
and has a very sweet attitude. One would think you'd become conditioned
to the fact that there are those that walk among us that feel if their
animal becomes ill or injured it's acceptable to toss them out with
the trash. NEWS FLASH - this is NEVER acceptable... rather, it
is CRIMINAL. We at SND are going to do everything possible to
help DPR with Archie's expenses. While his future is in the balance,
know that he is loved and will have his needs addressed. What
he needs from all of us is your positive juju and donations to SND to
assist Doberman Pinscher Rescue continue to reach out to the animals
that have been so cavalierly thrown away. Your donations can be
sent via USPS or PayPal and EVERY bit
helps and will go dire3ctly 100% to Archie! Want

Arya
!!
|
UPDATE
- September, 2021: We are
so sorry to tell you that after an arduous trial of trying to get to
a diagnosis of what was causing sweet Arya's distress. Finally
it was discovered that Arya suffered from copper storage disease which
can be and, in her case was, fatal. In spite of treatments with
chelating agents her liver could not function any longer. She will be
missed, she was well loved. Rest in peace dear little princess. |

Henry
!!
|
July,
2021:
Seniors Unite!!! I bring Henry to you. He is 8 or 9 years old
and as sweet as they come. Super sweet senior boy who someone fed and
watered all these years… it's just too bad he got old and developed
senior problems. Instead of lovingly caring for him in his own home,
his "family" dumped him. Dumped, as in he was picked up as
a stray. Want to bet they already have a puppy? This is just maddening
to someone who loves seniors as I do. As so many of us do. Lucky Henry
was saved by Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Pennsylvania. Trish and her
Rescue Angels know how to treat this precious commodity--the Senior
Doberman, and his life is significantly better already. But not perfect,
and this is where we all come in. Henry needs some fixin'. Admittedly,
not all of his problems are fixable, but he could be more comfortable
and in less pain. He could live out his senior years in joy in spite
of being visually and hearing impaired. He also has skin infections,
ear infections, joint pain and worms. Easy to see he didn't get any
Wellness Checks from his vet. He can get around on his own but is clumsy
with limited range of motion. I can imagine his people becoming more
and more impatient with his slowness. His gait looks like he has some
spinal fusion and, in addition to the other issues, he is getting radiographs
of his chest and spine. If he can be helped, he will be. Most immediately,
he has a large mass on one foot, which is ulcerated, and a toe that
just plain needs to come off. Everything is in motion to fix him--everything
but the funds. We all know how quickly the bill climbs when there are
so many different medicines and treatments involved. DPRPA and SND have
joined together to help Henry. Wouldn't you like to help too? You can
begin to help Henry by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Using
the gift option even saves the fees! The Post Office delivers 7 days
a week and that's what I do--works fine! Remember, every penny goes
to Henry and his miseries and no amount of help is too little. Henry
is grateful, believe me! Thank you so very much for your continued support--we
couldn't do it without YOU! Carol Belknap, Henry's SND Case Manager... |

Pax
!!
|
July,
2021:
Meet Pax. Pax is a seven year old, still intact, handsome
gent who has come into rescue through no fault of his own. Pax
and another Doberman came into rescue when their owner contacted Doberman
Pinscher Rescue of Pennsylvania. This lady needed to rehome both
of her Dobes because she only had weeks to live and was going into hospice
care. Both dogs knew nothing but love and kindness with her since
the age of six weeks. Both are up to date on vaccines and healthy
or so their RescueAngels thought! As soon as they came into rescue
they were taken to a vet where bloodwork was done. The bloodwork
found that Pax's liver enzymes were elevated. After six weeks
on Denamarin and antibiotics his liver enzymes were still high.
Pax has had a chest x-ray and ultrasound to rule out cancer, but specialists
still have no answers. Pax needs a liver biopsy to find out exactly
what is going on or at least rule out one more thing - copper storage
disease. Copper storage disease is suspected but must be confirmed
before any treatment can begin. DPRPA is doing the very best
they can for Pax, but that comes at a cost, a very high cost. The price
of diagnostics, treatment, and stabilization is going to be north of
$4000. Hopefully there will be a good outcome for Pax and hopefully
we can count on our fellow Doberman lovers once again to help Pax and
DPRPA with the cost of his care. You can start helping Pax by
making a tax deductible donation by using PayPay or mailing
in your donation. We'll treat you to another picture of handsome
Pax when we get it! Thank each and every one who donates to help his
rescue angels and our wonderful breed. Nancy Harwood, SND Case
Manager. |

Hamilton
!!
|
UPDATE
- July 21, 2021: Another wave
of sadness hits us this July. We are filled with a sadness words
could never convey fully. Following tumor removal on his leg last
month, we were elated that pathology did not show cancerous cells.
Sadly, in the following two weeks Hamilton was experiencing more and
more pain and a visit to the vet did not give him relief. Pain
increased and no time was wasted in getting him UC Davis for a diagnosis.
First blow: He was found to have multiple myeloma an uncommon
cancer in canines. As his chances were quite good, initial chemotherapy
was begun as it would relieve much of the bone pain he was experiencing.
Rather than that, his pain kept increasing and he was rushed back to
UC Davis Sunday for help. They suggested the bone pain which centered
on his neck might indicate a fracture because of the breaking down of
bone effect myeloma can have. Second blow: Today, he returned
to UC Davis for his 2nd chemo but before that, x-rays confirmed deterioration
of his cervical vertebrae. Releasing him from his pain was the
only course that could be taken and Ann took all of his pain and made
it hers. Ann tried so very hard and in the end it was the only
thing she could do. This exceptional Senior burrowed his way into
our hearts and Ann spared nothing to give him the best Senior life he
could have had. This odyssey came at a very high price, one he
was well worth. In addition to broken hearts, Hamilton's odyssey
leaves an enormous financial burden on Dog Mountain - one we cannot
bear to have them face alone. Will you please join us? Keeping
them alive to help the next Doberman in need is paramount. Donation
links are the same as before and will be in his memory. THANK
YOU. Rest in peace Sweet Prince... Twinkle down on us always,
we wish Ann will take comfort in your light. |

Coco
!!
|
July 2021 : Hello Coco in 2020, Goodbye Gandalf in 2021… Yes, 3 year old Coco was so loved and happy after his adoption last November, he became Gandalf – the Wizard of his new Dad’s heart!! Happy, happy they were until his Dad noticed that he was having increasing pain in his leg. Off to Gandalf’s vet to see what could be causing this pain. Preliminary exams showed that the problem was devastating osteosarcoma that ultimately would cost Gandalf his life if immediate treatments could not begin. The treatment? Amputation followed by chemotherapy with no hope that his pain and discomfort could be addressed. His Dad couldn’t even begin to deal with the physical reality for Gandalf but also for the financial reality of being able to try to help him. Because of the COVID economy, his company had failed, he was out of work and had no means to care for his pal, Gandalf. His only option was to tearfully surrender Gandalf back to Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California, in order to see if anything could be done for him. Of course DPR took Gandalf back under their wings and saw to it that Gandalf would indeed be treated with dignity and love and allowed to find his peace. SND and DPR are asking that you remember this gentle giant with a donation in his memory. Please help now by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. The mail may be slow, but it works just fine. Just know that Gandalf suffers no more and will dance in the Night Sky, twinkling down for his Dad and for all of us forever. THANK YOU, SND Case Management Team. Rest in peace, dear Gandalf – you will always be loved. |

Canela
!!
|
July,
2021:
Canela is a very endearing, beautiful name - meaning cinnamon
in Spanish, and here we have a perfect example of sweetness and beauty
in spite of what life has handed her. Now at seven years old,
Canela was owned by someone in the not-too-distant past that appeared
to care about her. When she suffered a recent fracture to her
rear leg, this someone whisked her off to Mexico for a surgical repair
(that being MUCH cheaper than could be afforded in southern CA), and
a steel plate was inserted in the leg to stabilize the break and help
it heal. At some later point, the plate began to break through
the skin at the incision, and she was brought back to the veterinarian
in Mexico. And now, this is where it gets ugly. Rather than
being diligent with her aftercare, poor Canela's leg became badly infected
and her so-called owner surrendered this sweetheart to a shelter...
The steel plate is TOTALLY exposed having burst through her skin - it
is about 5 inches long and 3/4 inch wide and her flesh is still trying
to grow around the screws!! WHO DOES THIS??? Thankfully,
Doberman Pinscher Rescue - better known as Ardis's Army - snagged Canela
from the shelter and took her under their wings. This poor DobeLady.
Dear Canela may very possibly lose her leg due to this infection - but
she won't lose her life (a definite possibility if this terrible infection
did not get treated). Doberman Pinscher Rescue has asked us at
Special Needs Dobermans to help raise funds to battle this terrible
injustice done to Canela. We, as yet, don't know the prognosis,
but we can be assured Ardis and DPR will do everything possible to help
Canela to try and save her leg and rescue her from pain. This
is going to be expensive and treatment will be prolonged BUT Canela
couldn't be in better hands now! Please join us in bringing this lovely
Cinnamon Girl health, happiness and love. Send some sugar to Canela
- every cent will go to helping her live a happy and pain free life.
Please begin helping Miss Canela by clicking on the PayPal button to
the right, using the gift option gives even more. As you know,
USPS works too! Want
to add some Sweet Cinnamon to your day?

Rosie
!!
|
July, 2021: Rosie is 6 years old and is a rescue from an animal shelter in California. She is a mellow girl who has been waiting for the right home to come along. Since Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Filmore California has her, she is okay with the waiting. In the meantime she is enjoying comforts she may never have had before in her life. She just loves kicking back with her kennelmates--and waiting. She is such a good, quiet girl that sudden pacing was a sign something was not right. She became unable to settle down and seemed to be asking for something. You might blame fireworks (it was the 4th of July) but on the 5th, she began crying out. This was definitely not right for Rosie. She became even more restless and began vomiting watery fluid. All the signs pointed toward bloat except her abdomen was only slightly enlarged. Instead of being filled with air, it felt hard as a rock. DPR rushed her right to an emergency vet service where she could be treated immediately. The only good news is that she came through surgery well. The bad news is EVERYTHING else. The hardness in her abdomen was her dead, necrotic spleen and part of her stomach wall. They had to remove her spleen as well as all the dead tissue in her stomach. With such a huge amount of necrosis her chances of survival are very uncertain. The next couple days will tell Ardis, and us, if she will survive. UPDATE!! Here it is two days later and Miss Rosie IS making a comeback!! DPR and SND are behind Rosie. We won't give up on her, and we hope you won't either. Her vet bill is $6500. and climbing. PLEASE consider helping this pretty girl and this very deserving rescue. We don't ever want any rescue of this caliber to run out of the means to help more and more DD's (Deserving Dobermans). You may begin helping sweet Rosie by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, using the gift option gives even more. USPS works too--and even delivers on Sunday these days! Every penny will go to Rosie, we are all volunteers, and we all want to see Rosie live and move on with her life. Want to see Rosie's winning smile? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. Thank you, as always, for your continued help and support of all these SNDobies!!! I simply cannot thank you enough! Carol Belknap, Rosie's SND Case Manager. |

Lulu
!!
|
July, 2021: Here we go with another mind boggling case. Lulu is a beautiful 10 year old senior, dumped at a shelter as a ‘stray’ (although the ‘finder’ knew her by name. Hmmm, that doesn’t sound like a stray to me…). Lulu (her new name) was in near collapse and literally knocking at death’s door! She was barley able to walk, had no interest in eating or drinking, and just by looking at her one could tell she was in obvious distress. On top of those issues, she has awful dentition. Her teeth are so rotted, exposed roots are easily visible! I can’t even imagine the constant pain she’s been enduring along with being so ill. During her shelter stray hold, Lulu was treated for suspected Addison’s disease and she did respond well, however, due to the high cost of ongoing Addison’s treatment as well as her advanced age, the shelter was going to euthanize her if the Rescue Angels of Doberman Rescue of Nevada were unable to take her in. The DRNV Angels felt Lulu deserved better than to be dumped and then put down - they graciously took Lulu under their wings. Lulu will require Percorten injections, which are very expensive (about $200 a month), for the rest of her life to treat her adrenal gland disease. Next, dental care and extractions are definitely required for pain relief and continued oral health. This has been addressed already and incidentally, she lost 14 teeth!! DRNV has come to our SND community requesting assistance for Lulu, who has earned the reputation of ‘being the sweetest ever’ (I'm not surprised)! Let us please do our best to help this grand old lady continue along the road to pain free good health and happiness. NO donation is ever too small!! You can start by mailing your tax deductible gift or use PayPal (if your account allows, click on tabs ‘send money’ and ‘family & friends’ to keep your donation fee-free!). As always, our rescue families and we at SND thank you and are eternally grateful for your continued assistance! Beth McCahren, Lulu's SND Case Manager. |

Booker
!!
|
June, 2021: We all love puppies, of course, but it is heart breaking when someone can just throw a puppy away because it isn't perfect - especially when a "person" doesn't even have the heart or brains to take it to a vet or shelter to be humanely destroyed! Case in point, a sweet four month old baby boy named Booker, found as a stray. We don't have much info on this boy except that the shelter that picked him up knew there was something going on with him that needed to be fixed or at least get some medical attention. Thankfully, they called the RescueAngels at Dobies and Little Paws Rescue in Fillmore, California. Booker has an odd head tilt which is more than likely vestibular disease and that is not fixable, but to that pup it is normal and they can just live their happy puppy lives as if they were totally normal. He was picked up from the shelter on May 21st and has been a great puppy - just not so lucky physically! The shelter didn't even know Booker was deaf, which usually comes with the vestibular disease, but for all intent and purpose he is a normal puppy very much loved by his foster mom and everyone at the rescue. But starting on June 25th, little Bookers's abdomen bacame very bloated. He was still acting normally accept he wasn't urinating. He was taken to the emergency clinic and at this point Booker is hospitalized. He has had bloodwork done but that has not shown any clues as to what is going on. Efforts are being made to drain the fluid from his abdomen and he will be having an ultrasound done. No diagnosis so far although "liver shunt" was mentioned as something to be ruled out. The cost of these procedures are quite high, especially at a time when our rescues are so overcrowded. When you see the pictures of this boy your heart will melt, so if you can, please donate something toward his diagnosis and care - I know DPR will be so very thankful for your help. Please keep Booker in your thoughts and prayers, he is going to need all the help we can give, he deserves so much more than he has gotten in his very young life. You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or by mailing in a donation. Want to see a heart-melting adorable DobeKid picture?? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. Thank again for everything you do for these beautiful and majestic animals! Nancy Harwood, Booker's SND Case Manager. |

Knox
!!
|
June, 2021: Knox is a three year old Doberboy with a different background than most rescued Dobes. He wasn’t abused, dumped, or a stray, but as the result of a divorce he was reluctantly surrendered to the Rescue Angels of Bluegrass Doberman Rescue located in Louisville, Kentuck. The move to a tiny apartment as well as his previous owner needing to work a significant amount of overtime left Knox alone for many more hours than he was used to leading him to be very anxious and quite unhappy. Rehoming seemed to be the best option for Knox’s wellbeing. As if all of those changes weren’t traumatic enough for him, he developed a serious medical condition: Knox’s foster mother noticed swelling in his toe that had spread to his foot then the lower leg in short time. The veterinarian started him on an antibiotic which unfortunately was unsuccessful in treating the issue. Back to the vet he went where a loose toenail that he would periodically chew on was expected to be the source of infection, therefore a new treatment plan along with a broader spectrum antibiotic was initiated. Within a few days Knox’s leg had significantly worsened so the next step was a blastomycosis test and culture (blasto being a dangerous type of fungus). Surgery to culture and remove the toenail was performed and the culture did indeed confirm the diagnosis of blasto as well as MRSP (doggy MRSA). He is now on three antibiotics which hopefully will be successful in eradicating the fungus and MRSP. Even with the exemplary care he’s being provided, amputation of the leg may still be a necessity. As you can imagine, his frequent trips to the veterinarian along with meds and procedures is adding up, not to mention a possible amputation looming in the future. Knox’s Rescue Angels have come to our SND community for assistance in saving this sweet boy’s life. He still isn’t out of the woods, but everything possible is being done for him. Won’t you please help BDR in their efforts to rid Knox of this deadly infection by whatever means is necessary. NO gift is ever too small and every cent is definitely appreciated! You can mail your donation or use PayPal (please, if possible click on tabs ‘send money’ and ‘family & friends’ to keep your donation fee-free!) The rescues as well as we at SND are grateful for your continued support, we couldn’t do it without all of you! Want to see a smile worth all the gold in Fort KNOX?? Brooklyn
!!
|
June, 2021: Two beautiful Senior Ladies that through no fault of their own were about to become homeless. But up steps Ardis and all the rescue angels from DPR in Southern California to get these two to safety. Most fortunately, they found amongst their troops of adopters and supporters, a couple who making a 12 hour drive each way, insured that these two little ladies would come to no harm. You see the owners are divorcing and going to seperate residences, which do not allow pets or Dobermans or whatever, who knows! Brooklyn and her mother were brought to DPR's attention through a very caring person in Idaho. Brooklyn is in need of medical attention due to several growths on her body plus a diseased leg caused by a lick granuloma that had been neglected for a very long time. That leg will be x-rayed and the growths on her body removed and biopsied to see if they are benign or malignant. The good soul who contacted DPR has kept them in touch with the dogs' ex-owners which gave DPR enough time to secure volunteers to drive to Idaho to pick these girls up and deliver them to DPR. The elder girl is in good shape for being almost 12 years old and is scheduled to be adopted by a qualified adopter June 9th. Brooklyn at 8 years old, needs a veterinary work up before adoption can even be discussed. She will also be evaluated for her spinal health, as she appears to have an unusual gait, likely poor breeding, as her mother appears to have the same type of unusual gait. Thank goodness for DPR, as these two would have gone to a local Idaho shelter if DPR hadn't stepped in. None of the local shelters there in Idaho were equipped to give any needed medical attention and both girls would more than likely have been euthanized. So, thank you Ardis and all your angels at DPR for going above and beyond to get these two ladies to safety. Now it is up to all of us to help DPR with Brooklyn's expenses, so hopefully she can get the loving home she deserves. You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or mailing in your donation. Thank you all again for helping! You can make a tax deductible donation by using Pay Pal or mailing in your donation. Thank you all for helping these Dobes and all the rescues that save them! Piper
!!
|
June, 2021: Pretty little Piper is almost 2 years old and has already been given up on by her "family." Thankfully, there are people like Melissa and her band of Rescue Angels at Bluegrass Doberman Rescue ready to open their arms and hearts to any needy Doberman. Her family surrendered her with the same old sad story of not having enough time to give to her. Well, we could talk about that statement and stupid, impetuous pet owners -- but that isn't helping Piper is it? In truth, they may have contributed to some degree in her transformation from Doberman to Dobergoat. It's not hard to see how an active, unexercised puppy (mind and body) with growing boredom and separation anxiety could make bad choices. Quote the former owner, "When she is left alone she tears things up." Perhaps she was just born part goat, but I'd rather blame the people who gave up on her. Most of us lifetime Dober-folk have either had such a dog or know of one. We all know how to deal with this, but you have to care enough to do it. In Piper's case, well, she's smarter than your average goat and figured out how to open her crate while her foster family was at work. She found a whole bunch of "snacks." One tasty morsel might have been a watch with a leather band. Off to the vet they went… X-rays showed something metallic so they did not induce vomiting lest a sharp edge tear her up coming out. Next was a scope surgery, again it was unsuccessful-- Piper apparently thought toilet paper was extra yummy. She wound up with the whole surgery experience and wouldn't it be nice if they ever learned from the first time? Of course they never do! Piper is feeling much better now -- and her foster family is sifting through the toilet paper "presents" for parts of the watch, (thankfully she hid the face for later and they found that in the house). Piper is a great girl and seems to love everyone. She's having a fabulous time with her foster-brother and life is good. All that's left now is the medical bills, please join BDR and SND in "paying the Piper" ;)) . You can begin helping by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. The gift option even gives her more! USPS even delivers on Sunday now so don't hesitate to help by mail! It all works and it all will help this pretty little thing. As always, thank you for your continued support . UPDATE
- June 2, 2021:
It is with the greatest sadness that we bring you the
news of Victoria's passing. The pneumonia which seemed under control
came back with a vengeance and took the life of this brave Princess.

She got that chance and she was loved to the end. Rest in peace

Garden in the Night Sky forever!! |

Buddy
!!
|
May, 2021: This is one of the very few times (trust me) that I am at a lost for words, so I’ll start here… Buddy is just a young fellow, estimated to be approximately 2 to 3 years old. He was found as a stray and taken to a shelter that luckily happens to work closely with the Rescue Angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California. When alerted about Buddy, the Rescue Angels quickly sped into action to save him. When they saw Buddy, their hearts immediately sank. There stood this beautiful boy - with a defeated posture, holding his ‘partial’ rear hind leg up the best he could and then sloping sideways to rest it against the pavement - his sad expression showing defeat and the acceptance of this crippling way of life, likely in pain. I’m sure you’re curious regarding the ‘partial leg’. Best educated guess per the veterinarian is Buddy had likely stepped onto a leg-hold trap typically used to trap coyotes and then either chewed off 1/4 of his leg or someone had freed him, leaving the unusable portion behind. Who knows how long this poor Dobie has been suffering. If only he’d had responsible owners this would’ve never have happened to him. Buddy’s leg will most likely need to be fully amputated because the weight of it will be too heavy for his spinal health and there isn’t enough leg remaining for a prosthesis. Buddy has had the remaining part of his damaged leg amputated and he's doing great! DPR rescues many many Dobermans that need extensive medical intervention and at times will come to the SND community for assistance. Let’s band together and help get Buddy's expenses for his surgery taken care of now - now, he has the chance to be a happy and healthy Dobergent again! Please remember that NO donation is ever too small! You can donate any amount by using the PayPal tab (click on ‘friends and family’ & ‘send money’ to keep your gift fee free) and USPS works just as well. The rescues and we at SND thank you and greatly appreciate your continued support! We are showing his 'depressed' image here just so you can enjoy the transformation to a happy, engaged, DobeGuy he is now that he knows he is safe! Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. Thank you! Beth McCahren, Buddy's SND Case Manager. |

Bruno
!!
|
May, 2021: Meet Mr. Bruno - he'll be 7 next month and he was affectionately called "The Brissket" by his Rescue Angels from Saving Dobermankind in Colorado when they first took him in... read on and the meaning of the nickname will become clear. Bruno's owners moved from Texas to Colorado to a rental property which would not allow Bruno. Even though they had had Bruno from a puppy, it didn't seem too difficult for them to give him up - but at least he was surrendered (read: dumped) to Saving Dobermankind Animal Rescue. When SDAR too him in, Bruno was extremely, extremely overweight, 142 pounds on April 7th(!!), which in my not so humble opinion is a form of abuse. Since being in rescue, he is down to 117 pounds or maybe even less by now due to better nutrition and care. Due to his poor condition he was seen as soon as possible after getting to SDAR. Vets found not only was Bruno grossly overweight, it came as no surprise that he was hypothyroid - AS WELL AS being heartworm positive!! Not only was he improperly fed, he was denied vet care which is REAL abuse! SDAR is curretly getting Bruno's thyroid under control before they can start antibiotics needed before starting heartworm treatment. Bruno is now well on his way to getting healthy and hopefully adoptable. Bruno is only seven years old in June so hopefully treatment will go well and he will have many more years to love and be loved by someone who will cherish him. Thank you Saving Dobermankind Animal Rescue for all you are doing for Bruno and all the others in your care. Please folks, help this rescue financially so Bruno can have a new and happy life. You can make a tax deductible donation by using Pay Pal or mailing in your donation. Thank you all for helping these dobes and all the rescues! Jardani
!!
|
May, 2021: Look at this gorgeous red eye-candy! This is 2 year old Jardani and his owner dumped him. There is absolutely no way to really know what happened but the owner claimed Jardani nipped his chin when he tried to kiss him on the head. I think we all know how things like this happen and a "mean" dog they do not make! If you woke me up swooping down on me, I'd bite you too :)! But that is what the shelter had, by law, to label him. That meant he could only go to rescue and not be adopted (from the rescue) by anyone with kids or other animals at home. So this pretty boy already has a bad mark against him even though he is a beautiful young dog deserving of a good home. No canine companionship for him, no kids to bond with, not even a cat! Sucks for him, doesn't it? The shelter required Doberman Pinscher Rescue to sign an indemnity waiver just to save his life. Just to save his life. There was no question, Ardis and her Rescue Angels took him on - and love him they did! Before he can move on in life, he needs a loose molar removed. Who knows, having a real bad toothache could make a guy cranky enough to nip at ya, don't you think? This should be a fairly uncomplicated surgery but with a large molar, who knows until they get in there. It's hard enough to get appointments in these trying COVID times, so wait he did. This missing (soon) molar shouldn't impact his life but it will impact the finances of a rescue. Please join DPR and SND help Jardani with his dental bill! You can begin helping Jardani by clicking on the PalPal button to the right. Choosing the gift options even saves the fees! And have you noticed USPS even delivers on Sunday now? (well, maybe). It's all good and it's all going right to him. Today you get to be the Tooth Fairy! As always we at SND can't thank you enough for your continued support of our SNDobies!! Need another look at this gorgeous DUDE?? Just click here https://www.doberman911.org. Thank you! Carol Belknap, Jardani's SND Case Manager. |

Tobasco
!!
|
May, 2021: This beautiful and distinctive boy turned up as a stray in the cold heart of winter of February 2019 and he was guessed to be 3-4 years old. Being 'arrested' was fortunate, because our red boy found himself taken in by Ardis' Army at Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California. He's a very sweet guy who doesn't care for canine company and so hasn't been adopted yet. He sadly has developed a miserable lick granuloma, perhaps because he was lonely... He simply wants a human by his side every second. On May 1st, Tobasco was being treated for the granuloma when he was given a chew stick to distract him when his foot was being examined. Well, our boy took one look at the treat and promptly swallowed it - whole - taking this vet visit to a whole new level. Tobasco was immediately x-rayed, where, of course, the treat showed up as an abdominal obstruction. Off to surgery he went... poor guy. Everyone who is reading this knows how expensive abdominal surgery is (like over $4,000). Doberman Pinscher Rescue is about saving lives, and the DPR Army have faced this type of surgery countless times. It's a tricky and dangerous procedure, and it's exacerbated by the fact that dear Tobasco has a horrific granuloma that taxes his immune system. He's making a successful recovery, but it's been tough on everyone at DPR. It's obvious that Tobasco will need ongoing care to continue to heal. He has a long road ahead, but with YOUR donation to SND, both he and his compatriots at DPR will be assured of getting the help they need. ! Please begin helping our red hot chili pepper by sending your tax-deductible gift by USPS or by PayPal (for the PayPal option, please use the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ tabs if possible to make your gift ‘fee free’). NO amount is ever too small and 100% goes to Tobasco's expenses! Just look at this guy's smile... he makes the sun shine! Need more sunshine? Just click here https://www.doberman911.org. THANK YOU! Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager (love the red boys...)!! |

Junyah
!!

April,
2021:
It's TOUGH getting old - especially if you are an 'obsolete'
part of your family! We’ve all heard it before and I’m
sure we’ll hear it again, the ‘new baby, no time’
scenario. At ten years old and in the senior years of her life,
Junyah was surrendered to the Rescue Angels of Georgia Doberman Rescue
in lieu of being dumped unceremoniously at the pound. This because
her family now has 3 small children with another on the way and there
is just ‘no room or time for her’. Junyah was reported
to be stressed in the home with pacing, whining and being clingy along
with counter surfing, eating diapers and ‘generally getting into
trouble’. This all sounds like an easy fix to me, but I
digress. When the GDR Angels took Junyah in they noticed she has
several lumps, as most senior dogs do. However, there are a few their
veterinarian was suspicious of. It is imperative that Junyah have
those lumps removed and biopsied to be sure they are nothing more than
lipomas. Naturally, surgery doesn’t come cheap and biopsies
especially don’t. The GDR Angels say that since Junyah has
been in rescue she has proven herself to be incredibly affectionate
and sweet and loves to be petted. Let’s band together to
see that Junyah is totally healthy before she goes onto her next family,
a family who will invest in her the love and veterinary attention she
deserves. Please remember that NO donation is ever too small!
You can send your gift by USPS
or by PayPal (if using PayPal please use the ‘send money’
and ‘friends and family’ tabs, if able, to keep your gift
‘fee free’). Your donations help to keep SND and the
Rescue teams afloat and we all do greatly appreciate your generosity!
Thank you!! Beth McCahren, Junyah's SND Case
Manager. |

Janie
!!
|
UPDATE
- April, 2021:
Since
November of 2020 when Janie first came to GDR and SND, she was successfully
treated for HW and then suspicious mass removals. Even at that
time Miss Janie who was noted to have an "off" gait is now
a Senior DobeLady at 7 years old. Her gait had been called "probable
Wobblers" by one of her vets. Oddly, this diagnosis hasn't
progressed as Wobblers typically does so it became imperative that this
spinal issue be investigated and treated if possible. In Janie's
case, what her MRI and serial CT's showed was that she has "snake-eye
myelopathy" which is an untreatable, progressive disease of the
spinal cord - in fact, it is comparable to ALS in humans (not unlike
another Dobe, Miss Gita below). Janie's treatment options are
limited to prednisone to keep inflammation down and pain medications
when they become necessary. Janie is not exhibiting any pain at
present and she is a happy girl in spite of the disease which will eventually
take her from us. Her GDR Angels vowed to explore every avenue
to help this Lady... and they did - even though we all would have wished
for a better prognosis. To find out that nothing could be done
was costly, very costly, but they would not give up on Janie without
an answer. Please join with us in the fulfilling of GDR's
promise to Janie, Won't you? You
may begin by clicking the PayPal button to the right - choosing the
gift option even saves the fees! The USPS
works too!! THANK YOU from Janie, GDR and SND too. SND Case
Management Team. |

Gita
!!
|
April, 2021: The newest Dobie to enter the SND Alumni Association is Gita. Gita is only eleven months old but unfortunately is already having health issues. A little history for you - at the time Gita was purchased from her ‘breeder’ (or shall we say ‘greeder’) her new owner was told that Gita had previously had ‘an infection in her knee but was recovering.' As Gita continued to grow, she began to exhibit weakness in her hind legs resulting in the crossing over of the legs as well as them buckling under. Gita’s owners did take her for a medical workup, however, they were financiaily unable to follow through with the required extensive testing. Without the funds to continue veterinary care, Gita’s family contacted the ‘greeder’ whose idea of helping was for her family to return her for ‘a credit’ and then they would euthanize her, the same as if they were throwing away garbage - she's supposed to MAKE money not cost money! Gita’s family wouldn’t hear of it, they wanted her to receive the best care possible to ensure a long and healthy life. That’s when they made the decision to turn to the Rescue Angels of Dobie Ranch Rescue Inc. in Florida. Gita’s DRR Angels report she is 'a very sweet, happy and playful young girl’ and they have vowed to do everything possible to see her through this medical mystery. Won’t you please help us assist Gita and DDR by making a donation toward her veterinary expenses? Looking for diagnosis for what appears to be a neurological problem is NOT cheap and indeed it was NOT. DRR committed to fixing a problem if it had been fixable but, unfortunately, it is not. Her original (since birth?) issues have exacerbated changes throughout her spinal column and are now pretty extensive. Surgery is not recommended here - perhaps steroid treatment but likely physical bracing and therapy are the best recourse now and DRR will see that Gita gets every chance. She is a happy, playful girl who does not exhibit any symptoms of pain and her Angels will be sure she will live that way. The clinic kindly does provide a rescue discount but does not allow time payments. Won't you please join us? We will not let the DRR Angels stand alone in their compassionate choices for Gita! Please send your gift by USPS or by PayPal (for the PayPal option, please use the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ tabs if possible to make your gift ‘fee free’). Remember, NO amount is ever too small! We thank you greatly for your dedication and continued support of the rescues caring for the SND Dobies in need! And now, for another look at this beautiful girl and see for yourself why doing nothing was not a choice - just click here https://www.doberman911.org. THANK YOU! Beth McCahren, Gita's SND Case Manager. |

Babs
!!
|
April,
2021:
Now I bring you Babs, the last but not least of the Red Trio.
She's one to two years old and weighs 47 pounds. I have to stop
and think about the last time I had a 47 pound Dobe--oh yeah, it was
a puppy! She might be Bugs and Buster's sister. She might
be their mother. Although she is learning to trust, she is still
terrified of everything. If she has met you, if you are a familiar
face, you'll get wiggles. It is so good this tiny scared girlie
can dare to trust a little and wiggle a lot! In her foster home
she is a bit of a Dober-snob - she is fine with the Dobes but gives
the Pit a cold shoulder. I can imagine this little girl being
skeptical and somewhat standoffish, can't you? The kitties don't
interest her either, she's a Dobe or nothing kind of girl! So
far she needs a little coaxing, but we all know no dog can resist the
loving hands of the Angels at Bluegrass Doberman Rescue! By the
time she is ready for a home, she'll be more than ready to face the
world! It may be some time before that happens, though - she has
the dreaded heartworm, same as her boys/brothers. So here I am,
bringing you the third heartworm case of the day, and asking you to
join BDR and SND in the battle for her heart. You may begin helping
Babs by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Choosing the
gift option even gives her the fees being charged!
USPS
is much smoother now and checks are good! It's what I do.
A check in the snail mail - and it always works! I want to thank you
for reading not one but three heartworm cases bam, bam, bam. I
also know you will help. You always do. Sincere thanks,
Carol Belknap, Babs' Worm Warrior Case Manager. |

Buster
!!
|
April, 2021: As Yogi Berra said... "It's deja vu all over again" here! Let me bring Buster to you! Buster is the smaller of the year old boys and the shyest (see Bugs below), but, he has already started coming out of his shell. So far he seems more interested getting to know the kitties of his foster home than the dogs, but he'll get there, he has time. He has lots of love in his little body! He has learned to LOVE people, and Melissa and Bluegrass Doberman Rescue are determined his love will not be misplaced. Buster has already got the Velcro motion going--he is so ready for his long, happy life to begin. Between him and that yummy life stands a heart full of worms. Please consider joining BDR and SND in helping Buster get there! Don't let the worms win, not now, not ever. Any amount will help and every penny will go to little, red, Buster! You can begin helping Buster by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, the gift option saves more! You may also mail one in, USPS will deliver! Please don't stop now in the worm war! All of the SNDobies you have helped join me in thanking you for your continued support! Thank you!! Carol Belknap, Buster's SND Case Manager. |

Bugs
!!
|
April, 2021: When it rains, it pours - and it's raining right over Bluegrass Doberman Rescue - raining heartworm positive Dobermans!! Let me introduce you to Bugs who came in with his (likely) brother and their (probably) mother/sister. Bugs is about a year old and was a stray from down south, found running with the others… what a picture that is--3 red Dobes running together! Little Bugs loves to play ball and is super sweet. Someday he'll make someone a great playmate but for now he's simply delighted to have a bed of his own at the end of the day, something he obviously never had before. Bugsy is the bigger of the 3, but not by much, they're all very petite. Bugs loves playing with his foster sister but is not always a fan of his brother! They seem to butt heads over Mom/Sis, but then who wouldn't fight for the honor of a beautiful redhead? He, like the others, has some scars and scrapes to heal up before forever can happen--and the real issue--heartworms--to kill. Won't you join BDR and SND in helping him? You may begin helping Bugs by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. The gift option even saves the fees! You may also mail one in. Every penny will go to Bugs, and we do mean every one! I want to thank you for your continued support of our SNDobies! I am so grateful to all of you who support us in these Worm Wars! Thank you!!! Carol Belknap Bugs' SND Case Manager. |

Emmett
!!
|
April,
2021:
Have you ever been graced with a Senior Dobe boy in your home?
Can you possibly imagine losing your boy to uncertainty in a teeming,
indifferent city, where if he wasn't pulled off the streets, he'd wind
up dead in record time? This is exactly how our boy Emmett was found.
Thankfully, he was found by a kind person who whisked him off to a shelter.
This doesn't sound like a fortuitous move... but as it happens, it turned
out to be a fantastic move! Emmett's life has changed. He's now loved.
A rescue liaison at the shelter immediately notified the Rescue Angel
Army (Fillmore, California’s Doberman Pinscher Rescue, naturally)
and off to an platoon of welcoming arms Emmett went. Somewhere in his
past, Emmett was loved and cared for... but that was long ago. No one
has assessed his age, but he's got the sugar face, wisdom and gentle
warm ways that grab our hearts. It is apparent that he'd been on the
mean streets long enough to develop major dental problems and a scary
and uncertain issue with his hind quarters – apparently making
improvement already! We all know about Ardis and her army at DPR. I
don't think anyone can count the number of canines Ardis has helped
but it has to be in the thousands. Dental care and x-rays don't come
cheaply and it's just the first step in doing right by dear Emmett.
We are hoping for a simple diagnosis for Emmett so he can run alongside
a forever person who treasures his company. Think of your Seniors and
how much devotion they give you, their human. Please donate to Emmett's
fund by clicking on the PayPal button to the right (the gift option
even saves the fees even more) so he can have that chance, too.
As always, mail
works fine too!! Want to look into the eyes of wise eyes waiting?
Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org
and take a bask in his sunshine! Thank you from Emmett, Doberman
Pinscher Rescue, Special Needs Dobermans and me, Leslie Michell-Young,
SND Case Manager. There is NOTHING more precious that a Senior Dobe!! |

Petey
!!
|
April, 2021: Silly, cute little Petey is only 18 months old and he's been dumped. He wound up as a stray in a shelter--and he stayed there too, in spite of the fact that his "family" was located. They were going to come get him, they just didn't. Ever. They were contacted several times and just blew him off. Eventually Rescue was able to grab him and they did. Sweet Melissa and her Bluegrass Doberman Rescue Angels had just been waiting to get their loving arms around him! As so often is the case, he is better off abandoned than with his "family." You know, the people who deliberately lost him and then refused to claim him... yes, them. He's better off because Melissa and BDR (and SND and me) will kill off his heartworms. Of course he has heartworms! You didn't think they took care of him before they took him on that one-way ride, did you? So it is left to those of us who care, actually care, to heal him and make his life good, safe and happy. He is very sweet and very energetic. Perhaps that was part of the problem, maybe they had no idea of how much pure energy is contained in a Dobe puppy of his age. He loves his foster-sister but is keeping everyone on their toes trying to keep him calm. It is going to be a long few months of recovery but he is so lovable his foster family is more than willing to put in the effort! Luckily he's good in his crate as he'll see more of it than he'd like during his treatment! He takes his medicine like a trooper, is housebroken and good on a leash. He's learning his manners too. He can sit, and down, and is working hard on stay--but that's hard for a happy, wiggly young Dober-boy! He obviously has a bright future once the damned worms are gone. Please consider helping BDR and SND kill his worms! You may begin helping Petey by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, the gift option even saves the fees so even more pennies go to Petey! USPS is ready and willing also! I know I come to you with a lot of heartworm cases, and there are more in our future but each one is a battle won and a Dobe saved and I thank you most sincerely for your help! Need a look/see at Petey in a rare 'pensive' mood? He's thinking of how happy his future looks now!! Click right here https://www.doberman911.org and share his thoughts! THANK YOU!! Ginger

UPDATE
- April, 2021:
Hello
once again to Miss Ginger from Dog Mountain! Fifteen months later
Poor Ginger is baaaack with a case of intractable gastrointestinal issues.
Originally guestimated to be 3-4 years old, her vets revised that guess
to at least seven years old at this time. Her issues, now exacerbated
with age, remain a consternation to her DMR Angels and her vets.
As reported by DMR "...Ginger had some dental work done early in
2020. The work was satisfactory and helped her probable pain and poor
eating habits. Unfortunately, she came down with diarrhea and no
matter how hard we tried, we couldn't cure it. She had all kinds of treatments
and medications, including Vitamin B-12, tylosin, metronidazole, and anything
else the vets could think of. Nothing worked to stop the diarrhea.
Our vet suggested that we go to an internal medicine vet.
We made an appointment and the vet performed several procedures and suggested
that an endoscopic procedure was the logical next step next step..."
Specialist-level diagnostics do not come cheaply and DMR has tried to
keep up with Ginger's expenses but they have become overwhelming over
the last year. They have returned to us for help which we now ask
you to join in with us to see that Ginger gets what she needs. Won't
you join us? Her donation links still work as before so please
make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or by mailing
in your donation. THANK YOU from Senior Lady Miss Ginger who will
soon have her own Senior Page with many new pix, DMR and SND too!
SND Case Team. Update: Miss Gingert's Senior Page is now ready for viewing here https://www.doberman911.org/seniors/cases/ca_ginger.html. What a pretty Lady! Pay her a visit and send her some sponsorship love too!! January, 2020: Look at this sweet face! Her name is Ginger. Ginger is a red girl about 3-4 years old, turned in to a Northern California County Shelter by her owner. At the time she was approximately one year old. Owner lived in an apartment and Ginger lived outside. She was not spayed and not up to date on vaccines, no chip and owner didn't know how she was with other dogs or cats! She does like children! She was very fearful and nervous in the shelter and was very stressed. Can't blame the poor baby! All she wanted was attention. Dog Mountian Rescue was notified by a Doberman list in CA that she was in the shelter. Ginger was not approved for general adoption due to her stress level and shyness. Unbelievable to me that someone could have a lovely girl like Ginger and totally ignore her! So, Ginger has been in rescue for some time now and has always been a great eater, so, on Friday 12-27-2019 when she refused to eat her breakfast they knew something was not right. The rescue's vet clinic is closed on weekends so they decided to watch her very closely over the weekend. She was taken to the vet Monday morning as she refused any food over the weekend, although she was drinking water. The vet kept her for the day and did testing finding nothing accept a slightly elevated while blood count. The vet wanted to keep her overnight for observation which is something they don't usually do. As they were talking the vet noticed blood coming from Ginger's nose. So next morning she was put under anesthetic to see what was going on and found three very bad teeth which were extracted. Due to bone loss her gums had to be sutured. Obviously this was the problem as her appetite came back quite quickly. She also had a little gastritis which didn't help her appetite. So finally, with a large bag of medications, she was able to go home where she slowly began to eat soft food and softened kibble. She is currently doing very well and gaining weight. Ginger is once again excited to see her meals coming. Her recovery will take some time, but once her antibiotics are finished she should be fine. Dog Mountian Rescue needs our help paying for her vet care and hopefully she willl be adoptable soon. Once you see Ginger's sweet, sweet face you will only want to help this very young, lovely girl. Thank you in advance for all you do for these beautiful souls. You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or by mailing in your donation. Every little bit helps, please share Ginger's story on your social media and with anyone who loves animals. Want another shot of Red Lady Love?? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. THANK YOU!! Nancy Harwood, Ginger's SND Case Manager. |

Sienna
!!
|
April, 2021: This sweet baby is Sienna. Don’t her beautiful, trusting eyes just melt your heart! Sienna truly is just a baby as she is only four months old. Four months old, barely old enough to be away from her mother, and already rescued off of the streets! When she was picked up as a stray by shelter staff, it was obvious she was in serious pain and had a severely injured rear leg as it was just ‘dangling.’ I can’t even think about the intense pain this poor puppy had to be in. How long she suffered is anyone’s guess, the same as it’s anyone’s guess as to what happened to cause this dreadful injury – hit by a car? Physically abused? Whatever it was, it had to be totally traumatizing for her. Sienna was x-rayed at the shelter which determined a fracture at the knee joint. This was more than an animal shelter could provide for which resulted in the Rescue Angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue located in Fillmore, California being contacted to assist Sienna. Sienna’s knee was completely shattered and the only option for treatment was amputation. DPR’s Rescue Angels routinely rescue and provide whatever medical treatment is needed for ill and injured Dobermans, and Sienna is no exception. Won’t you please help SND and the DPR warriors with Sienna’s medical expenses? NO amount is ever too small and every little bit adds up! Your gift can be mailed or you can use PayPal (if able, please click on ‘friends and family’ and ‘send money’ to avoid a fee-free donation). We at SND as well as the amazing Rescue Angels greatly appreciate all you do to assist in keeping the rescues afloat. Want to see Sienna cradled in love with her chauffeur? Just look at sweetness here https://www.doberman911.org! Thank you so very much for your continued support. Beth McCahren, Sienna's SND Case Manager. |

Nikki
!!
|
March, 2021 : This gorgeous smile belongs to Nikki, a happy member of Ardis's and Doberman Pinscher Rescue's pack in Fillmore, California. It's difficult to understand why she's smiling, as she was recently surrendered this past January after being adopted from DPR in July 2016 when she was just a pup at 2 years old, making her a Senior now at 7 years old. Her adoptive family claimed they couldn't afford Nikki's vet bills which obviously begs the question of whether she had any veterinary care at all - above the very basic of basics. At any rate, Nikki has two growths on her leg that need excision and pathology study, and as many know, with Ardis and DPR, they will MAKE a way to afford veterinary care for their pack. Special Needs Dobermans is happy and forever grateful to Ardis and all the Rescues that make happiness and health possible for so many Dobermans. Please have a look at this beautiful girl's face and mail a contribution to SND and know Nikki will be soon be without those pesky lumps on her lovely, long legs. You may begin helping Miss Nikki by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. The gift option even saves the fees! The USPS will also work as well and there's never any fees! THANK YOU!! Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager - longtime sucker for Dobes!

Gus
!!
|
March, 2021: This sweet, young Doberboy is a true testament to the resilience, loyalty and sweet personality of the Doberman. Gus is only 18 months old, recently adopted and living the good life until everything changed. Gus' new “owner” came home from work only to find Gus vomiting and very ill. He finally stopped vomiting but was very restless for several hours and started vomiting again. A trip to the vet led to suspicions of bloat and the fact that he needed immediate surgery. The owner was informed the cost could exceed $5000 and he decided he could not afford that. He, thankfully, contacted DRNV and the decision was made to save Gus' life if the owner would surrender him back to DRNV. He did surrender him and Gus immediately went into surgery. Good news - it was not bloat, bad news - he had a sock that was now in his intestine. Opening the intestine is a pretty scary thing, lots of very infectious stuff in there! But, with lots of fluids and antibiotics his recovery began. He was not given food, only fluids for two days, then small feedings initially. Gus didn't show much interest in food at first, but soon he started eating everything offered and recovery was on the way! For the first time ever DRNV was faced with an adopter who refused to provide medical treatment. If not for the rescue angels at DRNV, Gus would have died, but DRNV refused to give up on this sweet boy! The bill is very large but seeing a life saved is invaluable. The end of this story (we hope) is that Gus has already been adopted by a great couple who recently lost their beloved, handsome Doberman to the horrible DCM at only 7 years old. They of course were devastated and very concerned about their 18 year old terrier mix. Well, enter Gus and within an hour he and the little old lady, Bacardi, were fast friends. As Gus settled into his new soft bed, Bacardi gave his face a good washing as he dozed. If Gus could talk he would probably call her Nana! I think this is going to be a wonderful soft place for Gus to land. The only question left is "who saved who?” I know first-hand how horrible and scary obstruction is as I lost my first Doberman to an obstruction at only six years old. Gus was very fortunate to have DRNV to step up for him and we want to help them with the vet bills for this precious youngster and to do that, we need people like YOU to help. Please, if you can donate to Gus we would all be forever appreciative! You can make a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button (use the ‘send money’ and ‘family and friends’ tabs if able) or mailing in a donation. Want to see more of our handsome, healing, sweet Dude? Just look at him here https://www.doberman911.org! Thank you from all at DRNV and SND! Nancy Harwood, Gus' SND Case Manager. |

Willow
!!
|
March, 2021: Tiny, skinny Willow was running loose on the Interstate. A few days later, the shelter called about yet another Interstate dog. They are assumed to be sisters. Willow's teeth look worse, but still, neither looks to be even a year old. Obviously some BYB breeding for money dumped his culls. DUMPED them on an Interstate highway. Why? Perhaps he figured they'd die faster, getting hit by a semi instead of a family car? Whatever the reasoning was, they are safe now. Bluegrass Doberman Rescue will not let anything bad happen to any Dobe and we all know sweet Melissa and little red girls-what a softie!! Very tiny and thin, Willow is learning to trust people again and has learned to give Dobie-kisses once she knows you. These dogs are unbelievable aren't they? Life was certainly scary and painful yet they are willing to trust again… I wish it was as easy as some weight and some socialization between Willow and a forever home, but it isn't or I wouldn't need to bring this to the Doberman community. Willow's liver levels are very high. Bile acid tests and other liver tests--always high. She can't seem to gain weight and drinks and pees a lot. During her spay, they did a liver biopsy, along with a dexamethasone suppression test. Melissa and her Angels are awaiting the results with baited breath. Could it be Cushing's? Hepatitis? A copper storage issue? Diagnostics and treatment are mounting up in expense rapidly. Please consider helping BDR and SND with the veterinary costs to get this girl ready for life! She most certainly deserves a chance, doesn't she? You may begin helping Willow by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, gifting options save even more! USPS always works too, it's what I do! I certainly can't thank you enough for your continued support of these precious SNDobies!!!! We'll all wait for the test results together! Want to see a beautiful DobeGirlie while we wait? Just look at her here https://www.doberman911.org! THANK YOU!! Carol Belknap, Willow's SND Case Manager. |

Arlo
!!
|
March, 2021: We all know the term ‘when it rains it pours’. With that in mind, let me introduce you to Arlo. Arlo is an eight month old baby who was surrendered to the Rescue Angels of Tennessee Doberman Rescue Plus by his breeder/owner because he has three very serious and costly to treat health ailments that she was unable to provide for. The first ailment to address is his liver. Following a bile acid test and a CT scan, Arlo was diagnosed with an intrahepatic liver shunt. The very condensed explanation is Arlo has abnormal blood vessels in his liver that are preventing blood to flow through the liver properly and must be corrected. This is literally a life and death situation that Arlo requires surgery for. Life is unsustainable without a functioning liver, and the surgery will cost a minimum of $7,000 and could rise to possibly $12,000. Following his recovery from this delicate operation, Arlo faces surgery for entropion. Entropion is a serious and painful eye condition where the eyelid(s) rolls back into the eye causing the eyelashes to rub and scratch the cornea. Untreated Arlo would have unresolved pain as well as the likelihood of permanent damage and blindness itself. We all know what one eyelash in our eye feels like, so imagine your entire eye being scratched by your lashes 24/7. And last but not least, Arlo also has an undescended testicle which will be addressed with his medically complicated neutering. No treatment for the cryptorchid testis is not an option as Arlo could face testicular torsion (twisting) and an increased risk of developing cancer. Just providing for even one of these operations is costly, but three…!! To add to all of this, the specialist providing surgery for the liver shunt does not offer a payment plan or a rescue discount!! These costs could be devastating to any rescue, but the Angels of TDR+ tell us the even though Arlo is a very sick puppy, he is also a true sweetheart and they have vowed to give him a happy and healthy future. Bella
!!
|
March, 2021: Here's a girl that can tell you stories of travel - of mystery and heartbreak - but also of love and playing games. Bella is somewhere around 10 and no one knows for certain, as originally, she was turned into a shelter in Oregon for - of all things - chicken murder (seriously, who equates chickens on the same scale with Dobes?). This shelter subsequently adopted Bella out to a household who claimed she roughhoused with the resident small dog too exuberantly. Soooooo... our lovely girl was sent off to Red Bluff, where she came under the loving and watchful eyes of the lovely, late Dana Johnson. Dana kept Bella among her personal pack and almost immediately discovered Bella was loving, happy, adored other dogs and played happily with her packmates. Dana placed Bella with a wonderful gentleman who happens to be an amputee. It was bliss for a long time until Bella's lovely adopter's health started to fail. Sadly, yet fortunately, our friend, Ann of Dog Mountain Rescue learned of Bella's dilemma and took Bella under her wing. Bella has visited Dog Mountain's vet, who discovered a growth on Bella's face, which needs removal. While at this time, we don't know the costs of the procedure, we do know that a pathology study will be in order. I ask you to think about all the Dobermans and other dogs that Ann and her army have taken into their fold in the past several years. Dog Mountain is a relatively new rescue and their resources are not infinite and actually, in times of isolation and pandemic, resources are stretched to their absolute maximum. Ann has asked SND for help in fundraising for this beautiful girl's upcoming surgery. Bella is a very beautiful, sassy senior and she deserves to stay beautiful and healthy. You may begin helping Miss Bella by clicking on the PayPal button to the right and sending to friends options saves the fees too! Of course, USPS works too and any amount always matters!! As a Senior, Miss Bella will soon have her own Senior Page and for now she'll be our Cover Girl too - want another Beautiful Picture of Bella Blue? Just visit her here https://www.doberman911.org! Thank you from Bella, Ann and me, a true lover of the blues. Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager - Bella's Buddy |

Zoey
!!
|
March, 2021 : Yet another Zoey has come needing help. Another senior girl at 6 years old. It's a familiar story but still a sad one… Her owner moved to San Francisco, great for him but he got an apartment that wouldn't accept a dog. I can't believe the apartment was more important than his 6 year old dog. Six years, that's quite a bond--or should have been. He left her with his mom, ok… except she couldn't deal with an active dog (who was probably lost and grieving for her person). After all the 'you keep her', 'No, you keep her' was over she wound up in the best possible place for her--rescue. Sad state of affairs but so very common--rescue to the rescue. This was Dog Mountain Rescue and sweet Ann didn't hesitate, she took her. And found Zoey was so good and nice, Ann took her right into her house. There is only one little thing between her and a forever home. Zoey has a black mass on her vulva which was kind of blocking things up. So DMR's trusty vet decided it didn't look cancerous, but it did need to come off and a biopsy showed he was right! Yayyy! So, with the help of SND--and YOU, Dog Mountain Rescue is getting that little blockage removed. It shouldn't be a big surgery but it couldn't be free of course. Please consider helping Zoey with her little problem so she can go home for good. You know, with someone that won't dump her for an apartment in San Fran. You may begin helping Zoey by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. The gift option even saves the fees! The USPS will work too! Just look at how many cases DMR's had since the neginning of the year and there are two more coming! They need our help - yours and ours!! We at SND are so continually grateful for your continued support of our SNDobies!! Thank you!! Carol Belknap, Zoey's SND Case Manager. |

Blueberry
!
|
UPDATE
- March, 2021:
Hello
again to Miss Blueberry! She's a blast from the past who was welcomed
by Dog Mountain Rescue back in 2018. As a Senior Lady who has
aged several more years, the many issues she had were taken care of
as much as possible and she's been pretty healthy (and still VERY pretty
:)) given the intractable nature of of her skin issues. Her
skin issues have flared again and she's been having stubborn UTI's that
needed investigating. She's been on antibiotics of course but
a culture was done to determine what bugs were causing the recurrences. Well
we're not giving up on Miss Blueberry and our Senior Medical Fund will
make sure she sontinues to get all the veterinary attention she needs!!
You'll help too, won't you? Donation instructions are still the
same. Of course you will and you'll be roundly thanked by Miss
Blueberry, DMR and SND too!! |

Uncle
Bruce !!
|
March, 2021: Look at this handsome Dober-dude! He's at least 10 years old and sure doesn't look it! Uncle Bruce is a most deserving forever foster dog--and not only because his Dad was killed in action fighting for our country--but because of how he has gotten on with life after losing his companion-person-Dad. While he is being treated for anaplasmosis and erlichia, he is busy being a Spokes-Dobe for High Desert Doberman Rescue! They are honored to be his designated advocates and cannot say enough good about this old dude. He is excellent at puppy-watch duty and when he gets time off from that, he represents HDDR at any and all public functions. He is the perfect Senior Dobe!! Fortunately the whole High Desert pack loves him too as they alerted Anthony of a problem one stormy, windy night… (well, it was 4:30 am, still night in my book). It seems the storm and wind had brought down a plethora of pecans from their trees earlier that day and for some reason Uncle Bruce decided to eat some (well, more than just some)… and the problems started. So everyone went and told Anthony, who checked Uncle Bruce and found him in distress. His belly was taut and he was posturing painfully, poor boy. A quick dose of simethicone and a bumpy ride to the ER for emergency surgery. It's not a cheap surgery but Brucie is very worth the time and money. At least HDDR and SND think so--and we hope you will too. He was hospitalized and he may have dodged that surgery bullet after an all night vigil of fluid therapy - we are hopeful that he is beyond danger now. Intensive care and/or surgery is NOT inexpensive as we all know, expecially at the emergency clinic. Please consider helping this Dober-gent get back to his good life at Rancho Doberado!! You may begin helping Uncle Bruce by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. The gift options even save the fees! USPS works too and no help is too little to matter!!! Uncle Bruce is a Senior Gent and already has his own Senior Page another great pic of this DUDE - just visit him here https://doberman911.org/seniors/cases/nm_unclebruce.html and send him some Sponsorship love too if you want! As always, we at SND thank you most sincerely for your continued support of our SNDobies!!!! Thank you!! Carol Belknap, Uncle Bruce's SND Case Manager. |

Sounder
!!
|
UPDATE
- February, 2021:
Who
can forget this magnificent face? Sounder is an adoption eligible Dobe
at Dog Mountain Rescue in CA, and was a beneficiary of SND a few years
back (read his 1st SND venture following). Sounder has been doing very
well living in a house and has had no health problems when out of the
blue, he started peeing in the house. He was tested for an infection
and results were inclusive when it was noticed that Sounder was chewing
the rug mat. A day or so later, Ann discovered fibers from the rug mat
in Sounder's stool. It looks like Sounder has developed an obstruction,
and he's been started on appropriate medications in the hope that he
will pass the remaining fibers without surgery. Sounder is now 10 years
old and obstruction surgery carries a boatload of risks, even for a
youngster. SND has promised to stand by Dog Mountain Rescue, Ann and
Sounder to assist in whatever it takes to get Sounder happy and healthy
once again. As I said, who can forget this wonderful guy? Thank
you for you continued support and send a donation for Sounder to SND.
You can make
your tax deductible donation by mail
or PayPal with a
click to the button on the right. Want to see some Blue Velvet?
Just click here https://www.doberman911.org
and see a regal pose!! Profound thanks from Ann, Sounder and me, Leslie

Diesel
!!
|
February, 2021 : Diesel is a true sweetheart of a young Dobe! Only two years old and barely out of puppyhood, he’s already been let down by his humans (humans?) which invariably put him into a precarious position. Diesel found himself discarded in a shelter with paper work only stating he was both a stray and an owner surrender. Either way, stray or surrendered, he was yet another throw away pup. The shelter staff knew Diesel needed care they couldn’t provide and thankfully they had the good sense to contact the rescue angels of Dog Mountain Rescue located in Willits, California. Upon receiving Diesel into their care, the DMR rescue squad quickly noticed three masses between his hind legs. Three testicles or trouble brewing? Naturally, he was quickly examined by their veterinarian who surmises that at least one of the masses might be an actual tumor. The tumor needed to be removed and biopsied for an exact diagnosis and follow up treatment plan. Once in surgery, it was found that the mass was actually a cyst which could be simply excised and it was! DMR is a smaller rescue but they still get their share of medical cases. Our financial assistance would be extremely welcomed to help provide Diesel with his surgery and aftercare he needs to move onto a happy, healthy life. Let us all help Diesel on his way to going from a throw away pup to a beloved family member. I’m sure we can all agree that Diesel deserves this chance. Please remember, NO donation is ever too small and every gift is appreciated! You can click on PayPal (if able, please use the tabs *friends and family* as well as *send money* to avoid fees) or you can always use the USPS to send your donation. It’s you and our SND family who helps keep many Doberman rescues afloat enabling them to help even more Dobes in need. The rescues and our SND case managers are so grateful for your continued generosity!! THANK YOU! Beth McCahren, Diesel's SND Case Manager. |

Bella
!!
|
February, 2021 : This gorgeous girl is Bella, who now resides with J9’s Doberman and Bunny Rescue in Detroit. Bella's story is as convoluted as it is disturbing, but she now is enjoying life as it should be after a very kind person rescued her from certain doom before she traveled to J9's Rescue. Bella had been abandoned when the people(?) who owned her moved and decided it was easier to lock her in the garage to starve to death rather than make any effort to take responsibility for their loving and loyal Doberman. Fortunately - and just in the nick of time - a loving human discovered Bella and rescued the nearly starved, sick girl and took it upon themselves to rehabilitate her back to health, obviously saving her life. While this wonderful and exemplary gesture was successful, our heroic human's other dogs did not think much of welcoming Bella into their pack, and Bella was surrendered to J9's Rescue and Jeannine welcomed beautiful Bella into her fold. Although Bella seemed quite well when she was surrendered, she continues to have a very curious envelope of skin on her chest that fills with fluid and that has been drained several times. On her last visit to her vet, it was agreed the skin should be excised and the edges sutured together so Bella doesn't have a flap of skin hanging off her chest. The skin will be sent to pathology and when Bella is under anesthesia she'll also have a dental visit... and once this sweetie awakens, she'll be perfect! J9's Rescue is a very small and busy rescue and being in an urban area, they are always stretching their finances. Bella is getting amazing, personal care and everyone at the rescue is falling head over heels for her (I know I am)! She is vibrant, happy affectionate and breathtakingly beautiful. Bella is the perfect example of Doberman love and beauty. Please send a few dollars to SND so Jeannine and her cohorts can continue to transform dogs like Bella into some lucky someone’s beautiful DobeLady. Every cent will go to Bella's care… AND, you can feast your eyes on the stunning girl, knowing you took part in her journey... BELLISSMA! You can make your tax deductible donation by mail or PayPal with a click to the button on the right. Thank you!! Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager and Bella Admirer!! |

Lulu
!!
|
February 2021 : Lulu wasn't even 2 1/2 years old… and she's gone. Her life over in spite of the best efforts of Doberman Pinscher Rescue. Here is her story and I hope you will keep reading because Ardis and her Angels have been hit hard lately - and no sunshine at the end of the day. Lulu's Dober-Dad is in the military. When he was deployed, he left Lulu with his folks. After a while they noticed very small of amounts of irregular stool. This continued for a week and a half and they decided it was time for a vet visit. A somewhat shocking visit at that. They were informed there was a blockage and given an estimate of the cost… well, again we meet the COVID economy. There was no way they could begin to afford it due to the financial hardship they're living under during the pandemic. Sadly, they had no time for GoFundMe or anything else - she needed help NOW. Because they loved her… because they "would have driven to the moon" for her, they signed her over to DPR, just in case she could be saved. Doberman Pinscher Rescue will always help, period. They took her in and immediately to the vet. Her fever was 104 at that point. She was put on an enteric antibiotic, and they began working to get her ready for surgery. But it was too late already, she was septic. There was nothing to be done but humane euthanasia. It is hard to lose the battle for a beautiful life. Rescues often have to be the one to make the call, that most unselfish of all calls - and then pick up and keep going because the phone will ring again, anytime now… Please consider joining DPR and SND in paying Lulu's bills. You never know when the phone will ring. You may start helping Lulu now by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. "Gifting" even saves the fees; and the mail may be slow still, but it works just fine. Thank you - from all the SNDobies and from me. Carol Belknap, Lulu's SND Case Manager, (I have a candle lit for her). |

Vino
!!
|
February 2021 : For once I'm not coming to you screaming for blood. I don't think Vino's people really dropped the ball as much as the ball dropped on them. He's 5 1/2 years old and didn't come to Doberman Pinscher Rescue beat up and full of heartworms. In fact, he came to rescue recovering from stomach surgery and ear infections. I'm afraid his family might not have been able to run up even more vet bills in this time of COVID economics. At any rate he went right to a foster home who took him for a re-check of the ear infections, and the world turned upside down for this poor boy. The vet noticed some muscle atrophy in his right shoulder and some restricted mobility in his neck, possibly nerve related. This was in November and since then the foster has done all she could for him, but it wasn't enough. His pain level has grown quickly. He became unable to walk without pain. He was unable to lay down comfortably or to lower his head for food or water. An MRI was necessary to determine the source. It was completed but even preliminary results were devastating. It appears there is a tumor pressing on his spine. Inoperable was the verdict and he will be relieved of his pain. So I obviously can't bring you the happy ending, except perhaps for Vino, but I can bring you the plea of helping DPR and SND with the pain of his loss and the vet bills he leaves behind. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want some other dog to miss their chance because he broke the bank, so to speak. You can begin to help Vino by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. The gift option saves the fees too! The mail may still be moving slow - but it is steady and will get us your check with no problem. I thank you for helping another new SNDobie. I thank you for helping time after time, even when there is no happy ending. I thank you… Carol Belknap, Vino's SND Case Manager. |

Redd
!!
|
January, 2021 : Say hello to precious Redd! Redd is 5 years young and is said to be just the sweetest boy you could ever meet! He’s wonderful in the home and with his foster sister, and he just adores his foster mother! So what would posess his former so called ‘owner’ to make the decision to throw him out into the yard and then just forget about him?? (Your guess is as good as mine.) It was obvious he was in serious need of medical care, but there Redd sat, outside all alone with his health continuing to decline. Luckily, the ex-wife and children talked him into relinquishing Redd into the care of the awesome Rescue Angels of Georgia Doberman Rescue. Redd had an obvious growth on his face that would absolutely need to be removed, he was found to be heartworm positive and he also had a raging UTI that needed aggressive treatment. Pain? You bet! The UTI was addressed and surgery was performed for a long overdue neuter as well as an excision and biopsy of the facial mass . The biopsy results came back as malignant melanoma so the next step was to see an oncologist. Redd’s prognosis is approximately five months without treatment, and three plus years with the melanoma vaccine!! This vaccine has logged many successes and we're confident that following a clean excision and the lack of any metastatic activity, Redd has a good chance of an extended cancer-free life! Here’s where we need our SND family to pitch in and help Redd and the GDR Angels. Redd will need four injections over a two month period at $800 per dose, then his maintenance treatment will be an injection every six months. Plus, Redd’s heartworms need to be addressed and that treatment is also quite costly. So, as you can see, Redd’s total rehab is going to be very expensive. The GDR Rescue Angels all agree that Redd is worth every penny it takes to make him well, so do we and we hope YOU do too! His body will eventually feel good again after being sick for so long and he’ll finally be able to enjoy life as the beloved family member he always should have been. Sometimes it takes a village, and WE are the village! We are asking for your assistance in helping GDR provide Redd’s life saving treatments. NO amount is ever too small and Redd needs us! Please begin helping Redd and be a part of his new life! You can make your tax deductible donation by mail or PayPal with a click to the button on the right. As always, we at SND as well as the rescues want to thank you for your continued support!! Our work couldn’t continue with you! Want to see some "Splendor in the Grass" soon to be renewed like Handsome Redd?? Just click here https://www.doberman911.org and see some promises of Spring to come!! THANK YOU!! Beth McCahren, Redd's SND Case Manager. |

Zoey
!!
|
January, 2021 : Zoey's life has been hell, all 5 years or so of it. Her "loving" owner took her to the vet when she was critically ill with pyometra. Faced with a surgery bill and a worthless (spayed) dog, he opted for euthanasia. I suppose we should be grateful he didn't just shoot her. An ER vet asked the owner to surrender to her for treatment and re-homing. The vet treated the infection and the County Shelter did the spay… So life is looking up, right? Well no… not really not so much. Her spay was just that, a baseline county shelter deal. Her numerous other issues were not addressed - such as a teat that was bleeding from the cancer it held. It was the biggest of her hugely ponderous teats. Or the underdeveloped rear-leg musculature from living litter to litter in a small enclosure. Or the callus on her beautiful nose from rubbing on the cage wire. Zoey was alive, being fed and going home with the ER vet. Life was probably as good at that moment as it had been since she first came into heat - but even this imitation of life wasn't to be. Her "adopter" had 2 small dogs who took great exception to this big black intruder, never giving her a break. Exercising pulled on her staples when jogging with the wife and kids. Zoey was sore and confused and eventually she told the little dogs to behave. She didn't bite or anything, just the kind of warning an "experienced" female would use on her puppies. Poor sweet girl, still alone and afraid and hurting in spite of being "saved." Thankfully this was enough to make the owners call Doberman Rescue of Nevada. They wanted to re-home their beautiful 2 year old described as all shots up to date; spayed; had a litter but in great shape; super sweetie. (No mention of cancer or mastitis. Not a clue as to her real age or former occupation.) Little did they know the truth would only have made the Getters drive faster! These true Rescue Angels will never turn down a Dobe and they wrapped this sweetie in loving arms. Finally she has been rescued!!! Truthfully it has saved her life as the cancerous mammaries will be removed. In a quick look it seems there is no sign of cancer anywhere but there - her chest and abdomen are free of tumors. It will be a mutiple mastectomy with decisions being made as they go to assure her ability to recover. Zoey is a great Dober-lady, she has all the wonderful Doberman traits - with "est" after each!!! She most definitely deserves a good, long life with a family that utterly adores her. If I were not so far away, I'd bring her home in a heartbeat (anyone comin' my way?) This is a big surgery, the bill will be enormous, in fact it is already growing quickly due to everything she needs right now. DRNV and SND are determined to make it all possible for her!! Won't you please consider helping too? You may begin helping Zoey by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Make it a gift and it even saves the fees! USPS is a little slow right now, but it'll get there! There are so many reasons in her story for the Great Doberman Community to come forward and help make right so many wrongs!! As always, I thank you sincerely for your continued support of these SNDobies!! Want a peek at this beautiful girl's "good" side? Click here https://www.doberman911.org and look at what she'll look eventually look like on both sides - healed and beautiful! Thank you!! Carol Belknap, Zoey's SND Case Manager and fan. |

Boone
!!

UPDATE:
Boone
had his surgery today and unfortunately, once inside, it was obvious
that this fracture was too old to expect any kind of knitting of bones
here. Boone's leg was amputated - he lost his limb but not his
life and that is the best part. He will have the best life possible
from now on!! Heal dear boy - your happy future awaits you!
Please continue to support the effort to get him to his new happy life!
Thank you to those of you who have already touched this boy with love!! |

Marie
!!
|
January, 2021 : Little Marie was a stray in a Southern shelter. Luckily for her, the shelter contacted Bluegrass Doberman Rescue, who will never leave a Dobe behind! Marie is maybe 2 years old and all puppy! A cute, sweet playful little girl who can finally truly be a puppy. You see, she has obviously been busy being the Momma-dog. Now she gets to learn so many things! People don't all suck, it's okay to pee on grass instead of concrete, Foster-Moms aren't chew toys - the stuff she should have learned already in life instead of having to raise puppies! Marie is a quick study though and has already learned all of that and more! I hear she's sweet as pumpkin pie! There's one more thing between her and becoming someone's darling girl - heartworms. You didn't see that coming? Really? Nothing can stop the worm battle - or me from bringing it to you. Not even COVID. I won't stop fighting them - and neither will Melissa! So please consider joining BDR and SND in the 2021 Worm Wars! With your help we can make a real difference! You can begin helping Marie by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, gift options save fees too! The mailman awaits your stamped envelope and remember, no help is too small! Our SNDobies (and I) are deeply grateful for your continued support. Want to see those beautiful eyes close up? Just click her: Just click here https://www.doberman911.org and then send Miss Marie some sugar!! THANK YOU!! Carol Belknap, Marie's SND Case Manager. |

Sherwin
!!
|
January, 2021 : I can't tell you anything about Sherwin's previous 5 years, except that they weren't all good. Obviously, or he wouldn't have been a stray picked up by animal control, sick and intact. But bad times and stupid people didn't ruin this goofy, loving boy. Thanks to sweet Melissa and her Rescue Angels of Bluegrass Doberman Rescue, the rest of his life will be love and good health. That is after his heartworms die. And die they must. That's right, it's me, the Worm Witch, bringing you another heartworm positive dog. And like all the others he is very worthy of saving! Fresh off the street, his Foster-mom can't find a negative thing to say about him. He is loving and friendly - he already has a crush on a cute little red girlie! He simply loves to be petted and actually gets sad when you stop. Melissa is thinking we should call it "Petting Separation Anxiety.'' A very real thing among Dobes - don't you think? He has already learned to sit to be fed, although if you wait too long the drool river starts! Gotta love the droolers! I do anyway… So, SND and BDR are killing more worms and we hope you'll want to help! You can begin helping Sherwin by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Using the gift option even saves the fees (another worm dead). The USPS will also get it to us even if it's running a little slower right now. It all works and it's all good. As always, no amount is too small and no help is too little! As always I most sincerely thank you for your continued support of our SNDobies! Want another peek at a Chippendale DUDE?? Just click here https://www.doberman911.org and then put some coin of the realm under his collar!! THANK YOU!! Carol Belknap, Sherwin's SND Case Manager. |

December 2020 Still Active Cases
Diego
!!
|
December, 2020: This gorgeous little pup’s name is Diego. He’s still a baby, only nine to maybe eleven months old. He's not a very large boy but with BYBers - you never know what to expect. Don’t those soulful eyes just melt your heart! Well, get ready for Diego’s story to have a different type of affect on your heart. As is the case more often than not, rescues usually have no history on most of the dogs they save, and Diego is no exception to that rule. Luckily, the Rescue Angels of High Desert Doberman Rescue got wind of Diego and they set off to do whatever was needed to take care of any needs he might have. When they first met Diego he originally presented with a lame right rear leg. It was suspected he’d been hit by a car. The leg was casted and it recovered quite nicely. Everyone thought all was well until 12/14/20 when he began vomiting and was very lethargic. The first thought was a bowel obstruction. An exploratory surgery revealed no obstruction but instead hidden injuries: torn bladder, damaged spleen and many adhesions. This baby had been suffering but because of the stoic Doberman demeanor, he hid it quite successfully until he could hide it no more. The new diagnostic findings reveal poor Diego was hit hard by a car very early in his young life, it’s amazing he even survived! You can only imagine how hard this has hit the rescue with all of the surgeries and multiple treatments Diego has needed. HDDR has come to our SND family for assistance with Diego’s medical care. Your donation will even be doubled during our ‘Make Santa Pay’ campaign!! No gift is ever too small, and the rescues definitely need our help to stay solvent. You can make your tax deductible donation by mail or PayPal. Just take a look at this brave DobeKid here https://www.doberman911.org and then... Let’s send some Christmas spirit to Diego and his dedicated Rescue Angels!! Thank you one and all for everything you do to sustain our recues!! Beth McCahren, Diego's SND Case Manager. |

Bonita
!!
|
December, 2020: This darling adolescent DobeGirl (estimated to be about 4 years old) is now known as Bonita (aka Pretty Girl). She was found on the streets in El Paso, Texas. She was unable to walk or even get up. Animal Services transported her to Eastwood Animal Clinic and from that point on - the 20th of November - Bonita's luck changed. High Desert Doberman Rescue in New Mexico was contacted and Anthony and his army mobilized and made sure Bonita would receive the extensive care she needed. Both this dear lady's rear legs were fractured, the left leg in several places (see x-ray below), most likely from a confrontation with a moving vehicle. Bonita looks like a giant stepped on her - the fact that she survived is amazing and what's even more astonishing is that she's alert, friendly and ready to make friends and give love. Bonita was finally discharged on December 5th to a watchful foster home, where she will slowly learn to stand, walk and be treasured. Bonita's hospital stay and additional expenses has cost over $4000.00 so far - not counting future physical therapy and rehabilitation which she will most assuredly need. HDDR is a small rescue and the volunteers are happy to give everything they have to care for severe cases such as Bonita's, but they simply cannot save other Bonita's without the help of generous friends and Special Needs Dobermans. We've had some extremely heart wrenching cases in 2020, and SND with your help has been the organization that has made the difference for so many struggling rescues. So please, send in a donation to SND to help precious Bonita and High Desert Doberman Rescue. . Please begin helping Bonita by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Sending money to a friend option in PayPal gives more (it saves the fees too)! USPS can deliver your gift for Bonita too!! NOTE: SECRET SANTA WILL MATCH YOUR DONATION DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR!! How about a now standing up Bonita? Just click here https://www.doberman911.org and then send Miss Bonita your love and good wishes! Thank you for your generous hearts. Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager and Pretty Girl Bonita's newest friend!

Tristan
!!
|
December, 2020: I look at this boy's face and in all candor, don't even know where to start... Tristan was reportedly a stray who was brought to a shelter by an individual claiming to have found him on the streets. He was somebody’s Doberman… He's guesstimated to be around 5 or 6 years old by his vet, and that being the case, one has to wonder just where he's been for the past several months(?)... and the reason is because Tristan is a very sick baby. Doberman Pinscher Rescue's was alerted and their volunteer picked up sweet Tristan from the shelter, but because of the holiday, was unable to get him into the vet for examination. Shortly after his rescue from the shelter, the volunteer discovered Tris was unable to urinate and rushed him into the emergency veterinarian, where a catheter was required to drain his bladder. An ultrasound revealed a HUGE tumor on his prostate... the size of an orange. At this point, his condition is guarded, as we don't know if this tumor is a malignancy... and if it is, metastases are probably likely. This dear baby did not grow this tumor overnight. Someone, somewhere, owned Tristan and simply didn't care about him, and now, this could very well be his death sentence. UPDATE: First hurdle overcome!! Tristan does NOT have metastases-lungs and other organs are clear!! Surgery is planned and will proceed as soon as specialists can be arranged. As I write this, I had to take a few deep breaths. I have a thing for blues; their sweetness, their beautiful color and their amazing exuberance and joy. Tristan is so beautiful, and it literally hurts to look at his picture. You know Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California has rescued countless Dobermans and given them love, health, joy and forever homes. I don't know if this dear boy will make it, but we can thank these Rescue Angels for giving him love, a soft place to land and diagnostics to hopefully heal Tristan. At least Tristan knows he is truly loved and will get the care he needs. Please, please help DPR and SND in this effort by sending a donation, any amount will help and goes 100% to his satisfy his bills which are climbing steadily to over $10K. Please begin helping Tristan by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Sending money to a friend option in PayPal gives more (it saves the fees too)! USPS can take care of your mail-in gift for Tristan!! NOTE: SECRET SANTA WILL MATCH YOUR DONATION DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR!! Just take a look at his face here https://www.doberman911.org and send dear Tristan some hope and good vibes! Thank you. Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager. |
