We are an all-volunteer organization of people with a common goal of helping Senior and special needs Doberman Pinschers. That need may be financial for Doberman Rescue Groups, or it may be only information and/or moral support for the owner of a Doberman with a serious illness or injury. We will also aid Rescue Groups in rehoming and fostering senior Dobermans they may place under their care. The financial aid we provide may come from donations, occasional online auctions or SND Store sales. Every precaution is taken to assure that the need is real. SND maintains an "every penny" rule which guarantees that 100% of donations to the care of Dobermans is used ONLY for that purpose. Administrative costs are covered with proceeds from our online store, by designated donations and by occasional auctions specifically for that purpose.

HELP ME

Give me the ugly dog with one eye, three legs,
and help me show that they're more than just a form and a face.
Give me the scarred dog, burned and slashed with hate,
and help me lead it away from that terrible fate.
Give me the deaf and blind dog, and help me show it the way
in the silence and dark of each of their days.
Give me the shutdown dog, depressed of mind,
and help me cherish their soul until their fears unwind.
Give me the old dog, bent and broken with age,
and help me fill their last days with an unending grace.
Give me the ugly dog, I'll leave the pretty one for you,
and help me show them they're worthy of love and joy, too.

Meet The SNDobes Helped With General Funds!!

These Special Needs Dobermans were helped with one-time grants from our most important fund, the General Fund.  This fund is used to help Dobermans fortunate enough to find themselves in Rescue Groups.  Assistance is only provided for extraordinary expenses.  These grants can be augmented by your generous contributions to any of these precious Dobes!! Private owners will be provided the necessary information to help them fundraise for their own Dobes as well as being given information to reduce their costs for medications and ways to seek additional information about Doberman illnesses.

Rogue !!

December, 2022: At only two years old, beautiful, (and sadly, confused) Rogue was sitting in a noisy animal shelter. During her intake evaluation, it was clear to the shelter staff that Rogue is handicapped in her hind quarters. Her back legs move awkwardly, therefore, her stride is impaired, rendering her unsteady on her feet. The shelter staff knew that Rogue had a very poor chance of being adopted into a home. They also knew her needs would be more than the shelter could monetarily provide. This reality led the shelter staff to notify the Rescue Warriors of Doberman Pinscher Rescue located in Fillmore, California asking if DPR could take Rogue into their rescue to provide what the shelter was unable to. The DPR Angels stepped right up for Rogue. (During her initial vet visit it was discovered Rogue actually has several medical issues.) Regarding her hind quarters, X-rays were done and it was determined that her handicap was due to an old injury which had, unfortunately, improperly healed. However, the vet doesn’t think Rogue is in pain, so nothing further was recommended at this time regarding that issue. Rogue was also found to be positive (affected) for Von Willebrand’s Syndrome (which is a bleeding disorder caused by low levels of clotting proteins in the blood). And sure enough, during her spay surgery, Rogue had extensive bleeding which resulted in plasma with clotting factors being infused! Talk about an additional expense!! The added costs of several x-ray views and the very expensive plasma transfusions have led DPR to our SND family for assistance with the vet expenses. At any given time DPR has multiple medical cases they fund so any help we can provide will be greatly appreciated. Please remember, NO amount donated is ever too small! Your tax deductible gift can be delivered to SND by USPS or PayPal by using the links here.  Rescues need donations to stay solvent, and here’s a chance to show your support for DPR and their dedication to our beloved breed! Trust me, a donation of any amount is greatly appreciated and will be matched by Secret Santa until 12/31/2022! The rescues, the Dobermans and we at SND are forever grateful for your continued support!  Just need a little more inspiration?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  Rogue, DPR Angels and SND THANK YOU!  Beth McCahren, Rogue's SND Case Manager.

Shasta !!

December, 2022:   It's a mystery as to how something as youthful and lovely could be wandering the mean streets alone and end up impounded with no one looking for her.  Feast your eyes on Shasta, now safe and happy with Ardis and Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California.  Shasta was found wandering the streets, but seems to be well nourished and in fairly good spirits and shape.  Shasta was brought to DPR's veterinarians for spay and it was found that she has a very low von Wiilebrand’s factor.   Allowing a pup to wander at any time is bad enough but with vonWillebrand's it is inviting disaster because she could bleed out after an accident or dog fight.  It's seriously difficult to fathom just how anyone could let an adorable puppy be abandoned like this.  BUT the good news is that Shasta has been successfully spayed with proper precautions of plasma and clotting factor and she is recovering very nicely and will be ready for an adoring adopter in short order.  DPR does this - literally - all the time,  however, it takes the support of many generous supporters and the support of Special Needs Dobermans to keep them operating and solvent.   Please, help DPR continue to bring happiness and beauty to the thousands of Dobermans they save by sending your donation to SND today.  AND, don't forget, your donation will be matched by Secret Santa, so it's double the fun, double the Dobes helped!   Let's make this easy, the links to donate via USPS or PayPal are right here.  THANK YOU!!  Leslie Michell-Young, Shasta’s SND Case Manager.

Falco !!

December, 2022:  Even during the festive times of the season, many don't realize that the world continues to be an indifferent -and sometimes-a very cruel place. Today, we find ourselves reflecting on the consequences of greed and ignorance with back yard breeders. I present to you dear baby Falco, the product of an inexperienced (and probably frightened) mother Dobe and her clueless owner. Falco's poor mother had a litter of 10 pups, one of which was killed when mum bit him and his brother (Falco) in the head. Puppy Falco has managed to survive and has been discharged from the emergency vet to be cared for by one of the vet techs at the clinic. Anthony and his army at High Desert Doberman Rescue are now Falco's hero's and will care for Falco after he is stabilized by his friend from the clinic. Because Falco is only somewhere between 3 and 5 weeks old, he, of course, requires diligent and around the clock monitoring to assure he gets the medical attention he needs.  Once he's out of the woods, Anthony and his angels will make all good things happen for this adorable baby.   So far, we know Falco is doing well - playing, eating and active. Happy news indeed for all of us.  Now, here comes the reality check.   Emergency care is extremely expensive AND with the addition of specialized aftercare by a trained CVT is going to result in a HUGE bill... but take a look at this beautiful baby.  Falco will probably require neurological evaluation to make sure he's on the path to the best future possible, and we all know specialized veterinarians are expensive, too.  HDDR has come to us at Special Needs Dobermans for help fundraising for precious Falco.  You may begin now by sending your donations just click on the USPS link or PayPal on the right, right here for you to use.  And remember with Secret Santa, your gift will be matched!  Please, send a donation to Special Needs Dobermans to help this gorgeous baby boy.  Want to imagine sweet puppy breath by looking at a sweet face?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  HDDR, Anthony, Falco and I thank you. Leslie Michell-Young, Falco's SND Case Manager,  I love Dobe puppies!!

Imogen !!

December, 2022:   This little lovely is four year old Imogen.  She was discovered in a San Francisco shelter by the ever vigilant rescue warriors of Bella and Sunshine Rescue located in Ontario California.  When B&SR submitted a request to pull her, the shelter staff shared that this very sweet girl had already been spayed, she has a visible head tilt and possible vestibular (balance) issues (OK, that can be dealt with).  When Imogen settled in with her foster family, it was quickly noted what the animal shelter did not share - that Imogen had been treated for hematuria (bloody urine) and very frequent and painful urination with the strong antibiotic Clavamox for a full week without improvement! Her foster mom called B&SR to inform them that poor Imogene was urinating every TEN minutes and was squatting to go half of the time in-between with no results! Not only that, but the urine was the color of FRUIT PUNCH!  The shelter actually spayed Imogen with an acute infection which in itself is a big fat NO, but they didn’t even try to diagnose the actual urinary problem!  Now we did have an emergency!!  Imogen immediately had an appointment with urgent care.  A urine sample was obtained directly from the bladder for precision for diagnostics.  At that time, a mass half of the size of Imogen’s bladder was discovered!   An ultrasound was authorized for clarity and it is definitely a mass.  Also, the urine sample had ‘visible cells’ which is not a good sign.  Specimens have been sent out for pathology for both cancer cells and a UTI (fingers crossed we’re dealing with an infection only).  Imogen has been suffering for who knows how long, but B&SR are determined to get a proper diagnosis and treat accordingly.  B&SR presently has several fosters under medical treatment and this new and unexpected issue is hitting their pocketbook very hard.  This dedicated rescue has come to our SND family requesting any assistance we can possibly provide to help them navigate the mounting medical bills.  NO amount donated is ever too small and is always greatly appreciated!  Donating is easy, the tabs to donate via USPS or PayPal are right here.  (If using PayPal and if possible, please click on the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ tabs to keep your gift ‘fee free’ when possible).  We understand this is a rough time of year for most of us, and we at SND Nation, as well as the Dobes and rescues, truly appreciate your caring and continued generosity! Thank you SO much!!  Beth McCahren, Imogen's SND Case Manager.

Sully !!

December, 2022:   It's a very busy week here at Special Needs Dobermans, and sadly, we have yet another very sick DobeBoy who needs your help.  Dear Sully found himself admitted to an emergency hospital in California with very serious liver concerns.  He's been stabilized, but needs further evaluation, as he may have a liver shunt or hepatic encephalitis.  High Desert Doberman Rescue from New Mexico spoke for Sully, got him moved from CA and they have a plan in place which includes liver function tests and an abdominal ultrasound. Some of these conditions may be treatable (depending on the specific anatomy of the liver and source of the encephalitis (bacterial or viral), and these issues may become worse if not diagnosed quickly - in fact, life threatening.  Sully's work up and tests are now scheduled and they are very, very expensive.  This small rescue has been hit very hard this holiday season with several very sick pups (Mr. Falco for one - see above), and they need the help of every Doberman lover on the planet.  Please help support the HDDR Rescue Angels now by sending a contribution to Special Needs Dobermans - we've partnered with HDDR to help raise funds to try to save this beautiful boy's life.  Just click on the PayPal link on the right or let the USPS bring your support.  Thank you from Sully, HDDR, SND, and myself, Leslie Michell-Young, Sully's SND Case Manager.   Make the holidays happy for Sully!

Fella !!

December, 2022:  Have you ever fallen in love with a dog just by looking at a photo?? That’s how I feel about one of our newest SND Doberdudes who was named ‘Fella’ (because he is such a brave and handsome fella!).  Fella is young, approximately 2 – 3 years old.  He was picked up as a stray in Stockton, California with a Massive, Flapping, GAPING wound on his front left side near his armpit/ribs.  To make matters worse, this was an old injury and there was extensive necrotic tissue that was actually hanging off of him in pieces!  Necrotic tissue is unable to heal and can cause deadly infection, therefore, with a wound this size, surgical intervention was required ASAP.  The shelter veterinarian anesthetized Fella, allowing the necrotic tissue to be removed and the wound cleansed and sutured.  When Fella was stable, he was discharged into the loving care of the Rescue Warriors of Bella and Sunshine Rescue, located in Ontario CA (as an aside, he loved his plane ride there!).  All seemed well until 5 days later when the sutures came apart due to further necrosis of tissue.  Again, emergent surgery was required to debride the dead tissue and re-suture the huge wound as much as possible (due to the loss of additional tissue).  Fella is on antibiotic therapy and will require frequent follow up visits with his veterinarian to monitor the healing (or not healing) of his wound.  Even though Fella has definitely been in pain from both the wound itself and the surgeries, the B&SR Rescue Angels report  ‘he is the sweetest and happiest boy ever’!!   Needless to say, the cost of Fella’s care is rising, and B&SR has asked for SND’s assistance with the costs.  In this season of giving, if possible, please consider a doonation in support of B&SR and sweet Fella.  And remember with Secret Santa, your gift will be matched!!  Your donation can be made by PayPal or USPS. (If using PayPal, and if possible, please click on the ‘friends and family’ tab as well as the ‘send money’ tab to keep your donation ‘fee free’).  We at SND, as well as our many dedicated rescues, appreciate your support more than we can say. It’s because of your gifts that so many of our majestic Dobermans are able to be saved!  Want to fall in love with a handsome Fella?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org, Thank you ever so much!!  Beth McCahren, SND Case Manager.

Charlie !!

December, 2022:  Most of us know (or have known) the joys of sharing our lives with a Senior Doberman.   Wonderful Charlie is a transplant, originally sheltered at Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California, after being surrendered with his brother Rocky by an older couple that could no longer care for them.   Charlie and Rocky were doing fine until Charlie decided he needed to be Top Sarge at the Ranch and had to be kenneled instead of free-roaming on the Ranch with his pal Rocky.  Luckily for the Boyz, Bella and Sunshine Rescue (also located in southern CA) had a foster family who would take both Dudes for the rest of their retirement years.  They were transferred to B&SR’s care and began their new life happy life, together again.  The foster home also had a DobeGirl resident that took issue with Charlie's presence and decided to start WWIII.  Poor foster mum wound up having surgery to debride the bite she received from her DobeGirl while trying to referee the conflict.   Poor, dear Charlie developed a very nasty infection from a bite to his rear leg which needed surgical intervention to clean out necrotic tissue placement of a drain in his injured, badly swollen leg. Turns out Charlie had an old injury that was encysted with infectious cells and when ruptured by the new bite, infection spread into surrounding tissue causing the amount of swelling seen in the whole leg.  Of course, B&SR immediately took on the task of getting Charlie's nasty injury addressed.  He went straight to the emergency veterinarian and his bills are now climbing as you might expect at an emergency clinic.   Poor dear gentleman!  Won’t you help Charlie and Bella & Sunshine Rescue take care of his injury by sending a donation?   You can do so here where your contribution, 100%!  Your donation will not only get dear Charlie the help he needs, but if you say " Make Santa Pay" when you contribute, your donation will be matched $for $!  Come on, Senior lovers, gather your cash and send your donation to help this beautiful gent get well - and Make Santa Pay!   Just click on the USPS link or PayPal on the right and send some love now!  Want another look to make Charlie your Darling?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org,   Thank you!! Gunnar !!

December, 2022:   A very sad hello and goodbye to a Dobe Gent named Gunnar.  Gunnar was guessed to be between 5 and 7 years old and had been a ward of Dog Mountain Rescue in California while awaiting a forever family.  Gunnar came to DMR from a shelter in Bakersfield.   As is the case with many Shelter-Saves, not much information came with him.  He hadn't been with DMR very long but it seems he had been de-barked in his prior life.  He was in good shape until recently  when he wasn't eating as much as usual so tempting tidbits were offered to try to perk up his appetite.  He ate some, but not much.  By the 17th in the morning, he seemed a little wobbly on his hind quarters so DMR took him in to their vet to be seen ASAP.   He was admitted to the clinic for overnight observation in preparation for an ultrasound exam in the morning.  In the morning he was worse and very disoriented and his vet surmised he'd had a stroke.  The recommendation was to release him and he was, lovingly.  Please join us in helping to pay for DMR's valiant efforts for Gunnar.  He is in peace and suffers no more.  You may add you help by clicking on the PayPal button to the right reach out through the USPS.   Ann  at DMR and all of us at SND THANK YOU for your support.  SND Case Management Team, Speakers for Gunnar.  Rest is Peace Sweet Prince.

Bernard !!

December, 2022:   Poor Bernard is probably 4 or 5 years old and came into a shelter as a stray.  Being very handsome you might wonder why someone dumped him… well that became apparent very quickly.  In the shelter his condition alternated between constipation and bloody diarrhea.  Of course weight loss figured in also--10 pounds in just a few days.  Luckily the Bella and Sunshine Rescue Angels in California had room for him.  When they picked him up from the shelter his condition was both sad and alarming.  In addition to the constipation and diarrhea he was lethargic.  He was limping and stiff.  His testicles and hind legs were swollen (Guys, imagine as bad as you can and double the size… we are talking grapefruit here…).  Lots of swelling.   Even his belly was swollen and he was in a tremendous amount of pain.  The shelter was giving him gabapentin but he definitely needed more than that AND out of there!  Bless B&SR for getting him out of the shelter and to a vet ASAP.  As I type this he is getting bloodwork done and his clotting factor checked.  If his clotting is fine he will lose the grapefruit and any infection they find will be drained, cleaned, dealt with!  Today!  I'm sure B&SR will let us know what is found, if anything definite.  Later news from the vets isn't encouraging but be assured that his future is paramount.  Please consider joining B&SR and SND in ending the pain and swelling for this handsome Dober-dude.  You may begin helping him by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, hopefully you can use the gift option. Your help will also get directly and entirely to him through the USPS.   This poor boy did not ask for this but together we can get rid of it and get him a home!  As always and forever I thank the great Doberman community for caring, none of this could happen without you!   Thank you!! Carol Belknap, Bernard's SND Case Manager.

Atlas !!

November, 2022:  The mythical Atlas was the mightiest god of Greek legend. Handsome, strong, a majestic ruler of the universe. We learn of these myths as schoolkids, little knowing of the devotion the ancient societies that created them. Yet today, Atlas is amongst us once again in the form of a magnificent, youthful blue DobeKid in California, and he personifies his namesake in many of his attributes. Atlas was found in a small California shelter with a badly fractured foreleg, and it's unknown just where he came from – but it's apparent he was on his own for some time. He's terribly skinny and he's covered with scrapes and cuts from battling the streets... but our Atlas is mighty and as soon as Doberman Pinscher Rescue and Ardis's Angels (yes, there are angels in mythology) found him, they knew this gorgeous blue boy was something special. Atlas's leg was x-rayed by the shelter and what they saw was not one but TWO compound fractures of the forearm (see inset below)!  He was splinted and luckily spotted by a kind volunteer who informed DPR with no time to spare before he got a blue cocktail for the Thanksgiving holiday.  But as in myth, Atlas was sprung by DPR at the last minute... something we all can be thankful for!  We now know that this mighty Atlas will need will need amputation of his foreleg.  Alignment of his radius and ulna would make success of surgical correction of this nasty fracture chancy at best – not to mention painful and very expensive and ending in amputation anyway.  However, as you already know DPR will do everything to get Atlas the help he needs so he can continue to rule the universe.  You also know that rescues cannot do this without serious financial help, that's where you and Special Needs Dobermans come into the picture. We exist to help rescues like DPR who take on cases that are serious and expensive so they can continue their amazing work helping Dobermans heal and live long and happy lives.  Please begin helping Atlas by sending your donations now...  Sending your support is easy - just click on the USPS link or PayPal on the right and they'll be right here for you to use.   We'll help Atlas return to ruling the universe and gracing all our lives with his beauty and strength. Here's a look at Blue Atlas while we work towards taking away his reason for being blue - just click right here https://www.doberman911.org,   Thank You!!!! Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager. Lover of Atlas and mythology, too!

Milo !!

UPDATE - November 16, 2022Good news for Milo!  Since June Milo has awaited the fate of his deformed limb as he was being observed to determine whether amputation of the leg was better than dragging this weight along.  Because that foot doesn't even reach the ground, it wasn't even useful as a pivot point.  There didn't seem to be any pain associated with the deformity so he bided his time while the surgery schedule opened up.  That time is now and Milo will be rid of his albatross and certainly be more agile and comfortable.  Orthopedic surgery is never inexpensive and HDDR will stretch their budget to the max and with SND's (your) help, Milo will be a comfortable Senior Gent!!  He'll even have a Senior page all his own soon!!  Please support Milo and THANK YOU!!
June, 2022
:  To begin with, be forewarned.  This dear, beautiful Doberman - Milo - has clearly seen some very rotten stuff of what humanity can dish out.  Sometime about 6 or 7 years ago, Milo was born to a breeder in the southwest.  He found his home shortly thereafter... but now his story becomes convoluted and a bit confusing.  Milo was surrendered to a shelter for no given reason and the shelter thereupon scanned Milo for a chip - which revealed his original owner to be his breeder, who is now fostering him.  When he was surrendered, the shelter immediately saw that he's missing part of his left rear leg, which has healed over on the surface (see inset below).  The shelter sent Milo to their veterinarian where x-rays were taken to reveal a deteriorating, "moth eaten" appearance to the bone.  It is unknown how the injury occurred, but it is clearly painful.  Milo also has some type of ocular infection and has been put on antibiotics.  This poor, sweet baby has been through the mill.  We are so very grateful that Milo is now in the hands of High Desert Doberman Rescue Angels, and they - along with his loving foster - will move the universe to help Milo regain his health.  Milo, through all this has remained the easy going, affectionate and affable Doberman gentleman who wants only to be at his foster's side as he recovers from all the painful indignities he's endured.  HDDR has a longtime relationship with Special Needs Dobermans and together, we will get Milo well and pain free.  He is scheduled to see two specialists for in depth evaluation and HDDR and SND, with your help, will see him through this to put all the pain and heartache behind him.  Whatever the evaluations reveal, Milo needs YOUR support and donations to his case at SND, and his case will be ongoing until resolved. This delightful, sweet and handsome boy clearly has much better days ahead of him, and he needs all the donations we can muster.  Be part of his recovery and help him live the rest of his life pain free and happy, won't you?  Please begin now - just use USPS or the PayPal button on the right!  Here's a shot of handsome Milo, the ever-patient patient... just click right here:   https://www.doberman911.org.   THANK YOU! Lobo !!

November, 2022:   Say hello to the newest member of our SND family.  He’s an eight month old puppy named Lobo.   While we know very little about this delightful fellow, allow me to tell you what we do know:  Lobo somehow became a traveling companion for a trucker.  We don’t know from whence Mr. Trucker obtained Lobo (a stray?), but he sure didn’t know what he was getting into with a Doberman puppy!!  When he realized just how active, curious and rambunctious a Dobe puppy is, he took Lobo to a shelter to be rehomed.  The shelter vet did Lobo’s initial examination and provided the needed inoculations.  Upon Lobo’s assessment it was observed that Lobo was a cryptorchid (one or both of the testes failed to descend into the scrotum).  This may not sound like a big deal, however, if not corrected, serious complications may arise.  These include torsion of the testes (twisting of the testes causing loss of blood flow and severe, unbearable pain resulting in emergency surgery).  Also, the risk of testicular cancer is elevated.  It’s clear to see that no one wants to predispose Lobo to the these risks.  And naturally, the neutering of a cryptorchid dog is more costly because of the possibility or actuality of abdominal exploration, which wouldn’t be known until Lobo is actually opened up.  His first surgery resulted in failure to locate the testes!  The heroes who so kindly stepped up to take Lobo into their care belong to High Desert Doberman Rescue located in Belen, New Mexico.   Due to the significant increased cost of Lobo’s second attempt at neuter which included ultrasound, HDDR Angels have come to our SND family for any assistance we can offer.  While knowing that at this time most everyone is in a monetary crunch, that surely includes the many dedicated rescues.  We are asking that if you are able, please donate ANY amount towards sweet Lobo’s surgery, it would be greatly appreciated.   Remember that NO amount is ever too small.  A costly medical issue could collapse any rescue.  And it’s so easy to donate. Just click on the donate tabs and it will direct you to your choice of USPS or PayPal (if able to use PayPal, please click on the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ tabs to keep your gift fee free!). The Dobes, the rescues and we at SND are greatly appreciative of your consistent support!  THANK YOU!!  Beth McCahren, SND Case Manager.

Ptolemy !!

November, 2022:   Today, at Special Needs Dobermans, we bring you a stunning, noble young gentleman who found himself wandering the cruel streets with a fractured hip. Ardis and her army of Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore CA. has named this gorgeous boy Ptolemy after the great scientist, mathematician and astronomer.  It's suspected this charming and gorgeous boy is no more than 2 years old and was hit by a car that didn't stop to render him aid.  However, fortune smiled on Ptolemy when the shelter he was brought to contacted DPR and Ardis' Army who promptly swept him up into their loving arms and immediately got him to their veterinarians.   Ptolemy is going to need FHO surgery, which is an expensive procedure that repairs the fractured head of the femur to realign with the hip socket. It's considered major surgery and its price tag is major as well.  Our boy is a remarkably well adjusted happy youngster and is even walking (with some difficulty) and is not showing the distress one would think a pup in his situation would.  Our plan is to get Ptolemy the FHO surgery he needs so he can continue on with his wonderful, young life in a new home where he will be treasured... but first, we at Special Needs Dobermans need to raise funds to help finance his expensive surgery.  DPR has had a number of very costly veterinary cases as of late and needs YOUR help.  Please help this amazing rescue help yet another Doberman live the wonderful life he deserves by sending a contribution to SND - 100% of it will serve Ptolemy!  You can start now by clicking on the PayPal button to the right or sending some love in the mail - and Thank You!  And now gaze at the eye candy on the left and on the home page too - just click right here https://www.doberman911.org,!  Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager - Purveyor of the best puppy porn!

Draco !!

November, 2022:  Adorable, baby Draco (The Dragon) is only three months old and has already experienced severe trauma.   Poor puppy was left unattended and was hit by a car right in front of his house.  He was taken to a veterinarian, but after finding out that surgery was recommended, his (former) family relinquished him as they did not have the means to pay for any type of treatment.   Baby Draco has significant trauma to his left rear leg.  I mean significant as in a compound fracture (bone protruding through the skin) of his femur (thigh bone, the longest and strongest bone).   It’s not only fractured but is grossly misaligned as well. (A look at his xrays will make you cringe for sure!)  And as if that’s not enough, he also has a fractured tibia (the longest of the two shin bones).  Now, one might think you xray the leg and then cast or plate it, but it’s so much more than that.  A complete head to toe evaluation needs to be done:  check vital signs, rule out shock due to blood loss and/or pain, pain control, xrays to rule out internal bleeding, and xrays to evaluate fractured bones, full body hands on examination to check for dislocations.  Antibiotics need to be administered via an IV site as well as fluids.  Much time and testing already just to stabilize Draco.  Then comes surgery.   Hopefully the tibia can heal with casting alone. However, the femur will definitely need plated and then the plate screwed into place for anchorage. A compound fracture of a femur is a delicate surgery and has a high risk of infection, tissue damage and healing complications.   Puppy Draco will have to endure several weeks of rest to heal, (providing the leg does heal and doesn’t need to be amputated due to too much damage of bone and ligaments).  It goes without saying that the treatment already provided and the impending surgical repair is going to be quite costly.  The Rescue Angels of Hamlet's House & Pet Rescue, an all breed rescue located in Hesperia, California, was notified about Draco and his condition. Knowing his great chance of being euthanized if put into a typical shelter, they immediately claimed him as their own and vowed to provide whatever it is that he needs to become a healthy, mobile puppy again.  HHPR has graciously taken in one of our own beloved breed, and have come to our SND family with hopes that we can assist them.  HHPR is a new rescue to us, and we would like to show them our gratitude in rescuing Draco.  Times are tough for everyone, all rescues included.  That being said, if possible, are you able to make a donation of ANY amount towards puppy Draco’s care?  NO gift is ever too small and would be most appreciated by HHPR as well as SND, not to mention our Littlest Dragon!  Donating is quite easy - just click on the USPS link or PayPal on the right and they'll be right here for you to use.  Thank you ever so much for all you do to help the rescues dedicated to our beloved Doberman breed!  Need a smile from Sir Draco to brighten your day?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org,  Thank You! Clancy !!

November, 2022:   This is 7 year old Clancy--and what a good old boy he is!  He came into a central California animal shelter labeled physically impaired and they began by calling him Clumsy. Poor guy!  He couldn't help it!  He was a "stray intake" at the shelter.  His shelter notes also indicate he is Seized/Custody which typically means he wandered away from "home" and the shelter people knew where it was and how highly unsatisfactory it was--he didn't need to go back!  No one wanted him anyway… Clancy quickly became a shelter favorite.   He's a really sweet guy who loves people and any attention he can get.  He's easy on a leash; great with strangers and handling.   Pretty perfect, right?  Ok, so what's the problem you ask?   He's clumsy because he's unsteady on his feet, favoring a rear leg.  This is where Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Fillmore, California was called in, and, well, you know Ardis' Army couldn't turn him away.   DPR wrapped him in love and got him to their vet for a good going over.  Clancy has an old injury.  He needs an FHO, a femoral head osteotomy.  With this surgery he should heal easily and regain good mobility in weeks.  Becoming pain free for the first time in how long?  Years maybe?  While the FHO will do the trick for Clancy, it isn't free.  Or even cheap--but very necessary.   Please consider joining DPR and SND in fixing Clancy up!  He could have happy, comfy years with the right family to spoil him!   You may begin helping Clancy by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, using the gift option or by dropping your help in the mail--he'll appreciate it all--and every penny will go directly to him. As always, I cannot thank you enough for your continued support of our SNDobies!! Thank You! Carol Belknap, Clancy's SND Case Manager.

Samuel !!

November, 2022:   For all the worms we kill, there are always more waiting…. Meet 2 year old Samuel.  Yet another Southern stray.  He weighed in way too light for his heartworm treatment, a super skinny boy, but his loving foster-Mom has already put 20 pounds on him and he's good to go!  Amazing what food and kindness will do...  Let the killing begin!  Of course it's Bluegrass Doberman Rescue and his Foster-Mom is one of the marvelous Foster-Angels Melissa always seems to find.  Some good food and good love--and another failed foster who will probably become his Dober-mom eventually… funny how these guys get under our skin and into our hearts!  He came in as a hyper puppy but has already settled down - which is a good thing with his treatment ready to begin.  It's so hard for a happy little boy to be quiet, especially when he has a Dobie-sister who loves to play with him.  He really loves walks around the neighborhood and playing fetch but will be perfectly happy staying insi de with a good bone during his treatment.  Melissa says he is the all-around perfect red boy!   Gotta love 'em, don't you? While the bill for heartworm treatment keeps going up, Melissa has done everything she can to keep the cost down and if you knew her you'd know how determined she can be! It is still a large and on-going expense for every Doberman Rescue and some areas of the country get hit pretty hard with some clinics charging $3K and more.  Please consider joining BDR and SND, once again, in the worm war.  You may begin helping sweet Sammy by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, hopefully you can use the gift option.   Or you can drop your love in the mail, it will all go to him!   Melissa and I most sincerely appreciate all the on-going support of this Doberman community in this fight.  And it will be a fight to the bitter end! Again--Thank You!!! Carol Belknap, Samuel's SND Case Manager and Worm Warrior with a vengeance!!

Autumn !!

UPDATE - November 13, 2022Bad news/Good news:   the bad is Autumn is not healing as hoped :(.  Good news, she will be undergoing ortho surgery and can begin to heal properly so she can get on with her wonderful life.  You know what that means - costly surgery.  So please keep Miss Autumn on your plate and send her some good vibes too.  Thank you!
November, 2022
:  Just take a look at that face!! Here we have a delightful young Doberlady who is now under the loving care of Doberman Rescue of Nevada RescueAngels.  Autumn is a 2 year old youngster who was loved by a young
owner.  Sadly, Autumn suddenly bolted away from her owner and found herself hit by a car, resulting in a fracture of both her radius and ulna.  Her owner immediately took the youngster to the vet, where the owner learned that fixing Autumn's leg would be more than they could afford.  Luckily, Autumn's young owner did the right thing - rather than running to the shelter, they contacted the Getters of DRNV to surrender her to their loving care, knowing Autumn would get the care she needed to heal completely.  This is something we can all be grateful for.   Autumn's fracture will require a number of periodic splint changes, and because the radius is not perfectly in line she may require surgery to correct the alignment eventually.  However, our girl remains delightful, happy and downright exuberant!  It is reported that Autumn is a beacon of joy and Doberman bliss, even with the forced confinement her injury dictates.  As you know, Doberman Rescue of Nevada is one of the most loving, diligent and hardworking Dobe Rescues in the country. They have persevered for decades, taking on the sick, injured and lost Dobermans no one else would.  They do this as a nonprofit, and it is very important life saving work.  DRNV has come to SND for some financial help to raise funds to help Autumn recover from this nasty fracture, and we all need to help them - not only for Autumn, but for all the future Dobermans in they will care for if they remain solvent.   Please begin now with PayPal on the right or with
USPS.   So, here's some beautiful adolescent puppy porn to feast your eyes on as you donate to SND to help Autumn... and imagine how beautiful she'll become once she's rid on that cast!  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org,  Thank You! Cherry !!

November, 2022:  Adorable Cherry is only five months old, but somehow, this innocent puppy ended up in an animal shelter.  Upon shelter intake, it was obvious Cherry would be a medical case.  She was underweight with her ribs and hip bones protruding, she walks hunched over and gingerly, she holds her head and neck oddly, and seems to have a ‘lump’ on the right side of her neck.  A shelter liaison with Doberman Pinscher Rescue located in Fillmore, California alerted the DPR Rescue Warriors immediately about Cherry and her condition.  They had sent DPR a little video showing Cherry streaking across the yard playing with another inmate there.  Her behavior then gave DPR the hope that there wasn't anything good food and vet care could fix.  So, upon completion of Cherry’s stray hold, DPR was right there to provide impending care.  Cherry was first taken to DPR’s veterinarian for her initial assessment, xrays and a diagnosis. The xrays were very abnormal to the point that this vet had never seen anything like it; therefore, no diagnosis could be made.  DPR was advised to take Cherry to an orthopedic surgeon.  So off Cherry went to her next appointment, however, these particular ortho surgeons don’t handle spinal/neuro cases.  They did however take a look at the xrays.   Once again, the surgeons had never seen xrays like Cherry’s so… no diagnosis.  It was now recommended to follow up with a surgeon who specializes in spinal cases, so that is the next step in the efforts to provide Cherry with whatever care is appropriate for her. Her quality of life is pretty good at this time, but as she grows, (and we know Dobe puppies grow quickly), how will her deformed spine affect her and is there a surgery/treatment available to insure the best possible life?  At this point no one has even been able to discern if the spinal abnormalities are trauma related or birth defects.   DPR will not turn away a Dobe based on medical needs!  And as you can imagine, Cherry’s vet costs are adding up.  This is why our rescue friends at DPR have come to our SND family for assistance in finding a diagnosis and therefore, the appropriate treatment.  Please remember that NO donation is ever too small!  We know that finances are tight everywhere, however, the accumulation of small gifts can add up an impressive amount.  Rest assured every penny marked for Cherry will go to her alone.  Donating is quite easy.  Just click on the link of your choice, either USPS or PayPal, to become a part of Cherry’s outcome.  May I add the Dobes, Rescue Warriors of DPR and we at SND greatly appreciate your continued support. Your provisions allow the rescues to keep their doors open to the endless Dobermans in need.  We are forever very grateful!  Want to see a sweet Girlie in the prime of her life?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org,  Let's step up and try to make her life a bowl of CHERRIES!! Uncle Bruce !!

UPDATE - November 7, 2022: DCM has claimed another Doberman and left all who knew him devastated.  That's right, it never gets easier.  After more than 3 years of being lucky enough to have been rescued and loved by his Angels at HDDR, Uncle Bruce lost his battle against this monster.  Every effort was made to save him but in the end, this sweet gentleman succumbed.  He slept in his Dad's arms, peacefully and suffered no more.  All the pain is gone from him and what's left behind is many tears and the very costly aftermath from the attempts made on his behalf.  Sleep sweetly dear Prince, you were and will always be loved.  Please help us help his Angels recover some the expense so they can be there for the next Doberman.  Thank you.
March, 2021
:  Look at this handsome Dober-dude! He's at least 10 years old and sure doesn't look it! Uncle Bruce is a most deserving forever foster dog--and not only because his Dad was killed in action fighting for our country--but because of how he has gotten on with life after losing his companion-person-Dad.   While he is being treated for anaplasmosis and erlichia, he is busy being a Spokes-Dobe for High Desert Doberman Rescue! They are honored to be his designated advocates and cannot say enough good about this old dude.  He is excellent at puppy-watch duty and when he gets time off from that, he represents HDDR at any and all public functions.   He is the perfect Senior Dobe!!  Fortunately the whole High Desert pack loves him too as they alerted Anthony of a problem one stormy, windy night… (well, it was 4:30 am, still night in my book).  It seems the storm and wind had brought down a plethora of pecans from their trees earlier that day and for some reason Uncle Bruce decided to eat some (well, more than just some)… and the problems started.  So everyone went and told Anthony, who checked Uncle Bruce and found him in distress.   His belly was taut and he was posturing painfully, poor boy.   A quick dose of simethicone and a bumpy ride to the ER for emergency surgery. It's not a cheap surgery but Brucie is very worth the time and money.  At least HDDR and SND think so--and we hope you will too.  He was hospitalized and he may have dodged that surgery bullet after an all night vigil of fluid therapy - we are hopeful that he is beyond danger now.  Intensive care and/or surgery is NOT inexpensive as we all know, expecially at the emergency clinic.  Please consider helping this Dober-gent get back to his good life at Rancho Doberado!!   You may begin helping Uncle Bruce by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. The gift options even save the fees! USPS works too and no help is too little to matter!!!  Uncle Bruce is a Senior Gent and already has his own Senior Page another great pic of this DUDE - just visit him here https://doberman911.org/seniors/cases/nm_unclebruce.html and send him some Sponsorship love too if you want!   As always, we at SND thank you most sincerely for your continued support of our SNDobies!!!!   Thank you!!  Carol Belknap, Uncle Bruce's SND Case Manager.

Blake !!

November, 2022:   Blake is another stray from down south, which means heartworm, which means Melissa and me and our faithful Worm Warriors and, YOU. (We really should have a logo, don't you think? Who wants to get creative?)  This blue boy is 3 or 4 years old and was found in horrible shape; very skinny with a terrible skin condition.  Who knows how long he's been in bad shape but however long that is his owners (and I use the term sarcastically) did not respond to the finder's attempts to locate them.  This very kind person then contacted Bluegrass Doberman Rescue, the very best thing possible for this little boy!  Because, of course, BDR's Rescue Angels couldn't turn this boy away!  Blake's foster mom is new to the rescue but has been wonderful with him.  Their resident Dobe is fearful of other dogs but has taken to Blake's charm and they are fast friends already.  He really is a special boy!  BDR will fix him up and kill dem worms and someone will get a lively, playful blue boy with many years ahead of him.  What a good thought!  Now that he has an actual home and bed, he's feeling pretty good - like a young Dobie-boy should feel.  Too good in fact, he's a wild child who has a hard time containing his zest for life during his worm treatment; but his too shall pass and he will be able to be himself.  Sounds like an agility candidate to me!  So which of our dedicated Worm Warriors will help kill more worms?  I have to warn you, it won't be the last time I ask you to help, but you always will, won't you?   You may begin helping Blake by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, using the gift option helps the most!  Or you may mail one in, that works too!  However you choose, every penny will go directly to the wild child!  As always, I am so very grateful for the great Doberman community that stands behind each of these so very worthy dogs!  Thank you so much!  Carol Belknap, Blake's SND Case Manager and Worm Warrior Queen.

Frank !!

October, 2022:  This beautiful boy was found wandering the streets of South Carolina with a obvious problem with his rear leg - swollen, lacerated and impossible to bear weight. Thankfully, Sweet Home Doberman Rescue in Enterprise, Alabama came immediately to his aid and rushed him to their emergency veterinarians, where it was discovered he suffered a distal fracture to the femur.   And happily, Sweet Home also gave him a lovely name - Frank. It's a name that denotes gentleness, good humor and kindness, and it fits our boy perfectly.  No one seems to know just where Frank came from.  He appears fairly well nourished, and is amenable to all the kindness and gentle handling his rescuers can dish out, even with his horrible injuries - his lungs are also bruised; apparently he took a terrible hit from a vehicle.  Thankfully, as soon as the heroes at Sweet Home learned of this dear boy's existence, he was scooped up in their loving arms and underwent orthopedic surgery at specialists in South Carolina yesterday (10/24) to pin his leg back together. He's now more comfortable and recovering from that surgery.   However, once the surgeons got in they determined the fracture was older than a day or so and rather more like a week or so.  And that’s not all – it was also discovered that his patella was luxated and would require another surgery to stabilize it into position.   I can't go into the heartlessness of those who would hit a poor dog and subsequently leave.  But we have something to be eternally grateful for in the antidote - the warriors of Sweet Home Doberman Rescue.   Frank's surgery is going to run about $5000.00 - an enormous bill for a small rescue, BUT our Frank gets to keep his leg!  And, just as important – he has found love with his rescuers, who will carefully monitor his recovery and find him a home where he will be loved to the ends of the universe.  Sweet Home is a small rescue, and as with all nonprofit rescues, the work they do depends on the kindness of those who donate.  Those who believe that helping our noble and gentle breed is of the utmost importance, in other words, you.  Sweet Home has contacted their new friends at SND for financial assistance with Frank's bill.  They were willing to put ALL of their resources on the line for Frank and the SND Family is willing to help so they can help the next Doberman who need them.  This dear boy's days of wandering the side of a highway are behind him, and we are determined that Sweet Home Doberman Rescue will continue to help Dobermans in need.   Won't you help too?  This wonderful boy will run and play once again - in a home of his very own... let's help get that leg fixed!   Please begin helping Frank now by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.  The gift option if available helps even more!  USPS works for us too!  Want a look into Frank's beautiful eyes?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org,  THANK YOU!!  Leslie Michell-Young, Frank’s SND Case Manager (you know how I feel about Frank).

Sounder !!

October, 2022:   This sweet old boy hasn't always had it easy.  Sounder is at least 10 years old so he's been that way for a while.  He's blue, so he is balding.  And of course, that's been his life…  Hard to be a dashing Dober-dude with no hair.  Cold too!  He was lucky enough to be one of Dana Johnson's dogs; but he lost her when we all did…  All Doberkind will forever treasure our memories of Dana.  He was twice blessed by winding up with Ann at Dog Mountain Rescue, getting another chance at his golden years.  He has his spot as a Senior Doberman in the Senior Doberman Project too. He should have been set… but… Ann was watching TV when she heard him get a big drink of water.  A really big drink which has been quite common - except for this time.  He began trying to vomit unsuccessfully and outside Ann and Sounder went (been there, done that, haven't you?).   He still could not vomit and his abdomen had become distended and was hanging down.  He was so distended in fact he needed to spread his back feet out to keep balance; his abdomen was swaying with the weight of the water and throwing him off balance.  I can picture this poor old Dobe panting and miserable…  Needless to say it was emergency vet time, but the closest one could not take him.  He had to make it through a 90 minute drive to the next available ER.   He was very quiet all the way there and Ann feared he wouldn't make it alive.  She drove like the wind… The techs took him immediately and of course it was GDV and they were headed to surgery.   At midnight Ann got a phone call saying the surgery went as well as could be expected in as serious case as this.  Fortunately his spleen had not twisted!  The vet feels he received medical care quickly enough, although there may be damage that they are not aware of yet.  However, his recovery might take some time, you don't bounce back so fast when you're old…  None of this has been cheap for Dog Mountain Rescue.   The ER staff couldn't even say they could get a non-profit discount… Please consider joining DMR and SND in caring for this so precious commodity - a Senior Doberman.   You may begin helping Sounder by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.  The gift option if available helps even more!  USPS will get a check to us too! This is a big vet bill and a very worthwhile rescue… please help!   Want to get another glance of a still VERY handsome DobeGent?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org, send Sounder a smile AND visit his Senior Page for more pix and smiles!  Thank you, thank you THANK YOU! Peaches !!

October, 2022:   This sweetheart is yet another poster girl for benign neglect.  Beautiful Princess Peaches hails from California, the land of surf and sunshine, but sadly, all this dear girl has known is ignorance.  Guessed to be about 4 years old, she fortunately came into Bella and Sunshine Rescue gimpy, panting and obese with a head injury - and pyometra to add to her troubles.  There isn't much known of Peaches' past, although she's young.  We do know that she was used as a breeding machine by her past owners and she escaped.  She was picked up by Animal Control and when the ACO found her owners (we're using the term lightly), they didn't want her back... how often have we heard this tale?  Peaches was immediately taken to Bella and Sunshine's veterinarians, where it was learned she has arthritis in her foreleg, is quite overweight and extremely hypothyroid.  Anyone who has been around Dobermans knows the breed is predisposed to hypothyroidism.   It's obvious her people (first owners and 2nd owners who she was surrendered to) didn't have a clue regarding hypothyroidism.  Peaches was bred by both sets of people before she happily wandered off and waddled directly to animal control.  I am happy to report our Princess has had a full surgery yesterday morning and got rid of both her infected uterus and pyometra for good!  She also had a full thyroid panel done, which gave her veterinarians the information needed to give her the proper dosage of thyroid hormone.  Our beautiful princess will soon be feeling frisky and dancing up a storm... in other words, Princess Peaches life is just beginning!  The intuition of our canine friends is breathtaking - Peaches saw an opportunity to get herself a new life and she went for it!  We are so very happy she's now with Bella and Sunshine Rescue, where she'll soon become a showstopper... but remember, rehabilitating a Dobe with all these health problems does not come cheaply.  Bella and Sunshine has come to Special Needs Dobermans to help defray some of the costs of Peaches considerable veterinary bills.  Have a look a this beautiful, happy sweetheart in her October finery -  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org and then send her a Halloween treat (she's had all the tricks she needs for a lifetime :) donation via Special Needs Dobermans.   You can begin now - just click on the links to use USPS or PayPal.  We thank you and all of us can look forward to seeing Peaches in the swimsuit issue this coming Spring!  Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager... I love Peaches!

Chilee !!

October, 2022:   The condition of some of the Dobes our SND rescue families take in are at times inexplicable.   Kind, loving Chilee is an absolutely beautiful three year old who was in an animal shelter listed as a ‘stray hold’.  She had a quite obvious, HUGE (and I do mean HUGE) vaginal prolapse!!   This is not a common occurrence in K-9’s, however, when it does happen, it needs immediate attention - obviously Chilee was not afforded that care.  A prolapse as large as this very sweet girl’s can also involve necrosis of the vaginal wall, herniation of the bladder, and even effect the descending colon. The pain, the constant pressure and (due to the size) most likely difficulty/or inability to urinate, would be total torment!  On Chilee’s behalf, a shelter employee/rescue liaison of Doberman Pinscher Rescue located in Fillmore, California, contacted the DPR Rescue Warriors immediately and asked for assistance ASAP when her stray hold was up.  DPR was right there when Chilee was released and she was taken straight to an emergency hospital for initial treatment.  Her prolapse was surprisingly able to be reinserted (!!!) and she was stabilized for additional treatment the following day.  Chilee was transferred to DPR’s regular vet and she did have her prolapse repaired and was spayed as well. A follow up visit will be required to ensure her recovery is uncomplicated by any further findings.  Of course, we don’t know how long Chilee suffered with this severe prolapse, but thankfully the DPR warriors do not turn down a Dobe because of medical concerns. They are constantly taking in uncared for Dobies who have complex medical issues.  This is why the DPR Warriors have come to our SND family for assistance.  We know that times are tough right now for most people, so we are asking that, if able, you send a contribution of ANY amount to assist with sweet Chilee’s care.   NO amount is ever too small, and I’m sure she’s feeling sooooo much better now that she’s on the road to healing.  The many Dobermans you’ve helped, the rescues who save them and we at SND are profoundly grateful for your continued support!  You can begin now - just click on the links to use USPS or PayPal.   Thank you so much for caring!   Did we say beautiful DobeLady?  We think you'll agree!  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  THANK YOU! Blaze !!

October, 2022:   This gorgeous, goofy red boy might be a year old, he might be as much as 3.  At some point in his short life someone put some money and care into him.   He has a beautiful traditional ear crop with full mobility.  What happened to Blaze between then and rescue, no one knows.  What I can say is that he fell into the loving arms of our Sweet Melissa and her band of Rescue Angels at Bluegrass Doberman Rescue.  Good thing too as it turns out!  He was emaciated and heartworm positive (you saw that coming with Melissa and me, right?).  He was also intact and not house broken.  Perhaps a kennel dog, who knows--but he is both neutered, vaccinated and being housebroken and crate trained as I type!  At some point soon this sweet, silly boy will be ready for a forever home with years to love and be loved by the right family.   Blaze is acclimating to life as an indoor dog and is blossoming in his foster home. He is extremely brave and curious but still very Velcro.  Also high energy--I'd love to see someone get him into agility!  He has found out about couch naps, toys and bones and is loving it all!  He's good with both male and female dogs and will fit in just perfectly in an active home!  Please consider joining BDR and SND in getting this goofy boy the life he deserves!   What a happy ending his story could have with your help!  You may begin helping Blaze by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.   USPS will whish your help right to him too.  Gotta kill 'dem worms, horrid, deadly things!  If that makes us bloodthirsty (worm-thirsty?), so be it!  I want to thank you for your continued support of our Worm Wars, I would like to think we've made a dent in the worm population!   Thank you!!!!  Carol Belknap, Blaze's SND Case Manager and Worm Warrior Queen.

Nova !!

October, 2022:   I don’t know about you, but I know that my Doberman will, at times, eat some things that she shouldn’t.  With her, it’s mainly food.   So what do I do?  I protect her, and keep her safe, by not allowing exposure to what I know can harm her.  Some dogs however will eat... let’s say… socks!  Now to introduce Nova.   Nova is ONLY TWO years old and is on her SECOND abdominal surgery for an obstruction!!  Now I don’t know about you, but my intuition screams a few things, but I’m going to be nice and just say ‘recklessness and/or negligence’?  (But, I digress).  Prior owners did take Nova to an emergency clinic, however, they could not (or would not) pay for another surgery which would’ve ultimately resulted in the euthanasia of Nova.  Thankfully, an astute and caring employee of the hospital contacted Georgia Doberman Rescue asking their warriors to please take this sweet as pie young Dobe into their rescue to save her life.  Despite the late hour of the call, action took place and Nova was surrendered to GDR.  She was then transferred to the main branch of the emergency clinic so she could be stabilized to undergo surgery ASAP.  The surgeon removed a sock and noted ‘several’ adhesions in her intestines from previous foreign bodies.  It was made clear that it is ‘absolutely imperative’ that Nova be adopted to a home where this will never happen again as she may not make it through a third obstruction.   The good news is she’s now recovering in her foster home and doing well. The not so good news is there is a VERY large veterinary bill for the emergency care, the extensive pre-op protocol, the surgery itself, and the post-op care that still needs to be covered.  GDR has come to our SND family for assistance with this LARGE debt, but say sweet Nova was well worth it.  Please, please, make any size of a donation you possibly can.  NO amount is ever too small!!  Let’s work together to keep our rescues afloat and able to save more of the never ending Dobes in need!  We greatly thank our SND family for your continued generosity.  You can begin now - just click on the inks to use USPS or PayPal.  In the meantime, we hope to inspire you with another look at this beautiful DobeGirlie - Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  THANK YOU! Ares !!

September, 2022:   Little Boy Blue Ares is 2 years old.  We even have a DOB- 8/11/20.  That's because he came from a breeder.  You got that, right? A breeder… VERY backyard and uncommitted.  They dumped him on Doberman Rescue League Inc. in Florida because he was of no use to them and because neutering him was too risky (like they would have, he's no good without testes).  It seems this pretty little blue boy has several significant health problems. Golly, do you imagine that could have anything to do with their breeding program?  I really hate backyard breeders in it for the money. Really, sincerely HATE.  So here is this little boy dumped on a brand new to SND rescue with several serious health problems.  First of all, he is Von Willebrand Positive.  My guess is they are still breeding his "family" without any thought of passing on this terrible affliction.  I mean, if a bitch dies in labor, it's only a dog, right?  Easily replaceable with a sister or daughter… His second problem is just as bad--Megaesophagus.   I can only imagine what his life has been like and the condition this has left him in because I certainly can't picture a special feeding set-up in my mind, can you?  So this rescue has the expense of a high risk neuter, very pricey with special surgery precautions.  Then, assuming the neuter goes as planned, a program to deal with his megaesophagus.  Then they must find an adopter willing to take on his special needs. If it sounds like an expensive, daunting project--it is!  Please consider joining DRL and SND in helping this little boy have the best chance at life possible.  You may begin helping Ares by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, or by dropping a check in the mail, USPS is waiting… I would like to welcome Doberman Rescue League to the SND family!  Long may you save!  I also would like to thank you all for your continued support of our SNDobies!  No matter what we bring to you, you deal with it in a compassionate manner.  Thank You!!! Ezra !!

September, 2022:   He is old; 7 or 8 years at least.   A dear sweet castaway found running for all he's worth down a California highway.  It's anyone's guess just how long this sweetheart was fending for himself, but it's been a substantial amount of time... Finally, this sweet boy was corralled by volunteers of Bella and Sunshine Rescue in southern California. Now, he has a name. Ezra.  Please remember it as Ezra is very, very sick.  Ezra is full of BB pellets (including his eyes and testicles), he was covered in ticks and has over a dozen lumps and bumps.  He's anemic and may be slowly bleeding internally or just drained of his lifeblood by all the ticks covering his body.  Ezra's eyes are clouded; he cannot see very well.  He also has pneumonia.  I could go on for an hour about what deplorable condition this sweetheart is in.  Most people treasure their senior dogs and it's clear poor Ezra has had very little love in his life.  After being a Case Manager for SND for many years, Ezra is just about the worst case I've ever seen.  He is a reflection of the cruelties and indifference in society.  Ezra has finally found people who love him with Bella and Sunshine Rescue - people who are going to do everything possible to help him.  His veterinarians cannot begin treating him until an ultrasound is performed due to his terrible condition, and Bella and Sunshine has already started fundraising to help defray some of what promise to be HUGE expenses... but, Ezra is one of the sweetest Dobes around and Special Needs Dobermans will go into overdrive to help raise funds to assure Bella and Sunshine remains solvent while they go about a superhuman effort to help Ezra.  The expenses promise to be astronomical.  Please help, and remember his name... Ezra, the dear old gentleman... Begin now by clicking on the links to use USPS or PayPal.  Look into the eyes of this Senior Dobe Gent - Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  Thank you! September, 2022:   Precious Penelope is barely out of puppyhood; she is estimated to be only 12 – 18 months old.  She was found wondering about all by herself when picked up by animal control.  Upon arriving at the area animal shelter, it was clearly evident she was in pain and unable to bear weight on her right front leg.  The consensus by all in attendance was that she was most likely hit by a car.  However, due to the shelter not having xray equipment, her leg was splinted for stability and the rescue angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue, located in Fillmore, California, were contacted for assistance.  DPR routinely rescues Dobes with medical emergencies and they weren’t about to turn Miss Penelope away. Upon examination by DPR’s veterinarian, it was determined she does indeed have a fractured foreleg as well as a fractured pelvis.   The good news is her pelvis will heal fine and shouldn’t cause any lasting damage.  The bad news is Penelope will need surgery with a plate and screws in her leg for healing.  If her leg is unable to heal properly, the next step would be amputation.  She does have an upper respiratory tract infection right now, therefore no surgery will be performed this week because the infection needs to be resolved prior to surgery.  Once cleared for surgery the procedure will need to be performed ASAP.  You can see why the DPR saviors have come to our SND family for assistance with sweet Penelope’s extensive veterinary care.  Please help us and donate to Penelope’s care if possible.  NO amount is ever too small as it all adds up.   The rescues need our assistance to help them remain solvent and able to continue rescuing the many Dobermans who need them.  To see how you can help, Just click on the links to use USPS or PayPal.  The numerous Dobes, the many rescues and we at SND are forever grateful for your continued graciousness!  In the coming days we'll circulate her beautiful face on our home page too.  THANK YOU!!  Beth McCahren, Penelope's SND Case Manager.

Bonnie !!

September, 2022:   Sweet Bonnie's 2 years of life have been pretty bad.  Grim in fact.  She was one of 7 Dobes seized in a cruelty/neglect case.  Although all the dogs were pitifully underweight and dehydrated--Bonnie was the worst, poor little girl.  She truly has NEVER had a chance at life, unless being saved by Ardis and her Rescue Angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue helps change that outlook.  They have been known to work miracles and it looks like they need another one right now.  When she reached a more normal weight, she was spayed.  Lo and behold, she was 4 weeks pregnant!  Big surprise since the other dogs were males…  If only that was the worst of her problems…  You see her sweetness so impressed former adopters, they were ready to add her to their home.  She would have another Dobe as a partner and friend and hopefully a long life ahead of her.  But she was drinking enormous amounts of water and while a heat spell could explain that and her lethargy, it was not the answer.  Neither is diabetes.   Her blood sugar is about the only good thing going for her!  Her kidneys are in bad shape, it's looking like acute kidney disease, cause unknown (at this point, it could even have been poison).  She also has an upper respiratory infection, adding Doxycycline to her treatment.  Ardis also suspects leptospirosis.  Luckily the Doxy will help with that too, if it is lepto.  Further testing will tell them more but right now her prognosis is not good.  We all know DPR will keep fighting for this little one, and right now she is fighting too, she is not getting any worse, and that's about the best we can hope for today.  This is a young girl, at the beginning of what should be a wonderful life, won't you consider joining DPR and SND in giving her the only chance she will ever have at that life?  I know I will be watching for Ardis's updates and hoping for good news!   All of this is a tremendous financial burden on a rescue and each day seems to bring more and more costly vet expense.  They care, we care--do you care?  We know you will!  You can begin helping by clicking on the PayPal button to the right - the USPS will also get any help you care to give straight to Bonnie and her bills.   Every penny, honest, we all do this out of love of these tremendous dogs who have filled our lives with so much joy.  Her picture here seems to cry out "HELP"!!  And, you can see her precious face reinforcing that plea too - just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  As always I humbly thank you for your continued support of our SNDobies! Thank you! Carol Belknap, Bonnie's SND Case Manager.

Ben !!

September, 2022:   As with so many Dobes that find themselves in sketchy circumstances, dear, beautiful Ben found himself in a small California shelter without much action - that is, until the late, great Dana Johnson discovered him. Unfortunately, Dana passed away before she could complete his future plans for adoption and so, sweet Ben slipped through the cracks at a boarding kennel.  That is until Dog Mountain Rescue and their fearless leader, Ann Koch was told of his predicament and brought him to Dog Mountain.  This is a happy tale, but upon arrival at the DMR's vet, an ingrown dewclaw was discovered.  Dewclaws are vestigial remnants of canine ancestors when they occur on rear legs but they still are very evident on forelegs.   Most of the time nowadays dewclaws are removed when puppies are whelped because of the chances of the claw getting caught during play or heavy activity.  Obviously, no one paid any attention to dewclaws when Ben was born, because now our stunning Senior Gent has a painful ingrown dewclaw that needs immediate attention. Without intervention, the site can become infected which can bring a whole load of very nasty problems, not to mention the danger of getting the claw caught and torn.   Because Ben's dewclaw is ingrown, it was causing him more than a little discomfort which will only escalate.  Ann and her army of Doberman crusaders are dedicated to helping all dogs that come to them and they have called upon SND to help Ben get the veterinary attention he needs so he can dance and continue to be the beautiful, happy boy he is.  As an adult, not to mention a Senior adult, this isn't as simple as snipping the soft bones of puppyhood.  At this point surgery and some casting will be required -  yes, that means $$$.   Please, dance along with Ben and help him feel his best by sending along a donation to Special Needs Dobermans.  Just click on the links to use USPS or PayPal.  With your help, Ben will be swinging on the dance floor mesmerizing all who gaze at him in no time.  Want another mesmerizing glance at this handsome Gent? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  Thank you! Leslie Michell-Young, Ben’s SND Case Manager (let's dance!). Stay tuned for Ben's Senior Page soon - more pix, more love!!

Maddy !!

UPDATE - September 12, 2022: Another heartbreaking sad goodbye this month.  Reading Maddy's story you'll see there were many ups and downs in Maddy's short life.  She didn't die alone and she didn't die because she wasn't loved and cared for.  She suffers no longer and the sadness is ours.  Her champions knew her prognosis was pretty poor but they gave her their best love and care until nothing more could be done.  She ashes will rest on Dog Mountain where she spent her happiest days - frolic on Sweet Princess.  Thank you to all who helped and thank you to DMR for their valiant efforts to save her.
UPDATE - August , 2022
Here's Maddy once again!  Maddy's saga began with bad news and since then has been a long series of good news then bad news over and again since she was to be put to sleep by her "owners" - she became a wondrous rescue after being signed over to the vet clinic.  Desperate attempts to find rescue ended with good news because of Dog Mountain Rescue. Maddy had a $2K CT at Oregon State diagnosing her hepatic shunt but they couldn't schedule surgery for months.  Months later, she was seen at UC Davis and they insisted she have another CT (another $3.5K).   This CT revealed further complications with intestinal blood vessels which made her a poor candidate for shunt surgery.  Final good news is that DMR will see to medical management of diet and meds to control the effects of her anomalous liver function.  DMR tells us she is doing well and has become a very beautiful and happy young lady in spite of the odds against her.  Over $6K and no actual solution - just management - better than PTS Maddy thinks!! Won't you please help us to defray these additional expenses?  Maddy, DMR and we at SND would be very grateful!
March, 2022
:  I just love this little girl!  At eight months old Maddy was taken by her original owners to a veterinarian to be evaluated – she was very underweight (weighing in at only 38 lbs), exhibiting neurologic sysmptoms and, due to weakness, was unable to hold her head up.  Upon examination and labs, the owners realized they were unable to afford the care Maddy would need and decided on euthanasia.  However, upon recommendation from the vet, Maddy was surrendered to the clinic!   After a few days of hospitalization and prescription food Maddy showed improvement.  At this point the clinical staff began reaching out to rescues for help - far away in Oregon to the Rescue Angels of Dog Mountain Rescue in Willits, California - logistically difficult at best but, they immediately began to try to overcome the many hurdles!  Maddy’s diagnosis is portosystemic shunt (an abnormal blood vessel that leads to the liver).  This means that blood from the abdominal organs which should be drained into the liver to be cleansed of toxins instead bypasses the liver and goes directly into the circulatory system.   So, not only are the toxins going through the body, the nutrients aren’t being absorbed as they need to be.  DMR was referred to Oregon State University for Maddy to have a CT scan to confirm the type and extent of the shunt followed by a VERY expensive surgery.   If all the pieces fall into place (financial and logistic), following surgery and recovery, Maddy will be able to live a normal life!  DMR is a small rescue and has come to SND for assistance with these costly but life saving procedures.  Now it’s OUR turn to step up to the plate, just as DMR did, to help Maddy!  Please remember that NO gift is ever too small and your tax deductible donation will go directly to Maddy’s care.  Just click on the PayPal link on the right to see how you can donate (if using PayPal and if able, please click on ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ to avoid fees being deducted)!  Of course, USPS is always an option as well!   You can be sure Maddy, DMR, we at SND thank you in advance for your continued generosity!!  You’ve got this Maddy!!  If you want to see a budding beauty, just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  THANK YOU!  Beth McCahren, Maddy's SND Case Manager.

Mahina !!

August, 2022:   Lets start with this scenario: July 4th, fireworks, a terrified Doberman on the loose and two cars.  You already know where this is going… Mahina was hit by not one, but by two cars on July 4th.  Spectators watching fireworks in a nearby park observed Mahina dashing across traffic… terrified… running for her life!  Then it happened - she was hit by a car and the driver never even stopped!  Mahina got up… more terrified than ever… took off running again and was hit by a second car, but this time she didn’t get up.  The horrified spectators called animal control to render help to Mahina. The officer who arrived on scene reported that even in the dim light, he could see ‘white pieces of bone sticking out’ in ‘multiple places’ on her leg. She was muzzled for safety as she was transported to the local animal shelter, and despite the agonizing pain she was in, she welcomed help and attempted to give kisses.  She then was immediately transported from the shelter to a contract vet that the rescue works with.  X-rays were done and the diagnosis was ‘multiple compound fractures (protruding through the skin) with one of the bones being split down the middle’.  This is not good news at all, especially for a young and still not fully grown 11 month old pup.  Unbelievably, but very common, no one was searching for Mahina!  The shelter followed instructions for wound care, but they didn’t have the funds for surgery to be done, therefore, if no one came to claim her when her stray hold was up, she would be euthanized.  The awesome angels of Bella and Sunshine Rescue, located in southern California, got word of Mahina and immediately put a rescue commitment in place for her.  Within a few days of taking her into their care, B&SR had Mahina to an orthopedic surgeon.  Due to the split of the bone the surgeon was skeptical Mahina’s leg could be saved. B&SR asked the surgeon to please, please try to save the leg.  And save it she did!  Mahina has a plate in her leg with 12 screws to hold it in place! Her leg will always be twisted out and not completely straight, but she has it!  To date this DDD (Dear Darling Doberman) is having no implant rejection or complications.  Compound fractures take quite a long time to heal, and Mahina’s recovery time will be at least eight to 16 weeks. I am sure I don’t have to point out that this is a very very costly endeavor that B&SR has taken on with Mahina, but they are in unison that this awesomely sweet Dober pup is well worth the cost.  Our rescues are so dedicated to the Dobermans in need, they don’t turn away a Dobe based on cost alone to treat an illness or injury.  At this time B&SR is looking at neary $7,000 in vet fees!  They need our help!  Won’t you please donate what you can to offset this cost?  They were there for Mahina when no one else was, now let us be there for them as a thank you for their allegiance to Mahina!  To donate is easy!   Just click on the links to use USPS or PayPal (if using PayPal and if able, please click on the tabs ‘ friends and family’ and ‘send money’ to keep your gift ‘fee free’).  The rescues you support and we at SND wholeheartedly thank you for your continued commitment!   Want a look at a poignant plea for help from a pretty DobeGirlie?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org . Esther !!

August, 2022:   This amazing and resilient Dober-Lady is at least 13 years old.  At my house, as I'm sure at yours, a 13 year Dober birthday would be celebrated with much love, many kisses and some favorite treats throughout the day. Unfortunately, Esther didn't come from my house or yours but the streets of L.A.  Whoever had the "care" of her for these years was not kind or loving but using and abusing - ultimately dumping her.   I only wondered why they waited so long!  Thirteen!  She was certainly no longer good for breeding for some time…  Luckily for her, she wound up at Bella and Sunshine Rescue in California.   Bella and Sunshine is a "new to SND" Doberman rescue whose presence has saved many Dobes and we thank them sincerely.  And, now they have saved one very precious Senior, Esther.  Bella and Sunshine Rescue is new to the SND family but as their board members are former donors to us, I hope you will all join me in welcoming them, they are not strangers!  Before Esther came to Bella and Sunshine she was in an animal shelter for some months.  Nobody wanted her, she's too old with too many senior and varied ailments… but B&SR found her and she is safe.  At last her problems can be treated and she can finish her life on a high note!  On intake she was found to have a raging eye infection resulting in green-purple discharge coming from both eyes, an open, unhealing ulcer, ulcerated skin bumps and numerous warts surrounding her mouth. It was initially decided not to spay her due to her age and condition. It was feared she could not make it through the surgery.   All that changed when she began bleeding from the vagina from pyometra, shaking and trembling uncontrollably and her breathing became labored.  Esther is sweet as pie and has shown great joy over her quality of life in the past few months, and so, the decision was made to give her a chance.  A chance she certainly deserves, don't you agree?    So she is getting emergency surgery as I type this and I'm sure Annalisa from B&SR will update us all on her progress!  Please consider helping sweet Esther by joining SND and B&SR in our fight for her life!  You may begin helping Esther by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, using the gift option if available… or by mailing in your donation.  No amount of help is too little, it will all go to her and she will be very grateful!  As always I thank you for the time and help you donate to our SNDobies!!!  Want another look at a STILL beautiful and STILL noble Grand Dame Doberman?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org .   Thank you! Dobby !!

August, 2022:   Beautiful Dobby! Once you gaze at his picture, you'll be saying the same thing. A young, breathtaking fawn boy, he wound up in a California shelter with a compound fracture of the foreleg. Happily, the kind shelter had his leg splinted and contacted Ardis - Supreme Doberman Rescue Angel - of Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore. We do know Dobby is around 2 years old, and we also know he's a very lucky boy, and it's thought Dobby agrees. When Ardis's volunteer came to pick him up, Dobby bounded out of his enclosure on his good three legs and proceeded to melt hearts of everyone around him... after all, just look at those eyes... Dobby is now safely ensconced with one of Ardis's loving and attentive volunteers. We're told by the shelter's radiologist who viewed Dobby's films that there's more than a good chance he'll heal with crate rest and tons of love without further intervention. That, my friends, is lucky...   This is not to negate Dobby's veterinary expenses - he will need regular check-ups and additional x-rays to make certain his healing is on track... and that's pricey in any times but even more so in these economic times of skyrocketing prices on everything! Please send some love to Dobby via a donation to Special Needs Dobermans!   It will not only help the amazing Doberman Pinscher Rescue, it will also help other Dobermans at this wonderful rescue heal and find their forever homes.  You can begin helping now by making a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or by mailing in a donation.  Take a look at Dobby's picture right here https://www.doberman911.org - we think you're going to melt too! Charlene !!

August, 2022:   The beauty before you is Charlene, a two years young, all natural white Dober girl.   When her owner was no longer able to care for her, the Rescue Angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue, in Fillmore, California, were notified and consequently stepped up to the plate to welcome Charlene into their pack.  As you can see, Charlene has a significant squint.  Blue eyes are very sensitive to light in the albinoid whites.  Charlene has most likely spent significant time without the necessary protective eyewear which in turn caused her to constantly squint as she attempted to protect her eyes especially in bright sunlight.  She's also quite susceptible to sunburn as well as skin cancer.  Charlene did develop two melanoma spots which were promptly removed and presently she is doing well.  DPR never turns a Dobe away because of a medical need and have several medical cases at any given time.   The DPR Rescue Angels have therefore come to our SND family for assistance with Charlene’s surgical bill.  Please donate if you can, and remember that NO amount is ever too small!  You can click on the links on the right to donate using PayPal or USPS.   Your donations, no matter the amount, continue to help to save Dobes throughout our country, and the many Doberman rescues you’ve assisted, as well as we at SND, are forever grateful for your graciousness!  Thank you so much! Talon !!

UPDATE - August 17, 2022It is with much sadness that we report Miss Talon did not win her fight.  What appeared to be a severe intractable pneumonia was just another manifestation of the underlying issue - inoperable liver shunt.  Likely a congenital issue as her liver and kidneys as well were underdeveloped.  With many tears she was released from her pain today.  She didn't die unloved or uncared for by a group of Rescue Angels who were willing to go to great lengths to save her.  Rest in Peace Sweet Little Princess, you were loved.
August, 2022
:   We have here a sweet 10 month old girly for your consideration.  Her name is Talon and she found herself in an animal shelter in Georgia with an upper respiratory infection.  Dumped because she was sick?  Who knows?  That infection quickly escalated into pneumonia and she was head for the Blue Cocktail.   Instead, thanks to the Rescue Angels of Georgia Doberman Rescue, she is now at Blue Pearl Emergency clinic fighting for her life.  She was found as a stray and taken to this high volume urban shelter.  Georgia Doberman Rescue pulled her from the shelter and a few days later her symptoms worsened despite her initial treatment.  X-rays showed that the upper respiratory infection had turned into pneumonia and that is when she was hospitalized for treatment.  We are waiting for an update on her condition which hopefully will be today (Sunday, 8/14) and with good news!  We are all hoping she can fight this infection and resume the happy life she deserves.  In any case, Georgia Doberman Rescue of Georgia is going to need help with her vet bills and that is where you come in.  Please help us with Talon's vet care needs and let all your dog loving friends and family know about Talon's plight.   Intensive care is VERY expensive and could reach $5K in these times of inflation everywhere you look.  We need all the help we can get for this little lady.  You can make your tax deductible donation by using PayPal or mailing in your donation.  I don't have to tell you how much we appreciate what all of our supporters do to help these rescues who work tirelessly to save our sweet Dobermans!  Want to see a real Fawn Girl's beauty shine in the Georgia pines?  Just click right here:  https://www.doberman911.org.   THANK YOU!!  Thank you!   Nancy Harwood, SND Case Manager.

Ruby !!

July, 2022: Another Ruby!!  This sweet old girl Ruby lost her home when her owner's medical issues became overwhelming.  Supposedly she will be 8 years old on September 3rd but Melissa doubts it, she believes her to be older.  Of course life may have prematurely aged her, it doesn't look like Ruby was treated like the gem she is, that's for sure.  Ruby came from a flea market years ago, a gift for her grandson (who can't keep her, go figure).  The angels at Bluegrass Doberman Rescue were only too glad to gather her into their loving arms.  She has clearly had puppies, who knows how many; and has been left outside alone.  She is scared to go outside in case she can't get back in.  I've seen this fear before and it is heartbreaking.  I've watched the afraid dog wait for some other dog ask to go out so he could too--and then hurrying to "finish" before the others so as not to be left behind.  When the spoiled dogs would want out only to gaze around and want right back in he would be so frustrated!   That is Ruby and her fear of being left outside for good, poor girl.  Ruby is loving her foster home and foster Dobie-bro and their slow walks around the farm.  Life has a whole new meaning for this old girl, and it's all good!  She loves the company of other dogs, cats and especially people.  She really loves people.   She would really like to show someone how much love she still has to give--but first we need to fix her. Sweet Melissa and her dedicated crew will do the hard work, but we need to help too.  Please consider joining BDR and SND in killing more worms.  A battle we are determined to win, with your help.  Other than a little arthritis the only thing between Ruby and a happy forever are a heart full of worms.  You're right, once again being abandoned will save her life!!! If you would like to be part of Ruby's salvation, you may begin by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, using the gift option helps even more.  Help comes via USPS too! The worm wars are ours to win but we must not give up!  I thank you so deeply for your continued support of our beloved SNDobies! Thank you !!! Minor !!

Miss Izzy!!

UPDATE - August 22, 2022Following her MRI today it was determined that there was too much spinal disease to attempt to correct with surgery.  Palliative modalities of physical therapy and medications is the best that can be done for Minor.  She has improved somewhat so far and is much more comfortable.  Minor and TDRP have been very fortunate as her Foster Mom will love and keep her from now on!  Please continue to help this absolutely beautiful Lady... We've posted a new eye candy for your viewing pleasure here https://www.doberman911.org. Her new BFF Mom blessed her with a new name saying "there's nothing minor about this Lady"... She is now Miss Izzy!!
July, 2022
:   Can you say STUNNING??  Meet one of the most gorgeous Dobergirls you'll ever see.  Beautiful Minor was recently surrendered to a shelter in Idaho by her so-called caretakers with obvious but undiagnosed mobility issues. Although she looks loved and cared for, given her mammaries, she was also used for breeding over and over.  Guess she outlived her usefulness with this looming issue.  She has not seen a veterinarian for her wobbly gait which she developed about 6 months ago... no exam, no x-rays... nothing.  Poor baby was dropped off at the shelter without so much as an ear rub with the attitude she's someone else's problem now - expensive problem now.  The shelter in this case did not have the resources for a neurology consult and this beauty was set to be euthanized... but happily, The RA’s (Rescue Angels) from The Doberman Rescue Pack were alerted to this beauty, and off Minor went from Boise to Seattle to a wonderful, caring, rescue.  Minor is only about 5 1/2 years old, but her gait is very shaky much of the time, although she's been known to trot and jump for joy when she sees a leash, a new toy or a comfy bed.  At times, she walks with her beautiful head down, clearly in pain.  An initial exam did not reveal any prior injuries - no orthopedic damage and no signs of nutritional deficits, but clearly, something is hurting her.  The Doberman Rescue Pack has come to SND to get beautiful Minor the help she needs, which will be a thorough exam by a board certified veterinary neurologist which will include an MRI - a very pricy proposition... but just look at this beauty!  Here at Special Needs Dobermans we are happy to do anything to help this dear baby be free of pain and help her achieve and stabilize what mobility she'll have whatever her diagnosis.  Please join me in getting the word out about this sweet as 1000 pies girl.  You can begin helping now by making a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or by mailing in a donation.  Want to see a real Beauty Pose enjoying a snack?  Just click right here:  https://www.doberman911.org.  Thank you for your support of all our SND Dobes and we hope your coming contributions for Minor - the sweetest Dobergirl you'll ever see!  Thank you!! Alvin !!

July, 2022:   “He’s one of the sweetest dogs we’ve ever had in our rescue, and that’s saying a lot” is how the Georgia Doberman Rescue warriors describe five year old Alvin!  Alvin was picked up as a stray and “was a mess”; poor boy had several wounds and scars which pointed to a previous hard life.  Of course, Alvin was vetted and naturally, was found to be positive for heartworms.  Treatment was started and the first round was uneventful, however, following the second round Alvin was in notable pain.   He was walking stiffly, crying and even unable to make it outside to potty!  He was taken back to the vet who gave a lame (pun intended) reason that didn’t add up to Alvin’s pain.  He was then taken to a second vet where the same thing happened, a guess that didn’t add up.  At this point Alvin was taken to Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine where it was surmised the pain is from either a disc injury or a pinched nerve, either one extremely painful.  The only way to truly diagnose and treat Alvin’s pain is to have a MRI done. If the MRI does indeed reveal a disc injury, as is suspected, he will need ‘ventral slot surgery’.  Yes, the MRI and the possible surgery are definitely expensive procedures.  However, the GDR warriors are in agreement that sweet Alvin definitely deserves whatever care is needed to make him well.  Alvin deserves to live the rest of his life pain free in his forever home, where he will receive the care and love that should’ve always been lavished upon him!   That being explained, GDR has come to our SND community for assistance in providing Alvin the care he needs, and we hope to be able to abide.   Please remember that NO donation is ever too small as every cent adds up, all which will go toward Alvin’s testing/surgery.  Our SND community has been faithful in helping our rescues- SND as well as the rescue angels and the Dobes in need are eternally grateful.  Just click on the links below to read how you can be a part of Alvin’s pain free future!  (PS if donating via PayPal and if able, please click on ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ tabs to be assured your gift if ‘fee free’.)  Of course, you may also mail your help!  Want to see the proud handsome DUDE he can become again?  Just click right here:  https://www.doberman911.org. Purlu !!

July, 2022:   I don't know how to pronounce her name, or what it means but I can tell you other things about her.  I can tell you she's only a year or two old and that nothing points to anyone caring about her EVER…  Somehow this beautiful all natural girl got dumped in a rural part of Texas.  Life was hard, she lost any weight she might have had and was bitten and scratched by whatever she met out there.  Other ferals or even coyotes for one though given her size, not as likely…  Until a rescuer found her she most likely never knew anything resembling kindness or care.  Of course all that changed when Anthony and his Rescue Angels at High Desert Doberman Rescue in New Mexico wrapped her in their loving arms.  She is now safe and being cared for by a Foster Family.  And, someday soon she'll be ready to become some lucky family's Forever Darling.  Before that happens she needs to put on much weight and heal her body.  A big part of that will be killing the heartworms filling her heart.  We have to get them outta there to make room for all the love that's coming!  Please consider helping more worms die so this pretty girl can live!  You may begin helping Purlu (aka Sascha as her FF calls her :) - a foster failure in the making?  We can only hope so!!) by clicking on the PayPal button to the right (using the gift option when possible). Snow White !!

July, 2022:  First a little explanation in case there is anyone who has no knowledge of canine vWD or von Willebrands Disease.  vWD is an inherited bleeding disorder caused by a lack of von Willebrand protein (vWF).  This protein circulates in the bloodstream and must be present at the site of blood vessel injury in order to control bleeding from that vessel.  Now to introduce this Doberlady "Snow White" - she was picked up as a stray in a remote area of northern California. She is approximately 7 years old and appears to have had puppies at sometime in her life.  She had no microchip, tags or any type of identification when found.  She is said to be very friendly and is great with people so she probably lived with a family at one time.  She is a super good girl, affectionate and gentle.  She was in a county shelter where they spay all females before being adopted, but Dog Mountian Rescue suspected vWd and they were afraid she would not survive the spay at the shelter.  DMR asked the shelter if they could take Snow White unspayed and promised to let them know when she was spayed as she would require testing for clotting factors and a specialized spay if positive to vWD.  Her test showed that she does have vWd with only 13% clotting factor at the time of testing.  DMR searched for and found a vet that could do the spay laparoscopically.  At seven years old she will make a wonderful addition to any family, no puppy puddles, chewing etc.  She is calm and affectionate, what more could anyone ask?  She also has an enlarged nipple that will be taken care of at the time of spay.  She is white so she will require a little extra care, but I know she is worth the little extra attention. This surgery is quite expensive due to the vWd but her prognosis is very good and she deserves to live her life being pampered like any lady her age should.  If you could please help this lovely girl and Dog Mountian Rescue I know they would be forever grateful.  You can begin helping now by making a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or by mailing in a donation.  Want to see Miss Snow White's plea for yourself?  Just click right here:  https://www.doberman911.org.   Please help us if you can, thank you !   Nancy Harwood, Snow White's SND Case Manager.

Ruby !!

July, 2022: Gorgeous Ruby - at only 2 years old - found herself in a California shelter facing imminent doom when our steadfast and gallant heroes - Ardis and Doberman Pinscher Rescue - snagged our little beauty just before she was slated for the needle.  She had been adopted out of the shelter, but was returned for digging (perhaps to escape her yard), so one has to assume she was unhappy.  Ardis's angels brought her to safety... however, they noticed quite quickly that Ruby was ill - very sick, in fact, she was feverish, lethargic - and twitchy.  As with all their charges, DPR immediately ferried our sweetie off to their veterinarian, where she received fluids and antibiotics.  Her fever improved (but did not disappear) and a day later, the fever spiked again.  It was then that Ruby was taken to the emergency veterinarians.  All manner of tests were performed - bloodwork, and x-rays - and still, there is no diagnosis while awaiting results from more specialized testing.  Ruby is still a very sick young lady. There are two nasty possibilities to Ruby's illness, and both are life threatening. One is distemper (the twitching), the other is leptospirosis.  Both these horrors are part of the routine vaccinations all puppies and dogs should have.  Since we don't know how this beautiful baby wound up as a shelter dog, it's questionable if she was ever vaccinated.  We are still looking for a diagnosis for Ruby, in the interim, she is still receiving supportive care. Thank the stars for Ardis and her army, without whom this dear, beautiful girl would be history.  Obviously, a non-profit rescue such as DPR faces financial burdens with all their dogs, but Ruby's expenses have been climbing and there are more steep bills to come.  DPR and dear Ruby now need our help to pay her ongoing veterinary expenses. Please send Special Needs Dobermans some love and money so Doberman Pinscher Rescue can find the source of Ruby's illness and get her well.  You may begin helping Ruby by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, or you can mail something for her instead.  As always, your donations are so very much appreciated. Remember, you are saving lives with your dollars. And, with your support, Ruby will be healthy and find herself a part of a wonderful family. Thank you! Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager - Ruby's friend.

Rex !!

June, 2022:  Four year old Rex was lucky, he's got a microchip! So when he was impounded as a stray, the shelter was able to get in touch with his people right away!  Lost dog found, end of story, right?  Wrong!  They didn't want him back and were probably sorry the damn microchip was there to identify them.  See… they probably dumped him in the first place.  This surprises both the shelter people and Doberman Pinscher Rescue Angels as he is funny, goofy and very lovable.  Who wouldn't want him?  Maybe they dumped him and refused to come get him because he needs some money spent on him and they couldn't afford it??  Nyaah, it's summer and vacation time and there's $$ for that!  But, there are better ways to go about getting rid of your 'pet' than dumping.  I imagine they think all the low budget shelters have the funds and staff to take care of him - or at least could put him to sleep.  Well, DPR has him and will fix him with your help and the he will be someone's funny, goofy sweetheart.  Rex has entropion in both eyes requiring surgery to turn those eyelids into lids rather than torturous brushes constantly scraping his eyes.  This is very painful and may be what possessed them to give up on him.  Well, he's going to have surgery and then a new loving home, thanks to all of us - The Great Doberman Community!!!   Please consider joining DPR and SND in taking away his pain and restoring his vision!  You may begin helping Rex by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, using the gift option helps even more!   You may also mail in your help, that works too!  Thank you for caring about his pain, it means so much to us all AND especially to him!  As always, I am beyond grateful for your continued support of our SNDobies!!!  Look at this face!  Sweet or what??  You decide... just click right here:   https://www.doberman911.org. Milo !!

June, 2022:  To begin with, be forewarned. THANK YOU! Chester !!

June, 2022:  Chester is a handsome four year old who lived in his so called ‘family’s’ back yard… until they decided to move.  Chester wasn’t important enough to live inside with them, and he wasn’t important enough to take on the move either.   So just like that, they left him behind.  When the rescue warriors of Doberman Rescue of Nevada took Chester into their care, he was quickly vetted and neutered.  Other than an occasional loose stool and a vomiting episode, Chester seemed to be doing well following his surgery.  His post neuter check up also seemed fine until the vet noted a murmur that was previously undetected.  Follow up for the murmur was an echocardiogram with the results sent out for expert analysis.  An ultrasound of his heart was done, and while the vet had the ultrasound in hand, she decided to take a look around – why not?  And it’s a good thing she did, because in the lowest part of his stomach the bright image of a large stone was clear!!  The stone was approximately 2 x 1 x ½ INCHES in size and HAD to be removed immediately (see insent below, yes, that's a quarter!   Emergency surgery = $$$.)  Chester recovered without incident from his delicate surgery… and then… the echo results came back.  Sadly, Chester has DCM; his left ventricle is enlarged.   A bit of uplifting news, if we can call it that, is the DCM was discovered much earlier than usual which hopefully will give him a bit of a longer survival rate.  Chester is now taking pimobendan and fish oil supplements to hopefully keep the DCM from quickly advancing.   This happy guy is now doing much better.  His sun bleached coat is a beautiful red.  He likes children and other dogs and makes friends with most all he meets.  Thanks to the commitment of DRNV, life is looking up for this DDD (Darling, Deserving Doberman.)   With his great personality, his loving forever home is surely right around the corner.  Even though saving Chester’s life was worth every penny, getting him healthy for his future adoption did come at a high cost and vet bills do need to be paid.  This brings DRNV to our SND community for assistance.  Our help is greatly needed for the rescues to stay afloat!  Please remember that NO donation is ever too small as collectively, they do add up.  Donating is easy, just click on the links to see how you can give  - by using USPS or PayPal (if using PayPal, and if able, please click on the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ links to keep your gift ‘fee free’.)  The rescues and SND thank you in advance, and we are eternally grateful for your dedication to the never ending Dobermans in need.  Here's a picture of a handsome young DUDE!!  Just click right here for some insipration:   https://www.doberman911.org.   THANK YOU!! Coco !!

June, 2022:  This smiling California girl is Coco found herself surrendered to a shelter by her owner for unknown reasons.  She's guesstimated at 3-4 years.  At some point, Coco hit the lottery, because she boarded the rescue express and
found herself in a car with a shelter volunteer headed to Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore.  Coco is now in the loving arms of Ardis and her army and of course, everyone adores her there.  When this beautiful girl had her veterinary intake exam, however, a dark cloud was discovered - a mammary tumor.  Knowing Ardis and her organization as we do, the first order of business for this smiling beauty was surgery for the excision of the tumor - the faster the removal, the better for a positive outcome.  Coco's tumor was sent off to pathology, and we're awaiting the results.  In the meantime, Coco is charming her caregivers and melting hearts wherever she goes.  She is, without a doubt, one of the sweetest and happiest Dobermans in the universe... and she's beautiful, too!  Doberman Pinscher Rescue is one of the most amazing non-profit organizations on the map.  For over 20 years, Ardis and her volunteers have saved more Dobes than many rescues combined.  They have taken on countless serious medical cases, cases that other organizations would decline.  But DPR and Ardis cannot continue to do this without financial support.  As long as there is a Special Needs Dobermans, we will always be here to help the rescue angels who are on the front lines caring for dogs that would not have a chance otherwise.  Please send your donation to SND to help DPR continue to help Dobes like Coco.  Please begin now - just use USPS or the PayPal button on the right! Just looking at this sweetie's smile is enough to bring world peace – or at least to your own hearts!  And, here's a serious 'make you smile' shot of Miss Coco -  just click right here:   https://www.doberman911.org.   THANK YOU!! Pebbles !!

June, 2022:  Pebbles is about a year old and there is no sign anyone has cared for or about him in all that time.  He is possibly the discard trash of a Greeder, but we'll never know.  He might have just been one of a street litter - a Doberman, probably not likely.  Regardless of who he is, here is his story… Pebbles was impounded as a stray.   No one claimed him and he just sat there, probably happy enough--here he had a roof and food and people who liked him.  Life was ok, right up until the morning he got sick.  Bloody diarrhea and vomiting.   His appetite was gone and his stomach was obviously painful.   They did what they could, which was X-rays.  His belly was enlarged and it looked to be something resembling pebbles there and in his intestines.  Naturally they assessed a blockage--which they were unequipped to fix.  The decision was made to euthanize… but the shelter workers wanted more for this sweet, happy, bouncy youngster.   A call was made to Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California, which was great!  They rushed right over to pick him up and deliver him to an emergency clinic where he was able to be seen immediately.   Through all of this stress and rushing around Pebbles impressed everyone by maintaining his happy, easy-going nature through the pain, transport, lights, more strangers and tests.  Pretty good for an unsocialized pup, don't you think?  Luckily he avoided surgery and is being treated for his painful gastrointestinal problems. Best of all, he got to go "home" as a DPR dog, which is pretty special.  Now he is becoming an SNDobie too!  Won't you consider "signing" his Get Well card also?  You may begin helping Pebbles by clicking on the PayPal button to the right and using the gift option. Or you can mail something right to us for him.  It'll be all his! You people reading this, helping us (and him) are the best!  You restore some of my faith in humanity. Thank You So Much!!!  Carol Belknap, Pebbles SND Case Manager.

Doc !!

June, 2022:  Totally traumatized and barely existing. That is how six year old Doc lived the first FIVE YEARS of his life! Doc and another dog were chained in a Pitch Black garage with no outside contact.  On occasion, the monster who forced this torture year after year, would toss them a bit of food… that is until the final two weeks prior to liberation.  Then food and water were totally withheld.  These two precious, innocent beings were finally fully abandoned to finish starving to death.  (Sadly, Doc was the only survivor of this hell hole).  When the loving angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Pennsylvania were alerted to Doc they didn’t delay on planning his rescue, and when he was located, they couldn’t believe their eyes.  Doc, being chained for five years, was not only starved and weak, but covered in excrement and so totally terrified of literally everything he could only urinate on himself.  We can only imagine the super sensitivity of his eyes to daylight after living in total darkness for FIVE YEARS, the fear of the unfamiliar touch of human hands, the feeling of grass beneath his feet, and the expanse of the world around him!  Rescue hearts were crying seeing Doc’s fear of freedom from his chained and dungeon-like world.  Now… fast forward one year.  With kindness, love, and unwavering patience from DPRPA fosters and trainers, Doc has been slowly overcoming his PTSD.  Happiness is now, finally, seen in his beautiful, brown eyes!!  Many hours of mental decompression and training by professionals have been dedicated to Doc, and every minute has been worth it’s weight in gold!  Training/boarding fees do add up though, even at a greatly appreciated discounted ‘rescue rate’.  Doc desperately needed DPRPA’s rescue angels to survive not only physically but mentally as well.  Their dedication to Doc this past year has been nothing short of a miracle for him and he is getting closer and closer to finding his forever home!  Now, the dedication of our SND family toward our rescue angels is needed to assist with Doc’s training/boarding fees.  Without the knowledge of professional trainers, Doc’s rehabilitation may not have even been possible and definitely would’ve taken a much longer period of time if at all.  Can we count on you to help Doc and DPRPA?  Please remember that NO gift is ever too small, as it all adds up!  Donating is quite easy by using the USPS or PayPal.   Just click on the links to see how you can help (if using PayPal and if able, please click on the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ tabs to keep your gift ‘fee free’).  Please do it now... Our Dobes, rescue warriors and SND peeps are grateful for your help and thank you greatly for your continued generosity!!  Want see to a beautifully handsome DUDE ready to face his new happy world?  Just click right here:   https://www.doberman911.org. Kelly !!

June, 2022:  Dear, sweet baby Kelly! This gorgeous young girlie was found wandering the streets by animal control with no collar, chip or any other identification, and she can't be more than a year old!  What the ACO did immediately see was that Kelly had massive amounts of goo emanating from her eyes.   When taken to the shelter and examined by their veterinarian, the obvious diagnosis was entropion eyelids - both eyes and it looks like both upper and lower lids. There was so much crusted exudate it's hard to say until she could be examined properly.  Entropion eyelids are when the eyelids curl under and the lashes irritate the surface of the eye.  It's painful, annoying and can damage the eye to the point where vision is permanently compromised.  Poor Kelly has likely been dealing with this since birth, and it's suspected she may have already suffered irreversible visual impairment.  Now, some good news... Kelly is now in the loving arms of Doberman Pinscher Rescue, in Fillmore, California and has Ardis and her army to love her, keep her safe and get her healthy.  Entropion eyelids can be corrected by surgical intervention, and Doberman Pinscher Rescue and Special Needs Dobermans are going to make sure to Kelly has this life changing and sight-saving surgery so she can thrive.  This type of surgery is obviously delicate and pricey and it's even more so in Kelly's case because both eyes and both upper and lower lids are involved... Now, how could you possibly say no to this beautiful youngster??  Please send a donation to Special Needs Dobermans so Kelly can have her surgery as soon as possible so she won't lose even more of her precious vision - and she can run and play, happily unimpeded. I personally cannot wait to see this beautiful girl having the time of her life, happy and pain free. Be one of Kelly's Hero's! Amber !!

June, 2022:  Amber was thrown out of a moving car when her "family" was done with her.  Like so much trash… In fact, probably the kindest part of her 4 years is that they chose to throw her out right in front of the Humane Society.  Don't even get me started on them not having enough love(?) for her to walk her up the sidewalk to surrender her officially.  To make matters worse, her knees are in bad shape.  X-rays reveal both knees require TTA surgery.   Gee, I wonder how that happened?  This is crucial ligament repair, very painful.  Anyway, throwing her out with those super painful legs had to be extra torture--did they even stop to think about what they were doing?  How much it had to have hurt her?  Apparently not--but she has been saved.  Doberman Underground came to her rescue and is committed to making life good and pain-free for this little girl.  SND has joined them in this effort.  How many of you would like to show her humans can care?  Somehow she will be healed and will be the goofy red joy of a REAL family who will love her until the day she dies.  You may help make this happen by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, using the gift option helps even more!  The post office is also on the alert for helping messages!  Want to see how happy Amber's gotten already with just the promise of care?  Just click right here:   https://www.doberman911.org.   THANK YOU so much for your continued care and concern!! Jesse !!

June, 2022:  Beautiful, lovebug Jesse is one of SND’s senior girls in age only (8 – 9 yrs old).  This sweetheart came very close to losing her life due to being the aftermath of a divorce.  Her former people split up and with neither of them having a plan that included Jesse, she was headed for one of two options:  either surrendered to a high–kill shelter or euthanasia - either choice involving death. (How’s that for repayment of devotion!)  The rescue angels of High Desert Doberman Rescue, located in New Mexico, got word of Jesse’s plight and took her under their wings.  Jesse is doing well in her foster home.  She enjoys play and was actually outside playing for her foster when a bleeding paw became evident.  It is unknown how Jesse lacerated her paw, especially severe enough to need emergency treatment for debridement and suturing!  We all know emergent care is quite costly, and that is what leads HDDR to our SND family for assistance.  Loyal, deserving Jesse is said to be ‘a dream’ to have!  As Jesse heals and waits for her ‘forever home’, I’m asking that anyone who is able to donate, please do.  Please remember that NO amount is ever to small!!  A little from a lot adds up quickly!  You can click on the links included to see how to assist HDDR and Jesse.  You may use the USPS or PayPal (if using PayPal and if possible, please use the tabs ‘friends and family’ and ‘send money’ to keep you donation ‘fee free’).   Our rescues need you, our SND family, to keep them afloat to enable them to continue their missions of healing and rehoming the never ending stream of Dobermans in need.  We again thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for your graciousness and generosity!  THANK YOU!!  Beth McCahren, SND Case Manager.

Axel !!

May, 2022:  Here's some sugar to start your day!  Beautiful, sweet Axel was recently surrendered to Doberman Rescue of Nevada with a gimpy knee - which BTW, he injured over a year prior.  His now former owners were aware of his injury and kept him medicated with Carprofen, even though they knew he was in need of TPLO.  Then, it was time for his family to move, and not being a real part of that family, off Axel went to DRNV (at least it wasn't to the shelter...) bad knee and all. It's probably the best thing that's ever happened to this sweetheart.   Clan Getter and their volunteers of DRNV immediately had Axel evaluated, x-rayed, poked and prodded at their stellar veterinarian's clinic and are preparing to have Axel's knee fixed.  Although this is a rather common injury, it is VERY expensive - and has become even MORE pricey in these days of inflation and ??  This beautiful boy is only about 4 years old and in the prime of his life and surgery is his only option to live a happy, pain free life.  DRNV has asked SND for assistance in raising funds to finance Axel's upcoming surgery - which is estimated to be somewhere around $7000.00 these days!  And, that's JUST the estimate for the surgery alone!  Axel may likely need some physical therapy post-op because his injury is so old.   PT is usually needed to correct musculo-skeletal changes that occur with compensation for the damaged knee.  Won’t you please send SND a donation for Axel?  Axel is a happy, sweet and delightful Doberboy who should be running, playing and getting into happy trouble with an adoptive family that will give him the love and care he’s always deserved.  DRNV has helped so many Dobes find their homes with people who put their Dobes first, and they cannot continue their mission without our/your assistance for their expensive medical cases.  You can start helping Axel by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, using the gift option if possible.  You may also let the mail deliver.  Look at Axel's picture, and now imagine him running through a meadow - a breathtaking sight!  This won't happen until Axel has his surgery and rehab.  For now, click here https://www.doberman911.org for another look at this handsome DUDE!!  Please send your love to Axel's case fund at SND so Axel can have a happy, pain free summer of running, playing and stunning his audience.   Leslie Michell-Young, Axel’s SND Case Manager and Hesper Young (wants this guy as BF!).

Cliffy !!

May, 2022:  I have said it before and I'm saying it again, IT IS NOT THE WAY IT SHOULD BE WHEN LOSING THEIR 'HOME' SAVES A DOBERMAN LIFE!  Please meet Cliffy, our big red dog.  He lost his home at 6 years old when his family moved and didn't bother to take him.  While I'm sure he misses them - these dogs are so accepting and forgiving… being saved by Doberman Rescue of Nevada is going to give him happy years with someone who truly cares.  I fully understand life's standards changing with age, health, depression and poverty, but someone watched this boy go downhill for a long time and did nothing about it.   He is a VERY overweight 6 year old with some scary looking growths.   Two of his nipples had growths sprouting from the end, requiring removal. The skin on his hindquarters and elsewhere was completely callused and ugly.  Sores on his feet would sometimes leak blood, even on the smoothest of floors.  Because of his condition the shelter deemed him unadoptable even though he was happy and sweet--your typical "goofy red boy".  DRNV was his only option but no worries there, John and Pat would never turn him away and gathered him right into their fold.  Right now test results are pending on the masses growing in and under his calluses.  John is very good at keeping us posted so we will know something soon.  All paws crossed please!!   A thyroid panel will help in getting his weight under control no doubt.     He is so much happier already!!  Some of the bigger calluses/hygromas seem to be shrinking too!  He is so much more comfortable.  Cliff has become Cliffy.  His foster-mom says he breaks out in some serious butt-wiggle at the sound of his name!   John and Pat hope to make his appearance as outstanding as his personality, won't you join DRNV and SND in our efforts?  You can begin helping Cliffy by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, using the gift option if possible.  You may also send us mail.    Any and all help will go directly to Cliffy!  Just look at this happy face... click right here - https://www.doberman911.org.  Just look at the inset below... He may be warty like his frog now but not for long we hope!!  Thank you for supporting our SNDobies!  Dobermans are saved because of your help and I thank you for continuing to do so… Carol Belknap, Cliffy's SND Case Manager.

Carly !!

May, 2022:  Sweet Carly is the latest addition to the SND Senior Alumni Group!   She was found as a stray in the state of Michigan, and is estimated to be approximately eight years old.  She was under the care of a veterinarian for heartworm treatment, (which can be brutal on the canine patient), and because of the long ‘quiet/rest only’ periods and the extra attention heartworm cases require, the rescue angels of Doberman Underground were asked to take on Carly and her care. Even though DU knew the heartworm treatment regimen is grueling, and the treatment itself is an expensive undertaking, they quickly agreed to take Carly under their wings.  All was going well until Carly’s third heartworm treatment.  Following that third treatment, she wouldn’t eat, had a rigid abdomen and was exhibiting signs of pain.  Fearing an obstruction, she was immediately taken in for an emergency ($$$) exploratory surgery.  Luckily, no obstruction was detected, and the diagnosis became a probable blood clot.  This is not an uncommon side effect of the harsh treatment required to kill the worms - an arsenic compound.  Since being treated for the presumed clot, Carly has been doing well.  Now it’s DU’s finances that need attention!  Between the heartworm treatment and emergency surgery, the dollar signs have quickly added up.  DU has come to our SND family seeking assistance toward Carly’s vet bill, and I’m hoping we can come together to help them out.   Please remember, NO amount given is ever too small, it all adds up!!  Just click on the Paypal link on the right to donate, USPS works too!  If using PayPal, please click on the ‘friends and family’ and ‘send money’ tabs if able which will keep your donation ‘fee free’. Pumpkin !!

May, 2022:  How can anyone resist this breathtaking face?? This is - appropriately named - Pumpkin, a new and very fortunate resident of Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California. Pumpkin is only 5 months old and strangely enough, found himself on the streets with a badly fractured foreleg. How a show stopping puppy finds himself discarded on the mean streets is anyone's guess, as is the fractured leg. It's speculated Pumpkin had a confrontation with a vehicle - we'll never know. What we do know is this sweet, beautiful puppy will finally be safe with Ardis and the Army. Sadly, baby Pumpkin's fracture shattered his elbow and it's impossible to surgically correct, so the only answer is amputation... remember, this baby is only 5 months old! However, we can all be happy that this sweet boy will get the treatment he needs and all the care and love he deserves with Ardis and DPR – with your helpwe hope. While there is no shortage of love for Pumpkin with his rescuers, there is a serious financial burden. Amputation is an expensive treatment which requires extensive pre-op testing, therapies and follow up treatment. Doberman Pinscher has never failed any dog fortunate to find themselves in their company. They have faithfully treated hundreds of Dobes with serious illnesses, placing them with lucky adopters. Pumpkin will also find himself in a devoted, loving home, too. Please help Pumpkin and Doberman Pinscher Rescue by sending a donation to Special Needs Dobermans so this dear baby can be yet another success story. At SND, we are dedicated to helping rescues with pups like Pumpkin so they can continue their mission of helping all the Dobermans they can.  You can begin now - just use USPS or the PayPal button on the right!  Want to see a melt in your heart face close up?? Lulu !!

May, 2022:  This dignified senior lady (at 8 years old) needs some help. She started out as a stray. She was saved, rescued, adopted and terrorized by some Min Pins doing what they so often do, being mean.  So she came back into rescue at Dog Mountain Rescue in California, lucky girl, because they love her there!  However, lately, she has stopped dancing at her kennel door and has even become less stable on her feet.   Vestibular disease?  The dreaded Wobblers?  To make things worse she also has a lump on the top of her head.   It must be examined, we all must know what's going on with this girl.  Hopefully the two symptoms are unrelated.  Hopefully.   She will be at the specialist to suss out what may be the issue.  In the meantime DMR and SND are asking the Doberman community to help get this gallant lady through the next trial in her life… the vet bills.  Please consider helping Lulu dance again!  You may begin helping by clicking on the PayPal button to the right and using the gift option for extra savings! USPS works just fine too if you'd rather drop your help in the mail.  Thank you so much for your constant support!! Carol Belknap, Lulu's SND Case Manager.

Cyrus !!

May, 2022:  I’m in love!  Cyrus is almost three years old and as you can see, he’s the most handsome, fawn Doberguy on the planet!   He was an owner surrender to the angels of The Doberman Rescue Pack located in the state of Washington. His previous owner was going into the military and felt Cyrus would fare better by being placed with a rescue rather than staying with relatives.  That decision was a stroke of good luck for Cyrus!  Cyrus went into rescue limping and underweight.  He had skin issues as well and hadn’t seen a vet in TWO years!  TDRP saw to it that Cyrus was immediately vetted.  He received routine vaccinations along with an anti-inflammatory medication.  After ten days of medication and no improvement of the limp, further diagnostics revealed an ACL tear.  (Poor boy, who knows how long he’s been limping in pain.)  The next step is surgery by a specialist to repair the tear.  The good news is that since being under the diligent care of DRP, Cyrus is gaining weight and his skin issues are improving.  The next step is to see that Cyrus is pain free in preparation to enjoy life again and to go onto his forever home!  TDRP has just taken on another very costly foster, but that didn’t stop them from seeing that Cyrus gets the care he needs.  It does however bring TDRPack to the SND pack for assistance with the quickly mounting medical bills.  Gone are the days of $2K or less TPLO's!  Cyrus will clock in at over $5500!!  I’m asking that we SND peeps donate whatever we can to help this dedicated rescue stay solvent!  Please keep in mind that NO amount donated is ever too small!!  Even micro donations can add up very quickly!  It’s so easy to send a gift.  You can use USPS or PayPal.  Just click on the links for directions on how to how to apply your gift! (If using PayPal, please use the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ tabs, if able, to keep you gift ‘fee free’).   The Dobes, the rescues and we at SND are forever grateful for your continued generosity!  Want to see a fawn DUDE close up and in red, white and blue?? Corsa !!

May, 2022:  Beautiful Corsa comes to us due to a very tragic episode in her former household. Corsa lived with another dog, a small dog, who had a very bad habit of harassing Corsa by being confrontational and starting fights. Sadly, the last time the small dog picked a fight, Corsa fought back and the small dog had to be euthanized.  Poor Corsa - a beautiful, sweet 6 year old - has been left with injuries, suspected infections in her numerous lacerations and an eviction from her home.  Although she's been through this awful experience, Corsa remains happy... and she has more reason to be happier than ever, as the wonderful angels of The Doberman Rescue Pack in Washington state have taken our dear girl under their loving wings.  Corsa is now happily living with a foster family and doing well.  Corsa has visited her veterinarian and in addition to her wound care, she had a complete wellness exam, bloodwork and other diagnostics done. Her vet discovered a mass that well need removal once Corsa is healed from her confrontation.  So, we don't know the exact nature of the growth until it's removed and examined.  As you can surmise, this is getting expensive. Corsa should be recovered from this horrible fight soon.  The Doberman Rescue Pack is a wonderful group of volunteers that have helped many Dobermans, and now, in addition to helping Corsa, they are in a precarious financial hole - over $6K in a budget for a fledgling rescue.  Washington state hasn’t had a dedicated Doberman rescue organization in a long time and it’s critical that we help keep them working to save more Dobes!  Of course, we at Special Needs Dobermans will do all we can to help this stellar organization regain their financial strength so they can help more Dobes, no matter what their circumstances are.  Won't you help?  This gorgeous girl has a smile that warms my soul from thousands of miles away - let's keep her and her rescuers smiling by sending your contribution to SND.   Please begin by using the PayPal button on the right or by mailing your support today.  Want to see a majestic DobeLady?? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   Thank you.  Leslie Michell-Young, Corsa's Case Manager and admirer.

Roger !!

May, 2022:  Roger is a five to six year old fellow who was picked up as a stray in a rural Arkansas town in February of 2021.  The poor guy was emaciated and fortunately not returned to his owner, but instead was entrusted to the loving Rescue Angels of RUFF Tales Rescue located in Arkansas.  A local recognized him and informed RTR that Roger had lived outside his entire life.  Needless to say, that along with his emaciation, he was also heart worm positive.  But that wasn’t his only ailment at the time.  Roger was unable to gain weight and had a cough that was much worse than the ‘typical heart worm cough’.  After several months of diagnostic testing and with no measurable improvement, he was taken to an internal medicine specialist.  There, following an echocardiogram, the diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension (fluid in the lungs), was made.  Roger was placed on hypertension meds and had been doing well while on them.   He recently had a follow up on his heart and chest x-rays revealed his heart was still enlarged.  A diuretic was then begun.  That’s the history behind the current state of affairs.  Fast forward just two days and Roger began eating a lot of grass then vomiting it back up.  He was unable to keep even water down and also began exhibiting signs of pain!  With no time to waste, he was taken to be examined by the veterinarian.  Fluids were administered and an x-ray was done.  The x-ray outcome revealed his intestines were inflamed, but no obstruction was visible (yay!)  The next day follow up x-rays showed no improvement which resulted in an exploratory surgery.  Low and behold the findings were that Roger’s intestine was entrapped and the blood flow to it was cut off!!  No wonder he couldn’t keep anything down and was in pain!  The intestine was freed and the tissue viable, therefore the veterinary surgeon feels Roger will recover.  Roger does need to stay hospitalized for a few more days due to his heart condition as well as the sensitive surgery.   This is going to be a costly endeavor for RTR, however, Roger is worth every penny to be well.  The SND Nation has been asked to help Ruff Tales Rescue Angels recover from this costly undertaking (which will enable them to continue to rescue and provide services needed for future homeless and unloved Dobes).  Please remember that the amount of your non taxable gift is never too small!  And, donating is easy. You can use either USPS or PayPal.  Just click on the links to see the information that will enable you to give. (If using PayPal, please use the ‘send mail’ and ‘friends and family’ tabs if able, to keep your donation ‘fee free’.)  Thank you ever so much for your ongoing support! Your donations keep the rescues solvent! Roger, RTR and we at SND thank you in advance for your generosity.  Want to see a good-looking Roger Dodger?? Bonnie !!

April, 2022:  On April 28th, our friends at Doberman Pincher Rescue in Fillmore, California received an emergency call from a local shelter about a dear one year old Dobergirl who was bleeding out after a botched spay surgery. Poor, dear Bonnie was operated on by a student veterinarian and her internal sutures were not properly affixed, resulting in rapid bleeding into her abdominal cavity. Thank heaven, an astute shelter employee called Ardis and her angels and Bonnie was rapidly deployed to an emergency veterinary practice, where an experienced veterinarian opened her up and found a horror show! The ligatures (or lack thereof) holding Bonnie together placed by the intern were completely inadequate and Bonnie had already had leaked about a liter of blood into her abdomen... it was bad enough that Bonnie's surgeon took pictures of Bonnie's innards to illustrate how close she came to hemorrhaging and dying. Ardis and her amazing army are so very grateful for the heroic intervention of emergency veterinarians that have saved beautiful Bonnie's life. Bonnie is recovering well from her brush with death and has a bright future filled with love ahead of her. However, it has taken a HUGE outlay of financial resources to save Bonnie's life – final tally isn’t in but could be as high as $10,000! Bonnie (and Doberman Pinscher Rescue) is so fortunate that they have ready friends at Special Needs Dobermans to help raise funds to offset this crippling expense. We will do everything in the universe to help DPR defray the cost of this enormous bill, and that's where you and I come in. Please tell your friends about Special Needs Dobermans and show everyone you know beautiful Bonnie's picture and story. Doberman Pinscher Rescue cannot keep saving lives without you and your support. Send Bonnie some love and donate to her case at Special Needs Dobermans. You may begin helping by clicking on the PayPal button to the right or just mail in your help!  Bonnie thanks you, as do Ardis, her army and myself, THANK YOU!! As promised, here's BEAUTIFUL healing Bonnie!   Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager.

Hershey & Rocky !!

April, 2022:  Rocky and Hershey are a bonded pair - they are also seniors at seven plus years.  Such a good time in a Dobe's life -- or should be.  Once again their humans let them down, once again rescue was there to save them.  Their humans decided to end their engagement.   Instead of fighting to see who got the dogs, they just basically forgot about them.  Let's see, how to term this, I guess the Getters said it best, general, extended lack of care.  Oh yes, they were indoors, better care than so many forgotten dogs get… but they were crated and left in an empty house.  When someone showed up to set them free, they were free to roam the empty house and could eat as much as they could hold before going back in their crates.  Eventually their remaining owner declined to continue their "care" and surrendered them to Doberman Rescue of Nevada.  Yet again, rescue was their salvation, they were extremely obese and both had significant dental issues.  The Getters, bless their hearts, didn't hesitate to take on two oldsters, even though it might not be easy to find an adopter willing to take on two seniors at once.  So their dental issues were resolved with Rocky losing the most teeth and both of them losing enough tartar for a steak.   Rocky weighed in at 124 pounds -- definitely ready for a new diet!  Their new lives have started and they think they're in heaven!   DRNV was able to get this beautiful, playful, bonded pair into the home they deserve by making them as healthy and happy as possible.   Their new family says, "There are no words to express the absolute love we have for these dogs… thanks so much."  SND is determined to help with the cost of getting these seniors ready for that perfect life.  If you love seniors, please consider helping DRNV continue doing the great job they do so they can be ready for the next ones… and the ones after that.  You may begin helping by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, gift option helps even more!  Or just mail your help to us, it will help them both and they will know it came from you!  Thank you so much for your ongoing support of our SNDobies!  We could not do it without you, and that's a fact!! Thank you!!  Carol Belknap, Hershey and Rocky's SND Case Manager.

Roxy !!

April, 2022:  Roxy is sweet, nine year old senior lady who was adopted from a rescue six years ago.  In true Doberman form, she spent her last six years dedicated to her widowed owner.  When her owner was diagnosed with dementia, Roxy was by her side.  When her owner became terminal and eventually entered hospice, Roxy remained by her side.  But once her beloved owner passed, Roxy had no one.  Relatives were unable to take her on and the rescue she was adopted from was unresponsive to requests for help.  The grieving family contacted Doberman Rescue of Nevada, located in Las Vegas, and the DRNV Rescue Angels lovingly took Roxy into their care.  Roxy's own health had seen some decline and she had a multitude of medical issues:  awful dentition, several very suspicious lumps, possible Addison’s disease, and routine senior complications.  A comprehensive physical was performed which resulted in multiple blood tests, an abdominal sonogram, dental xrays, fine needle aspirate, antibiotics, boosters, pain meds, and an extensive dental surgery complete with extractions and cleaning as well as surgical fees.  Once she is feeling better, the dubious lumps will be biopsied.   DRNV does not turn away any Dobe based on medical needs, and as you can well guess, DRNV could use help from our SND Family with this precious senior’s large, outstanding veterinary bill.  Please remember that NO gift is ever too small and each donation is tax deductible.  Donating is as easy as 1 – 2 – 3 by using USPS or PayPal (if using PayPal please click on ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ to keep your donation ‘fee free’).  Thank you so much for all you do for the Dobes in need.  Our SND rescues and Case Managers are forever grateful for your generosity.  Want to see a proud Senior DobeLady who's feeling a lot better?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   THANK YOU!!  Beth McCahren, Roxy's SND Case Manager.

Samson !!

April, 2022:  This happy face belongs to formerly  blue, Blue Doberman, Samson.  A lovely boy who found himself in a small rural rescue in Texas that apparently was running out of room. ,Because Sam had been a resident for a while with no takers, he was in line for euthanasia... but fortunately, arrangements were made with the High Desert Doberman Rescue Angels in New Mexico to take this lovely 4 year old under their wing.  When Sampson arrived, he had a deep proximal laceration on the dorsal side of his tail that had healed, but left him with a deep scar and a “bent” tail (see the before and after insets below).  This type of injury is quite common in breeds with short, coarse coats, such as Boxers, Dalmatians and of course, Dobermans.  Often informally called "happy tail" it often results from the tail hitting a stationary object, such as a door jamb... I learned this from personal experience with my Dalmatian, who fractured his tail two separate times.  Poor Samson's scarring from this injury resulted in another deep laceration on the tail, this time on the distal side, and the decision was made to amputate his tail to prevent further occurrences of what has to be a painful injury.  Sam has had his surgery, and we have great news - he came through the operation with flying colors and he's healing quickly and without pain!  Trouble is, High Desert Doberman Rescue is a small all-volunteer operation that relies strictly on donations from the public.  Surgery is very expensive, and after Sam's interventions,  High Desert is now strapped for funds so they can continue to help other Dobes.  Have a look at this happy face and please find it in your hearts to send Special Needs Dobermans some funds so they can assist High Desert Doberman Rescue in continuing to help Dobes like Sampson.  Please begin helping by clicking the PayPal button on the right or my sending your love by mail. He still has his very happy smile and now a real Dobe nubbin that wags with joy, thanks to your continued support!  Thank you from Samson, High Desert Doberman Rescue and myself (who loves wiggly Dobes)! Renee !!

April, 2022:  I don’t know where to start so I’ll begin by asking this:  "What do you think of when you hear the word ‘cooler’?"   Me?  I think ‘picnic’, maybe ‘trip’.   But never would I put ‘cooler’ and ‘puppies’ together - not even in words!! That’s right!!  Some evil degenerates(?) put two eight week old parvo puppies, WITH CATHETERS still inserted in their weak little limbs, into a cooler and DUMPED them at a shelter!!  *In a cooler with ports still intact!*!   The ports signify they had been receiving care somewhere at one point in time!  I just can’t fathom this happening.  The shelter where the puppies were left to die in turn contacted Doberman Rescue of Nevada, located in Las Vegas, to come get the pups immediately or they would be put down.  Without hesitation, the DRNV Rescue Angels headed to the shelter to save the callously discarded, like trash, puppies, and straight to the veterinarian they went.  One puppy was unconscious, and sadly, humane euthanasia was the best option for this baby.  The second pup was lethargic, however she was attempting to move about, so beginning the parvo protocol was opted for this little one (all of four pounds).  Presently, she is in isolation in guarded condition, receiving the best care possible. Even though treatment for parvo is very very expensive, DRNV is on a mission to give this puppy the chance to live!  She has now tested negative for parvo on 3 tests - a very GOOD sign.  But, she's not out of the wood by any means and tests for distemper are pending - PLEASE keeps all your appendages crossed for this littlest angel!  Therefore, I’m asking for our SND Nation to please join together, and donate whatever amount you are able to help DRNV with this costly endeavor.  Remember, NO amount is ever too small!  Join us now... please!  Just click on the links to see how to donate your tax deductible gift.  USPS is always an option as is PayPal (if using PayPal, please click on ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ to save fees too). Andy !!

April, 2022:  How on earth does an 11 month old puppy break his femur??  This adorable puppy somehow fractured his leg in the backyard of his owners, who had raised him from just a few weeks old.  When his people went to get him back inside, they discovered Andy's leg was broken, and they had no idea how he was injured.  When he was taken to their vet, his owners were not prepared for the sudden and expensive cost to fix his leg.  He was then surrendered to Doberman Underground who have come to this little boy's rescue.  Initially, Andy's leg was splinted, but when the splint was removed, they found the bone protruding and a nasty infection.  This poor sweetie.  This meant that surgery was necessary to reset the bone and clean up the infection. Now, all eyes are watching Andy very carefully, as the infection could potentially mean that Andy could lose his leg... at only 11 months old!   Thankfully, the fantastic bipeds at Doberman Underground are no strangers to helping Dobes of all stripes regain their health and find amazing homes.  They have gone to the ends of the galaxy to help every dog in need financially, and Andy's vet bills have already exceeded $2500.00.  Our baby boy is now in the hands of a watchful and experienced foster - and with any luck, Andy will recover to become a beautiful, happy puppy that he should be.  As with all the rescues that Special Needs Dobermans helps, Doberman Underground is an all volunteer organization that relies strictly on donations, and expenses such as Andy's take a sizeable chunk out of their budget... meaning they must recoup the expenses used to help Andy in order to help other Dobes... and sadly, there will always be other injured or homeless Dobermans that need their help.  Doberman Underground has never let any of them down.  DU has come to us at Special Needs Dobermans to help raise money for Andy's expenses.  We are honored to help this wonderful organization in their mission to get every Dobe that comes their way their health and their home. I ask you to look at this precious baby's face and look into your heart.  Please send a donation to help Andy so he can enjoy a future of playing, running and being a puppy without pain.  You can begin helping Andy now too - click on the PayPal button to the right (the gift option helps the most when possible).  You may also mail in your donation.   Take a look at this boy - the hearts on his bandage say a lot!   Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   Thank you!  Leslie Michell-Young and Hesper Young, SND Case Managers.

Maverick !!

April, 2022:  The only thing positive about baby boy Maverick is that he's friendly and also willing to trust humans.  He's probably about 8 to 10 months old and may never have seen the inside of a vet's office (or a house for that matter).  He is intact and au naturel and was found wandering in a rural area.  Of course no one was with him and there was no note saying "Please take care of my dog, he's a good boy."  There were bite marks, other dogs had attacked his hind legs rather severely.  So there he was, in the middle of nowhere, alone, bleeding and limping.  What a sad, lonely picture for such a young boy.  But then he was saved by a true angel as Anthony's High Dessert Doberman Rescue who wrapped him in their arms, promising to make all things better… and they have. His bites have healed.   Just one hurdle is left before he's all better and ready for the world - heartworms.  Could have seen that bomb coming even though HW is not as prevalent here as in the southeastern states.  Well, you all know how I feel about them, they gotta go and the sooner, the better.  SND has joined HDDR in another round of worm wars.  Care to join in?  You can begin righteously smiting worms by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.  Using the gift option is good for another worm or two!  You may also mail in your help - it will all help Maverick - 100%!  Thank you so much for your continued support of our SNDobies (and for not giving up no matter how often I say the "W" word).  Thank you!!!  Carol Belknap, Maverick's SND Case Manager and determined worm warrior.

Misty !!

April, 2022:  Ten plus years old Misty is Rusty's lifelong partner, remember Rusty (he's right below)?  A very bonded pair. Luckily, Misty has not needed as much help as Rusty.  She has arthritis.  She's old and very grey.  She has a sore foot.  She has lumps and bumps - in other words, she has all the stuff that goes along with being an elderly Dober-lady.  So that makes two bonded seniors with special needs and costly food.  Not everyone wants to adopt elderly, handicapped dogs.  Not everybody appreciates senior dogs… But sometimes, destiny gets it right… One of DRNV's former adopters called. The bonded pair she had adopted years before had both passed due to age and illness.  She came in and adopted a senior lady but wanted two dogs in her household.  I personally think two is a great number when it comes to Dobes.  Too many more and someone is going to fall off the bed!  Three works too as long as someone's a snuggler… anyway… This retired Army nurse was asked if she would consider foster/hospice?  With no hesitation she agreed.   Once a nurse, always a nurse!  It's a beautiful family - and three seniors have another home!  It doesn't get much better than that, does it?  I am told it looks like a canine version of the movie Cocoon where everyone recovers the joy and playfulness that had left them as they aged.  Would you like to help Misty?  Or Misty and Rusty? Please consider joining DRNV and SND in this touching story!  I could never say enough good about Doberman Rescue of Nevada.   John and Pat are awesome people who deserve every bit of help you can give to keep their rescue solvent and running smoothly.  If you would like to help, please click on the PayPal button to the right, using the gift option.  Or drop your help in the mail, it all will find its way into the Misty Fund!  Please check in for a link to Misty's Senior Page which we will post here soon along with Rusty's and then you can send them som Senior Sponsorship love too! !Thank you, thank you! Rusty !!

April, 2022:  Rusty was a happy 2 year old back in 2013 when he was adopted from Doberman Rescue of Nevada by a loving, committed man who thought Rusty was so great he subsequently adopted a female a few months later.   This happy pack grew old together right up until the day the owner stepped into the garage for a smoke--and never came back.  He died of a massive heart attack, leaving Rusty and Misty lost… The responding officials seized the dogs and placed them in a fairly primitive animal care facility.  By the time a niece was notified, both these old dogs were declining rapidly.  Think of these two old Dober-dears and how the world must have looked through their clouding eyes, their Dad and home gone, surrounded by strangers who didn't know, or care, about their senior needs and aging bodies.  Luckily for them, once a DRNV dog, always a DRNV dog and as soon as they were notified, the Getters stepped in and stopped the madness.  Now Rusty could take a deep breath and relax.  Life was better although his health problems had been acerbated by his time in the facility.  It was an ill, distressed and depressed Rusty who returned to a DRNV, shocked and saddened by his adopter's sudden death.  Poor Rusty was a mess… Tests showed he has idiopathic megaesophagus.  Further tests showed it was not caused by myasthenia gravis (YAAY!).  Frequently fatal, megaesophagus caused him to vomit after every meal.  Luckily he had not aspirated any into his lungs, another yaay!  Imaging showed he had ingested a handful of pebbles, possibly trying to relieve his gastric distress and only making it worse. The only good thing about his vomiting was that the pebbles came out the same way they went in…:)   Good thing too as he probably would not have survived surgery.   Feeding him from a raised stand had stopped the vomiting.  The vets in charge decided to try a new treatment to improve blood flow in his neck.  But what is this 'new' treatment for vascular dilation and blood flow… hmmm…?  Oh yeah, Viagra, the little blue pill that has been making people happy for years is making Rusty one happy boy!  So the reason is different, so what, it works, right? Within a few days Rusty was happy, rambunctious and doing just fine!  DRNV and SND are working together to pay Rusty's medical expenses, won't you join in too?  You may begin helping Rusty by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, using the gift option.  Or you can mail your help, it's all good.  Thank you for caring about our precious SNDobie seniors!!!! Zeus !!

March, 2022:  When we hear the word ‘puppy’, we automatically think of a happy, playful, energetic, silly, young dog.  The image our mind creates makes us smile and think good thoughts.  And that is exactly how it should be.  But when it comes to 14 month old puppy Zeus, what we have is a young Dobe that has suffered in pain his entire life thus far.  It is believed that as a newborn, Zeus endured a trauma which injured his hip joint, causing him pain and extreme instability.     Unfortunately, with the cost of surgery being beyond his owner’s reach, her only course of action was to release him to the caring Angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Pennsylvania.  Upon his initial assessment by the orthopedic surgeon a second injury was revealed – a torn ACL!  A look at his x-ray below shows what a normal hip joint on the right looks like - then look at the left - OUCH!!  In his short life, this poor pup hasn’t yet known a pain free day!  He is now on complete bedrest to avoid any further injury to that leg, definitely a stressful time for Zeus and his caregivers, who are doing their best to keep him occupied during his total rest period.  Although further diagnostic studies are needed to determine the best course of action for treatment of Zeus’ hip injury, he immediately needs to be relieved of his knee pain by having the ACL surgically repaired.  Need I say this will be a costly intervention especially in these times - over $5K, and that doesn’t even address his hip injury.  Saving a Doberman's life hasn't always been THIS expensive!!  DPRPA is determined Zeus be given every opportunity to live a pain free, active life with his future forever family.  Therefore, they’ve come to SND for assistance in reaching that goal!  A donation of ANY amount would be greatly appreciated and NO gift is ever too small. To make a donation just click on the linkss to the right or for mail in.  If using PayPal, and if able, please click on the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ tabs to keep your gift ‘fee free’.  DPRPA and we at SND greatly appreciate your generosity in taking the steps needed to get Zeus to his new, pain free life.   One look at this gorgeous Dude's face will give you an idea why DPRPA couldn't say no.  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   Thank you, Beth McCahren, Zeus's SND Case Manager.

Draco !!

March, 2022:  What a stunning puppy!  Draco is only 10 months old and has had nothing but lousy luck.  What we know is that he was dumped on Craigslist in Washington State for public consumption at 4 months old.  He was acquired by folks who may have had the best intentions, but, between good intentions and bad judgement, Draco found himself in a world of pain six months later.  He did great with the children in the family, until unsupervised, playing on a trampoline caused very traumatic injuries.  Poor Draco had taken a very hard fall and injured his front right leg AND his left rear leg, to the point it's rendered him unable to carry his weight on the injured limbs.  Unable to economically care for his injuries, he never saw a vet in the interim and he suffered in pain and immobile for days.  Fortunately, they sought and discovered a fairly new Doberman rescue in their area - The Doberman Rescue Pack in Shoreline, Washington.  Thankfully, this wonderful  organization has taken this baby under their wings and will get him diagnosed and treated.  As yet, we do not know what the extent of long-lasting effects of Draco's injuries are.  He was seen urgently today and his vet feels his condition is due to soft tissue trauma of deep bruising.  Three weeks of crate rest and leash walking and recheck!  If it doesn't resolve, it may end up being very expensive, especially for a newer rescue with a number of dogs requiring critical veterinary care.  I applaud Doberman Rescue Pack for not only giving Draco a chance for a happy life, but for also joining us at Special Needs Dobermans in our mission to help Dobermans live the best life that can be.  Because of this wonderful group of Dobe lovers, Draco will finally find a home where he will be loved, treasured and not looked at as if he were a toy.  Special Needs Dobermans is proud to assist these rescuers in their mission to get Draco strong, happy and healthy again.  Please join the Doberman Rescue Pack, Special Needs Dobermans and myself in helping Draco with his veterinary bills – you can begin by click on the PayPal button to the right (the gift option helps the mos when possible).  You may also mail in your donation.  He needs our donations, love and support to live a healthy, long and happy life.  Thank you!  Leslie Michell-Young and Hesper Young, SND Case Manager (wishing I could adopt Draco).

Riley !!

March, 2022:  Doesn't Riley's face look as though she's asking for help? Well, help arrived--and miraculously in time, thanks to California's Doberman Pinscher Rescue.  Ardis and her Rescue Angels have this cute 1 year old girl safely in hand. She was deposited at an animal shelter to be euthanized -- or cured, if the shelter staff were able to pay a fairly big vet bill. Her owner couldn't, or wouldn't, get any help for her.  As is so often the case, being dumped by a "responsible" owner gave her a chance at life.  So, euthanasia it would have been, end of story, but caring shelter staff knew to call DPR.  Less than 12 hours after she was abandoned, she was a DPR Dobe and on her way to their skilled veterinarian for emergency surgery. You see, she had a prolapsed uterus, VERY prolapsed.  Possibly it happened when this Dober-girl (a baby herself) tried to whelp a litter. Or should I say probably??  It appeared she had been prolapsed for some time so the owners hadn't been in any hurry to help her.  Luckily for her, the tissue looks pink and has blood supply but given the duration of prolapse, complications cannot be ruled out.  Her prognosis is unknown at this time, although we will certainly be updated!  After a successful surgery (we hope!), Riley will have to remain under veterinary care for 2 or 3 days for monitoring and to boost her fluids.   DPR is doing everything they can to ensure her the best chance of recovery.  And she is now also a SNDobie so we are committed to her also… Like to help? This little girl sure could use it! To begin helping Riley, click on the PayPal button to the right (the gift option helps the most when possible).  You may also mail in your donation. Trust me, no amount of help is too small to help this little girl and this worthy rescue!  Thank you for your support! It is so important-- we couldn't do this without you!  Take a look in the eyes of this Girlie, won't you?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   Thank you, Carol Belknap Riley's SND Case Manager.

Maddy !!

March, 2022:  I just love this little girl!

Snoop !!

March, 2022:   Five year old Snoop and 2 other females were owner surrenders down in Georgia.  Lucky for them, Georgia Doberman Rescue exists.   It's never been easy or cheap to be a rescue, but it is even harder in this brave new covid world of soaring prices.  Snoop and the girls were supposedly never bred and well cared for but that was not true.  It seldom is.  When the Rescue Angels arrived the only water the dogs had in their outdoor pen was sludge.   Snoop was covered in ticks which were falling off of him in his crate during his ride to freedom.  It didn't come as any surprise to find this neglected boy is heartworm positive as well.  In spite of the horrible life he has lived these 5 years, Snoop loves people and is a total sweetheart.  These dogs never cease to amaze me, they will forgive far more in humans than I can…  I get angry.   There is absolutely no need in this day and time for any of our precious Dobermans to suffer with killer worms in their hearts.  Please consider joining GDR and SND in getting this sweetie back on his feet and ready for some forever love (that will include heartworm prevention every month).  You may begin helping Snoop by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, and by using the gift option.  You may also mail him your help--I guarantee he'll get it - ALL of it!!  Thank you for your continued support of our worm war efforts! Carol Belknap, Snoop's SND  Case Manager.

Titus !!

March, 2022: Down in Georgia, the sun burns bright and warms the backwaters of the countryside. While this paints a pretty picture there's a huge downside to the warmth of the sun. It energizes the hatch of clouds of mosquitos; the scourge of all warm blooded creatures. They are the harbingers of misery and disease - and without precautionary actions, these tiny, horrible harpies bring heartworm disease.  Stunning Titus at 5 years of age, initially found himself passed off to a woman who had another male dog in the household.  In more ways than one, this did not bode well for this gorgeous boy.  His canine housemate continually picked fights with Titus, making his life miserable, constantly on the defense, apprehensive of an ambush from his rival.  He stopped eating, which is a sure sign of a spirit about to break.  Thankfully, Titus's person surrendered him to Georgia Doberman Rescue and Titus is well on his way to the home he deserves... BUT not so fast!  Being the wonderful people they are, Titus was sent to their veterinarian for his intake exam, and was diagnosed with heartworms.   It pains one to know that this easily preventable pestilence is so prevalent.   It's endemic in southern states, yet dogs continue to suffer and succumb to this horror.  Poor Titus now must undergo the painful treatment and confinement to rid him of this deadly parasite.  I could go on about how easy it is to spare dogs of this horror as long as treatment and prevention has been around - one would think most of the civilized world care about HW prevention for their dogs.  Titus is one of the lucky ones.  Georgia Doberman Rescue has come to Special Needs Dobermans for help in financing Titus's heartworm treatment, and our combined efforts will save Titus's life.  Join us and help this gorgeous boy regain his health AND help the good people of Georgia Doberman Rescue help more Dobermans in need.  Please begin helping Titus by clicking on the PayPal button to the right OR you can always mail in your help.   The Worm Wars continue!!  Thank you from Titus, Georgia Doberman Rescue, Special Needs Dobermans and myself... and feast your eyes on this breathtaking boy.  Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager ( who cannot take her eyes off this guy)!

Alice !!

March, 2022:  Imagine coming home from work and finding not 1 but 2 Dobes in your yard?  Most of us would just figure we'd been very good and were being rewarded, but not everyone feels that way…. go figure.   The woman who was that lucky turned them over to sweet Melissa and her band of Rescue Angels of Bluegrass Doberman Rescue, who always feel blessed by more and more Dobes finding them.  Three year old Alice and her mate Cooper (you'll meet him right below) were very skinny and - guess what?  Heartworm positive!  Well, we can't have that!  Must kill more worms!  Alice is very sweet but anxious.   Life is not what she has always known it to be, including the fact that she won't have to play Momma-dog anymore.  It's taking a little getting used to, having this wonderful new life.  She isn't used to stuff like food and blankets and toys.  I guess she truly is in Wonderland!  She's learning to walk on a leash but it takes a long time to get anywhere since she has to sniff absolutely EVERYTHING!  She is learning so much new stuff!  Today she sat on a toy that sings and she had to go room to room looking for who was singing.  Like so many Dobes, she gets along with all dogs and cats.  Once these horrible worms are gone and she knows the world is a safe place, she is going to make someone a wonderful, sweet, loving girl.  Want to help her get there?  Join BDR and SND in helping her!  You may begin helping Alice by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, selecting the gift option helps even more!  USPS works too, you can mail your help!   As always, I am so very grateful for your continued support of our SNDobies and so glad you have joined our Worm Wars - on the winning side of course!    Want a look at Alice in Wonderland (a cage-free lawn :) ?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  THANK YOU!  Carol Belknap Alice's SND  Case Manager.

Cooper !!

March, 2022:  Next I bring you 5 year old Cooper, Alice's partner in Wonderland.   Like Alice, he's very thin and heartworm positive.  Like Alice he is in the so very capable hands of Bluegrass Doberman Rescue and Melissa will fix him up and get him ready for a new life with a real family that loves him.  Cooper loves head and booty scratches.   As I sit here rubbing my Stella's butt, I am glad he has someone to do the same for him.  Every Dobe deserves loving butt rubs!   He really likes to feel the wind blowing his ears around, it's one of his favorite things.  Both he and Alice are very proper dogs - they sit with their arms crossed.  Cooper's Foster-Mom is amazed - he actually has an "off switch" (which she wishes her own dog had come equipped with).  He is crate trained like a pro (goes along with the "off switch") and is going to make someone a fantastic Dobe once we have killed some more worms!  Please join BDR and SND in getting him ready for a forever family!  You may begin helping Cooper by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, using the gift option helps even more.  You can always mail in your help, the USPS is on our side.   I really don't know how to thank you for your continued support of our SNDobies and especially for your support in these Worm Wars!   Thank you from the bottom of my heart!  Carol Belknap, Cooper's SND Case Manager.

Bridget !!

March, 2022:  This sweet girl is Bridget!  She was rescued from an animal shelter by the Rescue Angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue located in Fillmore, California, after her stray hold had passed and she remained unclaimed.  Bridget’s appearance didn’t fit the bill of what most people think of when they think ‘Doberman.’  She was overweight, was obviously bred numerous times and although she’s guessed to be only about three years old, she looks as if she’s lived a rough life. The DPR Angels saw the ‘true’ beauty in Bridget and vowed to get her out of the shelter, into their rescue and eventually into a loving home.  Upon arriving at the rescue, it didn’t take long to see that Bridget also had a medical problem called entropion.  This is a condition the causes the eyelid(s) to roll inwards and rub the surface of the eye.  It’s a painful problem that often leads to inflammation, infections and ulcers, which left untreated, can cause scarring, blindness and in severe cases, even the loss of the eye.  Just imagine how it would feel if your eyelashes rubbed your eye 24/7!!  Fortunately, only her left eye was involved.   This was a surgery that couldn’t be put off as Bridget had suffered long enough already.  The surgery was provided and I’m happy to announce Bridget is healing well.  DPR never turns away a Dobe because it has a medical problem, therefore they often have several at a time that are being treated for extraordinary issues.   This is why DPR has come to us fellow SNDoberman lovers for assistance with Bridget’s surgery.  Won't you join us?  Remember, NO gift is EVER too small!  And, donating is a snap!  You can use the USPS or PayPal (if using PayPal and if able, please click on the tabs ‘friends and family’ and ‘send money’ to keep your gift ‘fee free’.)   The rescues, Dobes and of course our SND family thank you for your gracious and continued generosity!!   Beth McCahren, SND Case Manager.

Gable !!

UPDATE - February, 2022Remember Gable? The beautiful but terrified boy who was confiscated from hell last August?  I hope you do because he is still an SNDobie and his problems are not over yet even though his heartworms are gone.  While in hell, he lived in a 3' x 4' kennel for three plus years.  Over the years he wore his teeth down biting at the hated fence.  Although all of his teeth are worn down, 3 are broken with the roots still in his jaw.  He has been on strong pain meds but they need to come out soon!  The surgical intervention needed to remove these roots will NOT be cheap - specialty surgery = BIG BUCKS - and in the time of COVID, everyone's prices are going through the roof.  And if that's not bad enough, the major pain he has is hindering his behavioral rehabilitation.  He is still a very fearful dog who certainly does not deserve the hand he's been dealt in his short life so far!  The dental surgery is happening! Also, while he is under sedation his hips and spine will be X-rayed.  He has very little muscle in his hind end, raising fears of the onset of Wobblers.  Please wish the best for him! Please think about helping Doberman Pinscher Rescue of PA and SND continue helping Gable! He still needs you!
November, 2021
:   Back in August, over 100 dogs were confiscated by Animal Control down in Louisiana, 40 of those were Dobermans.  They were mostly under 4 years old.  Six Doberman Rescues worked hand in hand to save them all.  You may remember the event... This is the story of one of them.  Meet Gable, he traveled over 1200 miles to find sanctuary with Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Pennsylvania's Rescue Angels.  Gable was very thin, flea and heartworm infested.  He also is very timid and afraid.  Hands hurt -- or they used to anyway.  He still has to learn the difference between then and now.  He is doing well in his foster home and they cherish the breakthrough moments when he is able to overcome his fear and timidity for a few precious moments.  This poor angel is terrified of everything - windows, doors, the garage, you name it.  When he perceives anything he feels is a threat, he will hide in a corner and shake.  He always has one foot lifted to run from everything his life has taught him.   We have more than heartworms to kill, we have those demons to dispel and fears to calm.  Our species did this to him, and it is going to be us that fixes him.  Although they are continually speaking softly, reassuring him he is now safe forever and no hand will ever hurt him again - he needs more.  Please consider joining DPRPA and SND in healing this sweet boy inside and out.  You may begin helping Gable by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.  Using the gift option even saves the fees.  USPS works too, it's what I do!  Don't forget to include Secret Santa in your gift, doubling it!!!  Thank you so much for helping yet another deserving SNDobie!!!  Want to see what a beautiful butterfly Gable will become?   Here's a glimpse into his future!  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  Carol Belknap, Gable's SND Case Manager and fan.

Buddy !!

February, 2022:  Buddy is a handsome Doberman of approximately 4-5 years old.  Buddy was picked up in Albuquerque, New Mexico after being hit by a car. His right rear femur and pelvis were fractured and needed immediate surgery to repair. A femoral head osteotomy was performed. His left lower canine was also splintered. The Rescue Angels of High Desert Doberman Rescue worked tirelessly with the shelter to ensure Buddy would receive the needed surgery on site and also recover there. HDDR picked Buddy up from the shelter as soon as he was able to leave and he was transferred to their trainer for physical rehabilitation and socialization and finally a foster home. Unfortunately he was returned by the foster due to family medical issues and demands. Once Buddy was back with rescue, they noticed a large lump in the top of his head. When the temporary foster was asked about this lump they offered no insight as to how long it had been there or how quickly it had grown. This type of growth is very concerning so Buddy was scheduled for x-ray and probable bone biopsy yesterday, 2-25-2022 at HDDR’s trusted vets. More will be known with follow-up after the vet reviews the results of the x-ray and biopsy. This lump could very well be the result of the trauma sustained when Buddy was hit by the car, and hopefully nothing worse than that. He seems to be a very sweet, happy boy and hopefully with the HDDR Angel Anthony, Buddy will make a full recovery and make some family a wonderful companion. But right now we need your help with Buddy's vet care. Help us restore Buddy to health and happiness while also helping HDDR so they can continue to help other Dobermans!  You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or by mailing in a donation.   And as always thank you and bless you for all you do to help Dobermans!  Want a look at TWO handsome Dudes?  That would be Buddy's best BUDDY and his HDDR Angel Anthony...   Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  THANK YOU!  Nancy Harwood, SND Case Manager for Buddy!

Chester !!

February, 2022:  This beautiful, endearing Gent is Chester, and he's well known as the senior diplomat at Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California. Chester has been a resident for more than six years, having originally come from a shelter. Chester holds the important office of helping new residents of Doberman Pinscher Rescue acclimate and feel at home. Although he's never been an extrovert around people, he adores canine company and has gone above and beyond to make the new residents feel safe and happy. He is a dear old soul (look at that face...) and is loved by both volunteers and the dogs alike. Recently, our good boy presented with a swollen toe, so he was whisked off to the veterinarian - who suspected an infection and ordered a round of antibiotics. Unfortunately, Chester's toe became worse, so it was off to the vet once again. Now, it's suspected that this may be a nail bed melanoma, and dear Chester had his toe amputated. The tissue has been sent to pathology, and there's no news as yet...but it was the best course of action and Chester is recovering well. No one knows Chester's history - he is stoic and sweet and adores all dogs. He's a major asset to Ardis and her army, as he's made countless dogs happy and comfortable at a very scary point in their lives. He is a gentle old man who considers his mission of utmost importance (which it obviously is...) and he's made both Ardis's life and those of the volunteers easier... in fact, he could be considered a volunteer himself. As you know, Ardis saves more Dobermans than almost all the stars in the sky it seems, and DPR has asked the help of Special Needs Dobermans.  Won't you join the DPR Army?  You may begin by clicking on the Paypal link on the right - choose the ‘family and friends’ tab and the ‘send money’ tab to keep your gift fee free. You can also use the USPS if you prefer - it's always fee-free!  There are many, many Dobermans that are living healthy, happy lives with their very own people because of the work DPR's Army and the volunteers, including Chester, do. He's an extraordinary Dobe and we need YOUR help to continue his very important work.  Just know that Chester, DPR and we at SND will be forever grateful, as will I. Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager and Chester's admirer.

Mimosa !!

February, 2022:  This little beauty is Mimosa and is guessed to be approximately two to three years old.  Mimosa is another DD (Darling Doberman) who was on the streets of southern California trying to fend for herself until the day she luckily (and yes, you read that right – luckily) wound up in the San Bernardino City animal shelter with the label of ‘Stray.’ Mimosa was in TERRIBLE shape!  Her condition was so dire she stayed at a private veterinarian’s office during her stray hold because it was actually too dangerous to house her in the shelter atmosphere!  In fact, the vet recommended she get the ‘blue cocktail’ even before her stray hold was up!  Mimosa is so sweet, the shelter’s rescue coordinator begged for one more day to try to find a rescue that would take on a very likely costly case.  This is where Dobies and Little Paws of Fillmore stepped up to the plate - as they have been wont to do (thank goodness!!).   What they found was an emaciated, terrified Mimosa who was in extreme pain and who weighed only 35 pounds (40 pounds under weight).   She had a respiratory infection, a swollen eye and an old hip injury.  Since the hip injury wasn’t fresh, and at this point Mimosa wasn’t healthy enough for surgery anyway, the hip was put on hold until her overall condition stabilized.  To date, Mimosa is improving.  Her eye has healed, her respiratory infection is gone, her pain is under control and she’s put on 20 pounds (only 20 more to go)!  Mimosa’s hip prognosis is good and she was stable enough to have the Femoral Head Osteotomy she needed Friday the 18th.  However, following surgery and recovery, it will take months for the atrophied muscle to become strong again.  As you can guess, the dollar signs on this case are adding up rather quickly, which is why DLP Rescue has come to our SND family to assist them in getting this sweetie back on track again!  NO donation is ever too small and it’s easy to give! Just click on the ‘family and friends’ tab and the ‘send money’ tab to keep your gift fee free. You can also use the USPS as well.  We know that with your help, we can get Mimosa healed, heathy and with a family of her own who will cherish and protect her always.   Want a glimpse of a beautiful Mimosa waiting to bloom fully??   Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  In advance, we and the dedicated rescues THANK YOU ever so much for your continued generosity toward our SNDobes!  Beth McCahren, SND Case Manager for Mimosa!

Faith !!

February, 2022:  Faith, a 10 month old, Dobe Girl was found wandering the mean streets as a stray. On intake at an animal shelter, it was noted Faith was unable to use her front leg and x-rays confirmed her leg was fractured or, actually, shattered (see inset below). She had been at the shelter since January 31, 2022 and weighed in at only 42 pounds.  Obviously, her owner didn't keep her secure and safe or allowed her to run free only to be severely injured and didn't care enough to find her and get her veterinary help.  Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Filmore, California was notified by a very caring staff member at the shelter and having spent time with Faith declares her to be “a very sweet girl.”   DPR picked her up on her first available day and are continuing her pain management until surgery can be done.  Chances are her leg will have to be amputated due to the severity and the number of fractures of the humerus are involved.  At her young age, she will certainly adapt and most importantly, she will no longer be in pain!   How anyone can care so little for a 10 month old puppy to not at least seek some type of help is beyond my (and if your reading this, your) scope of reason!  All this owner would have had to do was to call a rescue or, at least, take her to a shelter. My faith in humankind is seriously shaken each time I read something like this.  The RescueAngels at DPR certainly restore it some of that faith... in Faith!   This baby needs your help as do our Angels at Doberman Pinscher Rescue. So, again I ask, please help Faith so she can know a loving family who won't throw her out like yesterday’s garbage.  You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or mailing in your donation.  Faith deserves a happy life so PLEASE HELP and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  Want a poignant look of a young DobeGirl stoically bearing her pain?  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   Thank you! Ryland !!

February, 2022:   A long time ago, when Ryland was pulled from a shelter to find himself at Doberman Pinscher Rescue in California, he was the personification of youth and Doberman athleticism.  He could dance, he'd scale fences.  He was a handful of happy energy - so much so that it took a while for his Rescue Angels to find him a home, given that he was so powerful and robust.  Now, three years later, Ryland found himself once again at DPR, and to state that he's in rather poor condition is a profound understatement.  Poor Ryland, at the age of around 8 years, had a mouth so full of infection and inflamed gums it was a wonder if he could even stand to eat.  Everyone knows when they have a dental issue it exceeds any description of how much it hurts and how desperately they're summoning the dentist...  I'm relieved to report that Ryland found himself once again with DPR and after multiple extractions, things are looking up for our boy, in more ways than one. It's thought Ryland's dental problems may be more of a genetic issue (yes, I am all too familiar with bad genes when it comes to teeth) than outward neglect - although, if a regime of good oral hygiene had been undertaken by his former owners, it could have very possibly spared this sweet boy's pain.  On top of that, it's suspected our boy may have some spinal issues. This is very sad, too... a handful of years ago, he could sail over fences...  DPR ferried our boy to their veterinarian immediately where he spent three days on pain medication before the removal of most of his teeth.  His canines and incisors were able to be saved, but he has only one of his molars left.  Now that he's an honorary member of the Toothless Backwoods Club, our Red Ryland no longer sings the blues!  Colleen reports that he's so happy he's dancing around and makes everyone near him smile.  He will be watched carefully to evaluate his back pain, but nothing conclusive has been diagnosed at this time.  Ryland is yet another story the angels at DPR have turned into a happy outcome.   I can't count how many Dobes they have saved, and suffice it to say their dedication, perseverance and love for our breed exceeds imagination.  It also takes money.  Lots of it.  Our friends at DPR have come to Special Needs Dobermans for assistance in paying for Ryland's lofty veterinary bills, and we're happy to help and we hope you’ll join us!  Have a look at this sweetheart of a boy and please send your donation to SND so Ryland gets to know the tooth fairy.  No amount is too small, but the gratitude is infinite, because Red Ryland's not singing the blues anymore!  You can begin helping Ryland by making a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button on the right or by mailing in a donation.  Want a closer look at a still very handsome DUDE??   Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  Thank you from Ryland, Doberman Pinscher Rescue, SND and me, Leslie Michell-Young and Hesper, SND Case Managers and Ryland's Cheerleaders!

Fred !!

January, 2022:   When Fred was 6 1/2 years old his owner died.  Fred and his brother Lou lived in an all season sun porch with a dog door giving access to a farm.  Farm dogs, pure and simple. The owner's family lives out of state so after his death, a nice neighbor was helping out the dogs.  I see that in my mind as coming by and dropping some kibble,  I could be wrong.   At one point the neighbor told the family Fred had a hurt leg, but, as I said, they were out of state…  Eventually Fred and Lou made their way to Bluegrass Doberman Rescue where they wound up separated due to a brotherly difference of opinion.  Life in that sun porch must have been interesting to say the least…  Anyway Sweet Melissa got her hands on them and she and her Rescue Angels have them well in hand.   X-Rays showed Fred had a break in a very difficult spot,  on his femur, just above his knee.  Off to a specialist for more X-Rays and his opinion.   His opinion was that this is a somewhat healed break, also that a break there is usually only seen in puppies.   He can't figure out how Fred broke it just right there.   While they aren't ruling out cancer, it is unlikely and that's a good break compared to the fracture. They basically gave Melissa 3 choices - operate, let it go and see what happens, or amputate.  So Fred had his surgery today and Melissa will let us know the outcome soon.   I wish this sad boy only the best, don't you?  If you'd like to join BDR and SND in helping Fred you can click on the PayPal button to the right (using gift option works best).  You can also mail one in, it all works.  Never think your help is too little to matter - it all matters and it ALL helps! Opal !!

UPDATEOpal's first TPLO surgery has been completed and she is recovering wonderfully!!  If the imposed R&R helps the less damaged knee enough, perhaps a second surgery can be avoided.  If not, she'll once again be asking for your help!  Keep your good thoughts flowing for Opal and THANK YOU!!
January, 2022
:   I’d like to introduce you to three years young Opal, who is currently in the loving care of Dog Mountain Rescue, located in Willits, CA.  Opal was surrendered by her owner who stated she was being evicted by her landlord because she owned a Doberman.  There’s more to this story… Opal is said to have jumped off of a low sand dune and landed with ‘all four legs twisted up’ which resulted in a leg injury.  As with all rescue intakes, Opal was taken to DMR’s veterinarian for an overall evaluation and lo and behold Opal has not one, but TWO injured knees, both requiring TPLO surgery!!  TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) is a surgery performed on dogs suffering from a ruptured or torn ACL.  We all know that the words ‘ruptured’ and/or ‘torn’ both equal PAIN, therefore, Opal is destined to be on the operating table.  The critical eight weeks post TPLO requires strict confinement (hard for a Doberman) for the shin bone (tibia) to heal and up to six months to be able to resume normal activity. Talk about a long and drawn out recovery!  And poor, barely out of puppyhood Opal has to endure TWO TPLO’s.  TPLO surgery is not only hard on the animal requiring the procedure, but hard on the pocketbook as well.  A single TPLO operation is costly for any rescue but here we have two of them for one Dobie.  We can all give DMR a hand in helping Opal have her surgeries to get back to a normal, pain free life which will ultimately, in time, take her to her forever home!  Just click on the links below to see how you can help. And remember, NO donation is ever too small.  From the bottom of our hearts, DMR, SND and all of the Dobes that you all have helped thank you for your continued support!!   You can begin helping Opal by using the PayPal button on the right or by mailing in a donation.  Want to see a Blooming Beauty? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   THANK YOU!! Beth McCahren, SND Case Manager for Opal!!

Ralphie !!

January, 2022:   Here comes good looking, goofy Ralphie, brought to you by the broken record duet of Melissa and me… The Heartworm Queens!   No, he won't be the last, but he is the one that matters today!   And, of course, he does matter!   Ralphie is a stray from the South, and they all seem to come with da worm, don't they? At only 2 years or so old, he has so much life to live yet and thanks to the Bluegrass Doberman Rescue Squad, will get to live it with some special family (like you?).  Since we can't tell you anything about his past, except for the worms, we'll talk about him, ok?  High on his "fun facts" list is his Velcrobility, which is in the most sticky ever range.  I realize that is not new or a surprise, but to me it never gets old.  Love it!  Next are his snuggles--he loves to snuggle, but only on his terms!  He's great in a crate and really loves his blankies.  Wonder if he ever had one before… after all, he started out somewhere.  He's happily at home with a "Princess" of a red Dober-girlie and a little fluffy dog who has become his best friend.  I'm guessing this boy would have no trouble finding his place in a forever home--as long as it has bones, his favorite chew!  Lastly, this cutie patootie falls asleep at night with his paws over his eyes.  I'd love to see that… So Sweet Melissa and her band of Rescue Angels will not stop bringing home heartworm cases and I will not stop bringing them to you.  Really--I won't stop and you know it!  We won't stop while worms live and thrive in the hearts of our wonderful dogs.  BDR and SND will help him. Like to help Ralphie yourself? You can click on the PayPal button to the right, or you can mail your help right to us.  As always and forever, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your continued support of our SNDobies and the Worm Wars!  Carol Belknap, Ralphie's SND Case Manager.

Rhett !!

January, 2022:   Meet Rhett, a two year old red boy who has had quite an awful life so far.  He came from the hoarder/breeder fiasco in Louisiana last year and was one of 40 Dobermans out of 100 dogs seized.   This isn’t the only Dobe saved by Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Pennsylvania either.  The DPRPA Angels also spoke for some of the Dobes seized and listed one named Gable, a heartworm positive case, last November.  HW+, surprised? NOT!  Along with his many physical problems Rhett has some behavioral problems as well that his foster mom eased somewhat but some are really deep-rooted.  Rhett was brought into rescue in August of 2021, very thin (53 pounds) , badly overgrown toenails and a terribly scarred coat - some of this probably from poor nutrition and neglect.  After all this time, he is still a flight risk and needs two leashes at all times no matter where he goes.  Running in fear - trying to outrun his past torture I'm sure!  Before coming to DPRPA his world consisted of nothing other than what he could see from a cage, maybe 20 feet in any direction. The only human contact he had was at feeding time which, at 53 pounds, wasn't very often, or when he was taken out to service a female.  This is just so sick it makes me cry!  Rhett has been in a foster home since he came into rescue and his wonderful foster mom has brought him a long way, but he just can't seem to put the past life of horror behind him without professional help.  This poor soul trembles at the slightest touch and will freeze at loud noises and slink along the ground if someone gets too close.  SND has helped with so many physical problems in getting Dobes to an adoptable state, Rhett’s mental challenges are as real as any physical one and is a serious impediment to a happy future for him.  DPRPA, with the help of behavioral specialists at Instinct Training Center, want Rhett to have the best chance he can to hopefully help him adjust to normal life. This is an intensive resident re-training program and can cost upwards of $1K per week!  But, the staff at Instinct are so smitten with Rhett that they are giving DPRPA a really good discount.  The only drawback is that it could take months for him to be ready for an adoptive home and at least initially, he needs at least one month.  No animal deserves the kind of treatment Rhett has endured, and it would be a horrible thing if he was never able to live a normal life.  Sooo... once again, here we are asking our treasured supporters to help us with this deserving boy.  Please donate what you can and tell friends and relatives about Rhett's plight and the wonderful people at DPRPA who refuse to give up on these sweet babies.  You can begin helping Rhett by making a make a tax deductible donations by using the PayPal button on the right or by mailing in a donation.   For now, please look at Rhett's scarred face and see the beauty others have seen - we're rooting for our new CoverDude and hope you'll see what we all see - Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!  Nancy Harwood, SND Case Manager rooting for Rhett!!

Myrtle !!

January, 2022:   Those who know Dobermans know that with time, there is beauty. Some long ago day, Myrtle was once a spellbinding beauty, but sadly that was a long time ago. This sweet girl was dumped in a shelter drop box without so much as a note or phone call alerting the shelter of her presence... probably because they were too ashamed (or not) to walk in with her looking so poorly. Myrtle is a red girl; perhaps 10 years old or more. She has very little of her coat left; she is so thin that it's suspected she's lost muscle mass and she has some hind end weakness. She also drinks large amounts of water and we're hoping she's not diabetic or has Cushings disease. Ardis and her elite army at Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California have stepped up to the plate for this sweet, beautiful girl and are waiting to set up an appointment with their veterinarians to get Myrtle's life back on track. It's hoped by all of us that her physical problems are a result of emaciation and with vast quantities of tasty, nutritious groceries, some vitamins and lots and lots of love, Myrtle will be dancing happy dances. There are so many of us that have lost our beautiful Dobermans at a young age - it's so very difficult to imagine how anyone can abandon such an alluring and beautiful DobeLady in her senior years. But, Myrtle is very lucky - she has found, Ardis’ Army and Myrtle will be loved and treasured once she's feeling (and looking) better. Rehabilitating a dog in Myrtle's condition is not easy and it comes with great expense - special food, supplements, medicated baths and close monitoring - and that doesn't include periodic vet checks for progress toward wellness. We have to thank DPR for their dedication and perseverance. One cannot count the dogs that they've brought back from the brink. Please send a donation to Special Needs Dobermans to benefit Myrtle; she so needs your dollars and your love...and while you're at it, please give Ardis and her army a standing ovation for their tireless dedication to Dobes - the best dogs in the universe. Fergie !!

January, 2022:   In the pictures, Fergie seemed to be a very well cared for, cropped and docked, 10 year old female.  It was such a sad story, her people were getting divorced and she no longer had a home.  Not exactly a new story and Saving Dobermankind Animal Rescue did not hesitate to set up transport to receive this senior lady.  When the family dropped off their beloved old girl to Highway Hounds in Texas for transport, she was wearing a sweater and they were very sad about losing her.  After they left the transporters removed the sweater and things got a whole lot sadder.  Removing the sweater revealed the shape she was really in--and it was not good.  Here is another dog whose life will only get better after losing her home.  Another darling senior who devotedly loved the people who were hurting her and obviously neglecting her.  I really hope this offends and outrages you as much as it does me!  Under the sweater were various cuts and scrapes, along with numerous lipomas.  She has a large open wound on one foot which they assumed at first was the reason that leg was swollen to 3 times the size it should be.  She has a skin infection.   This poor lady-dobe has probably been in pain and misery for quite a while - the divorce was a very good thing! I hope neither owner ever gets another dog!  As soon as SDAR got her from the transport, she went directly to one of their vets who began to treat her skin infection and flea infestation. Poor girl!  Then came an appointment with an oncologist as her leg swelling remained the same.  X-rays show a mass under the muscle causing the leg swelling.  Hopefully it is only another lipoma whose removal will cure the lameness and swelling.   If it turns out to be more than a lipoma, SDAR will be with her for that too.  She also needs at least one fractured tooth removed and one of the lipomas is suspicious enough for a needle aspiration.   All in all, Fergie is going to have a rejuvenating re-do and in the nick of time too!  This is not free and SND has joined SDAR in making all of this rejuvenation possible.  Please help us make this happen as you have so many times before!  These people were lucky enough to have this sweet senior and they most definitely did not love and treasure her -- it's up to all of us to value her life enough to help her.  You may begin helping Fergie by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, the gift option even saves the fees!   USPS works too--it just delivered a check from me!  Try it!  As always I thank you most sincerely for your continued support of these wonderful SNDobies!!  We couldn't do it without you!!! Ursula !!

January, 2022:   Ursula is a California DD (Darling Doberman) who was picked up as a stray by Animal Control. Upon intake at the local shelter, it was noticed by the shelter staff that Ursula was left-leg lame. The medical team was notified and the shelter vet examined her estimating her age at approximately four years old, and with their limited testing ability, guessed Ursula osteosarcoma was possible. This decision meant she could be released to ‘rescue only’ to assure she would receive the proper diagnostics to determine her true diagnosis and also enable her to have the necessary follow up care.  At this point, enter the Rescue Angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue located in Fillmore. Ursula was released to their care and examined and x-rayed by their own veterinarian. The x-rays were inconclusive, however their vet concurred that sadly, Ursula may have bone cancer.  Another x-ray will be done in two weeks to determine any changes to the suspicious area.  At that time decisions will be made regarding options and/or treatment(s).   Ursula isn’t the only medical case DPR currently has, therefore they have come to SND for assistance.  Wouldn’t it be fulfilling to start your New Year with a donation to help Ursula? NO gift is ever too small and every penny will go to DPR for Ursula’s needs.  Just click on the links to read how you can be a hero for Ursula!  USPS is one way to donate, and PayPal is also accepted (if using PayPal and if able, please click on the ‘friends and family’ tab as well as the ‘send money’ tab to keep your donation ‘fee free’).  It is because of ALL of YOU, our SND supporters, that the many dedicated Doberman rescues are able to save so many lives!  We at SND as well as the rescue community are eternally grateful for your willingness to help our DD’s! Star !!

January, 2022:   Not such a Happy New Year for Star! Star is a beautiful red boy 2-3 years old who was found on December 9th by a man in central California. This gentleman found Star abandoned on his ranch.  He was emaciated, had a serious injury to his face and also a pretty bad limp.  He contacted Doberman Pinscher Rescue about this boy, thankfully!  In the meantime, this man took the dog to his own vet for an exam and to obtain antibiotics  The consensus was that Star had been shot in the face, yes I said SHOT IN THE FACE!  They came to this conclusion due to the entry and exit holes which made it apparent that a bullet had passed through his cheek.  Star arrived at DPR a few weeks after being found by our Good Samaritan when DPR took him to their vet for neutering and diagnostics pertaining to his facial wound.  Under anesthesia, it was found that a tooth had been shattered and the bullet had damaged his jaw causing a deep infection inside his jawbone.  Diagnosis/Prognosis: Though Star's exterior wound has mended nicely (see the thumbnail here and his larger Home Page picture), the prognosis on the damage to his jaw is still unknown.  The vet recommended that Star needs to remain on strong antibiotics and be seen again in a few weeks for another x-ray. This type of injury can't always be fixed because the jaw bone "may waste away."  We are hoping this will not be the case for Star.  He is so young, hopefully this will work in his favor as far as healing goes as it did for the damaged soft tissue.  Star certainly deserves better than he has received in his short life and we know Ardis and DPR will do everything possible to help heal this beautiful boy!  But they cannot do it without your help.  Obviously this is going to be costly and it is raining Dobermans in all rescues with them depleting their finances.  We are counting on you to help us help all these rescues and the wonderful Dobermans they save daily.  Thank you for all you do to help.  Bless you all. You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or by mailing in your donation  - and, don't forget to share Star's story with all your dog loving friends and family!  Want to see Star's 5-star healing job on that handsome face?   Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  THANK YOU. Vogue !!

January, 2022:  This poor beauty has a saga behind her that would do justice to a horror show.  Vogue was dumped at Georgia Doberman rescue after an unsuccessful ear crop when one of her ears became infected. GDR, being the wonderful rescue and haven that they are, took care of Vogue's ears, had her spayed and did all the preliminary vetting routinely given their charges, and subsequently adopted this dear girl out this past Sunday. Sadly, Vogue started feeling unwell and began vomiting on Monday, so the new adopters took her to their veterinarian who diagnosed her with whip worms - something easily treatable with panacur - but Vogue's new family didn't want to pay for her treatment and promptly abandoned her at the vet's. She was taken to another veterinarian by GDR... this clinic felt Vogue had bloat, but did not have the staff on hand to perform surgery, so she was transported to the emergency vet hospital. The emergency staff evaluated her and decided that this poor girl did NOT have bloat, but had a condition called intussusception.  This is a condition where part of the intestine folds into the section ahead of it. This disorder requires a tricky abdominal surgery much like bloat does and in many cases, is just as risky - not to mention expensive.  Poor baby girl. She has faced more rejection and illness in one week than most see in a lifetime but now she will have everything she needs from Georgia Doberman Rescue that she could possibly need to recover.  As bloat was ruled out, It was decided to proceed with a barium study to confirm the diagnosis after a period of observation when she was treated with fluids and round the clock observation. This was a good conservative approach and we subsequently received some wonderful news!   Vogue's intussusception corrected itself without surgical intervention and she is recovering!!  We are very happy to hear this and congratulate the beautiful girl on her improvement... HOWEVER, Vogue's substantial bills and care still remain, and those bills are BIG.  Georgia Doberman Rescue nearly exhausted their veterinary funds in getting Vogue's condition evaluated - meaning they have precious little for Vogue's follow up care AND not much to help other deserving Dobes.  Please find it in your hearts to donate to Special Needs Dobermans to help Georgia Doberman Rescue recover financially from Vogue's very scary illness.  You can begin by making your tax deductible donation by using PayPal or mailing in a donation.  Every cent will go to paying Vogue's bills - AND you can do a happy dance knowing how much your help helps SND bring Dobes back to health!  Thank you from Vogue, SND, Georgia Doberman Rescue, Hesper and me, Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager - Happy Dancing with Hesper!!

Aaron !!

December, 2021:   It is an honor to introduce dear Aaron, a beautiful year-old baby originally from south of the border. Aaron was transferred from a rescue in Juarez, Mexico to the loving hearts of High Desert Doberman Rescue in New Mexico just before Christmas Eve. By looking at his pictures, one would never know this beautiful little pumpkin has so many problems... Poor Aaron not only is heartworm positive (surprised?), he has suspected cardiac issues perhaps due to his HW infestation – and, if that weren't enough, he also has some very concerning seizures.  Not that it would have made a difference, these issues were not shared (if they were known) by this rescue there.  It is very, very fortunate that Anthony and his angels at HDDR now have this baby under their care. He was immediately taken to their trusted vet where his seizure medication was changed from gabapentin to keppra and the seizures are now all but gone.  Aaron has additional appointments in the coming week to address the HW and to investigate the cause of his cardiac inflammation. To look at this beautiful baby boy, one would never think he has so many health problems, but Anthony and High Desert Doberman Rescue have just the caring hands, excellent vets and a team of dedicated, loving fosters to make Aaron achieve the pinnacle of health that he should be enjoying.  Obviously, with all the medical troubles little Aaron has right now, his vet bills are already getting steep - but take a look at this little guy's face!  High Desert Doberman Rescue continues to do whatever they can for all the Dobes under their care, but this does not come cheaply as we all know. This wonderful organization has come to Special Needs Dobermans for help with Aaron's climbing expenses.   Please remember that sweet, beautiful face and make a donation for Aaron at SND. Every single dime will go to his care, and you will be assured that SND will make sure Aaron will get the very best of care.   You can begin helping now by using USPS or PayPal to send your gift.  Just click on the links to see how you can too can join Aaron's Army!  (If using PayPal, please click on the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ links if able to save fees.)  And, until the end of the month, Secret Santa will match your donation dollar for dollar!!  Want another look at a handsome young DUDE?   Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.  THANK YOU. Monte !!

December, 2021:   Dear Monte is a 7+ year old fellow who was discovered at a shelter in California.  (He was listed as a ‘stray’, therefore, as so often occurs, we have no background information on him.)  Dobermans typically don’t do well in the shelter environment and Monte definitely needed moved from there - at his age and some mobility issues AND being a Doberman - his date at the blue cocktail bar was all but sealed.  California shelters and rescues are even fuller these days and a lot of scrambling began to give Monte a chance.  With the devoted Doberman rescue community working together, Monte was transported many, many miles - from California to New Mexico, and placed under the wings of the Rescue Angels of High Desert Doberman Rescue.   Upon arrival at HDDR, Monte had a full medical evaluation and was diagnosed with 1) dehydration and 2) diarrhea, for which he was provided medication, and 3) generalized weakness.  The exam also revealed possible myelopathy in the C1-T2 region.  Since being treated for the dehydration and diarrhea, Monte’s energy and strength has improved, however he still needs a neurological work up which very well may include a CT scan or a MRI for exact diagnosis.  When we hear CT scan or MRI, we know dollar signs $$ are going to wanting on the way!  Therefore, to complete this ‘gentle giant’s’ workup, the HDDR Angels have come to us at SND for assistance.  Let US come together, as the Doberman rescue community did, and help Monte get his remaining testing done.  NO donation amount is ever too small!  You can use USPS or PayPal to send your gift.  Just click on the links to see how you can be a part of Monte’s team! (If using PayPal, please click on the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ links if able to save fees.)  We all thank you so much for your continued generosity!  And, until the end of the month, don’t forget to include the words ‘Make Santa Pay’ to have your donation doubled!!!   Want to see avery handsome DobeGent?   Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   Very soon you'll be able to see more of this Gent following the link we'll post to his own Senior Page - enjoy and maybe send him some sponsorship love!  THANK YOU!!  Beth McCahren, Monte's SND Case Manager.

Azul !!

December, 2021:   Not much is known about Azul other than he is a very sweet blue boy approximately 2 years old.  He was picked up from a local Humane Society by Doberman Rescue Alliance of Wisconsin.  Unfortunately, he was hit by a car and his owners could not afford the medical treatment he needed.  He has a "broken" pelvis which will need at least six weeks of bed rest, hopefully that is all.  The Humane Society did xrays and thought the fracture was not bad enough to require surgery which would require pins and possibly plates.  He is doing well in his foster home right now, even trying to put weight on his leg.  He will be seen by another vet on December 20th for more xrays and a decision will be made at that time whether surgery is necessary.   If so the costs will, of course, increase.  The one thing in his favor is his age, the younger they are the faster they heal so we are keeping all fingers crossed.  Azul has the sweetest face and when you see him, all you want to do is kiss that face!  We have all had a less than optimal year and things are tight and people are hurting, but our faithful always come through for these sweet, wonderful creatures.  We are asking again to do whatever you can to help Azul and Doberman Rescue Alliance of Wisconsin.  Please help this boy and let all of your dog loving friends and family know about this sweet boy's plight.  You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or mailing in a donation which will be matched dollar for dollar by our Secret Santa!!  Thank you and Merry Christmas!    Nancy Harwood, Azul's SND Case Manager.

Spencer !!

December, 2021:   Spencer is a 3 year old looker, he's Dober eye candy.  He's also a "stray", taken in by a Southern California shelter.   If he had a family, they dumped him some time after he had a horrible accident.  It is assumed he was hit by a car, leaving him in severe pain and with a non-weight bearing leg.  Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore was alerted by the shelter, and were told they needed to rescue him by the next day at closing or not at all.  Unbeknownst to them, he had already been sitting there for 4 days on a stray hold.   Often "strays" are turned in by their own families who can't afford to fix them… possibly after 'giving it some time to heal' or, they just turn their backs and let nature or the county take their course.  This pain is just horrible for this poor boy to exist under.  He's in good hands now with the Rescue Angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue.  His suffering has already been alleviated and after FHO surgery, he'll be almost good as new!   Unfortunately this surgery is not free-or even cheap… but it is so very necessary.  DPR and SND will fix him--but we need your help!  Please begin helping Spencer by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.  Using the gift option even gives him more!   With USPS, you could also send him an X-mas card, check enclosed!  It is not only all good - it's even better being doubled by our own Secret Santa!  Just say "Make Santa pay" and we certainly will make sure it is! Want to see what a handsome devil looks like?   Pain or no, you can't hide noble!  Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org.   Once again I thank you for helping our sweet SNDobies and for easing Spencer's pain. Thank you!!  Carol Belknap, Spencer's SND Case Manager.
