Welcome to doberman911.org, the website for Special Needs Dobermans (SND). We are an organization of people with a common goal of helping senior and special needs Dobermans. That need may be financial or it may be only information and/or moral support for the owner of a Doberman with a serious illness or injury. We will also aid in rehoming and fostering senior Dobermans. These Dobermans may be shelter rescues or they may already be much loved companions with a special need. Financial aid may be through donations or through avenues such as online auctions. Every precaution will be taken to assure that the need is real.

HELP ME
Give me the ugly dog with one eye, three legs,
and help me show that they're more than just a form and a face.
Give me the scarred dog, burned and slashed with hate,
and help me lead it away from that terrible fate.
Give me the deaf and blind dog, and help me show it the way
in the silence and dark of each of their days.
Give me the shutdown dog, depressed of mind,
and help me cherish their soul until their fears unwind.
Give me the old dog, bent and broken with age,
and help me fill their last days with an unending grace.
Give me the ugly dog, I'll leave the pretty one for you,
and help me show them they're worthy of love and joy, too.

Meet The SNDobes Helped With General Funds!!
These Special Needs Dobermans were helped with one-time grants from our most important fund, the General Fund. This fund is used to help Dobermans fortunate enough to find themselves in Rescue Groups. Assistance is only provided for extraordinary expenses. These grants can be augmented by your generous contributions to any of these precious Dobes!! Private owners will be provided the necessary information to help them fundraise for their own Dobes as well as being given information to reduce their costs for medications and ways to seek additional information about Doberman illnesses.
Diego
!!
|
December, 2019: This dear young boy is Diego and he was recently rescued by the RescueAngels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California. It's unknown just how old Diego is - estimates range from 1 1/2 to perhaps as old as 4 years. What is known is that Diego's right eye was not functioning and the cause was unknown - until he was sent to UC Davis Veterinary School, where he was examined and ultimately underwent enucleation of the right eye. It is thought Diego's continuing eye troubles are congenital and unfortunately, his vision problems aren't over yet. Diego's left eye sports a cataract, further hindering his vision and his ophthalmologist and surgeon are unsure about cataract surgery because he may develop glaucoma down the road - which is very painful for dogs and requires enucleation to keep him from pain, which of course, will render him totally blind. Diego is going to require an ultrasound and additional testing to evaluate his prospects for keeping his remaining eye, if at all possible. What is possible is DPR and Special Needs Dobermans are going to do everything under the sun to help this dear boy have the best, happy and pain free life he can live. Please begin helping by sending a Paypal or mailed donation for Diego's vision care and get your gift matched by our marvelous Secret Santa - who will MATCH your donation! Thank you for making this holiday season the happiest and healthiest as can be for our dear Dobes!! Want to see how beautiful Diego is through both of your own eyes? Indy
!!
|
December, 2019: Another beautiful Doberman let down by its people and others who should be helping animals. A beautiful blue boy only 14 months old was posted on rescueme.org being sold for $100 after owner stated Indy was hit by a car and she couldn't afford his medical care. Dobie Ranch Rescue in Florida tried to contact this seller multiple times by phone and email but never got a response - surprised? Well no... the ad was taken down so it was assumed Indy had been placed. Three weeks later Indy showed up at an animal shelter as a stray. Indy sat in this shelter for another two weeks because he was on a stray hold. I would imagine the owner turned Indy in to the shelter, so why the stray hold? Good question! In any case, this poor, innocent animal received no medical treatment for a severely broken leg for six weeks, totally abandoned by the only family he had ever known and by Animal "Services." Doctors were absolutely flabbergasted by how much pain this boy had endured and still kept his Doberman spirit. Indy finally got to Dobie Ranch Rescue and had emergency surgery not knowing if the leg could even be saved. Fortunately doctors were able to save Indy's leg using plates, pins and screws. It is believed his leg may be a little shorter than the other rear leg but they are hoping for a complete recovery. As you can imagine this was a very expensive surgery. Without everyone's help this boy would have no chance at all, but between all of us and DRR this boy can have a normal life. Lets not let this poor beautiful Dobe down again, lets prove to Indy that all humans are not like the humans that let him down at such a young age. He has many years ahead of him, let's get him well and into a "GOOD" home where he will be loved for many years and not tossed out like yesterday's trash. You can make a life saving, tax deductible donation by using PayPay or by mailing in your donation. Please help us help Indy! Thank you! Want a double shot of our soon to be an Indy 500?? Max
!!
|
December, 2019: Animal control picked up 6 year old Maximus off the street. Later it was discovered his owner had deserted his home and Max at the same time. Just walked away and left him to die. I can't even imagine dumping my Dobe, can you? My dog would go with me... wherever. However, as so often happens, it was the best thing that could have happened to this pretty boy! He was rescued by Diane and got to go to Dobie Rescue Ranch in Florida. It must have seemed like heaven to Max because someone finally cared about his health. You see, when animal control picked him up, he wasn't hard to catch -- one rear leg was at least three times its normal size. The Angels at Dobie Rescue Ranch did all kinds of testing. Negative, negative, negative. Puzzling… he was producing fluid from his leg yet didn't seem to be in much pain. A CT scan (read: not cheap) showed him to be cryptorchid with both testicles. One was pressing on his bladder and one was pressing on his prostate. You have to wonder how much of his life he had been in this condition, possibly years… Immediate surgery to remove his testes started the fluid draining. His leg size diminished immediately! Better still, biopsies came back negative. His leg has been so enlarged for so long it is unlikely it will ever go back down to a normal size BUT it is no longer retaining fluid. He is on his way to being a happy boy ready to be someone's ray of sunshine! Someone who will not ignore or abandon him but will love and spoil him forever! Diane says Max is the sweetest boy on earth, completely charming everyone who meets him. All the people who are caring for him during his bad time have fallen in love with him! Just imagine him with the bad days behind him! Please consider joining DRR and SND get Max ready for a new life! You may begin helping Max by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, or by mailing one in. Max is grateful for everything--no amount is too small to help and 100% goes to his salvation fund! The great Doberman Community is always there for these injured, forgotten Dobes. As always, I thank you from the bottom of my heart! Want another shot of Dapper Dude?? Here's a heart-throbber!! Winky
!!
|
November,
2019:
One
glance at this gorgeous 2 year old will make you smile - her picture simply
exudes sweetness and joy. But Winky's tale is not evident in her gorgeous
smile. Dear Winky found herself in a northern California shelter without
many prospects for an adoption because as beautiful as she is, her poor
eyes were drooling rivers of matter and one eye is smaller than the other.
I am so grateful for the RescueAngels Army of Doberman Pinscher Rescue
to have found and rescued this gorgeous girlie (as they have countless
others...) and immediately got her to their veterinarian. Poor Winky lived
with entropion eyelids (a condition where the eyelids are turned under
and the lashes scratch the surface of the eye) since she came into this
world. One of her eyes is congenitally compromised, as it is smaller than
normal and Winky can only perceive light and darkness with the eye...
The other, however, is fully functional and our girl can see the world
and those who love her. DPR and company had Winky undergo surgery to correct
her painful situation and as we speak, dear Winky is making an astounding
recovery and making up for all the puppyhood she missed. Winky's surgery
was nearly a thousand dollars - a substantial amount for a nonprofit such
as Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore. If you've been a fan of Special
Needs Dobermans for any amount of time, you are aware of the literally
thousands of Dobermans (and other dogs, too) that DPR has saved, made
whole and found families for. As long as our quadruped friends are
tossed aside, as long as there are unwanted animals and as long as there
are shelters - DPR's work must continue. Please support this important
work and send a donation for Winky's surgery to Special Needs Dobermans.
Every penny will go to recouping the expense of Winky's surgery - and
you get the added reward of knowing that sweet, beautiful pumpkin we know
as Winky is feeling wonderful and seeing the world with joy and love...
You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or by mailing
one
in. And don't forget to spread the word about beautiful Winky to all your
friends, family and social media. Want a closer view of a beautiful smile?
Here's winking at you!! Click here https://www.doberman911.org.
THANK YOU!! Les Michell-Young, SND Case Manager - sending smiles to Winky. |

Cady
!
|
November,
2019:
UPDATE on Halloween! Poor Cady, having come
through beautifully from a grueling FHO surgery the week before, Cady
bloated. Luckily, her symptoms and signs of bloat were recognized
very early and she was rushed to VCA Emergency Hospital - those last three
words should say it all, especially the EMERGENCY part!! Cady's
stomach had twisted more than 180 degrees! She was tacked and unfortunately
she also lost her spleen. Over $7K later
of touch and go care, Cady recovered enough to be discharged
and she is recovering once again in the loving care of her Angels at HDDR!
Won't you please be a part of her salvation?? The donation links
are the same and if you just can't resist another picture of this beautiful
girl, just click right here
https://www.doberman911.org.
THANK YOU from us all and
especially Cady! October, 2019: The cutie before you is Cady. She’s still a youngster at only two years old, just barely out of puppyhood. Sadly, whether a stray or a dump, she landed in a New Mexico shelter. Cady was overweight and had a limp and the limp placed her right onto the euthanasia list, or more bluntly put, the kill list. When the Rescue Angels of High Desert Doberman Rescue of Belen New Mexico heard of Cady plight, there was no way they were going to let her die. They whisked her out of her death trap, put her on a weight program and had her limp evaluated and x-rayed. The results are Cady needs FHO surgery to provide relief from pain as well as further deterioration of her hip. Now, it goes without saying, surgery doesn’t come cheap, but it also goes without saying that sweet, loveable Cady is well worth every cent it takes to make her well again. HDDR was there for Cady, and now we need to be there for them to enable Cady to have surgery so she can run and play pain free once again. Won’t you please help us help HDDR and Cady? No amount you are able to donate is ever too small as every gift adds up and your donation is tax deductible! You can send your donation either by mail or PayPal. (If using PayPal, please click on the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ tabs to keep your gift ‘fee free)! Thank you ever so much for your continued support of the Doberman Rescue Angels and SND!! Beth McCahren, SND Case Manager for Cady! |

Paisley,
Dax & Rocco !!
|
October,
2019:
Paisley,
Dax and Rocco... 12 weeks old suffering from Parvo. These sweet
kids were rescued from a back yard breeder in Texas and eventually spoken
for by the RescueAngels from High Desert Doberman Rescue in New Mexico.
We know little to nothing about these little ones except that,
more than likely, when the back yard breeder realized the pups were very
ill they were not unhappy to be rid of them. As a rule, BYB's spend
as little as possible money on their puppies - the bottom line is what
they can sell them for! The three pups were taken immediately to the hospital
in El Paso and subsequently they were diagnosed with Parvo. They stayed
at the hospital until the vets felt they were healthy enough for transport
to HDDR. The prognosis for them at this point is very good and Paisley,
Dax and Rocco are being cared for by in NM by HDDR. As you can imagine
the cost for diagnosis, treatment and recovery from parvo is very high.
Almost $2500 so far for these three lucky pups!! These little ones certainly
deserve a better life than they have had so far. If you can help with
their expenses, it would be so much appreciated by everyone involved.
No amount is ever too small to help get these little guys get healthy
and into good families. Please help them and High Desert Doberman
Rescue if you can! You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal
or by mailing
one
in. Don't forget to get the word out about these babies to all your friends,
family and social media. We need all of you to help save these sweet pups.

Zeus
!
|
October,
2019:
When
Zeus was 2 years old, his owner dumped him. But in this case it was a
little better than the typical dump… He left him (temporarily, of
course) with someone who not only already has a Dobe, but is an animal
control officer. The owner most likely knew he wouldn't be back for his
friend and at least took the time to find someone appropriate for his
"dump." When the owner finally signed Zeus over to the
shelter, his new Foster Mom kept him with her until Bluegrass Doberman
Rescue could free up some room. In typical Doberman fashion, his sweet
affection has done the trick and she has become his official BDR Foster
Mom. It doesn't take long for them to put pawprints on our hearts, does
it??! She will continue to foster him until he is ready for his forever
home--and he is so adorable, it won't be long! At least it won't be long
AFTER he is ready for a home… he is heartworm positive. Damn worms,
we have work to do here! Please consider joining BDR and SND in this latest
battle! Zeus needs his own family to snuggle with--and he will--I promise!!
You may begin helping Zeus by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.
If you have the gift option, even the fees will go to Zeus (hey, it all
helps). You may also maill

battle we fight… and never forget how thankful I am with your continued
support. If you just can't wait to see another gorgeous shot, just click

Rio
!
|
October,
2019:
Our
newest SND Dobe in need is Rio. She’s just a youngster, surmised
to be approximately just two years old. She was initially found as a skinny
stray roaming around with a young (non-Doberman) puppy. The Rescue Angels
of an all breed rescue, Ruff Tales Rescue in Arkansas, were asked to help
both dogs and they willingly obliged. As Rio began to gain weight, it
was obvious that she had hind end lameness. X-rays revealed a fractured
femoral neck with proximal femur involvement. Due to the complexity of
the needed FHO surgery, RTR was advised to have the procedure done by
a specialist (more costly of course). Who knows how long sweet Rio
has been living in pain! The RTR angels have come to us at SND for assistance
in helping Rio begin the road to being a heathy, pain free girl again!
Humans have let her down before, but no longer. Wouldn’t
it do your heart good to know you had a hand in helping RTR with Rio’s
recovery? When an all-breed rescue saves one of our beloved breed,
how can we NOT help? Please keep in mind that NO donation is ever
too small and that every cent adds up! Just click on the links for PayPal
or mail
to begin helping Rio with your donation how (if using PayPal, please click

your tax deductible gift fee- free!). And, for additional exposure, please,
share to your social media pages. Want to see more of pretty Miss Rio

King
!
|
October,
2019:
When
King was almost 2 years old his owner went to prison. The owner's brother
kept him for the next year, but it wasn't pretty. Another dog in the home
kept fighting with King, who was still intact. It would seem as though
King was chained outside most of the time, judging by the wounds on his
neck from his collar. He was also covered in other wounds, scars and fleas,
with complete hair loss on his back. He has puncture wounds and abscesses
from his fights. He was, in short, a real mess! King was surrendered to
J9's Rescue Inc. in Michigan. Jeannine got him to the vet right
away for all the stuff he needed (but had never had). He has also been
neutered as Jeannine's vet felt he was healthy enough. He's getting antibiotics
and has had a super-mega-double flea-bath-scrub. He smells so good now!
So now we come to the reason J9's has come to SND (and to me in particular).
Heartworms. And they must die! Jeannine has been paying for heartworm
treatments for other dogs out of her own pocket and it ends now! J9's
and SND are going to get this bill covered for King, right? Of course
we are! This fawn boy is so sweet and cuddly--he really will make someone
a wonderful, loving companion for many years. But first the wounds must
heal and the worms must die. You may begin helping King by clicking on
the PayPal button to the right, remember the gift option saves fees -
but of course, you may also mail
one in. King will appreciate any and all help he may receive. And I most
sincerely would appreciate your help--you know how I hate those damn worms!!!

Stoli
!
|
October, 2019: A Gent named Stoli and J9's rescue in Detroit, Michigan need our help! Stoli is and albinoid Senior Doberman, 10 and a half years young. His "caring owner" surrendered him just because he didn't want him anymore, WHAT?! His owner went on vacation leaving Stoli with a friend and never returned to pick him up. WHAT?? Stoli is a big boy, 95 pounds of sweetness - the friend was moving into an apartment, not the best life for a large boy like Stoli. So, the friend called the owner and asked him to come get his dog. The owner told the friend: "Just get rid of him!" Just like this beautiful Doberman is a piece of trash to be thrown away with last weeks garbage! Thank goodness the friend reached out to Jeanine at J9's rescue in Detroit! Stoli is the sweetest dog on the planet, according to Jeanine. He loves everyone and everything! He is friends with dogs, cats and even the rabbits in the house. He is silly and goofy, like most Doberboys, and doesn't act his age at all. Unfortunately being albinoid he is prone to certain conditions - sensitivity to sun in skin and eyes. He is covered in warts and skin growths cause by the genetic mutation in pigmentation. Some of the growths were removed after he was surrendered, but the growths have returned and are larger and have turned black and are very concerning. They need to be removed. All the growths, his age, his size and being white have unfortunately made him a Sanctuary dog - NOT that that's the worst thing that could happen to an old soldier!! Just look at Stoli, a face that needs to be loved and kissed even with all the bumps and lumps, he is a beautiful soul. He has an appointment to check these growths and find out if they are anything to be concerned about. The vet recommended leaving the ones around his eyes although they are starting to impair his vision. We are all hoping all the growths can be removed successfully with no cancer. Even though he is older and has all these growths, Stoli deserves to have a stable, loving home to live out his Senior years. This rescue needs our help to accomplish this for this sweet guy. Please help if you are able, no donation is too small. You can make a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button or by mailing in your donation. Thank you and don't forget to pass Stoli's story on to social media and anywhere that may be able to help with this gent's expenses. Want to help Stoli enjoy his retirement with a few extras? Send him a Sponsorship after you visit him here https://doberman911.org/seniors/cases/mi_stoli.html. We all THANK YOU very much!! Stoli, J9 and SND Case Manager, Nancy Harwood.
Star
!
|
October, 2019: Meet 2 year old Star. Yes, she is a Star but she’s starring in a role that may kill her if we can’t find a way to help her! Star’s person was arrested for being a public squatter – she was arrested too, specifically "seized" and taken to the pound where she was held for the mandatory 10 days. Like most intelligent creatures, she did not do well confined for a reason she couldn’t understand. Her "owner" didn't want her back (surprise, surprise!). She became more and more defensive and intimidating so she was quickly destined for a trip to the Blue Cocktail Bar unless… unless RescueAngels from Doberman Rescue of Nevada could take her in. Well, you can guess the next event – she was soon asleep in her angel’s arms on the way away from hell – but not for long as it turns out. Self-proclaimed “experienced” Doberman owners (who also presently owned other Dobes) came to DRNV and applied to adopt Star. Well, they did adopt along with the strict, contracted promise, of making necessary arrangements for her training and acclimation to her new life. In a little more than ONE week, she had become even more tightly wound than she had been even at the shelter. Obviously none of the commitments made was kept. She was taken back in custody by DRNV who now faced the dilemma head on. So far, everyone had failed this girl and she’d become unadoptable and perhaps even a danger - so afraid had she become. Her only chance had become finding serious, intensive re-training. She was evaluated and shortly… and we do mean shortly as in hours, she had begun letting out the Star within. Playing and obeying the behaviorist and looking altogether like a different DobeGirl!! Should we NOT give her a chance to overcome the damage done to her by others? Of course we should at least try and we have committed to do that along with DRNV. This kind of intensive reprogramming does not come cheaply. But, you may begin helping to correct Star's orbit and put her on the trajectory to the happy, loved life she's always deserved by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, the gift option pays her even more! You may also mail one in of course. We all THANK YOU and count on your support of these most deserving Dobermans!! Star, DRNV and the SND Case Management Team.
Bianca
!
|
October,
2019:
Several
months ago Bluegrass Doberman Rescue saved a pretty little red Dober-girlie
from a North Carolina shelter. She was 2 or 3 months old and had a badly
broken back leg. When they actually got Bianca, they took her to several
different vets and it was decided the break was old and somewhat healed.
The muscles around the break were holding it together and absolutely nothing
was holding little Bianca back, she moved very well (and tirelessly I
might add). The decision was made not to amputate, but to wait and see
how the leg was when she started to grow. A fantastic home awaited her
and all her energy so--another decision--she was allowed to "go home."
BDR made it clear from the start they were committed to follow up care
on the leg if it became necessary. Life was great for Bianca, she could
run and play all day with her new doggie brother. As a little puppy you
could not hold her back and as she is growing, her energy level certainly
isn't slowing down! She even loves swimming (in her life jacket, of course).
How un-Doberman of her! Doesn't she know she'll melt? Life was good -
no, life was perfect. And then, well, it suddenly wasn't…
Bianca somehow got her good leg stuck on something and before Mom could
reach her, she pulled so hard to get free she tore the muscles holding
the bad leg together. Amputation was now necessary. It was successful.
Melissa saw her the day after surgery. She says you wouldn't know anything
was different! Bianca was still as energetic as ever and is not looking
back for that stupid leg that let her down anyway! At 6 months old, it
is obvious she will be very big, very tall--and is already very beautiful!!
BDR and SND are asking you for help with this pretty redhead! You may
begin helping Bianca by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, the
gift option pays her even more! You may also mail
one in, one way or another I know you want to help this cutie!! As always,
I thank you for your support, so many Dobes need us - and you!! Thank
you!! Carol Belknap, Bianca's SND Case Manager. |

October,
2019:
What
a shame! Only 3 years old and a stray. To make things worse, her time
was up and the shelter was ready to put her down. Libby was just out of
puppyhood and out of luck! At least she was before sweet Melissa and Bluegrass
Doberman Rescue entered the picture! Melissa and her RescueAngels scooped
her up and got her to a vet. Guess what her only problem is? Come on,
it's Melissa and it's me so it has to be -- drum roll please... heartworms!
Libby is super sweet and extra clingy. She is an absolute love! (Plus
she really knows how to work the Dobie butt rub.) All people are her friends,
especially if you'll pet her! She knows how to work a room, you've probably
seen similar action... You pet, she loves it, you stop, she moves on to
the next pair of idle hands. She would love to be the boss lady if only
to make sure she gets all the attention, although she does like other
dogs. Other dogs are fine but kitties are another story! She loves to
run and play and will be a handful during her treatment, it's hard to
hold a good dog down! BDR and SND have joined forces to kill her worms
and I'm here to ask for your help. I know I asked earlier today and may
ask you again tomorrow but those damned worms must die!!!! You may begin
killing worms and helping this young sweetie by clicking on the PayPal
button to your right. The gift option saves even the PayPal fees, that's
another dead worm!! You may also mail
in your help--and remember, no amount is ever too little!! Thank you (for
the third time today) for your support. We truly couldn't do it without
you!!! Thank you!! Carol Belknap, Libby's SND Case Manager. |

October,
2019:
As
much as we love all Dobermans, there is the rare occasion when we encounter
a Dobe so special, so enchanting that they strike you straight in the
soul with their beauty... and Pandora is such a Dobe. She's now 9 years
old and had lived a life of stability and love until several months ago
when her owner died. Pandora had two human siblings who scooped her up
and made a sincere attempt at keeping her - even though both humans lived
in apartments that did not allow quadrupeds. It is unknown if Pandora
ever visited a veterinarian during this time, however, when she was surrendered
to Doberman Pinscher Rescue in Fillmore, California, she appeared to be
in relatively good shape - with the exception of two growths that demanded
veterinary attention. The DALPR RescueAngel Army got this dear, beautiful
girl to their vet and surgery was performed. One of the growths was in
a very difficult area surgically in her armpit, however, all the news
is excellent. Pandora is now feeling much, much better and has received
a 5 star prognosis from her surgeon. She is now ready to bring beauty
and love to someone who will be very, very lucky. We all know seniors
need special care, especially with difficult surgeries. We also know that
no surgery comes cheap. However, looking at this spellbinding, gorgeous
smile gives the heart and soul good. She is so beautiful... SND is raising
funds to assist DALPR in financing precious Pandora's surgery, and we're
asking you for help. DALPR has provided the salvation for countless orphaned
Dobes and cannot continue to help these dogs without your help. Please
send a donation to Special Needs Dobermans in Pandora's name. Every cent
goes to paying for her surgery - and you can look at her picture and smile
back at this beauty, knowing you helped. You can make a tax deductible
donation by using PayPay or mailing
in a donation. Thank you and remember we can't do this without you!!

Barney
!
|
October,
2019:
Hello
my fellow Dobe lovers, meet Barney! Noooo, he is NOT a purple dinosaur,
he is a beautiful black Doberman of around seven years old who has had
a bit of bad luck lately. After somehow(?) getting loose from his home
he was chased by an AC officer right into traffic where he got hit by
a car shattering his front leg. He also had lots of scratches and
bruises all over his body. You would think these people would know better
than to chase a frightened animal... This could have ended much differently
as you can imagine! Badly injured, he was taken to a shelter where they
decided rescue or euthanasia instead of caring for his injuries the contributed
to causing. Thankfully, Barney ended up with Doberman Rescue of Nevada
and is getting the treatment he needs to save his leg. Extended
splinting of the leg is expected to save him from an amputation or extensive
surgery to repair. The RescueAngels at DRNV say he is an extremely
social and friendly boy. Due to his age, it may take longer for his bones
to heal and keeping Barney the social butterfly quiet is proving to be
time consuming and difficult! Barney has won the hearts of everyone he
meets during his hospitalization, including a nurse who is hoping Barney
might be able to join his family - but first we need to save his leg.
He has been let down by his owners, by animal control who chased him,
almost to death, by the shelter who refused to get him treatment.
DRNV has not let him down and everything will be done to insure Barney
has a good life from here on in! So, lets not let him and the RescueAngels
at DRNV down and send a donation to help with Barney's recovery. And don't
forget to pass on this information to friends, family and facebook groups
who may be able to help. You can make a tax deductible donation by using
PayPay or mailing

Fig
!
|
October,
2019:
Fig
is an active, friendly 3 year old. He was living in an apartment
with a young family and a baby. Probably not the best scenario, but it
worked -- until there was another baby on the way. One day his family
decided Fig wasn't getting the life he deserved (probably not) and decided
they would let him go. So that is how Fig lost everyone and everything
he had known and wound up in rescue. It's a great rescue -- Doberman
Pinscher Rescue in California and Ardis' RescueAngel Team is definitely
a wonderful bunch of people to help him on his way to a new life. So it's
all good, right? Wrong. Shortly after coming to DALPR, Fig appeared
lethargic and wasn't his normal "love ya" self. Next he
quit pooping… He was given small amounts of canned food, which he
seemed to like. Ok, so he isn't into dry food, not a biggie, they could
deal with that. But then he quit eating all together. He began
drooling and was definitely a miserable boy so off he went to the vet
for help. You have probably guessed it - Fig needed emergency surgery
for torsion. Poor boy… Torsion won't be in his future again
as he was tacked while in surgery! SND has joined DALPR in the effort
to get him back on his feet and ready for a new life with a new family.
I think he deserves a fenced yard to run in and someone to play with,
don't you? You may begin helping him toward this exciting new life by
clicking on the PayPal button to the right. The friends and family gift
option means even more goes to Figgy! The USPS
is also waiting for your envelope--they'll get it right to us! Without
the Doberman Community rescues wouldn't be able to save these wonderful
dogs, I thank you so very much for your continued support of our SNDobies!
Thank you! Carol Belknap, Fig's SND case manager. |

Cady
!
|
October,
2019:
The
cutie before you is Cady. She’s still a youngster at only two years
old, just barely out of puppyhood. Sadly, whether a stray or a dump, she
landed in a New Mexico shelter. Cady was overweight and had a limp and
the limp placed her right onto the euthanasia list, or more bluntly put,
the kill list. When the Rescue Angels of High Desert Doberman Rescue of
Belen New Mexico heard of Cady plight, there was no way they were going
to let her die. They whisked her out of her death trap, put her on a weight
program and had her limp evaluated and x-rayed. The results are Cady needs
FHO surgery to provide relief from pain as well as further deterioration
of her hip. Now, it goes without saying, surgery doesn’t come cheap,
but it also goes without saying that sweet, loveable Cady is well worth
every cent it takes to make her well again. HDDR was there for Cady, and
now we need to be there for them to enable Cady to have surgery so she
can run and play pain free once again. Won’t you please help us
help HDDR and Cady? No amount you are able to donate is ever too small
as every gift adds up and your donation is tax deductible! You can send
your donation either by mail
or PayPal. (If using PayPal, please click on the ‘send money’
and ‘friends and family’ tabs to keep your gift ‘fee
free)! Thank you ever so much for your continued support of the Doberman
Rescue Angels and SND!! Beth McCahren, SND Case Manager for Cady!

Wilson
!
|
October,
2019:
Three
year old Wilson didn't just get dumped - he was the only one of his owner's
3 dogs to get dumped. They chose a Boxer over a Dobe -- there's just no
accounting for taste! :) Don't get me wrong, Boxers are wonderful dogs
-- but they sure ain't a Dobe! Supposedly, the Boxer kept beating up the
Dobe so they dumped Wilson to save him… uhhuh... Which they did.
They cared so much as demonstrated by the fact that Wilson is heartworm
positive! They actually did save his life by dumping him on two counts!
I pity the other 3 dogs in that household, they surely have the dreaded
worm also, and they don't have us to care! But Wilson does! He has Dean
and San Antonio Doberman Advocacy and RescueAngels! Not a bad deal for
our Mr. Wilson, huh? Though at this age, it was suggested he's more like
Dennis... :) He's going to be healed and will go on to a life of
his own with a family and without heart worms. SADAR has asked SND to
help in Mr. Wilson's Worm War and of course we said YES! I know what you're
thinking… it's Carol again with another heartworm case, ho-hum.
Believe me it isn't ho-hum to Wilson! He needs us and he needs you. You
may begin helping Wilson by clicking on the PayPal button to the right,
or by mailing
one in… every bit of it is good!!!! Please remember how thankful
I am-always-at your continued support of these wonderful SNDobies! Carol
Belknap, Wilson's SND case manager and Worm Warrior. |

Joey
!
|
October, 2019: We have another wonderful dober in need. Joey is a handsome red, nine year old all natural senior guy who has been abandoned by the family he loved, too bad they didn't love him enough to see him through the winter of his life. Joey was surrendered to Doberman Rescue of Nevada by a friend of the former "caring" owner who abandoned him. When the owner took an international trip and decided he wasn't coming back, he told Joey's caretaker to "get rid of the dog"! That friend and wife just had a new baby and live in breed restricted housing. Joey and the caretakers got along just fine it was the landlord who said "NO" Dobermans! With tears in his eyes he handed Joey over to DRNV to find a new life. Joey's care had been minimal at best and DRNV realized by his awful breath that he had some problems. He had some rotten teeth and dental pain and also was not neutered - which was taken care of at time of his dental. This will make it that much easier to get this gentle soul adopted, not to mention that he loves everyone and everything he comes into contact with. Joey is a joy to be with, an adorable old man. If you can help this sweet Senior boy to find a home and help DRNV at the same time that would be wonderful. Joey deserves the love and care he didn't get from his former owner! You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or mailing in your donation. And, remember to spread the word far and wide to get these DRNV rescue angels all the help they need. Thank you all for loving these unfortunate, wonderful, sweet Dobermans. Nancy Harwood, Joey's SND Case Manager. |

Mario
!

September,
2019:
Mario
is supposed to be 3 years old but Melissa of Bluegrass Doberman Rescue
says he acts younger than that--so who knows? He was bred by a backyard
breeder/greeder who was purposely breeding melanistic Dobes because they
are so rare! And, of course, worth more money! Wow man! Just imagine if
you could have a rare pure black and a rare white! Cool, huh? NOT!!!!
Once you're done rolling your eyes and muttering obscene fortunes for
the greeder, let's figure out how to get Mario into a normal, happy Dober-life!!!
This greeder dumped all his dogs when his girlfriend had had enough, thus
over-loading a southern rescue. They know BDR... No dog left behind, so
of course they took some of the dogs. You did hear south, right? Greeder
kennel, right? You know what's coming don't you? BDR and SND have more
heartworms to kill--and we hope you'll help! Mario is a sweet energetic
youngun' who loves people! Loves other dogs too. He wants to be at your
side, especially outside (you'll come too won't you Mom?). He LOVES to
play fetch--but forgets to bring the ball back. Just a puppy looking at
what the world will bring him. Let's show him the good side… You
can begin helping Mario by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.
The gifting option gives him even more as no fees come out of your donation!
USPS will also get your help to this boy,
it's what I use! As always, we at SND appreciate your continued help in
the Worm Wars!! Want to see another happy-faced puppy? Just click

Sweetums
!
|
September,
2019:
This
baby is named perfectly - just look at that face. Sweetums, at the tender
age of less than 2 years, found herself on the streets with a advanced
case of demodectic mange. Fortunately, she was scooped up by the
RescueAngels and their army from Dobies and Little Paws Rescue in Fillmore,
California and immediately taken to their capable veterinarians. To everyone's
surprise and sorrow, it was discovered Sweetums had a HORRIBLE and life
threatening case of pnuenomia. For about a week, it was touch and go for
this little darling while she was hospitalized, but she has turned the
corner. And, we're so happy to report she's improving every day.
Given her still tenuous health status, they're waiting for her spay until
she is fully recovered from the pnuenomia. Her prognosis is now
excellent and soon she should be feeling wonderful and ready to become
some lucky person's family member. The team of angels at Doberman Pinscher
works non-stop to save countless Dobes. This is rewarding but very hard
work - not to mention expensive. Sweetum's bills total almost $2,000 and
she isn't completely out of the woods. Please send a few dollars to SND
so we can help DALPR continue to treat and meet Sweetums' needs on her
journey. Every cent will go to her bills, and you will be rewarded with
the knowledge that you helped this beautiful girl be the best she can
be. Thank you from beautiful Sweetums, DALPR and me! You may begin helping
so very sweet Miss Sweetums by clicking on the PayPal button to the right.

Delilah
!
|
September, 2019: My, My, My Delilah! What your 7 years have shown you… Delilah and her Samson were seized by the authorities following charges of cruelty and neglect against their previous “owner.” Really. Following the seizure, Delilah and Samson were taken to a local shelter. Samson had an advanced case of Wobblers in addition to being very emaciated so he was placed in a hospice environment and died a short time later. Delilah was in slightly better condition even though malnourished AND appeared to have had a recent litter. Her pups? Who will ever know? At this lowest point in her life, short of death (yes, there are worse things than death for some), her most lucky break had arrived!! Thanks to the RescueAngels of Doberman Rescue of Colorado, she was taken under their wings and into safety. So, besides being a Senior Lady now – obviously needing spay surgery – the other shoe was about to fall. You don’t think the ‘person’ who had her cared for her enough, other than the money-making litters she could have, do you? Enough to spend some of the profit on HEARTWORM PREVENTION?? NO!! Okay, all that is in the past now – Delilah's strength was built up, she will be spayed and then begin heartworm treatment. After she is fully recovered, she will begin her quest to find a new Forever Family who will give her the love and care she always deserved but had not received, until now. We know HW treatment is not cheap and DRCO has asked for our help – yours too! You may begin helping sweet Delilah by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. The family gift option saves even more! You may also mail one in THANK YOU from Delilah, DRCO and SND!! SND Case Management Team. |

August
30, 2019:
It is with great sadness that we tell you that dear Decker lost his
battle with whatever infection had destroyed his lungs. Though
he initially responded to treatment, the response was not long-lived.
He had total respiratory collapse and died while hospitalized.
His Angels are devastated as are all who touched this young Dobe's life.
He did not leave us without a fight. His fight was expensive but
he was worth EVERY cent. You can honor him with a donation in
his memory. Rest in peace dear one... you were indeed loved and
cared for. |

her this chance - she died peacefully surrounded with love. Rest
In Peace Dear Princess. |

Broxton
!
|
August, 2019: Our newest DobeGent is 7 – 8 year old Broxton. Broxton has been cared for by the Rescue Angels of Doberman and Little Paws Rescue of Fillmore, California for approximately 5 years. Although he is well loved by his foster mother, due to her long working hours as well as his uncanny and undesirable ability to escape from nearly any enclosure known to man (this talent has also kept him from being permanently adopted), he mostly resides at the rescue. It was during a few days away from the rescue with his foster mom that she noticed he had neither voided nor had he consumed any water. Knowing this was an issue that for called for prompt attention, she called the rescue for permission to have Broxton vetted. By his exam, tests and labs the diagnosis was a UTI with hypothyroidism as a possible contributing factor and treatment was begun. DALPR cares for many Dobes at any given time and an emergent vet visit can put a strain on any rescue’s resources. I suggest we help Broxton’s saviors and together contribute a little which would definitely add up to a lot!! Remember, your donation is tax deductible and can be either mailed or donated by using PayPal (if using PayPal please click on ‘send money’ as well as ‘friends and family’ to keep your donation Fee Free!!) The rescues who you support as well as we at SND graciously thank you for your continued generosity!! THANK YOU!! Beth McCahren, SND Case Manager. |

Farrah
!
|
July,
2019:
Remember
sweet, delightful Farrah? Attacked in an exercise yard, life wasn't getting
easier for her… We, and you, helped then, helped put her back together…
but she needs more help now. Unfortunately, although her wounds did heal,
her leg never became functional. It remained locked in a tucked position
in spite of physical therapy, meds and laser treatments. There is no bone
damage so irreversible nerve damage is most likely involved. She cannot
use the leg and ongoing nerve pain makes her lick her leg to the point
of raw obsession. At this point sweet, the good folks at DPR decided to
amputate the leg that is becoming such a serious problem for her quality
of life. So… You helped before, please help again and let's get
this girl the rest of the way to being ready for a new life. She can't
wait to become someone's beautiful blue tri-paws!!! How to help instructions
are as before in the following original story. Carol Belknap, SND
Case Manager for life! THANK YOU!! April, 2019: Delightful Farrah is about 6 years old. It's hard to tell and there's no one to ask. She was a stray out of the San Diego area before being rescued by Ardis and her Doberman Pinscher RescueAngels. Farrah is an absolutely wonderful dog who will always greet you with a wagging nub and something in her mouth -- a toy, a towel -- just for you. She's a favorite of everyone she meets and should have a long, happy life ahead of her… but it's been put on hold for a while. Somehow this little Dober-girl got herself into an exercise yard she didn't belong in (while her volunteer was ??watching?? her, NOT!!). The dog she met did not think she was delightful nor cute. In fact she was savagely attacked and severely injured. So her road trip to happy has been sidetracked down Pain Lane, she's Blue and now very blue. Poor girl… She was immediately taken to care which was not only expensive but because of the extent of damage done. Lacerations, deep puncture and an area of practically shredded skin that couldn't re-cover the wound. It was even thought that she might not survive the attack because of the severity. True to Doberman fashion, Miss Farrah fought back by sheer will and a good vet! DPR has asked SND to help with her medical bills -- and I am here to ask you to help us help this beautiful Lady. Without you the rescues who do so much good would have to close, one by one. Dobies and Little Paws Rescue in Southern California (a huge radius encompassing San Diego and Los Angeles and more) is constantly bombarded by Dobermans needing rescue and help - you can imagine the numbers given the population density in the area the serve. Your support is that important!! Please consider helping sweet Farrah. You may begin by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Any gift option will send even more to this blue beauty!! USPS gets your donation there too! Anything works and it all will help Farrah! As always you have my/our unending THANKS for your continued support of our SNDobies!! Shadow
!
|
July, 2019: This dear, handsome (now 7 year old), Dobe is Shadow. Shadow was taken in last year by Ann and her RescueAngels of Dog Mountain Rescue in California. Shadow returned home to CA from Hawaii along with his owner after his person's discharge from the service. Sadly, the owner's father and Shadow didn't enjoy each other's company and Shadow's former owner reluctantly brought him to Dog Mountain. Shadow is a good boy and all had been well until Shadow rejected his breakfast and was generally out of sorts. He was taken to their veterinarian and examined, given fluids and medications and sent home to recover. When he was given his medications, he immediately vomited - a definite red flag. Off to the vet once again and upon further examination and an ultrasound, an intestinal obstruction was discovered - poor dude!! Thankfully, Shadow was immediately transferred to another hospital that could do his surgery that night. Fast forward 2 days and the medical news is GREAT! Because of their rapid action, surgery was successful and the intestine did not sustain damage. Shadow has gone home and is recovering beautifully!! The financial news is NOT great!! As you can surmise, Shadow's examinations and work up were very expensive - not to mention his surgery that followed. Dog Mountain Rescue is a wonderful not for profit run by Ann, who has always had a special place in her heart for Dobes. Ann and her wonderful organization have come to us to help raise funds to pay dear Shadow's expenses. All you have to do is look at this irresistible face and I'll bet you'll tell all your canine loving friends to send a donation to SND to help this beautiful hunk of male Doberman. EVERY penny goes to Shadow's care and as an added bonus, you'll get the warm fuzzies knowing you helped this dear, sweet boy. Smooter
!
|
July, 2019: "Can You Help Us Save Our Boy?” is the cry for help we heard from the RescueAngels of United Doberman Rescue and Canine Castaways of Minnesota. Smooter is approximately 6 years old and he’d only been with UDR for three weeks when it became apparent that something was amiss. He was picked up as a stray in Texas and luckily he ended up in Minnesota at United Doberman Rescue. He may have been alone for quite some time as he is a very hungry boy and somewhere in his recent(?) past he ingested a corn cob. He had been in foster care for only a short time and corn on the cob had not been on the menu. So, it may have been in his gut for some time and finally made its way into the small intestine. He started getting sick July 7th and was taken specialty clinic, had X-rays and those vets concluded that they didn’t see anything of concern. Really?! He was sent home after an overnight stay and he was still very ill so his Fosters returned him to UDR so he could be watched more closely if the situation were to worsen. By that evening it was clear that Smooter was not getting any better so he was taken to UDR’s regular vet. After new x-rays and blood work were repeated and they reported an object in the small intestines; his electrolytes were all way off also. He was given fluids to rehydrate and potassium as it was low and were to do surgery to remove the "object" on Friday. By 4PM Thursday, Smooter was going into shock and was taken to an emergency vet immediately . Given his current condition and due to the rapid decline he was now showing it was immediate surgery or euthanasia. He was loaded up and driven, as fast as possible, to UMN Veterinary Medical Center. It was an hour drive and Smooter was very uncomfortable, throwing up some very nasty smelling stuff; he was clearly in serious distress. When they arrived at the Medical Center he was bloated and unable to walk, was rushed in and they did labs and X-rays again, and from noon to 6PM things looked much worse. The vets said he didn't have much time left and they weren't sure if they could save him. He was in shock and possibly going septic. He was prepped for surgery and by 9PM, he was out of surgery, resting comfortably in ICU and the corn cob had been removed. It was miraculous, his improvement was almost immediate. Smooter was also found to have a heart murmur which was very concerning, but there was no history of collapse or weakness that the UDR knew about. He was monitored closely overnight and kept on fluids and fentanyl to manage pain. Once pain med was stopped, he became brighter as time passed. He recovered so well from surgery, even with areas of the intestines that looked pretty bad but had begun to look normal againas they were finishing up. Smooter was eating only a few hours after surgery. Of course he still has a way to go with his recovery, but things are looking pretty good for Smooter at this time. We would love to help the rescue angels at United Doberman Rescue with their efforts to save this boy and we can with your help. This surgery and all the emergency visits that happened have mounted to a huge expense for this rescue but with help from people like you and me that love our Dobes, we can come to their rescue as they have rescued Smooter. They could have opted for euthanasia, which would have been way less money, but they decided that Smooter's life mattered and he was worth saving. Please help us help Mary and all the wonderful people who work so hard in rescuing these beautiful Dobeermans. You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or mailing in a donation - and, please, spread the word to all your friends on social media. Thank you ahead of time as I know you all always rally to help! Smooter will show you his smoochy-face if you just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. Thank you!! Willow
!
|
July, 2019: I’d like to tell you about 4 and a half year old Willow. Willow was confiscated as part of a June 2018 cruelty case in Pennsylvania where over 100 dogs were seized, many of them debarked. If you aren’t familiar with ‘debarking’, let me explain: when not done surgically, as in these cases, debarking is done by SHOVING a METAL PIPE down the dog’s throat to break up the vocal cords!! Willow was one of the many dogs who suffered this cruel, vile, blatant abuse! But that’s not all! Willow also presented with a broken front leg that was never treated and therefore healed improperly, a missing hip socket and she has a vision deficit due to a fractured skull. All of this along with being starved! When seized, Willow was taken to the PSPCA weighing only 31 lbs and still nursing 5 of her 10 surviving puppies. She spent 11 long months in the shelter, and although Dobermans especially do not do well in a shelter environment, Willow remained resilient, sweet and loving to all. When the abuse case was finally settled (yes, the perpetrator was jailed), Doberman Pinscher Rescue of PA was contacted and asked if they would take Willow in. The DPRPA Rescue Angels weren’t about to say no to this darling who had endured so much abuse in her short life. Willow is unable to run and play due to her leg and hip pain and the debarking has left her with consistent breathing difficulties. Her activity level is quite low as she can only tolerate 5 minute walks due to pain and shortness of breath. Willow’s surgical needs are quite expensive: one is to try to repair her throat and windpipe by reducing the scar tissue to increase the size of her throat, the other is to reduce her femur so there is no more bone striking bone when she walks which will reduce her pain. While her expenses are extraordinary, it hardly matches the extraordinary resilience and temperament of this precious girl. Let us please put our resources together and help DPRPA’s Rescue Angels in bringing Willow as close to a normal life as possible! NO amount is ever too small and every penny adds up - and, your gift is tax deductible as well. You can mail your donation or use PayPal (if using PayPal please click on ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ to make your donation ‘fee free’!!) Here's a picture of our recovering beauty, Miss Willow - Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org. June,
2019:
Darlene's
owners did a really bad job with her. And I do mean BAD! They probably
thought they were doing a great job as "responsible dog owners"
but they made a real mess out of this little girl -- and I'm pretty sure
it didn't take all of her 4 years to do it! She was an owner surrender,
but they changed their story several times so who knows the real reason.
I don't care what their reason was, I'm just glad sweet Melissa and Bluegrass
Doberman RescueAngels were there for her. The owners gave her up because
they were moving -- and oh yeah, a vet had given her a cortisone shot
in her rear leg. Arthritis… then the story changed to hip dysplasia.
They seemed to think both problems were the same thing and no big
deal. In the meantime she had very limited mobility and MUCH pain.
One look at her pictures and Melissa knew her knees were bad and
her pain was extreme. The Bluegrass Doberman Rescue Angels got her away
from this family as quickly as possible and straight to a vet. Getting
her pain under control was a priority, calming her fears will take longer.
Much longer. She is very sweet but afraid of the world. She avoids anything
she thinks might hurt her, which is pretty much everything including other
dogs and cats. In her world the sky is always falling. She's a picky
eater and will not eat from a dish -- just put it on the floor please!
Melissa says the pill in cheese trick only worked once, now she's wised
up! Hopefully she will settle down and begin to trust people soon again.
She's certainly in the best place for that! The cost of the surgeries
for each of her knees will be a substantial bill. SND has joined BDR in
the battle of the vet's bills--and we need your help too! You may begin
helping sweet Darlene by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. The
family gift option saves even more! You may also mail
one in. It doesn't matter how you care--it's that you do care!! For that

Morgan
!
|
June, 2019: At the tender age of just 4 months, this unfortunate puppy was already subjected to neglect and abuse. We will never know what happened to her, but we do know that her future will be bright. Morgan was found, very underweight and tied outside a restaurant, where she was spotted by a passerby. Locating the owner inside, this concerned citizen told this "owner" that the dog was emaciated and needed better care. And so, Morgan’s first owner offered to surrender her and she was taken to a new home where she was cared for and began to gain some weight. She was seen by a vet who found she had a UTI and 3 fecal parasites which were then treated. The vet expenses put a toll on her new family’s limited funds as did the stress and of trying to housebreak a puppy - particularly difficult with a puppy that was also recovering from a UTI. A few weeks later, her second family contacted Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Pennsylvania because they had “found Morgan outside and she was limping.” When they called the vet and learned that the exam and x-rays were going to be almost $500, they surrendered her to rescue as they could not afford it. DPRPA stepped right up and took her immediately to Penn Vet Emergency where x-rays confirmed a badly broken leg. Pre-suregery x-rays showed that Morgan did not have any broken ribs at that time, but there were images that showed she may have had prior rib fractures which had healed. What became very apparent was that Morgan had been neglected with lack of adequate nutrition at such a young age. This history has produced other medical issues - some orthopedic and some physiologic in nature - but she was very likely physically abused. This spunky pup is now recuperating post-surgery, eating voraciously, and endearing herself to all humans and pets in her foster home. We hope you can see it in your heart to contribute towards the extraordinary vet expenses that were critical to send Morgan on a new, happy, and safe life. Every cent you contribute will go to Morgan's veterinary expenses. You may begin by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, the gift option saves a few pennies more! You may also mail one in! Want to see this beauty with a bite-not donut around her neck? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org Thank you from SND, DPRPA, Morgan and me. Chuck

June, 2019: Talk about being "rode hard and put away wet"… Bluegrass Doberman Rescue got a call from a shelter in the south about a senior Dobie boy in bad shape - a stray with no known history. Melissa ran on down to pick up this old, red boy--and quickly realized he was no senior. Poor guy has bad, and I mean bad, demodex mange. Plus a load of heartworms, of course, he's from the south! Once they got a good look at him, they decided he was more likely around 4 years old. Chuck's foster Dad doesn't believe he is'nt even that old! He's thinks more around half that - and his own older Dobes heartily concur, damn young'un! So all in all he's a young red boy that is super sweet, a great snuggler and a quick learner. Hmmm… I bet someone could have many happy years with him, providing he's healthy. Want to help? Won't you join us in the ever-continuing battle against The Worm and the ignorance that allows the war to continue. Please consider joining BDR and SND in Chuck's rejuvenation!!! You may begin helping Chuck by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. The gift options give him even more--and you can always mail us your Get Well wishes!!! Every bit of help will go directly to Chuck! As always, we at SND and me particularly, appreciate your ongoing support of our SNDobies!! Carol Belknap, Darlene's SND Case Manager. |

Kira
!
|
June, 2019: We know very nearly nothing about this beautiful girl named Kira. She was probably about 6 years old and that she was dumped by her people. Likely the best thing that happened to her including being rescued by the wonderful folks at High Desert Doberman Rescue. We also came to know that she was a lovely girl with the sweetest face you have ever seen. Unfortunately she suffered a sudden onset of distress and difficulty breathing leading to collapse. She was quickly taken to the closest clinic with suspected bloat and torsion torsion. The vets did a needle decompression and administered fluids in an effort to stabilize her for transport to a specialty clinic in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Immediately after arrival at the specialty clinic, Kira was taken for exploratory surgery. Kira did in fact have torsion and too much of her stomach had infarcted to resect and to save her life. Sadly, Kira crossed the bridge in the Operating Room with help from the surgeon. This e,ergency surgery came at a very high cost - financially and emotionally as you can see from the picture on the left. They had no choice but to giver her the one chance at life she had left. HDDR is a fairly new, small rescue in a 'high Doberman dump" area in NM - a $4500 obligation will severely limit their ability to help the next Doberman they meet. Needless to say, they are in need of our help. We all praise and thank them for doing all that could be done for this beautiful Doberman lady! She was worth every dime spent and it's a terrible shame she could not be saved. Please help SND to help this rescue, I know they are devastated by her loss. You can make a tax deductible donation by using PayPal or mailing in your donation. Every cent helps no matter the amount and every cent will be used to defray Kira's final expenses. Thank you all who contribute and support the folks on the ground saving our Dobermans! Nancy Harwood, Kira's SND Case Manager.
Piper
!
|
June, 2019: Poor little 4 year old Piper, like so many blue Dobes, has skin problems. Only hers are very severe and seemingly endless -- and include resistant bilateral ear infections. Piper was a stray from Indiana who entered Bluegrass Doberman Rescue in late October 2018, VERY itchy and nearly bald. Sweet Melissa and various vets have been fighting her itchies ever since. It has been as uphill battle - but when has Melissa ever quit on a Dobe? I can say I have known her for many years and can confidently state, NEVER! Piper has gone through food trials and Cytopoint injections along with antibiotics. Eventually she was diagnosed with food allergies and recurrent staph infections. She's been getting monthly Cytopoint injections (not cheap), prescription food and treats, weekly medicated baths and was started on the staph vaccine in January. It doesn't help that she is low thyroid also, poor baby. Stop for a moment and think about the fact that she has gone through this torment her whole life, making it an itchy, living hell. FOUR years of it - and no one to care until BDR. Recent cultures have narrowed down the antibiotic search to Osurnia for both ears, with who knows what else to follow that… Melissa and her Angels have covered all the expense so far but it is time for SND--and you--to step in and help. Piper is a great DobeGirl who will be a much loved addition to someone's home once her medical issues are under control. Please help battle the itchies for Piper! You may begin by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, the gift option saves a few pennies more! You may also mail one in! It's all good and all very much appreciated! Your constant care of our sweet SNDobies has helped so many dogs who had no other hope that I am sincerely grateful every day knowing you are all out there. Rambo
!
|
June, 2019: This most handsome dude is seven year old Rambo. Rambo is a sweet boy who had been surrendered to a California animal shelter and, as per usual, we have no idea what his early background entails. His name certainly lends lie to his very sweet nature, though he could be Rambo to someone who loves him to be sure! What we do know is that late Dana Johnson from Northern California claimed him even though she was 'full house' at the time and placed him in boarding at her 'overflow' kennel. And there he was kept safe as time went by. Dana's health had been declining and eventually she succumbed to her illnesses. Recently, upon hearing about Rambo, the Rescue Angels of Dog Mountain Rescue were on their way to spring him from his long kennel stay and into their loving arms in search of a permanent forever family. This prospect will wait a bit longer in order to evaluate and take care of his medical needs. Rambo has several skin tags on him and at least one very large tag should be removed. Blood work will be done to assess his overall condition to be sure he can tolerate surgical intervention. Dog Mountain takes in many dogs with medical issues and they sure could use assistance from our SND community to help out with Rambo’s veterinary fees. You can mail your tax deductible gift or you can use PayPal (if using PayPal, please click on ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ to make your donation fee free). May I remind you that NO amount is ever too small?? Want another look at a Handsome Dude? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org and then, help, please!! Want to Sponsor A Senior Soldier? Cookie
!
|
May, 2019: Hello Doberman lovers wherever you are... I have a little redhead for you to take a look at. Her name is Cookie, probably because she is so very sweet. She is four years old, not spayed and is HW positive (surprised?). Cookie is with San Antonio Doberman Advocacy and Rescue in Texas. There is not much else known about Cookie except she is sweet and very friendly. She was an owner surrender (dump) to Harlingen Humane Society and it definitely looks like she has had at least one litter of pups - leaving who knows how many new Dobermans at risk of the same kind of treatment Cookie got! Are you wondering why such a sweet girl would be dumped by her owners? Well, it seems Cookie likes to chase small prey animals, chickens especially... imagine that! Gee whiz what a surprise!! I have had several Dobes over the years, some with a high prey drive some not so much, but it was never a thought to dump them because they liked to chase squirrels or anything else trying to get away. I had a big red male who liked to chase anything with wheels flying past. A few good training or re-training sessions and it was no longer a problem. Guess these "people" just didn't have the time or love for this beautiful, sweet girl to invest any time in training her OR to provide adequate veterinary care - like heartworm preventative! I would take her in a heartbeat if I could! In the meantime SADAR and Cookie need our help getting rid of her HW and getting her spayed so she can have a life with a family who will love and cherish her. As you probably already know these rescues are always strapped for funds and we are one of their resources to be able to care for these Dobes. So, whatever you can do would be much appreciated! You can help Cookie by using Pay Pal or mailing in a tax deductible donation. Thank you all for what you do for these precious creatures. THANKS for your continued support of our SNDobies!! Want another look at a Sweet Cookie? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org and then, HELP!! Thank you!! Nancy Harwood, SND Case Manager.
Gallagher
!
|
May, 2019: Meet Gallagher, a handsome Doberman AND yet just another statistic at 5 years of age. Just another stray because, WHAT? Abandoned? Escaped? Dumped? Regardless of the reason he was arrested for, the one fact that is for sure is that he wasn't getting proper care – He has HEARTWORM. Being HW positive in an overburdened Animal Control facility and being a Doberman and having heartworm to boot? That would have been a sure trip to the Blue Cocktail Bar! What a pity to lose this sweet Red boy!! Step in those Rescue Angels from San Antonio Doberman Advocacy and Rescue to thwart fate in the death of another beautiful Doberman. Heartworm treatment is NOT cheap and the aftercare can be long. Many rescues don’t have the room for these affected Dobes or financial resources to provide treatment, so sadly, many Dobes are not saved. All this for a totally preventable disease – if anyone cared that is… Well, the SADAR RescueAngels DO care and are bound and determined to save every Dobe they can – and they’ll do just that with our and YOUR help!! Won’t you? You can begin helping Gallagher with a tax-deductible gift by clicking his PayPal donate button on the right (and if your account allows, use the “Send money to friends or family” option to keep your gift fee-free). Of course, you may mail one in if your prefer – it’s ALL Dobe Dollars!! THANK YOU all for your continued support for these less fortunate members of our Doberman family!! Help us help Gallagher and SADAR continue their mission! SND Case Team rooting for Gallagher!! Join us! |

Sweet
Willie !
|
April, 2019: Meet Sweet Willie, an eight year old Doberdude that, no surprise, we have no history on whatsoever. To some, he’s just another throw away dog that landed in a shelter. But to the Rescue Angels of Dobies and Little Paws Rescue in Fillmore, California, Sweet Willie is a gem, and he needed help so, as in their true fashion, they stepped up for him. Sweet Willie was classifed as a "rescue only" (or he would’ve been PTS - an old dog, especially an old Doberman he didn't have much of a chance of surviving) because he had obvious multiple tumors all over his body, some quite large! He did undergo surgery and the vet even cancelled two appointments to be able to operate on Willie longer. But even at that, the largest tumor took so long to excise and close, that the last tumor, one on his toe, wasn’t able to be taken care of. Sweet Willie will most likely lose that toe, and the surgery will take longer than what was safe to keep Sweet Wiilie under anesthesia, so that issue will be addressed at a later date. Tumor tissue was sent to be biopsied so please keep all paws crossed for good news! Willie’s bill for treatment is going to be steep, and he still has another surgery to go as well as post-op care (and hopefully no complications). Dobies and Little Paws take in so many medical cases on a continual basis, they are requesting assistance from our SND family. The only way our rescues can stay solvent is with our help. Please remember, NO donation is ever too small and your gift is tax deductible. You can mail your donation or use PayPal (if using PayPal, and you are able to, please click on ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ to make your donation fee free). The rescues, our beloved Dobes and we at SND are eternally grateful for your support! Please check back for a link for Sweet Willie who will soon have a Senior Page of his own so you can send him a Sponsorship if you like! THANKS!! Beth McCahren, SND Case Manager. |

Farrah
!
|
Brenda
!
|
April, 2019: Beautiful Brenda... only 2 years old and almost lost in the system. It never ceases to amaze me just how many gorgeous, sweet souls are relegated to shelters. For me, it's like finding Krugerrands in the garbage. From seniors to purebred puppies, sadly these precious souls are treated just like trash by so-called humane humans. It's a daily unmentioned and little regarded national disgrace. Case in point is this dear, beautiful young girl, Brenda. She's only 2, but found herself in a California shelter. Happily, for her and the rest of us, dear Brenda was found by the rescue angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Fillmore, California and she's been whisked away in their loving arms. Even before she was out of the kenned at the shelter, her angels spotted a very angry entropion eyelid... and the other is not looking so good, either. Lovely Brenda was taken to the amazing Dr. Hector, who has given health and happiness to so many Dobermans for Ardis and Doberman Pinscher Rescue. This is a delicate surgery and considering how many Dobermans Ardis has under her kind wings, Doberman Pinscher Rescue has come to SND for our help. With surgery, dear Brenda will soon be able to see comfortably, not go blind… and find a loving home. You can begin helping Miss Brenda now by clicking on the PayPal button to the right - remember gift options give even more! You may also mail one in if you prefer - that's fee-free too. As you know, every cent donated goes to helping pay for the medical care and surgery for the Dobermans of SND - we do not pay our administrators, case managers, web designers or anyone else. Please, look at this gorgeous face and help Brenda have a lifetime of healthy vision so she can run and play with others. Thank you! Leslie Michell-Young, SND Case Manager - forever in Beautiful Brenda's corner! |

Cinnabon
!
|
April, 2019: Let me tell you about Cinnabon because she is pretty much a medical miracle!! Cinnabon was rescued from a shelter by the Rescue Angels of Dobies and Little Paws in Fillmore, California. No history on her at all. No obvious ailments and just as sweet as can be. Cinnabon was vetted and scheduled for a routine spay (as all of their Dobes are prior to adoption). During the spay a hole was noted in the roof of her mouth due to a cleft palate. This was quite a surprise because most canines with a cleft palate don’t make it out of puppyhood and Cinnabon is approximately 4 years old!! While under anesthesia it was decided to close up the open area to prevent the future possibility of respiratory infections and/or aspiration pneumonia as either could potentially be deadly. Unfortunately, following surgery Cinnabon began bleeding profusely and continued having difficulty with hemorrhaging for an entire week! Each day brought a new complication and Cinnabon almost lost her life due to blood loss. Even the insertion of a tiny feeding tube caused bleeding. As if that wasn’t enough, the closure reopened! At the present time, surgery will not be attempted to reclose the cleft palate and Cinnabon will need to be managed very carefully with a special diet and close supervision. So you see, Cinnabon is indeed a miracle, first by actually living to adulthood and then by barely escaping losing her life. As you can only imagine, although it was well worth it, Cinnabon’s care was very costly and her Rescue Angel’s have come to SND for assistance. Let us please pull together and support Dobies and Little Paws so they can continue caring for special needs dogs like Cinnabon. You can begin helping Cinnabon by clicking on the PayPal button to the right or by mailing one in!! NO gift is ever too small and your donation is tax deductible. Just need another taste of eye candy? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org and then help!! Thank you!! SND, the Dobies and Little Paws Rescue Angels, and especially Cinnabon who are forever grateful for your continued generosity. Beth McCahren, SND Case Manager
Miranda
!
|
April, 2019: At 18 months old, Miranda is a tiny 22 1/2" tall, allegedly her pedigree is good... and she undoubtedly is all Doberman! Miranda and her brother were brought to the States from a breeder in Mexico. What? Couldn't find a BYB stateside?? The US breeder/buyer promptly dumped Miranda on a "friend" who kept her outside and obviously abused her. Once they found out what was happening, they got her back -- they claim she was a completely normal puppy before their friend got hold of her. Friend?? Of what?? Claiming to be "responsible breeders" themselves, they admitted they didn't have time to re-hab her and gave her to rescue (rescues always have the time don't they?) Lucky, lucky little girlie wound up with Bluegrass Doberman Rescue and Sweet Melissa and there will be all the time she needs until she is ready to go to a loving forever home! She has already gone from being afraid of people to timidly warming up to them. She loves other dogs and is great with kitties too! The vet's office peeps love her, she is so easy to take care of. Vet's office you say? Why you ask, being her breeder was responsible and all? Yup, not such great people either - she has heartworm. This little girl is our latest victim in the worm wars. She is so young, so sweet, so very worth saving! Someone will be very lucky to get this little former senorita!! Won't you help Miss Miranda Consuela Foster? You may begin helping her by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Using the gift option saves even more precious pennies… or you may just mail one in! No help is ever too small, especially for this tiny puppy-girl! You of the Doberman community, you who are reading this --Thank you from the bottom of my heart for you continued support of these wonderful dogs. You really help cure the "people damage" they suffer from. Want to see our newest charming princess? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org and then please send some love !!Thank You!!! Capone
!
|
March, 2019: Have you ever heard of CRISP? It is a large group of Chicago Rescues who work together to help to help stem the number of dogs entering shelters. They are Chicagoland Rescue Intervention and Support Program - and they do wonderful things to help owners with the reasons they are surrendering their dog. CRISP helps in myriad ways. It might be paying vet bills when it is beyond the owner's means. It might be training support for behavioral problems. They offered their options to 5 year old Capone's owners when they brought him in for euthanasia, but to no avail. They said he hadn't stood up for over a week. CRISP offered to take him to a local emergency clinic - and to pay for it all. They declined and wouldn't even bring him inside for evaluation - the CRISP volunteers did that. They surrendered (read: DUMPED) him and left. Lulu's Locker Rescue was on duty for CRISP that day and became his saviors, noticing how sweet he was in spite of his condition. They decided on veterinary intervention and diagnosis before letting the shelter put him down. Bloodwork showed him to be dehydrated, but otherwise healthy. After 3 days with IV fluids, nerve pain meds and food, he was standing and taking tentative steps - and the vet staff was raving about his fantastic disposition. So Lulu's Locker was committed and had the perfect foster for him! Deena fit him seamlessly into her household (Second Chance Doberman Alumnus, Leonidas & a foster Pittie.) Deena, his Foster Mom, says she has never seen a sweeter dog than Capone, typically Velcro. He is doing fine, with the help of a harness, to go in and out. Although he is somewhat unsteady and still intact… (BYB's with an intact cripple? Of course they DUMPED him!) his super sweet temperament shines through. He is a jewel and will make someone a wonderful companion. They are working on getting him diagnosed. He has been seen by their regular vet but she does not have MRI capability so he is probably heading for Purdue University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. As of now they are discussing possibly Wobbler's or IVDD. CRISP has fund-raised for part of the bills so far - and Lulu's Locker volunteers have also raised some Capone funds - but so much more will be needed with the MRI coming soon. They have asked SND for help and we have joined their effort, he is one of our own after all! Please consider helping Capone in any way you can! No amount is ever too small and no help unappreciated! You may begin helping this blue beauty by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, friends and family gift option helps even more! I will be sending out a little something by snail mail - and you can too!! Once more, thank you most sincerely for your continued support of our SNDobies!!! You Rock!! Edmundo
!
|
March, 2019: The handsome and robust senior boy you see here is Edmundo, a lovely 8 year old that Doberman and Little Paws Rescue in Fillmore, California rescued from starvation and homelessness this past fall. After some time spent with loving rescuers, quality groceries and top shelf veterinary care, this lonely, skinny boy became a beautiful, happy Doberman. All has been well until about a week ago when it was discovered Edmundo was lethargic and listless. After a quick glance at his gums - which were white - he was rushed to the vet. He was given a laxative to get the contents of his stomach moving, and when, after an overnight stay, there was no result, it was concluded poor Edmundo had an obstruction... and he certainly did! Once in surgery, his vet discovered a work glove crammed in his digestive system... a place no work glove should be. No one knows where it could have came from - but we all know how resourceful our Dobes are where determination is concerned. Needless to say, Edmundo's surgery saved his life. We are always forever grateful to Ardis and DALPR for the lifetime of love and dedication to our beloved breed. Thanks to her DALPR army, Edmundo now is feeling much better and recovering well after his dietary indiscretion. Obstruction surgery is very expensive and risky, and it's one of the things that is always a concern for rescues - Doberman Pinscher Rescue is no different. They have come to their friends at Special Needs Dobermans for financial help to pay Edmundo's surgical and follow up care bills. Without the work DALPR does, it would be a very different story for this dear, beautiful boy. Please dig in your pockets and send a donation to SND for this sweet, handsome prince. Please begin helping Edmundo by clicking on the PayPal button to the right or by mailing one in!! We are ALL so appreciative of your support!! Hayden
!
|
March, 2019: Hayden is a rambunctious 2 year old, and like most 2 year olds, he is quite curious. We know parents need to be on their toes to keep youngsters, both 2 and 4 legged safe, but Hayden’s former family(?) weren’t concerned with his safety and in turn, Hayden frequently went on ‘unaccompanied’ excursions. He was picked up by animal control numerous times. Finally, the fee to get Hayden back was more than the previous owner wanted to pay, plus they didn’t want to agree to have him neutered, so he was dumped at the shelter (family?? more like backyard greeders!). The Rescue Angels of Dog Mountain Rescue in Willits, California were notified and they agreed to take Hayden in and find him a truly loving home. Upon Hayden’s initial vet exam, it was noted that not only was the previous owner negligent regarding his safety, but his health as well. Hayden had a badly damaged ball of his ball and socket joint that was left untreated. Accident? Congenital? Maybe... but if the former, he'll not be able to pass it on now! Can you imagine his pain? Hayden required a FHO (femoral head osteotomy), which is basically the removal of the ball of the ball and socket, to make him comfortable and increase the quality of his young life. Surgery is always costly, and especially so in California. SND would like to assist DMR with Hayden’s medical fees but we can’t do it without the help of our faithful followers. If you could, a donation of ANY amount is greatly appreciated. Your gift is tax deductible and helps our devoted rescues save even more needy Dobermans. You can begin helping Hayden by clicking on the PayPal button to the right or by mailing one in!! We at SND and DMR are eternally grateful for any assistance you can offer. Princess
!
|
March, 2019: Whenever one hears the tales of those who love their dogs, one often comes across the heroism of those who rescue... and a stellar example of this heroism is embodied in this beautiful 7 year old's story. Princess, too, is a hero. Her owner, who raised her since puppyhood, found himself with terminal cancer. As time went by, Princess's Dad became weak and bed bound and contacted his relatives to get Princess to Doberman Rescue of Nevada and him into hospice care. The man's son brought dear Princess to DRNV the same morning her loving friend died. Princess was frightened and skinny - she spent the last days of her owner's life curled up on the bed with him, not willing to leave his side. She was so exhausted she fell asleep in the volunteer's lap within minutes of her surrender. This darling girl has been taken to DRNV's veterinarian and her evaluation is mostly good - however, she has a nasty, cracked canine which is obviously giving her some discomfort, and she has a skin tag on her chest that needs removal and biopsy. She has made progress emotionally and is eating well and is engaging and showing her true, noble Doberman spirit. It's certain she misses her master, but she seems ready to share her life and make new friends. She is a truly loving, intelligent and beautiful girl, and she deserves only the very best. John and Pat have given countless Dobermans a new start to a beautiful life, but this does not come cheaply. Princess will need funds for her upcoming dental surgery and removal and biopsy of the skin tag. DRNV has come to us to seek your help. Princess is truly a hero, and we are so grateful to her former owner for making sure Princess landed in safe and loving arms - all dogs should be as fortunate. Please honor them both by sending a donation to Special Needs Dobermans to help DRNV and Princess. Every cent goes to help her medical costs. Misty
London !
|
March, 2019: Misty London... she is just as beautiful and sweet as her name implies. Nonetheless, this 8 year young beauty wound up in a Los Angeles shelter even though she had recently had surgery for mammary cancer. The shelter coordinator was astute (not to mention very caring) in realizing Misty needed more medical observation than they, as a busy shelter, were ill-equipped to provide - not to mention, because of her previous cancer diagnosis, finding Misty a suitable home would be a challenge at best. Kudos are due for their foresight and for reaching out to the Rescue Angels of Doberman Pinscher Rescue of Fillmore, California for their expertise and help. DPR welcomed Misty London and planned to foster her until they were sure she was cancer free. For several months all was going well, but unfortunately, a suspicious growth appeared at the same site as her previous cancer. A biopsy was done and the recommendation is to have the growth removed ASAP. Misty’s heart still has a lot of love to give and receive! Won’t you please help DPR provide this for dear Misty? NO amount is ever too small and your tax deductible gift in total will go toward Misty’s care. Just click on the links here and you can begin helping Miss Misty now - the PayPal button to the right - remember gift options give even more! You may also mail one in if you prefer - that's fee-free too. Thank you, from Dobies and Little Paws, her Personal Angel Robert AND of course, beautiful Misty London! Rocky
!
|
March, 2019: This precious boy is a stellar example of what a male Doberman should be - loving, licking, leaning and happy. It is difficult to imagine, then, why this dear guy is so lovable given the way he's been treated. Rocky is only two years old and somehow, he got away from his person (ugh...) and was hit by a car, resulting in a fracture of both bones of the right lower foreleg. So, what does this person do? Of course, he waits several days and then dumps Rocky at the local shelter. Then, this poor dog waits a total of twenty days without treatment until someone at the shelter had to presence of mind to contact Rescue Angel at Doberman Rescue on Nevada. Naturally, they came and picked up Rocky themselves, immediately, whereupon he was taken to their veterinarian. This dear boy sat in Pat's lap and washed her face during the entire transport... he is a dear, sweet treasure. Rocky is still being evaluated. His injuries were neglected for so long that the bones have begun to heal on their own, albeit misaligned. What we need to know is will Rocky benefit from some corrective orthopedic surgery, or should his leg be left as is... or is amputation the best option for him? At the moment, his doctors are making sure Rocky is not carrying any infection from his misfortunes. This dear boy is SO wonderful. Doberman Rescue of Nevada does their best to help dogs like Rocky, but Rocky's evaluation and treatment is going to be costly, and they have come to SND for help. Please, look at this baby's face and donate what you can. He's so young, and should live his life pain free. Every cent goes to help Rocky's veterinarian's find the best solution for this lovely boy. Madonna
!
|
February, 2019: At 3 or 4 years old, Madonna is another southern gal who lost her way, but she was lucky--she ended up in a rural vet’s office. He determined she had sarcoptic mange but was heartworm free. People tried to help this mangy little stray from the start - another rescue tried to find a place for her but couldn’t. No one wanted to expose their own dogs. Only Melissa and her Angels at Bluegrass Doberman Rescue carried through on the promise of help. Nothing backs Melissa down, not even sarcoptic mange. Melissa has a wonderful foster who has dealt with this problem many times. She was hand in the air volunteering to help this little girl. In fact, after testing it turns out the first vet was wrong, no mange there at all. She has a horrid yeast infection. It only made sense to re-check the heartworm test, and the vet was 0 for 2, there were plenty heartworms there! Plus she has a bit of a club foot (which Melissa says only adds to her beautiful character) that appears to be a birth defect. She is just such a sweet southern girl, she gets along great with everyone, and after several baths and some antibiotics she feels a whole lot better. She is looking forward to life! But now we need to tackle the heartworms (come on, you knew that was coming...). Please join BDR and SND in the war. You can begin helping Madonna by clicking on the PayPal button to the right or by mailing one in—it all works!! We will fight this war, worm by worm! I know I always say thank you, and I always mean it, most sincerely. No amount is too small and no help too little for Madonna – who does sing! She is a real Dobie-singer, especially in the car! Picture that for a moment, smile and then take another moment to help her. Just need another close-up of our Poster Girl?? Just click right here and smile!! https://www.doberman911.org!! Sable
!
|
February, 2019: Sable's story starts out as many sad doggie stories do... poor old girl of at least 8 years, abandoned on the mean streets, limping and alone. Sable was swept up and taken to the local animal shelter, where she waited and waited, not even knowing for what. A year goes by and a shelter person thinks Sable has Wobbler's. This does not sound like a stroke of divine luck - but it is. The shelter, realizing they cannot afford to treat a dog with Wobbler's, reached out to Doberman Underground, who, of course, would help this beautiful 8 year old girl. After a number of CT scans, exams and x-rays the news is better than imagined - Sable has arthritis in most of her joints but can be managed with anti-inflammatory medication. She will be feeling much better for years to come and hopefully find a loving person to share her life with! Wonderful outcomes like this don't come for free, however. Sable's procedures to discover her diagnosis were well over $1000.00 - a lot for the RescueAngels at Doberman Underground, who are presently treating FOUR more of their charges with HWT. Doberman Underground has come to SND for our assistance to raise funds to help pay Sable's veterinary bills. We all adore seniors - look at this dear one's face! Every cent helps and goes directly to Sable's care. She's just beautiful, wouldn't you agree? Please help this doll keep smiling! She'll also be asking for a Senior Sponsorship so you can help her like that too - we'll post that link when it's available. You can begin helping Miss Sable now by clicking on the PayPal button to the right - remember gift options give even more! You may also mail one in if you prefer - that's fee-free too. Thank you, from Doberman Underground, beautiful Sable and me, Leslie Michell-Young, Sable's SND Case Manager and new friend. |

Major
!
|
February, 2019: Dear Major survived his five years on earth and the best of those years was the time he spent with his RescueAngels at Dog Mountain Rescue in Northern California. Major was lucky to be taken in here after he had been dumped by his trusty person who needed to get on with his own life by going back to school - sounds like this person has more than one lesson to learn in life. This area apparently has more than a goodly share of abandoned and stray pets when their people have more important things to do - rather than honor a commitment to a creature who gave them more than they felt obliged to give back. Major's rapid demise started the weekend of the 15th with a skipped breakfast, refused dinner and an emergency trip to the vet in the morning. The vet thought perhaps he had a touch of pneumonia as his lungs sounded congested. He was sent home with strong antibiotics to see what would resolve over the weekend. By Monday morning he was much worse and rushed to the vet where x-rays showed his lungs were rapidly filling with blood. It became obvious quickly that he could not survive whatever spontaneous issue was causing this hemorrhaging. Major was released from his agony and he suffered no more. We all know how hard it is to try your hardest only to lose after a valiant (and expensive) effort... In the end, in order to protect the other wards of DMR, extensive tests were run to exclude possible bacterial or viral pathogens which could have caused this rapid onset and collapse of dear Major and become a danger to the other residents. The tests all came back negative leading his vet to speculate some occult form of DCM, the very disease that takes so many of our breed. Please help us keep DMR solvent so they can continue their excellent works for our breed! You can begin helping by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, remember gift options give even more! You may also mail one in if you prefer - that's fee-free too. Thank you for your continuing support!! SND's Case Management Team. |

Ramses
!
|
February, 2019: How precious this face is!! Meet five year old Doberdude Ramses! Ramses has a history that is a little different than what we are used to as he is an ‘owner surrender’ to Georgia Doberman Rescue. A ‘few months ago’ Ramses ruptured his ACL. When his owner was told this news, she was also told he needed surgery and that his prognosis following surgery is quite good. Now, we all know knee surgery (TPLO or TTA) doesn’t come cheap. Ramses’ previous owner tried to find a surgeon at a cost she could afford, however, she was unsuccessful. She didn’t want Ramses to live in pain because she was unable to provide the care he needed so she decided to reach out to GDR, asking them to provide Ramses the needed surgery as well as find him a new home where he could be better cared for. The GDR Rescue Angels knew they couldn’t say no and let Ramses continue in pain. Poor guy, he has life altering events coming at him back to back - losing his home and facing surgery and recovery. The GDR Angels are determined Ramses is going to be good as new and will be placed into the perfect home. GDR has come to SND for assistance in providing the needed operation so Ramses can start anew. If you can, could you please send a donation of ANY amount to help SND assist GDR in offsetting the cost of Ramses’ knee surgery? NO amount is ever too small and will be greatly appreciated by SND and GDR. US mail is an option for donating as is PayPal (if using PayPal, please click on the ‘friends and family’ and ‘send money’ tabs to ensure your gift is ‘fee free’!). Want to see another look at this gorgeous Dude?? Just click right here and smile!! https://www.doberman911.org!! Thank you all so much for your gracious and continued support!! Baxter
!
|
January, 2019: Baxter is 4 years old and humans have dropped the ball with him for all his 4 years. In some cases they probably even thought they were doing right by him. (Begin cursing here...) Baxter was an owner surrender out of North Carolina. Melissa and Bluegrass Doberman Rescue have been able to find out some of his sad history. Two years ago he was pulled from a shelter by a Georgia rescue, hopefully not a Dobe rescue! He was then adopted to a guy who thought a rabies shot was more than enough vet care. He refused all vaccines, heartworm tests, fecals, neutering—nothing. That was owner #1 AFTER rescue. A year later this gem was tired of him and gave him away. Those owners decided they weren’t taking him with them when they moved… so they surrendered him. Again, no medical care in home #2. Oh, wait, they also gave him a rabies shot! Such loving care! Although somewhere in there he did pick up some buckshot… No more! Melissa placed him in a foster home that will fail—in all the good ways!! Baxter won’t be going anywhere, him and his foster-Dad are just 2 single guys hanging out together. Makes a nice picture, doesn’t it? Someone who will throw the ball, not drop it! In the mean time he still has to lose the worms and that’s where we come in. BDR and SND will fight another round in the endless fight, want to join us? You can begin helping Baxter by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. If gift options are available, they save even more! You may also mail one in, it’s all good! I want to thank all you who fight this worm war with me. I always bring you worms and you come back for more! Just need another look at Darling Dude?? Just click right here and smile!! https://www.doberman911.org!! Thank you!!! Carol Belknap Baxter’s SND Case Manager and Untiring Worm Warrior. |

Atticus
!
|
January, 2019: When Atticus was about a year old he was found by South Carolina animal control. He’d been left for dead by other dogs after they ripped him up. His wounds are severe, and because he is heartworm positive, the shelter slated him for death. Instead an animal control officer reached out to rescue, and that rescue was Bluegrass Doberman Rescue. The kind AC Officer got him to a vet for wound care, antibiotics and pain meds while our own sweet Melissa arranged a temporary foster home for him until she can get him to Louisville (tomorrow - January 28!) and into the arms of an anxious new foster-family. Who wouldn’t want him? Just look at that face!! So this all means BDR and SND are asking for help getting him all stitched up, healthy and neutered. He is a sweetie who is great with dogs, cats, strangers and pain. He’ll make a super companion for someone for years to come. If that sounds like an outcome you can get behind—please help now! You can begin helping Atticus by clicking on the PayPal button to the right, remember gift options give even more! The post office will deliver your check in the mail right to our front door! It all works, and more worms will die!!! Thank you!! For being here to read this, case after case—and then helping! Thank you so much!! Carol Belknap, Atticus’s SND Case Manager |

Ernest
!
|
January, 2019: Ernest is a good ole red boy, probably 8 years old and sweet as sugar. It’s hard to say what his life was like as he was seized from a hoarder. I’d like to think he had a loving family most of his life… Anyway, he wound up in a Georgia shelter—until Bluegrass Doberman Rescue came to the rescue! Whatever happened before was never going to happen again! On his ride to freedom, he seemed fine. Once at the vet’s he did prove to be heartworm positive—but it was such a light load it was decided to go ahead with his neuter. The day after his surgery Ernie didn’t seem to be feeling well, plus his back left leg was starting to swell. X-rays found nothing, but he did have a high fever. He stayed at the vet’s overnight, started on antibiotics with a shot and also started pain meds. Ernie was a little better the next day but his leg was still very swollen. He was quickly moved to Louisville and put in the care of Melissa’s vet. He was now getting 2 antibiotics, prednisone and the pain meds and was more swollen than ever, poor boy. More bloodwork came back normal—except for the heartworms, but at least the swelling was subsiding. Without the swelling it was clear the problem was in his knee and he got more X-rays and an ultrasound. This showed a cruciate tear and arthritis; which doesn’t explain the mystery infection. Before heartworm treatment, before treatment on his knee, the infection must be gone, so he’s camped at Melissa’s and loving it! He spends most of his time sleeping or chewing on his bone. He has decided he prefers his meals served to him in bed so he doesn’t have to get up! Melissa always has been a great Dobe spoiler and he is a very willing learner! This sweet guy loves cats, dogs, people-you name it. He deserves to be well and be loved for all of his last years. Please consider joining BDR and SND in making this happen!! You can begin helping Ernest by clicking on the PayPal button to the right (gift options save even more, or by mailing one in. Anyway you do it, it will all help this sweet goof get better and hopefully find a home of his own. Thank you so much for your constant support of our SNDobies -- especially all the HW+ cases I’m always throwing at you... and with no end in sight, sigh. So, THANK YOU!! Carol Belknap, Ernest’s SND Case Manager and fan. Want another peek at Ernest being earnest?? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org!! |

Ranger
!
|
January, 2019: Last April 3 year old Ranger was a stray in a Tennessee shelter. He was lucky enough to be saved by sweet Melissa and her band of Rescue Angels at Bluegrass Doberman Rescue. He was a sweetheart—what red Dober-boy would cause trouble? He had gotten his vaccines and heartworm test at the shelter, his foster-Mom in Ohio had him neutered and he was good to go!! After only a few weeks he found a home in Indiana with a sassy little red Dober-girl for a playmate. Life looked great! Only that sassy little girl was never 100% thrilled to have him living with her - he was young, goofy and a boy. At this "Hmmm… moment" the adult daughter of the household and her daughter moved out of the family home. Only they couldn’t leave Ranger—they loved him too much. They kept taking him to their new home for long, loving visits. Someone had the wonderful idea of them becoming the adopters! The sassy red girl approved of the idea and the daughter successfully went through the adoption process with flying colors! Finally life was absolutely perfect and Ranger was home. Only now Ranger wasn’t feeling so good. He got rechecked for everything and guess what… HW+!! This was a shock after the negative test but it can take months to show positive—he’d been positive all along. Melissa and BDR have taken responsibility for killing these damned worms and SND has joined their fight. How about you? I haven’t brought you a heartworm case in weeks!! So let’s begin helping Ranger by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Don’t forget the friends gift option, if available. Or just mail one in! It really doesn’t matter how or how much—it’s all good—and all Ranger’s!! Thank you so much!! Carol Belknap, Ranger’s SND Case Manager. |

Sounder
!
|
January, 2019: This lovely 8(?) year old boy is Sounder, who found himself in a California shelter listed as a stray. Apparently, he was found in a rural field and no one seems to know where this dear boy came from. Fortunately for all of us, our friend and hero, Ann of Dog Mountain Rescue caught wind of him and scooped him up. Shortly before the holidays commenced, Sounder's caregivers noticed a wound on his left rear leg, and of course, being the holidays, the vets were closed. Sounder's caregivers sprayed him with wound lotion on his leg, and monitored the wound. His leg did not show any improvement, and in fact, the leg looked worse. Sounder has been taken to the veterinarian, and we still don't know what is causing this or what his prognosis is. Sounder is a very quiet, sweet boy who is just beginning to warm up to his people and surroundings. Being a blue, he has CDA (color dilution alopecia ) and his skin condition was, needless to say, quite sketchy when rescued. Good groceries, love and veterinary care is something blue Dobermans need in abundance, and finally, Sounder is getting that... however, this doesn't come cheap. Please send in a donation to Special Needs Dobermans. Ann, of Dog Mountain Rescue has rescued and rehabilitated hundreds of worthy dogs (what dog isn't) and has devoted her heart to helping the less fortunate. You donation will go directly to Sounder and you'll know he's getting the care he needs to be a lucky someone's best boy. Donate now by clicking on the PayPal button on the right (use the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ if your account allows and that will keep your donation fee free), or you can always mail your donation. Just have to have a closer look at Beautiful Blue?? Just click right here https://www.doberman911.org!! Thank you from SND, Ann, Sounder and me, Les Michell-Young, SND Case Manager - A lover of the Blues! |

December 2018 Still Active Cases
Sherman
!
|
December,
2018:
What
a difference a day makes! Sherman was released from the hospital as he improved
very markedly overnight. He's got a way to go before the he's released from
further treatments but at this rate, we're all hopeful for a GREAT recovery!
Keep this darling imp in your thoughts and THANKS to all that are a part
of this magnificent effort!! New picture also posted on the home page for
the Cover Pup here https://www.doberman911.org. December, 2018: Baby Sherman’s story is sad from Day 1. His mom, Delby is dying of breast cancer. She’s 2 years old. She came to rescue pregnant and once she littered, her cancer just took off growing like crazy. Upshot of this, Sherman and company were weaned at 4 weeks. At 8 weeks old he went home with his new family. They say all went well for 3 weeks. Then he drank out of the same water bowl, after a walk, at the same time as the resident adult female Shepherd. The Shepherd decided to kill little Sherman - she would not let go and had to be beaten off of him. The adopters immediately called Mary at United Doberman Rescue to say they wanted to surrender him back. OMG!! They had no credit, no money and were only willing to transport him part way because it was snowing. They did get him to a vet in Northern Minnesota who stabilized and tranquilized him for his journey. One eye was missing. One leg appeared to be broken and his face was just shattered. A tag team effort finally got him to Mary. His face was too swollen to be recognizable as a dog. Certainly not as the happy puppy she had last seen. She rushed him to University of Minnesota Veterinary Hospital. The doctors were literally waiting at the door for Sherman and Mary. They kept him as pain-free as possible overnight in the ICU before beginning CT scans and surgeries in the morning. They started trying to fix his jaw. It’s broken in multiple places and the jaw bone joint is crushed. There is a very real concern he may have trouble opening and closing his mouth in future. They did, in fact, find his eye—deep back in his head, but it is not responding to stimuli. Lots of bone fragments are lodged all around the eyeball itself. No guesses on how this will play out. The teeth on that side are showing pockets of air around them and will ultimately have to come out. He also has some fractures of his nasal cavity which will hopefully heal on their own. Wow! The estimate is between $6-8 thousand as of now. Wow!! Please, please help UDR and SND in this battle. Please remember all donations will be doubled by Secret Santa until December 31st! You can begin helping dear Sherman by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Gift options to friends saves even more! The mail may be snail but it works just fine too - and if your check is dated 31 December or earlier, Santa will pay! This little guy thanks you for any help you might give him! And so do I, thank you that is… without you, the Doberman Community, he’d just be another dog dying because of a stupid - this was NOT an accident!! Need someone to pull on your heart strings?? Just click here https://www.doberman911.org.Thank you so much for caring and for giving Sherman the chance to be whole and happy again as he deserves!!!! Carol Belknap, Sherman’s SND Case Manager and newest fan. No better reason to make Santa pay than this little guy!! |

Cersei
!
|
December, 2018: People have let Cersei down for all of her 9 years. Nobody cared enough to spay her, or to keep her safe. Even rescue has let her down, she was adopted out intact for one thing. Then after she was hit by a car and left to die in the road, they were unwilling to help her. This sweet girl had no reason to trust people, none at all... not until High Desert Doberman Rescue that is. Cersei has truly and finally been rescued by Anthony and his Rescue Angels!! They rushed Cersei right to Vista Hills Animal Hospital and Dr. Shinault. Dr. Shinault is a Doberman advocate and has gone above and beyond for her. He truly is a Dober-Angel! Both of Cersei’s hind legs were injured, one required surgery to insert a pin to stabilize her hip and the old sweetie's other leg is in a cast - but she has lots of loving help and will never have to go through life alone again. HDDR has asked SND to help—which means I am asking the Doberman community to show this old lady how many people do care!!! You can begin to help Cersei by clicking on the PayPal button to the right. Gift options mean even more goes to the dog! USPS gets the job done too, I use it! No amount is too small to show her you care. I sincerely thank you all for your continued support of our beloved SNDobies!!!!! Don’t forget Secret Santa will match your donation thru December. 31st!!!! We're waiting for more pix of this dear Lady but you can visit our newest Poster Dame here https://www.doberman911.org!! Thank you! Carol Belknap, Cersei’s SND Case Manager & fan. |

Blaze
!
|
December, 2018: Many of us who have been around SND (or involved in any animal rescue) for any amount of time have heard this scenario over and over. A dog is dumped, banished, thrown away because of the arrival of a child. This is what happened to this beautiful boy, but his story is perhaps the most severe and cruel. Blaze was a family member since he was 8 weeks old - he's 8 years old now. When the female partner (I refuse to call her human or even humane for that matter) arrived home from the hospital with said offspring, Blaze was tossed into the back yard in the Las Vegas heat wearing a ratty coat and a mere awning for protection. This poor boy endured the desert heat and the cold winds of winter for weeks on end. He became lonely and bored - so lonely in fact, that he started a lick granuloma on his leg that has literally become life threatening. When he was finally surrendered to Doberman Rescue of Nevada, he was filthy. He was still wearing the same ratty coat he wore when he was tossed outside, his poor leg oozing and swollen. He is covered in lumps and bumps... but he has an indomitable and happy spirit. This dear boy is a world class winner! Team Getter - John and Pat of DRNV - immediately have undertaken to save Blaze's life. His leg is being treated aggressively with laser and other interventions and he is responding, the lipomas and bumps are also being assessed. It is clear that Blaze's rehabilitation is going to be prolonged and expensive... but look at this face! This wonderful Dobe shines like a beacon. Doberman Rescue of Nevada has saved many, many Dobes and some of those Dobes have come to them in unimaginable condition. Their network of veterinarians and volunteers have dedicated themselves to helping Dobes find health and loving homes, and they need SND's help to continue their important work. In this season of generosity, have a look at dear Blaze and send a contribution to help Blaze regain his health... and make Santa pay! You can donate now by clicking on the PayPal button on the right (use the ‘send money’ and ‘friends and family’ if your account allows and that will keep your donation fee free), or you can always mail your donation.Want to see another Blaze of Beauty? Just visit our newest Poster Dude here https://www.doberman911.org!! Doberman Rescue of Nevada, Blaze and I thank you. Les, SND Case Manager - forever friend of Blaze! |
