Welcome to doberman911.org, the website for Special Needs Dobermans (SND). We are an organization of people with a common goal of helping senior and special needs Dobermans. That need may be financial or it may be only information and/or moral support for the owner of a Doberman with a serious illness or injury. We will also aid in rehoming and fostering senior Dobermans. These Dobermans may be shelter rescues or they may already be much loved companions with a special need. Financial aid may be through donations or through avenues such as online auctions. Every precaution will be taken to assure that the need is real.

Meet The SNDobes Helped With General Funds!!
These Special Needs Dobermans were helped with one-time grants from our most important fund, the General Fund. This fund is used to help Dobermans fortunate enough to find themselves in Rescue Groups. Assistance is only provided for extraordinary expenses. These grants can be augmented by your generous contributions to any of these precious Dobes!! Private owners will be provided the necessary information to help them fundraise for their own Dobes as well as being given information to reduce their costs for medications and ways to seek additional information about Doberman illnesses.
Angel
! |
UPDATE
- January 29, 2013: Miss
Angel had her second successful surgery and is now finally on the road to
a pain-free happy life thanks to all of your generous support and the loving
care of her own Angel, Nancy, of DRC!! THANKS to all who made this possible!!
UPDATE - January 5, 2013: Miss Angel had her first surgery on 1/2/13 and is recovering well! Her face is even beginning to heal and she's eating again!! She will have stitches removed in another 10 days or so and be evaluated for her 2nd surgery which should leave this dear DobeGirl pain-free! Thank you all of you Angel's ANGELS for the love and support you have given!! December, 2012: Let's assume Angel is about 7, coming into those golden senior years when a loving family should be spoiling her silly. Instead she was found lying on the side of the road in south Miami, soaking wet in the rain. She was weak, emaciated and hypothermic. The right side of her face had a ruptured abscess, the left side was so swollen from an unruptured abscess she was unable to open her eye. She had big white patches on her back and was unable to stand on her own. She was taken to MADAS, where she would be kept for 5 days before being PTS. RescueAngel Nancy Armstrong and Doberman Rescue Concern stepped in and got her out. They had to sign a "medical foster" agreement in case Angel's owners showed up and wanted her back - truthfully they should be arrested, shot and left along the road. Nancy says she has taken in some bad cases but Angel is, by far, the worst. The neglect she had suffered was obviously long standing and she seemed to have given up. The vet felt the damage to her face had started with punctures, as though she had been attacked. She also had oozing ear infections. When she was a little stronger, X-rays showed both ear canals were calcified closed - hence the oozing discharge. Heavy duty antibiotics, including those for MRSA, had no effect on the draining wound on the right side of her face. In desperation she was tested for Pythium--and it came back positive. She started eating and recovering - all save her poor face. She became happy, bright, animated, things she should always have felt but may never have... With drains in both sides of her face, the left side healed well, but, in October abscessed again. The cause was Pasturella in her ears. The Pythiosis had to be cured before the ear ablation surgery. It is now gone and she is ready for her surgery - necessary for any real quality of life. The abscesses will only recur every 3 to 4 months and are very painful. As it is, her face drains non-stop. Keeping it clean and coated with Desitin is also a non-stop process, but it still gets the best of this rescue sometimes - and the pus burns her skin. The surgery would remove the ear canals and stop all the infections and abscesses. Nancy and Doberman Rescue Concern feel strongly about giving this sweet girl a chance at a pain-free life. Angel has not given up and is loving every bit of good that comes her way. Please join Doberman Rescue Concern and SND in making this possible for this Dober-Angel. Please consider helping the vital General Fund in any way you can. No amount is ever too small to show you care. You can begin helping Angel by making a tax deductible donation using the PayPal button to the right, or by mailing one in - be sure to mention Angel on your donation! As always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!!! Thank you!! |

MAGIC
UPDATE:
December 22!! -- The magic you see
are our 3 survivors - Miss BlueBelle, Mr. Dodger and Miss Violet!! All three
are in loving foster care and growing like weeds!! Thanks to all who made
this happy tail and to you Foster Folks living the magic with them!! UPDATE: ...and now there are only three. Little Red Rose is gone but there are two Blue Girlies continuing their fight as well as their Black brother smiling at you above... Please help! November , 2012: This story is horrible and contains the needless deaths of Dobe puppies. 10 to 12 week old puppies, red and black and blue babies who never got a chance to really live. But it's also the story of those who have survived so far... Doberman Assistance Network rescued this whole litter from someone who claimed to be a fellow rescuer. It is believed she was, in fact, the breeder. In addition to this litter of 6 there was also a 6 month old and 2 adults. Before they could even be transported, the offer was reduced by the 2 adults and the 6 month old but would you come and get these puppies please? One has died and another is sick... They were rescued and taken to the closest vet. The extremely ill puppy had to be PTS, but 4 of the little darlings are fighting for life as you read this. Any who survive the night will be transported to the care of their own caring vet, Dr. Gretchen Love. DAN has appealed to SND for help with these little angels - and we are asking the Doberman community to reach out to them also. If you can look at these faces and do nothing, close your hearts and browsers and turn away! We hope you don't!! Please consider helping these babies by making a gift donation using the PayPal button to the right or by mailing one in. As always, 100% of your donations will go to help these puppies survive. Remember, no amount is ever too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! Thank You!! |

Rosie! |
November, 2012: Rosie is probably 4 or 5 years old. She was dumped at Liberty County Animal Shelter with a fawn DobeGirl thought to be her daughter. Luckily for them, Georgia Rescue, Rehabilitation & Relocation got their mitts on both mother and daughter. The daughter was placed fairly quickly, lucky girl - but Momma Rosie had several weeks to wait until a foster home could be found for her. Rosie has many lipomas, which don't interfere with her quality of life, thankfully. Unfortunately she also has some mammary tumors which are of special concern and need to come off right away. So... Rosie needs a mastectomy (and a spay) before she can look forward to a possible forever home. Please join SND and GRRR in our efforts to get her this very important surgery. Please consider helping our vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can. You can start helping Rosie by making a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button to the right and declaring it a gift... Or by mailing one in. Please remember no amount is ever too small, 100% of your donations will go to help Rosie and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!!! Thank you!!
Abby! |
October 2012: Abby is 2 years and 4 months old - just a baby! We know her age because her "loving" family dumped her. They signed her over to a Pismo Beach veterinary hospital, and that's where the truth ends. Abby presented with a badly broken leg. Supposedly she had been mauled by the family's other two dobes while in the care of a pet-sitter the day before. X-rays indicated a broken femur with bones completely displaced. It was obviously the result of blunt force trauma and had not happened the day before as evidenced by fluid build-up in her chest. Her injury was old - and they had done nothing. Enter the usual suspects: RescueAngels from Doberman Pinscher Rescue!! Initially the surgeon, Dr. Frier, thought the leg could be saved, in more than three hours of surgery he managed to connect all the bone fragments. Unfortunately her muscles had atrophied to the point where amputation was the only solution. Fortunately she already has another REAL home waiting, with another tripod! Just look at her sweet face, don't you just want to hug her and tell her it will be OK now? You can help make life right for her by joining SND and DPR in our determined efforts to help this sweet baby girl. Please consider helping the vital General Fund in any way you can. You can start helping Abby by making a tax deductible donation using the PayPal button to the right (please declare it a gift and give us a few pennies more). You may also mail one in. 100% of your donation will be used for Abby's bill. Remember, no amount is ever too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! Thank You!!
Greta! |
UPDATE:
Miss Greta has had her 2nd surgery and good reports
are anticipated! Miss Greta and SWODR could really use our help - won't
you please join in to help this DobeLady? October, 2012: Greta, at 8 years old, is already one of our SND seniors - you can visit her here http://www.doberman911.org/seniors/cases/oh_greta.html - and she is safely in rescue at South West Ohio Doberman Rescue. So she is safe, now to get her healthy... and we personally feel humanity owes it to this poor old girl. Greta was a breeding machine, again and again and again. Eventually her breeding days were over and her owners were done with her. She was to be turned over to the SPCA, where, most likely she'd have been PTS. Some neighbors got wind of the dump plan and got her to Toni and Melissa at SWODR. She came in with a low thyroid, whipworms and mammary lumps, which were dealt with quickly. Unfortunately there is another lump which the oncologist says needs to come off as soon as she's ready for another surgery. After this last bump in the road, Greta should be ready to enjoy her senior-hood in proper GrandDamDober style. Although we are far from being the people who did this to her, we are the people who can make her senior years happy and comfy. Please consider helping Greta by helping our vital General Fund stay afloat. You can start by using the PayPal button to the right (declaring it a gift) or by mailing one in. Remember, no amount is ever too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! Thank you!! |

PJ! |
October, 2012: This sweet, Dober-gent is somewhere between 5 and 7. He was found in the Kern County animal shelter and was in obvious distress, possibly pain. He has pronounced weakness in his hindquarters. The RescueAngels from Doberman Pinscher Rescue didn't let that stop them from giving this beautiful guy the chance he deserved! Once he was out of quarantine, he was allowed to run all 6 fenced acres to see if he would build strength - unfortunately, this did not happen. It was feared he had suffered severe ACL damage to both rear legs. The tests and X-rays have shown him to suffer from a neurological impairment, which fortunately is not painful. This is great news and means he will be ready soon to find that forever home he so richly deserves with folks who can look beyond his impairment. Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can. You can begin by making a donation to PJ's medical bill. Please use the PayPal button to the right, declaring it a gift; or by mailing one in. Remember, no amount is ever too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!!! Thanks!!
Carlos! |
October, 2012: First of all - look at that face!! Who could abuse it? That is exactly what Carlo's "owners" did though. Kicking and abusing him repeatedly. Carlos is 10 weeks old. 10 weeks... who wants to go "talk" to these people? Someone eventually took him from the home and turned him into a shelter in Tennessee. From there he went to Atlanta Doberman Pinscher Rescue and our dear RescueAngel Jane Fratesi got her hands on him. He had an obvious limp and went right to her vet. As it turns out one of those kicks, who knows when, snapped the ball right off his femur, breaking his right hip. Poor little Carlos has surgery, pain and recuperation ahead of him before he can move in with a family who will love him for the rest of his life. Carlos is one of the many who will benefit from the General Fund. Please consider helping the vital General Fund in any way you can. You can start helping Carlos by making a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button to the right (please declare it as a gift and help even more by saving PayPal fees if you donate that way - checks are always fee-free!!)) or do so by mailing one in. 100% of our donations go to these Dobes and no amount is ever too small. Remember, no amount is ever too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! Thanks!!
Corra! |
October, 2012: No one is really sure how old Corra is, maybe 5... or so? But, she's one lucky DobeLady to have made it that far. She lived her former life constantly loose near a very busy four lane divided highway, right at the intersection of a busy state road. She lived on a tie-out that did not hold her. Area business owners, neighbors and passers by would constantly return her to the tie out. The owners admitted they often found her tied to something else when they would arrive home. Sure, they spayed her at some point but that was during a pregnancy. They didn't give her heartworm meds. Apparently heartworms are more welcome in their house than puppies! Two jurisdictions worked together and an owner surrender was effected, Corra came to RescueAngel Judy of Doberman Rescue of North Florida. She presented with an easily observable slipping jaw. She went right to the vet, although everyone involved in the surrender swore it was not a recent injury. In fact it proved to be a chronic, possibly congenital, problem. Her teeth are in very bad shape as she can't chew on anything, poor girl. So... she needs slow kill protocol for her heartworms and a good dental cleaning/scraping before she can be the Dober-girl of someone's dreams - someone with a fenced yard that is!! She has an exceptionally great temperament, even letting the cat take her food. Miss Corra's initial grant came from SND's General Fund but it is not quite enough to cover the expenses Miss Corra has incurred. Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way possible. You can start helping Corra by making a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button to the right (please declare it as a gift and help even more by saving PayPal fees if you donate that way - checks are always fee-free!!)) or do so by mailing one in. 100% of our donations go to these Dobes and no amount is ever too small. As always, we at SND appreciateyour continued support of our SNDobies!! Thanks!!
Granny
Muneca! |
November,
2012: Dear Granny
died in her sleep... she was not alone but in the loving care of her Foster
Family, the Greenes of California. Thank you for the dignity you restored
to this lady. RIP Doll... October, 2012: Granny, a.k.a Muneca (Spanish for "doll"), was dumped at a Los Angeles shelter by her “owners” because she clearly didn’t feel well - she was old, and they just really didn’t want to deal with her. We wish we were kidding, but that’s what RescueAngel Robert with Doberman Pinscher Rescue in CA was told. Where are you karma?? But, we digress... RA Robert pulled the desperately ill DobeLady and rushed her off to his vet. She was very thin and her thyroid level was effectively zero and she was in myxedema coma. But Robert pulled her through, largely because he kept her in his home and was there to feed her every two hours day and night. Soon she was spayed and doing well enough to go to a new home, but at nine or ten years of age she couldn’t go just anywhere. On top of that, Robert loved his his Muneca dearly, and wanted to find the perfect place for her to live out her remaining days. She not only lived, she THRIVED… for another ten months! When a couple of tiny mammary masses grew to giant lumps in no time at all, there was no choice but to have the masses removed. $1,250 later and still pending biopsy results, “Granny” is making steady recovery among the people and dobe-siblings who adore her. Please help SND chip away at Granny M’s huge surgery bill by using the PayPal button to donate to the right (please declare it as a gift and help even more by saving PayPal fees if you donate that way - checks are always fee-free!!) or do so by mailing one in. Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Granny M's initial grant was made possible by this fund but she needs our help with this intervention! All donations for Granny M, 100%, will be added to her General Fund grant which helps Dobe RescueAngels stay in the business of helping Dobermans like Granny M!! Remember, no amount is ever too small - 100% of every dollar donated in her name will help this DobeLady And, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! THANKS!! |

Cooper! |
October, 2012: Cooper is about 8 years old, a Dober-gent for sure, and you know how we feel about our Seniors around here! He was found lying alongside a highway. Everyone walked by, believing him dead. We can't even comment on this behavior, at least not in polite company. Finally a Good Samaritan saw him blink and got him to a vet. After networking to find a rescue, Cooper wound up with Pets Without Partners in California. When rescued, he weighed 40 pounds, which equals severely emaciated. He also had a badly dislocated right hip. Vets decided to wait as he was in way too poor condition to survive the surgery he would need to make him right. The good news is he had surgery for the hip Thursday. 10/11/12 and is already beginning to put weight on that leg! Plus he is now up to 67 pounds! Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can. You can start helping Cooper by making a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button to the right (please declare it as a gift and help even more by saving PayPal fees if you donate that way - checks are always fee-free!!). You can also help by mailing your donation in. Remember, no amount is ever too small - and 100% of every dollar donated in his name will help this DobeGent! And, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! Thank You!!
Traveler! |
October, 2012: Recently we have all been following the route Traveler has taken to safety with RescueAngel Dana Johnson of Northern California Doberman Rescue. If you aren't a member of SND Café, here is what you may have missed... Traveler is a happy, goofy, 4 year old dober-boy. Dana pulled him from a Sacramento shelter and who knows what the first four years were like or who, if anyone, loved him. He certainly is lovable, at least to those of us smitten with the breed. Please take a moment to view this short video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iF9m0z1TIak&feature=youtu.be. It has been determined his condition is not Wobblers but most likely a birth defect known as ankylosing spondylosis. More info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ankylosing_spondylitis. It is possible he has been hit by a car in the past but is most likely this congenital spinal disease. With a large yard to run safely in, he does seem to be gaining muscle tone and not falling nearly as often. This is all great news for Traveler. He has already been neutered and is heartworm negative so it shouldn't be long before he's ready for a forever home who will not mind his somewhat disjointed movement! He certainly doesn't let it get him down! Although he has gained strength, he still does fall sometimes; but when he does he pops back up and goes his merry way. He is very Velcro and will be an important part of the right person's life. Please join Dana Johnson, Northern California Doberman Rescue and SND in getting him ready for the happiness to come. Consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can. The General Fund is so important to Dobes like Traveler who might never have a chance at life without a little help. You can start helping Traveler and others by making a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button to the right (choosing 'gift' helps even more). You can also help by mailing a donation. Remember no amount is too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your help with our SNDobies!! Thank You!!!
Gunther! |
October, 2012: Remember Gassy Gunther the Garfield of Dobes? Let me refresh your memory... http://www.doberman911.org/cases/gunther2.html. He's also one of our seniors, and you can find him here http://www.doberman911.org/seniors/cases/oh_gunther.html. Poor Gunther healed but it hasn't been happily-ever-after for him. He was moved from one foster home to another, which must have been hard on the old boy. His new FosterDad, Bob, adores him, just loves him to pieces... Gunther could not be happier - that is until a late September Friday night. Dear old Gunther couldn't get comfy. He couldn't lay on his side and was coughing. He also began breathing heavily when he wasn't coughing. The next morning brought a visit to the vet and an unwelcome diagnosis: severe degenerative valve disease. So now this poor boy is in the golden years of his life, probably the happiest he has ever been - and needs our help again so he can enjoy each and every day left to him. Please consider helping Gunther get the heart meds he so sorely needs. In doing so you'll also help the vital General Fund stay afloat. You can start helping by making a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button to the right, or by mailing one in. Remember, no amount is ever too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! THANKS!!! Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Mr. Gunther's initial grant was made possible by this fund but FDR needs our help keeping this DobeGent ticking! Won't you help these RescueAngels? All donations for Mr. Gunther, 100%, will be added to his General Fund grant which helps the FDR RescueAngels stay in the business of helping Dobermans like Mr. Gunther!! Remember, no amount is ever too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! THANKS!!
Bobby! |
October,
2012: Gentleman Bobby was surrendered
to Doberman Rescue of Nevada by a family “moving away” and he
could not go - some "family!!" We believe the real reason he was
dumped is he suffers from a ruptured salivary gland duct resulting in a
sometimes painful, high-risk of major infection abscess on his neck that
puts him at risk for sepsis and presents him as unadoptable. That huge rust-colored
thing under his chin is NOT a bib - it is an abcess/growth - can you imagine
lugging that around? Attempts to treat this with antibiotics over the past
2 months have failed. The Vet says this was most likely caused by excessive
force from a choke chain. Surgery is presented as the only viable option
and DRNV wants to proceed before another infection can begin. Surgical repair
of this growth is complex requiring a board certified surgeon which DRNV
chose and the clinic also has another Vet who will neuter him while he's
under for the "chin lift." That's an economic way to deal with
both of these issues which spares wear and tear on Bobby and the expense
that would be involved in two surgeries. Please consider helping the vital
General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Mr.Bobby's initial grant was
made possible by this fund but DRNV needs our help with this intervention!
Won't you help dear Bobby get well? You can start helping Mr. Bobby and
DRNV now by making a tax deductible donation using the Pay Pal button to
the right or by mailing one in. All donations for Mr. Bobby, 100%, will
be added to his General Fund grant which helps the DRNV Rescue Angels stay
in the business of helping Dobermans like Mr. Bobby!! Remember, no amount
is ever too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support
of our SNDobies!! THANKS!! Instant UPDATE!! Mr. Bobby came through his surgery and has begun his recovery!! SUCCESS!! Please help us foster the efforts of this great bunch of RescueAngels!! Thanks!! |

Dillinger! |
August, 2012: Meet Mr. Dillinger - and, like his namesake, he is a robber all right - a robber of hearts!! At 2 years old, he's made his mark! That's what has made him so precious to his Mom Michelle. Michelle and her family have suffered economic setbacks recently and when their house was foreclosed, instead of dumping Dillinger, she has been struggling to pay for boarding for him and his Pittie Sis. When it rains it does pour and while Dillinger was in boarding he developed serious signs of distress and that's when Michelle - really desperate for some help for her DobeKid - came to SND. Dillinger was awarded a grant to have him vetted and he was showing signs of kidney failure - not unlike poisoning it seems. He is now in urgent care but Michelle does not have the funds to get him released - she desperately needs our, YOUR, help and fast. Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Mr. Dillinger's initial grant was made possible by this fund but he needs additional help to get completely well! Won't you help dear Dillinger get well? You can start helping Mr. Dillinger now by making a tax deductible donation by using the Pay Pal button to the right or by mailing one in. All donations for this Heart Robber, 100%, will be added to his General Fund grant!! Remember, no amount is ever too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! THANKS!!
Misty! |
August, 2012: Meet Miss Misty! Sweet little Misty is only about 3 years old but has already had at least one litter, likely more. She came to rescue as a stray from South Carolina, very thin and heartworm positive. She asks only for love and a little attention, something she will surely find once her health is restored. Forever Dobes Rescue is determined she get the chance she deserves, which is the best life has to offer. Please consider helping the vital General Fund so it can bring health and happiness to Misty and so many others like her. Please help in any way you can. You could start helping Misty by making a tax deductible donation using the PayPal button to the right or by mailing one in. Remember, no amount is ever too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!!! THANKS!!
Cheyenne! |
August, 2012: Meet Miss Cheyenne - a DobeLady estimated to be 4 years used. Picked up as a stray and not claimed (surprise? NOT), she was destined for a blue cocktail. She looked like hell, having apparently just weaned another litter. Even more pathetic than that, poor Cheyenne could barely walk and stay balanced because of an enormous, pendulous mammary gland tumor the size of large grapefruit hanging between her legs - swinging precariously with each step. So, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters? No... the constant RescueAngels from Northern California Doberman Rescue to the rescue, again. Yes! A well-deserved change of luck for Miss Cheyenne - she is free of her tumor and of the parasites who "owned" her in one fell swoop! Having a rescue-friendly vet does help, but the costs are still more than an SND grant alone can provide. Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Miss Cheyenne's initial grant is made possible by this fund but she needs some more to get completely well! Pathology will tell but the signs are good! You can start helping Miss Cheyenne now by making a tax deductible donation by using the Pay Pal button to the right or by mailing one in. All donations for this lovely lady, 100%, will be added to her General Fund grant!! Remember, no amount is ever too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! THANKS!!
Paddy! |
August, 2012: Paddy came into rescue at 4 months old. A mere 16 weeks old and dumped on rescue like a bothersome burden. The reason? Personal issues? Personal issues indeed! Just look at that face! Perhaps those issues had something to do with Paddy's health... and with his breeder. Obviously your typical backyard operation where the money matters more than the beautiful little lives being created as this "breeder" did not step in to help. So, step in the RescueAngels from Doberman Rescue League in Florida who took this baby boy in and got him some help. He had a heart murmur which was later diagnosed as patent ductus arteriosus. Paddy's chances without surgery -- 60% chance of death in his first year. After the surgery he'll be looking at a long, full, beautiful life, hopefully among people who really love Dobes. His surgical bill alone is estimated to be nearly $3000. That's a lot of money for a small band of RescueAngels with 7 permanent fosters (Seniors, of course) and a whole pack of Dobes who are, or will be, adoptable. You can get started helping Paddy by making a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button to the right or by mailing one in. Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can - for Paddy, our grant will only cover a limited portion of his bill. Won't you help supplement this grant? Remember, no amount is ever too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! Thanks!!
Bo! |
UPDATE:
August 1 , 2012: Dear Beau (FKA Bo) lost a toe but
not his life or limb thanks to RescueAngels from DAN and the special folks
at the Charlotte Humane Society who stepped right in to give him the care
he needed - thanks Dr. Vogt and staff!!
July 30 , 2012: Bo was a stray who wandered into the yard of a good samaritan. They put up flyers and tryed to find his people, after all, someone had cared for him for 6 or 7 years. No one came, no one wanted this old boy. Perhaps his people saw the flyers and just didn't want their old dog back... even though seniors are fantastic, we all know that! The Good Samaritans finally realized no one was coming to take Bo home and called Doberman Assistance Network. Two hours before DAN got there to pick him up he was struck by a car and horribly injured. His rear leg, from the hock joint down has a strip of skin missing about 1/2 inch wide, all the way down to his toes. Two of his toes are dangling by skin and will, at least, have to be removed. If not the whole leg, poor old boy. It took $500 to get him stabilized overnight - now he needs treatment! Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can. You can start helping Bo by making a tax deductible donation by using the PayPal button to the right, or by mailing one in. Remember, no amount is ever too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! Thanks!! |

Bill! |
UPDATE:
August 6 , 2012: Bill THANKS YOU!! Because of your
generosity, Bill has had his surgery and is recovering beautifully!! A BIG
thanks from Dana and the RescueAngels of Northern California Doberman Rescue
and SND too!! July 16 , 2012: EMERGENCY REQUEST!! Meet Bill The Dawg (akin to Bill The Cat from Bloom County comics, by his looks) - Poor Mr. Bill was an "owner" surrender to Oakland Animal Services. They are some of the good guys and they contacted a Northern California Doberman Rescue volunteer right away. What she saw a great dog with a terrible case of demodex and a chewed off ear... and an amazing personality. He had a beautiful heart and deserved a ticket out. Bill the Dawg rode the rescue railroad to a kennel owned by a northern CA DPCA member who has been helping with transfers and short term boarding. Bill the Dawg was having a great time - lucky break being discarded, eh? He had two friends on either side of his kennel. His great personality just shined. Then suddenly last Friday his kennel was covered in vomit and diarrhea. Efforts to calm his upset tummy were unsuccessful. Sunday a sick and listless Bill the Dawg was taken to Encina Veterinary Hospital on an emergency visit - he was sick as the proverbial DAWG!! Initially parvo was suspected due to his symptoms but the test came back negative. As they cautiously moved forward with blood work it became apparent that Mr. Bill was a very sick boy. He was ultimately - and just in time - diagnosed with an intestinal intussusception, the intestine just started folding into itself - an emergency situation indeed. Thanks to his new Herd of Angels, Mr. Bill got his life saving surgery - they will be reaching out for your help!! Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Bill The Dawg's grant is made possible by this fund but he needs much more! You can start helping Mr. Bill by making a tax deductible donation by using the Pay Pal button to the right or by mailing one in. All donations for Mr. Bill, 100%, will be added to his General Fund grant!! Remember, no amount is ever too small, and, as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! Levi! |
July, 2012: Little Levi was only 4 months old when Jane Fratesi and Atlanta Doberman Pinscher Rescue sprung him from a Georgia animal shelter. At first they thought the hair missing on his neck was from a tight collar but realized he had a hematoma swelling on his neck. It quickly became the size of a golf ball. Poor little guy must have gotten nailed by someone bigger and meaner. Off he went to Gwinnett Animal Hospital for a week. In spite of two drain tubes in his neck and blood and fluid everywhere, he still let the veterinary staff know if he had to go potty. He is an amazingly sweet little boy who is exceptionally well mannered. His foster family reports he is getting along great with their dogs and cat. Someone is going to get a fantastic dog when he's adopted! Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can. You can start helping Levi by making a tax deductible donation by using the Pay Pal button to the right or by mailing one in. Gracie! |
July, 2012: Miss Gracie is a sweet 1 1/2-2 years young DobeGirl who was abandoned in a recreation area in New Mexico. When she was taken into custody by animal control, she was emaciated and was not using one rear leg. Based on the degree of muscle loss, the shelter vet suggested that the injury was severe and old and that the leg likely should be amputated. The shelter then contacted Dobe Rescue of Colorado and Miss Gracie was transported to Denver. Chuck assessed the damaged leg and immediately got Miss Gracie to his vets at Deer Creek Animal Hospital who agreed that the leg could be saved with a FHO (femoral head ostectomy). The operation was a success and now Miss Gracie is in the healing phase awaiting physical therapy. While SND was able to contribute to the operation (FHO is not cheap!) DRCO is still faced with providing months of expensive rehab to get that leg back in working condition. DRCO and SND are committed to assuring that Miss Gracie is given the opportunity to find her forever home. Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! You can start by making a tax deductible donation by using the Pay Pal button to the right or by mailing one in. Gladys! |
June, 2012: Abandoned? Discarded? Just another refugee, a DDP (Displaced Doberman Pinscher). Estimated at 4 years of age by the shelter in San Antonio, Texas, Miss Gladys proves the state of her care by being heartworm positive - if you don't care enough to use preventative - why would you care if your problem disappeared? San Antonio Doberman Advocacy & Rescue cares - so does SND and the generous help from DPCA Rescue shows they care too! Long Live Healthy HW free Dobes!! Miss Gladys will receive treatment and will then be in the market for a deserving Forever Family! Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Harvick! |
June, 2012: Lucky Harvick on race day! He crashed into the pound but his pit crew took him to D.A.N. instead of the ER (Euth Room)!! D.A.N. found him sanctuary with Forever Dobes Rescue and made sure he got there! This approximately 4 year old is heartworm positive (so what's new?). Mr. Harvick will finally get on the road to health by getting him treatment for the heartworm infestation and then he'll be on track - racing to his Forever Family!! FDR will see to that with SND's, DPCA Rescue's and your help too!! Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Dixie! |
June, 2012: A sad tale is that of Miss Dixie - adopted to a loving home whose person is stricken with cancer and can no longer care for or control the destiny of his dear Miss Dixie... Returned to the open arms of Distinguished Doberman Rescue, Miss Dixie succumbs eventually to a series of respiratory distress illnesses - viral pneumonia she could no longer combat - missing her DobeDad of four years? Cancer? Who will ever know? All we need to know is that everything that could be done for Miss Dixie was done... she died on her own terms while being cared for at the vet's - she will be sorely missed. SND helped with DDRI's expenses and we are so glad to have helped - with your help! Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Ace! |
June, 2012: Well there are FOUR Aces in any deck!! Or the lowest? A stray in a Boone, NC shelter... sound pretty low card, doesn't it? This Ace's card was to rise in the deck, slowly but very surely! A ward of D.A.N., 11 month old Ace exhibited signs of serious ear issues - a tiny opening into the ear canal which harbored an infection - can you say miserable?? D.A.N. got this Ace treatment and diagnosis and found him "a place to be" in the arms of Distinguished Doberman Rescue who will see that Ace's condition is diagnosed and treated once he is in the arms of the DDRI Rescue Angels. SND has assisted by paying for this consult and will continue supporting Mr. Ace once he is with DDRI! Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Brody! |
June, 2012: Brought to a clinic to be destroyed after falling out of his "owner's" truck (duh??) - said "owner" having no funds to get his 5 year old companion treated. Sell your truck to pay for your stupidity? Nyahhh... guess not. Too bad poor Brody had to fall out of a dummy's truck to have his luck change!! Faced with progressive hind end weakness, diagnostics became imperative and that's when Brody's Good Sam stepped in even though she was already burdened by her own expenses with others she has rescued. SND was proud to help Good Sam "AK" with your support and it appears Brody did not sustain permanent spinal damage and will make a good recovery. THANKS for saving this DobeGuy AK!! Ace! |
June, 2012: Highest card in the deck? That's the way Ace sees himself - and so does his Mom!! Adopted at 6 months old from Florida Doberman Rescue, dear Ace and his mom Christine found themselves in a perilous place - a limping Ace and limited finances in the face of ruptured cruciate ligament surgery! Hello SND to help restore this high card to his place! It's only with your support of the General Fund could we help this DobeFamily stay together... healthy and happy!! Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! You can start by making a tax deductible donation by using the Pay Pal button to the right or by mailing one in. Charli! |
June, 2012: At just 6 weeks old, Little Miss Charli needs some help!! She's a beautiful DobeGirlie who was exhibiting ataxia with periodic stiffness since four weeks of age. CBC/Chem panels performed were within normal limits. This littlest angel was taken under the loving wings of her vet tech who couldn't stand to see Miss Charlie go undiagnosed!! Good on you Good Sam Paula!! Miss Charli was taken for a consult with the local neurologist on May 21, 2012. A transoccipital ultrasound and CSF tap was performed to rule out infection and inflammatory diseases. The neurologist suspects cerebellar hypoplasia, cerebellar abiotrophy or a cyst in the brain. An MRI is needed to further diagnose the disease so that she can proceed to treatment if that is possible. Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Miss Charli's grant is made possible by this fund but she needs much more! You can start helping Miss Charli by making a tax deductible donation by using the Pay Pal button to the right or by mailing one in. Angel! |
May,
2012: This dear Angel, Miss Angel, a
1 year old DobeGirlie appears to be in a bad picture with those solid blue
eyes - unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Anterior Lens Luxation and
promptly dumped by her so-called "person" - nice, eh? Step in
D.A.N. to the rescue who have recruited Distinguished Doberman Rescue to
find help for this DobeGirlie. Won't you help SND help DDRI take care of
this Angel before she loses her sight completely? It may already be too

Spirit! |
May, 2012: At an estimated 4 years of age, Miss Spirit was hit by a car and taken to a shelter in NC. After this trauma, lucky for her, D.A.N. learned of her plight and arranged for her transfer to the Humane Society of Charlotte. Dr. Vogt of the HS determined that a Femoral Head Ostectomy would be the best bet to get Spirit back on her feet (literally!). Surgery complicated by her vWd status did not deter getting Miss Spirit help even though the chances of arthritis later in life still looms... she has her life and her limb thanks to these dedicated RescueAngels to count on for SND's support here. Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! You can start by making a tax deductible donation by using the Pay Pal button to the right or by mailing one in. Vita! |
May, 2012: Banned from her "home" of 7 years old for having fleas? Yes... only to also get infested with heartworm - if you think fleas are a bother, it's a cinch you would think giving preventative (for both problems) would be to much bother for a DOG that was devoted to you for 7 years - as Johnny Carson would say: May the fleas of 10,000 camels infest your ____ (fill in the blank). D.A.N. accepted this Senior DobeLady and found refuge for her with RescueAngels at Distinguished Doberman Resuce in PA. DDRI and SND will work together to get this DobeLady into the better life she has always deserved with your support. Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Tate! |
May, 2012: Mr. Tate is a 5 year old DobeGuy who began having problems, starting with diarrhea and an inability to put on weight. He was put through all kinds of diagnostics which produced very few answers leaving his DobeMom in a real financial bind to continue the quest for a diagnosis and hopefully, a cure. SND has pledged to help his Mom, Katie, by making a grant toward his latest testing - endoscopy. We wish Mr. Tate and his Mom the best chance possible to solve his problems - just look at this handsome DobeDude with his favorite dogbone pillow... who could resist that face?? Pepper! |
May, 2012: A year old and so much misery! That's Miss Pepper's story until she met Angie who does "private" rescue, read extremely GOOD SAM. Pepper had been dragged behind a cruel IDIOT's truck for several miles! Besides many degloved areas, her shoulder had been subluxated toward her chest and she never received care for that injury! It was 8 long months before she came into the care of Angie - way too long to even think of saving her limb. In the meantime, Pepper delivered a litter of mixed puppies and so a solution for her already ruined arm was postponed until she and the pups were strong enough to be separated. Angie saw to it that the pups had homes and then she had SND's help with the cost of amputating the useless arm. Miss Pepper will finally get what she deserves: the love and respect of a Forever Family - Angie will see to that! Thank you dear Angie! Ginger! |
March, 2012: Senior DobeLady lived a very happy life but at 10 years of age, she began to show some troublesome signs such as limping with no evidence of trauma. At first she was treated as though she had just strained a muscle or tendon but following a course of pred, she was not improving. SND assisted her owner with additional diagnostics which showed that she had advanced osteosarcoma which had already metastasized to her lungs. She was released from her pain much to the sorrow of her Dad of 10 years. RIP dear Lady... Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Tiki! |
March, 2012: We'd say poor Miss Tiki but now that she's in the hands of her own RescueAngel from Distinguished Doberman Rescue in PA, she's poor no more!! In a shelter down south with her puppies, heavily infested with heartworm. The puppies contracted parvo and did not survive. Tiki was transported to DDRI and we are helping with the cost of her heartworm treatment - thanks to a very sympathetic vet, Dr. Petro of Animal Wellness Center in New Brighton, this was NOT exorbitant but still more than normal vetting for the wards of DDRI. Thanks DDRI and Dr. Petro! Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Vinnie! |
March, 2012: Dear Vinnie - so named after Vincent Van Gogh considering the hatchet job done on his ears by an ignorant and cruel person. Vinnie was picked up as a stray and was taken in by Deserving Pets Rescue who quickly discovered that he had a badly infected foreleg - so bad that the bone had been infiltrated and amputation was the only way to save his life. Vinnie survived the surgery but unfortunately, he died during that evening - likely because of his weakened condition and a systemic infection. He did not die without knowing the loving touch of the RescueAngels from DPR - thank you for that. Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Seven! |
March, 2012: Dear Mr. Seven hasn't always been a lucky guy! He was initially rescued after being hit by a car resulting in amputation of a foreleg. He was adopted in spite of his handicap and lived with someone who cared for him until that someone was no longer able to care for themselves. Fortunately, once a rescue always a ward of rescue! He was gladly taken in Forever Dobes RescueAngels but he needed medical attention to remove a growth which was interfering with his only remaining foreleg. SND gladly assisted with the surgery and now Mr. Seven considers himself lucky once again!! Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Gavin! |
March, 2012: At around one year of age, misery had become the lot in life for this handsome DobeDude. A volunteer for Pinsch of Heaven Dobe Rescue in Atlanta found Gavin in her apartment complex, neglected and bleeding. She contacted POHDR who took him in and had him vetted locally. He was covered in multiple growths which turned out to be Canine Papilloma Virus AND he was HEAVY heartworm infested. No surprises there given his situation before being taken under the wing of his RescueAngels! Gavin is on his way to health and to begin the life we wish for all Dobes!! Thanks POHDR!! - fortunately for her - in the reach of South West Ohio Doberman Rescue

her surgery and is feeling TONS better now - thanks RescueAngels!! A Forever

Beamer! |
March, 2012: A handsome but neglected and then dumped 4 year old DobeGuy with heartworm. The best thing that happened to Beamer is that he is safe now in the arms of his RescueAngels from San Antonio Doberman Rescue!! Those SADAR folks try never to say NO to a Dobe in need - and SND feels the same way about Dobes... and SADAR!! Good luck Beamer - on your treatments and in finding your Forever Family. and Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Radar! |
March, 2012: Radar was rescued at about 4 years old. He was found tied to the door of a facility and then saved by Citizens for Humane Action - just like Miss Dustie below. They turned him over to the RescueAngels with Forever Dobes Rescue who have begun his rehab process. Radar was heartworm positive, which although curable, is not cheap. Radar has begun treatment for his very heavy heartworm load - this treatment is not without its own dangers but his FosterMom will see to it that he follows the confinement as prescribed! Following that ordeal, he will be relieved of his jewels before being ready to join some lucky someone's family. Please consider helping the vital General Fund stay afloat in any way you can! Dustie! |
April, 2012: Miss Dustie is about 4 and was already spayed when she was left tied to the door of a facility. Maybe her family saw it as her only chance, who knows. She was claimed by Citizens for Humane Action who turned her over to Forever Dobes Rescue. As so many are, she is heartworm positive and must endure the treatments. The cost of these treatments is no longer cheap, but she will be cured and ready to love some family for the rest of her life - the kind of life every DobeLady deserves!! Please consider helping the all-important General Fund stay solvent in any way you can! Toby! |
March, 2012: Toby is Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue's almost (might as well be) million dollar baby! After being fleeced with exhorbitant fees for heartworm treatment which set back SWODR's RescueAngels and SND with a VERY large sum, dear Toby needs another push to get him back in the pink... or actually black and rust!! He has an abcessed tooth and a lump that should be addressed and will be with our help and SWODR's determination! Please consider helping the General Fund stay solvent in any way you can! Sammie! |
March, 2012: Sammie aka Sparkle is about 2 years old. She came from a kill shelter in Ashland, Kentucky. Like most of the dobes coming out of the south these days, she was heartworm positive. She had a heavy load, the arteries in her lungs were inflamed and enlarged by the disease. She required 3 treatments to cure her. She was also almost bald with mange. Thankfully she was rescued by Forever Dobes Rescue who lost no time getting her healthy and back on her feet, no more bugs - inside or out! This pretty girl will now have a chance to live the great dober-life our dogs deserve to have. Hopefully she will have a long life with a loving family and that shelter in Ky - not to mention whatever came before it, will be history! Luca! |
March, 2012: Okay, your Dobe gets hit by a car - an accident or a 'stupid?' No matter, he's just a dog... a very young dog - let's dump him at the shelter. Fortunately for 6 months old Luca the shelter where he was dumped was LaPlata Humane Society, a first class place to be! They wanted to help Luca so they contacted SND to help with the orthopedic work he need to save his limb - they had already saved his life!! A spiral fracture of his femur isn't a cheap or easy repair but Chris and LPHS are managing to get donations to cover their discounted costs which are still more than any shelter can normally afford. He is safe now and has GREAT prospects for adoption. Please consider helping the General Fund stay solvent in any way you can! Cleo! |
March, 2012: This is an "out of the frying pan and into the fire" story of a rescued heartworm positive DobeGirl who was fostered and adopted for aftercare. The frying pan was being HW+ in a shelter - the fire became a nightmare adoption that failed to provide care after her treatment. Cleo was re-rescued by Forever Dobes Rescue and she is being treated for the aftermath of the lack of care she received. She is safe now and recovering albeit slowly. Sheldon! |
January, 2012: Eight years young Mr. Sheldon is a Senior DobeGent who was rescued in 2009 by a kind lady who made room for him in her heart and budget. Recently he needed specialized attention for a bladder issue which his Mom could not afford. A General Funds grant was made to Sheldon so he could get the diagnostics he needed to address his problem. We're hoping for a good resolution here - as is his family! January, 2012: Seven years young Mr. Kody is a DobeGuy who is the offspring of a private breeding. Seriously hampered by this economy, his family recently moved from AZ to AL to improve their financial situation. Kody began coughing up blood and required immediate diagnostics to determine the cause of his problems. Early results indicate a pretty severe fungal infection which may be Valley Fever given his former location in AZ. Please consider helping the General Fund stay solvent in any way you can! Roscoe! |
January, 2012: Mr. Roscoe was a Senior DobeGent when he was first rescued by Citizens for Humane Action and subsequently placed with North Coast Doberman Rescue. His "people" were through with him and they dumped at the pound, tied to the door! He was placed in permanent foster care and began his rehab into the "How Dobes Should Be Treated" universe. Roscoe and his Foster Mom were transferred to Forever Dobe Rescue to continue his care when FDR was formed. Roscoe has recently developed Wobbler's-like symptoms and his new Rescue Angels have asked SND for help - of course, he will be helped as much as possible. January, 2012: Mr. Samson is a 6 year old DobeGuy who had a very unfortunate encounter of the worse kind with a car. He had two compound fractures in his foreleg and repairs would be extensive and expensive. His family could not afford to get this taken care of but they went on a fundraising blitz and with the help of SND and other organizations, he has had his surgery and hopefully will go on to recover fully. Buddy! |
January, 2012: This handsome 8 year old DobeGent was rescued in Austin, TX, by RescueAngels with San Antonio Doberman Advocacy and Rescue. He was a cruelty case who, along with his brother who did not survive, spent his life outside in a pen or tied to a tree - no shelter, regular feeding or medical care. When rescued he needed immediate attention for his emaciated condition, a mass on his hind end, treatment for heartworm as well as a long-delayed neuter when he is well. The Animal Trustees of Austin are providing very low cost services to SADAR for Buddy but eventually his heartworm treatment must be addressed when he is strong enough. Angel! |
December, 2011: This is 6 year old Miss Angel. She was adopted from North Coast Doberman Rescue in 2007 and has been loved and pampered by her family since then. In mid-December 2011, she began refusing even her most favorite foods and eventually wouldn't eat at all. She had bloodwork and x-ray which were unrevealing as to cause. Bloodwork showed highly elevated indicators of kidney function and required three days of diuresis. The costs pretty much wiped out this family's resources and they could not afford further diagnosis. A one-time grant was provided so Angel could have the abdominal ultrasound that might pinpoint her problem. Unfortunately, she has irreversible kidney damage from the high calcium which was not controlled by a parathyroid gland gone wild. Please consider helping the General Fund stay solvent in any way you can! You can start by making a tax deductible donation by using the Pay Pal Button on the right or by mailing one in. Caesar! |
December, 2011: This is 3-4 year old Caesar. Having been found wandering about, Caesar was kept by a private citizen for two days and then turned in as a stray to Paulding AC on 12/19/11. He was rescued from AC by a good samaritan who believed that this DobeGuy did not deserve what had been delivered. Caesar had some obvious problems - a hind leg that was swollen, noticeable muscle wasting, limping and now weight bearing. He was immediately taken to a vet where preliminary exam did not reveal the suspicion of osteosarcoma. After a week of antibiotics and pain meds, further tests revealed a very aggressive, rapidly spreading and basically out of hand cancer. Poor Caesar didn't have much of a chance but he knew the loving touch of his GoodAngel. SND made his diagnosis certain so he did not have to languish in limbo. He was loved and kissed to his rest when the obvious - and Caesar's pain - could not be ignored. We thank his GoodAngel for that. This DobeGirlie was dropped off at Dr. Clementz's practice to be killed because she was heartworm Positive... because the IDIOTS who had 'owned' her hadn't given her preventative perhaps? Well, knowing how ridiculous this is and that Jasmine was in this predicament through no fault of her own - the kind folks at VCA Westerville East in Ohio made it their business to find RescueAngels and cam up with Forever Dobe Rescue! You guessed it! SND's General Fund to Jasmine's and FDR's rescue!! Please consider helping the General Fund stay solvent in any way you can! You can start by making a tax deductible donation by using the Pay Pal Button on the right or by mailing one in. No amount is ever too small, and as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! THANKS!!
Noah! |
December, 2011: This is 4 year old Mr. Noah. Another discarded Doberman. Dumped after four years of living outside and developing a very nasty sore on his side which looked very suspiciously like a burn. These events may have been the BEST thing to happen to this guy in his whole life! Finally rid of the people who cared so little about him, he was rescued by the angels at South West Ohio Doberman Rescue, he is facing a very bright future in the arms of our RescueAngels!! SWODR asked for SND assistance to help dear Noah - fortunately, we were able to answer the call!! Please consider helping the General Fund stay solvent in any way you can! You can start by making a tax deductible donation by using the Pay Pal Button on the right or by mailing one in. No amount is ever too small, and as always, we at SND appreciate your continued support of our SNDobies!! THANKS!!
