Please read
the story of my journey back from the abyss - my eyes tell my story...
December 2,
2011, the beginning of the end of my lifelong nightmare...
This is the
face of death by starvation... A 31-pound Doberman...
I am a DobeLady,
my spirit awakened... I know I am safe and will fight like hell to keep this
heaven!!
January 10,
2012 - I am in heaven!! I have come back to life...
I still have a way to go and with your generous help, I WILL MAKE IT!!
THANK YOU TO MY RESCUE ANGELS!!
The images are appalling... A magnificent female Doberman, barely alive with her skeleton protruding under her skin; eyes glassy and barely responsive, unable to stand. Her name was Angel; she's 7 years old and was as close to dead as it gets. This dear poor girl was confiscated in a cruelty case and taken to a shelter. The amazing angels from the Doberman Assistance Network (DAN) were contacted and immediately took this nearly dead creature to the clinic of Dr. Love who started her on IV fluids... Now what? DAN needed a Doberman Rescue group to take this Angel under their loving wings and see her back to health and a forever home. There is no shortage of Angels in this tale, so DAN stepped up and transported Angel -- now Noelle -- to Doberman Rescue of North Carolina, who then placed her in the foster care of an extraordinary couple; Leslie and Mike. Less than 24 hours later, Noelle was rushed to North Carolina State University Veterinary School. She required a week in their Intensive Care Unit. This transpired the first week of December, and people are still exclaiming how this girl's indomitable spirit was the only thing that enabled her to survive. This is the face of deliberate starvation, abject neglect and utter indifference.
But
indeed, good does transcend over evil and only thru the intervention of the
collective hearts of DAN, DRNC and Leslie and Mike, Noelle is now making the
first steps in the long journey to recovery. She now is able to drink and eat
unassisted, consuming 4 cans of O/M, a liquid nutritional supplement, diced
chicken and steamed rice daily. Her bloodwork, miraculously, looks good and
does not indicate imminent organ failure, and she has gained about 7-8 pounds.
She weighed 31 pounds when she was pulled from the shelter... an adult, senior
Doberman.
It is utterly unfathomable how a dog can even approach the condition Noelle
was found in. Many food pantries carry pet food, free for the asking. Area shelters,
Humane Societies and town offices often assist folks down on their luck with
resources to help keep their animals fed. Dear Noelle's starvation was forced,
deliberate and very close to fatal, and the consequences of this horrific neglect
will remain with Noelle for the rest of her life... but there is a very positive
side to her story - she is now in the best of any conceivable home with Leslie
and Mike. She has a beautiful Dobersister, Gracie, and a cat that has caught
her interest. Noelle now does the Dobertrot, her bum wiggles and the amazing
redhead personality is beginning to show itself. You will be in awe of what
you see in the videos on her Face Book page. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Noelles-Christmas-Angels/265886380127539

SND has been asked by Rescue Angel Ellen of Doberman Rescue of North Carolina
to assist in financing an endoscopy for Noelle and further treatments she may
need. On top of all the misery this dear Lady has suffered, she is also
heartworm positive. She is not strong enough to undergo any treatment
for that at this point but it is another expensive addition to dear Noelle's
get well plan. As well as her road to recovery is going, Noelle is still
plagued by diarrhea and it is suspected that she may be suffering from Iinflammatory
Bowel Disease. Inflammatory Bowel Disease is an umbrella that covers several
different GI tract diseases. Our goal with the endoscopy is to figure out which
of the diseases she has so we can choose the appropriate diet and meds/supplements
to manage her gut. While she has made incredible progress, she is far from being
out of the woods, and she needs all our thoughts, hearts and contributions to
recover.
If this story touches your heart, if this story made you cry, if this story
made you angry at this outrage, PLEASE join us in saving this precious one.
As always with SND, every penny counts, and in dear Noelle's case, we
can play an active part in conquering the evil that fell upon this dear innocent
girl. Please send what you can, and don't forget to visit her Face Book page
daily. Leslie will also post on the Cafe with Noelle's progress. Be a part of
this miracle.
