George in Cincinnati, Ohio

George is at Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue (SWODR), but he needs hospice care immediately. This poor boy has Dilated Cardiomyopathy, and also has cancer. He doesn't seem to be in pain and he plays well. He is on lasix and pain meds as needed.

George was a stray that wondered onto a farm on the east side of Cincinnati. He was probably dumped, and he is sad and so are we. SWODR is looking for a big-hearted person to provide hospice care for him. George would love to have a quiet home with someone who will love him for the time he has remaining. He is sweet and affectionate; he does not require (and indeed cannot have) much exercise. He needs to know a home with love before his illnesses take him and he leaves us!!

SWODR would be willing to transport this guy for hospice care. Ohio and Kentucky areas are the most preferable. George is over 10 years old, red, neutered, and has natural ears and a docked tail.

George snug as a bug in his wonderful new home!!!

09.06.2005 George's Happy Tail!!

George's spirit seems to be coming alive. He's really spunky most of the time and doesn't seem to be tired much. He was playing out in the yard with Sampson last night and I was actually a little worried that he was over-doing-it but Dr. Randy said if he feels good enough to do it, then let him be a dog. He said if George's heart were going to give out during playing, it would be to the point that it would give out within hours even if he was lying down, and luckily, it doesn't appear George is at that stage.

George has also become quite vocal. We leave the backdoor open when we're home so the dogs can go in and out freely as they choose. George has gotten in the habit of going outside and if he wants company, he stands at the bottom of the stairs and barks. He won't stop if you are in the kitchen and talk to him, even if he can see you. The only way he stops is if either me, Paul or Sampson goes outside and plays with him.

I also got my first kiss from George today, but that was before the vet visit. He's being a little stand-offish right now, but that's ok. He'll just have to understand that I'm just doing what's good for him and if he feels better and we can get rid of that cough, he'll have to love me, right?
