Ollie is a nine-year-old boy and has been in the IDR+ foster program for well over two years now but enjoying his time with his foster folks and siblings (dogs of all ages and sizes). Unfortunately, Ollie's Wobblers has progressed and he has great difficulty with stairs but is also prone to fall or slip if bumped or even just walking on a slippery surface. His spirit keeps him happy even with his limitations and he loves to play a limited game of fetch...or rather fetch and then catch me. He is also a snuggler and craves attention. If you are unable to pet him, then he's happy simply standing next to you...he just wants to be with his humans. Ollie has taken to smiling and bowing when greeting his foster parents. Some folks mistake the smiling as aggression but that is not always the case and aggression is simply not in Ollie's make up. Ollie is smiling because he's happy his humans are home. Ollie does have reoccurring diarrhea that is relatively managed through his diet, but Ollie loves to eat anything so he's a good sport and will gobble up whatever is put in his bowl. The diarrhea may be caused by a tumor that was removed from his back end when he first came to IDR+, but the exact cause is unknown. Ollie typically sleeps on a dog bed at night but is insistent about climbing into bed if he hears fireworks, thunder or even rain. He is also terrified of children and we suspect this was due to previous abuse. Ollie can not be placed into a home where children live or even visit as it is simply too stressful for him and his anxiety will last far beyond the time the child is in the home. Halloween is an especially difficult day for our boy as he can hear the children outside and he becomes extremely upset which can lead to incontinence. There is no doubt about it, Ollie has a world of issues but he overcomes all of his physical problems and can't help but make his foster family smile. He is determined to enjoy life and that sort of spirit is contagious!
