Meet
Mr. Max, MAX!!
I've
got a MAXIMUM amount of love for you!!
Ready, Set... LET'S GO!!
...I'm
waiting...
Max
and another Dobe were reluctantly surrendered to IDR+ when
his dad was diagnosed with cancer and could no longer care
for them. Max is 8 years old, 80 pounds, and fawn. His thin
coat might fill out a little with supplements, but in the
meantime, he won’t contribute to vacuuming chores.
Our vet says he’s in pretty good shape for an older
guy. The lump on his throat is just a benign fatty cyst,
and his mobility is slowing down, expectedly. The surrender
paperwork says Max is friendly and affectionate with everyone
he meets. However, he has been picking on the older male
Dobe in the home with all of the extra stress, so his dad
requested they be split up to make placing them both easier.
He should be a better match with a female. When introduced
to the resident kitty, he ignored the cat, so hopefully
that continues in a forever home. Max is a very sweet, affectionate,
energetic and curious dog. In his foster home he is eating
well and taking fish oil supplements. He has done well with
crating when left alone and has not shredded anything in
his crate or in the house. He has been sleeping at night
in his dog bed next to his foster parents bed. He has proven
to be trustworthy at night and only leaves the bedroom to
get water. He is house trained and he has not had any accidents.
He potties only in the yard and has not pottied on any walks
so far. He is not allowed on the bed although has tried
getting up on it a few times and has been respectful since.
He does sit on one of the couches in the house and the couch
in the screened porch which is allowed in his foster home.
He will not go down the basement stairs although he was
told it’s ok. He does enjoy being outside but does
not seem to want to play with balls and frisbees and is
much more interested in birds, squirrels, chipmunks and
other wildlife in the yard. He hasn’t barked too much
since he’s been in his foster home and he’s
great with hugs, kisses and cuddling. Things Max needs to
work on walking without pulling and his interest in people
food. It is difficult to eat at table level because Max
is so tall and his face is right there by the food but he
is working on it. Max’s previous dad said he’d
be fine with kids 10 and up who are respectful with dogs
and would be best with a fenced in yard.
