The lovely Alexis is a little imp of a Dobergirl
who is 9 years young. She's only about 20" at the shoulder
& while she's underweight right now, she'll end up being
under 50 lbs. at a good weight. Like most of the seniors
we encounter at IDR, she's pretty much already the perfect
pet. She is well behaved, housebroken & crate trained.
She does not even attempt to get up on any furniture &
is content to rest on the many cushy dog beds on the floor.
She crates well, clean & not a peep out of her, content
to take a snooze & snack on a stuffed Kong. In a home
without pesky young dogs, she'd probably be fine loose while
you're gone, since her days of chewing & harming your
property are behind her. She was fostered in a home with
4 other dogs. She does well with the older dogs, tolerates
the obnoxious younger ones. Alexis would probably prefer
to live with other more mature dogs who aren't given to
tearing around at top speed. She does get a bit possessive
over food & bones with other dogs (not at all with people).
What she really loves is people, so she'd also be perfectly
content in a home without other dogs.
Miss Alexis' geriatric evaluation revealed
problems but IDR sees these as challenges! They say "...these
are the ones IDR loves to help. They deserve a chance at
having a wonderful life no matter their condition or age.
Here at IDR, we immediately thought: We can rebuild her
. . . we have the technology. Alexis will be better than
she was before; better, stronger, faster! Update 3/27/09:
Alexis had to have a mastectomy and will be recovering from
that for the next few weeks. We did a blood panel and chest
x-ray to make sure she was healthy for such a big surgery
and everything looked great. We did find out she also has
whipworms and heartworm. We will treat her for the heartworm
once she has recovered from surgery. This poor girl! All
together she will cost IDR about $1000 dollars. Alexis the
wigglebutt will now be renamed the 6 Million Dollar Senior.
GOOD on you IDR!!

by raising funds for their rescue programs. This helps
offset some of the additional costs that come with caring
for a senior (diet, medications, supplements, etc.). Please
read more about this program on the Sponsor
A Senior page.
Alexis is looking for a sponsor! The cost
to sponsor a Senior Dobe is $30 per month or $360 per
