White Lightning
WHITE
LIGHTNING
Mr. and Mrs. White are an older, Albino couple who have recently
won the lottery when the owners decided to give them up. After
living in an outdoor kennel run for several years, they were surrendered
to IDR because the owner couldn’t afford their care. The
effects of living outside and in the sun are obvious and numerous:
fly-bitten ears, open sores, tumors and many warts.
Albino dobermans require special preventative care,
and unfortunately Snowball and Lightning’s owners were unaware
of that. They have been assessed by our vets and both will require
at least two surgeries to correct the problems caused by neglect.
Despite their past, their personalities have been nothing but
wonderful and we feel that they are worth the large expense. Snowball
is 7 years old and Lightning is 10 years old, and they are looking
for a nice retirement home where they can stay together and live
in comfort.
Update on Lightning 7.30.2004:
Lightning had a much needed bath, a few weeks of
antibiotics, and then his first surgery. He has a tumor removed
that was cancerous, but localized. He was neutered and had a few
of the warts removed. He is doing very well and I am sure feeling
much better. He thanks everyone for the donations that have come
in to help him.
Ligthning Update 8.26.2004:
Doesn't he look comfy now? He just went in for surgery
again yesterday to remove the eye warts since as you can see in
the photo he is squinting.
Ligthning Update 9.04.2004:
Lightning had another surgery as the warts on his
eye were beginning to rub on his cornea. He had a dental and a
few other warts removed. He is now feeling great and is ready
for a new home.
Snowball update - 8.20.2004:
Well Snowball had her surgery on Friday. They called
me on Friday night from the vet while I was at the rehearsal dinner
to say her surgery took much longer than anticipated and she had
6 mammary tumors to remove instead of just 2. One of them was
enormous. She was on
the table about 2 hours. They did remove the eye warts but did
not have the time to do the tumor on her leg. She is doing well,
though poor Jenn had to deal with her over the weekend. I have
attached a few photos. She now is unwrapped and doing well. Still
has her legs taped together in the back as they are so afraid
of her splitting the stitches. She had no skin left to sew her
back together.
If you follow our site you know first hand that
we never deny a Doberman Pinscher entry into our program due to
medical issues. Lightning is no exception, even though we anticipate
large medical bills for his care. We will be accelerating our
fund raising efforts to cover the costs associated with bringing
this incredible dog back to the best that he can be. If you would
like to donate to Lightning’s medical fund, all donations
will be gratefully accepted and will be exclusively used to offset
the costs of his medical bills. We appreciate every contribution
and no donation is too small. IDR+ is an IL 501(c)3 charity, so
any donation to us is tax-deductible.
Update 10.02.2004: Snowball
has been adopted!!!
LIGHTNING I am sure you have been
following the story of Mr. and Mrs. White, our senior Albino couple.
Well, when the perfect home came along for Snowball, we decided
to take it. So now only Lightning is looking for a home. Lightning
spent the last several years living in an outdoor kennel run because
the owner could no longer afford his care. We took him in and
took care of all his medical concerns and now he is ready for
a home to call his own.
Lightning is 10 years old, but still very playful
and active. He has an adorable, happy, outgoing personality and
loves attention. He gets along well with large dogs, but cannot
be placed with small dogs or cats.
