Janie
was found wandering the woods in North Georgia. After a short
stay in animal control, she made her way to the rescue where we
discovered she was heartworm positive, had multiple growths, and
had an odd gait when she walked. We think she is about 7-9
years old. She has proven to be quite the challenge with her innocent
face and incredibly stubborn ways. Her life in the woods
has caused her to forever be in scavenger mode and she will counter
surf, raise the trash and rip a sandwich right out of your hand
given the chance. This behavior caused her to get a very dangerous
obstruction with her first foster just days after her heartworm
treatment. Her surgery was high risk and required a cardiologist
by her side through it all, but this girl is tough as nails and
pulled through. She is slowly improving through lots of
training, patience and consistency, but has a long way to go.
We have taken her to a neurologist to have her gait checked
out, and after an MRI she was diagnosed with Snake-Eye Myelopathy.
With treatment, she has about 1-3 years to live from diagnosis,
and since we have observed this gait for almost a year we expect
it to be on the shorter side.
Special
Needs if any: She has a neuordegenerative condition as described
above.
