Duke!
From what his rescue group can gather from his past, it seems Duke lived at several
autobody shops, and one owner kept him tied to a tree. Duke is a very sensitive boy so
this must have been very hard on him. When he came to Doberman Assistance, Rescue, & Education
(DAR&E) Duke had some pronounced problems moving. He stumbled a lot, his front legs bowed
out and he was very stiff in his neck. Tests showed that he had a strong case of Lymes disease
and he was placed on antibiotics. He'll finish those up this week and there has been marked
improvement. He's much more comfortable and can now walk/run without constantly tripping.
He's put on weight/muscle and he looks wonderful! There still is some residual stiffness,
probably due to some arthritis, but he's on meds for that and it doesn't seem to bother him.
Duke is a beautiful, older (around 8'ish) red, docked/cropped, neutered male Dobie.
He is a wonderful dog and there simply isn't a mean bone in his body. He LOVES people
and gets along well with other dogs, large and small. He's shown an interest in kitties,
but is such an easily-trained boy he might be able to co-exist with them with some work.
He's housetrained/cratetrained and is reliable loose in the house when his foster mom isn't home.
He loves his crate and will go there on his own to sleep at night. The crate door is never
closed anymore. He's an extremely affectionate Dobie who loves to be hugged and is never
far from his person's side. He will alert to strangers, but then runs up to give them a kiss.
Once he's given a clean bill of health, Duke will be looking for a very special home where
he will be kept warm and comfortable, with owners who will lavish him with love and lots
of hugs to help make up for the time when he had neither.
DAR&E places within the Maryland, DC, West Virginia and Virginia area.
