Hoosier!
We're thrilled to announce that Hoosier has found a new, loving
home! Read her Happy Tail below!
Hoosier
has been through the ringer. She was originally pulled from a
local shelter three years ago. Since that time and through no
fault of her own, she has had the misfortune of being placed
and returned four times. The first time, her owner was transferred
and could not find accommodations for her or his other dogs.
The second and third times she was returned by the military families
who adopted her, because they were leaving the service and did
not want to take her with them. The fourth family gave her up
because they were having a baby and THOUGHT the baby would be
in danger. We show great restraint by not editorializing on any
of the above rationales. Hoosier is currently in foster care
with the president of Doberman Rescue of Colorado, who is helping
her find a loving stable home to live out the rest of her life.
Hoosier is a gorgeous black and rust spayed Grand Dame of 9-10
years, with cropped ears and docked tail. She has special needs,
albeit minor, common ones. She is on thyroid and incontinence
medications, and has developed lick granulomas due to nerves
and stress. Dobe Rescue of Colorado believes the granulomas can
be cleared up, as they had healed them on one of her previous
stays.
This DoberGem gets along well with all people and children,
although children over 6 years would likely be a better fit with
her. Hoosier also gets along well with other dogs, especially
smaller and/or older ones. She can be a bit grumpy around overly
alpha or hyperactive dogs, and she definitely does not like cats.
She loves car rides, laying on the couch, and sneaking food – all
typical Dobe pastimes! She is basic obedience and house trained,
and can be crated but puts up a racket if she isn't wearing a
bark collar. Hoosier suffers from mild separation anxiety, which
manifests itself only in noise, not destructiveness, and she
can be left alone with no fear of returning to a demolished home.
She can also be vocal outside; she is protective and territorial,
but wisely so.
Hoosier has a bit of the ham in her. She participated in a television
taping for a local cable access show, and spent the entire time
sucking up to the hostess and making sure the camera caught her
best side. What a girl! Or should we say Diva?
Hoosier's Happy Tail of Adoption!
Hoosier was adopted by a lovely family who had
previously adopted from Doberman Rescue of Colorado. The family
was seeking a companion for Murphy, their other adopted senior.
Murphy was in the dumps after the loss of his previous companion.
He does very poorly as an only dog. Hoosier fit the bill. The
family also has two older children that Hoosier has seen fit
to supervise and mentor. Since her adoption, Hoosier's stress
level has decreased to the point that her lick granulomas are
almost gone and her incontinence medications have been reduced
to a minimum. The father is a contractor and takes Hoosier and
Murph to most job sites. The entire family, two and four-legged,
are thriving and grateful for the companionship each provides
the other.
Here's a special Hoosier tale: the daughter recently took Hoosier
for a walk and stopped at a local deli. She strapped Hoosier
to a railing at the door and went inside. Hoosier then proceeded
to chew through the leash and enter the deli. She found the daughter
and expressed her belief that young ladies should never go anywhere
unaccompanied!
