This handsome boy was recently rescued from a Southern California shelter;
he was emaciated and had horrible ear infections. He has come a long way in a short
time under the care of one of our volunteer foster moms. Killian is approximately
7 year old, red, cropped and docked, and neutered.
From initial observation, Killian has not had much attention in his 7 years,
but he is responding nicely to training. He is learning to walk on a leash and his housebreaking
is coming along well. Killian likes female dogs and so far seems indifferent to male dogs.
He is OK with cats that don't run. He may have too much energy for small children,
but would make a great jogging partner for an adult.
His neck is very long and skinny; a pinch collar works better for him than
a choke chain. He can wriggle out of collars that are too loose and harnesses too.
He needs a snug fit for whatever he is wearing.
The swelling in his ears is almost gone, although they still have
strange growths in them. He wanted to bite the vet when she tried to clean his ears,
even with a muzzle. It took 3 weeks to get him to let his caretaker put her
fingers/cotton ball in his ears. He is just very jumpy. He seemed to be scared of
the muzzle. His new person is going to have to be very patient.
But once his ears were getting cleaned, he made a little mumble sound,
similar to a cat purring. Seems like he will always have ear problems,
but he takes his medicine fine. He HATES the ear rinse, but loves the otimax ointment.
The lick granoloma on his left hind leg has started to heal. He stopped
licking about a week after he was rescued.
He has NO signs of arthritis. He jumps up into the truck,
gets up quickly from lying down, even on the patio. He shows no aggression to his
Doberman siblings. He can fetch and he lets you take the tennis ball right out of
his mouth
He walks right past cats that are lounging.
The cats don't freak when he comes along. But if a cat is running across the street
or up a tree, hold on!!!!
He gained 8 pounds since being in foster, but he most likely did not
put on more because he burns so many calories from jumping around all the time.
He does not chew or destroy anything even when left alone. He is fine with visitors.
