Dobes
helped from January to March, 2003
Thanks for
taking a moment to read about some of the Doberman lives SND has been fortunate
enough to help. The links below will take you to the pages that contain pictures
and stories about our SNDobes. The stories have been split up into separate
pages to make them easy to download (that's good, it means we have helped lots
of Dobes!). Please remember to read our Currently
In Need page for Dobes that need help now (there are Dobes there that will
come to this list when we're done helping them).

Pixie January,
2003
Pixie was the first Doberman Rescued from the Senior Doberman project. Her mom drove from Georgia to
Missouri to adopt her. Pixie was a wonderful girl and excellent companion, quickly settling in to her
new home. Unfortunately, Pixie had a cough which was diagnosed with lung cancer. SND provided the needed
assistance for Pixie to have the surgery that she needed, but sadly she lost her battle. Thankfully,
she did at least have time to enjoy 3 very happy months in her new home. To read more about Pixie, please

Ryder January,
2003
This
one year old boy in North Carolina was brought to our attention by SND member
and friend Dale Maddox Geddis. Dale is currently working on finding Ryder a
new home. In the meantime, the boy had an injury that SND was all to glad to
help Dale with. To her credit, much of the help was brought forward by Dale's
own efforts. Dale is the perfect example of a person coming to SND for assistance,
and using SND's resources to help their Dobes. Here is a description of Ryder
in Dale's own words:
"Ryder
is currently being taken care of by the loving and caring staff and doctors
here at Cabarrus Animal Hospital. He was struck by a car, breaking his right
front leg. To make matters worse, his owners decided to move out and leave him.
Ryder was found by the landlord four days later who in turn called Doberman
Rescue. While his leg is repairing, we will be screening applicants for his
new home. Ryder is a red and rust, 1 yr old male Doberman Pinscher. He has natural
ears and tail. Ryder is fully vaccinated, no heartworms and will be neutered
before final adoption."
Update 12/2/0 from Foster Mom, Dale
"I wanted to give an update
to everyone on the little man. Ryder's leg is healing nicely and we are holding
our breath that it will heal completely without the need of surgery to plate or
pin. We've got another 2-3 weeks before we'll know for sure. Say your prayers.
This little rough and tumble boy is just full of himself - just the adolescent boy
that he is and proves to me each and every day that he deserves no less than what
I promised him. A happy life. He interviewed a family last week that brought
along an undislosed child and was a little too excited about the prospect of
having such a small creature in the house so they were eliminated from the
process. I'm still trying to find my guy his forever home. Leaving
in about a half an hour to take him his turkey treats (small amount
if you know what I mean) and we'll sit on the comforter outside the
vet hospital and watch the birds and squirrels together. ***Broken
leg...can't walk too much***But I want him outside breathing the air
and getting some stimulation. I'll take him everyone's love and
kisses but he's rather be the 'Mighty Leaf Chaser in the Parking
Lot' and not get cooties. He's just a great little man."
July 25, 2003. We are deeply saddened to tell you that
Ryder has passed away. He was a very special little man, and will be
missed by many. Our deepest sympathies to you, Dale. You gave him
so much love and every possible chance.

Cleo January,
2003
Cyndi Swanson, a Dobe rescue person in Chapel Hill, NC brought Cleo to the attention of SND. She is
a 6 - 7 year old fawn female, docked and cropped, with one floppy ear, a decent coat for a fawn and
a great temperament. She had been displaced due to a divorce. Upon being brought to rescue, Cleo was
taken to the vet for an exam. She tested positive for heartworm and had mammary tumors, which
needed to come off immediately. SND members assisted with the cost of the surgery. The tumors were
removed and found to be benign, and now Cleo now has a new shapely figure. Cyndi said that you
couldn't tell she'd ever been bred! Cleo has been on Ivermectin since being taken into rescue, and
no longer shows symptoms of heartworm infection.

Chiquita January,
2003
Poor little Chiquita was thrown out the window of a moving car, at 6 weeks of age! She was rescued
and turned over to CARMA (Companion Animal Rescue and Medical Assistance) in Corrales, NM, where she
was immediately taken to a vet. While the X-rays initially showed nothing broken, the exam did show
a large inguinal hernia in her abdomen. The Vet said it would eventually need surgery to repair.
However, the hernia grew substantially larger within a 36 hour period so Chiquita went back to the
vet. The vet then found a fracture in the left front paw (requiring a soft cast) and a fracture in
the left back paw (hard cast) and scheduled surgery for the hernia. She came out of surgery without
any complications and has recovered nicely. We are also happy to report that Chiquita has been
adopted!

BG January,
2003
B.G. was an 8 year old blue Doberman, owned and loved by Scott in California. She died of cancer of
the liver and spleen on Christmas Eve, 2002, in the arms of Scott. Scott says that she was “his
Guardian Angel,” getting him through many of life’s difficulties. He said that her favorite place
was on his lap in their recliner. Although she could not be saved, happily, she was loved her whole
life.

Brady
January,
2003
This
adorable little girl named Brady is four weeks old in this picture when we first
met her. Gayle Hall with SC Dobe Rescue introduced us to the tyke. A cord from
the right aorta which is supposed to drop off after birth remained attached
and was wrapped around her esophagus. This prevented her from eating and put
her young life in danger. Emergency surgery was performed to save her. We're
asking for your help to make sure she can recover and begin her life as a loved
Dobe! The bills from the surgery came to $350, and we were very happy to be
able to help. Brady is doing great, thanks to everyone that chipped in!

Update 1/28/03 (Final Update)
Brady was adopted by Tiffany Gibson, one of the
vet techs who cared for her during her surgery. Tiffany says, "Brady, now 5 1/2
months old, is doing great. She still regurgitates often and eats special meals
elevated. She aquired megaesophagus due to her vascular anomalie. That certainly
does not keep her from acting like a normal puppy. She loves to play and run
circles around our other dog, Luna. I am so happy that Gayle Hall with Caradobe
Rescue and the people at Doberman911 gave her a chance for life. Most people
would have let her go at 4 weeks of age. We are so lucky to have her. She has
brought much joy to our lives. Thank you!" Tiffany was kind enough to share
a couple of new pictures of Brady. She played Santa at Christmas, and
enjoys napping with her kitty friend, Eddie.

Luke
January, 2003
Luke
is a 4.5 year old black/tan male in the care of the great folks at Gulf
Coast Doberman Rescue. GCDR had found this boy a new home when he went in
for what should have been a routine neutering operation. Severe complications
arose after the operations, and Luke's life was in jeopardy. Thanks to expert
care from GCDR and their vets, Luke is going to make it to his new home! We're
asking that you help us with Luke's recovery to make sure he gets back to be
a happy, loved Doberman! You can read his full story on Luke's
Page. He's doing great now and we'd like to thank everyone that helped us
help him!

Amber
January,
2003
Amber
is a 4-5 year old fawn who was found as a stray with her 12 newborn puppies.
Thankfully, she is under the expert and loving care of our friends at Gulf
Coast Doberman Rescue. Amber has had some complications since being rescued,
including severe hemorrhaging on Christmas day. She also has the blood clotting
disorder, von Willebrand's Disease (her vWD factor is 14%!). After some transfusions
and careful surgery to remove the source of her bleeding, Amber recovered nicely.
She has been taking care of her pups like the good mother she is. You can read
her full story on Amber's Page. Thanks to everyone
that donated money and bid on auction items to help out this family in need!

needs and to get the ball rolling on our more expensive cases. No donation is
too small and every bit helps. Thank you!!
