Joni!
|
Joni is a pretty, petite dobergirl, who found herself in a very bad situation.
Poor little Joni had been hit by a car, the femur in her rear leg, broken in several places. Her
owners took her to the vet and got it pinned, along with getting a long overdue
rabies vaccination, but did not provide the aftercare that she needed. They finally gave up
on her, and dumped her at the pound!
Four-year-old Joni's luck began to change when rescuer, Doris Ray, of Columbia, SC,
found out about her.
Doris rescued Joni from the shelter, and immediately got her to a vet. Along with
the broken leg, Joni was also battling pyrometria and a false pregnancy! She
also had x-rays taken, revealing a very nasty break! As Doris struggled to
raise funds for Joni's care, another rescuer told her about Special Needs Dobermans.
Doris contacted SND, "She is a sweet little girl, weighs in at 52 pounds.
She is a little too skinny. I think pyometra had a lot to do with it. She is
having a false pregnancy, too. Her spay incision is leaking some nasty
discharge, but she has been on antibiotics, and she is healing. Oh that
leg... She tries to use it. and when excited bunny-hops in and out of the
kennel door...! She doesn't know a stranger, and immediately attaches herself
to her caretakers! It seems the pin has been working its way out of the bone,
and is causing the biggest problem, aside from the leg being completely
unstable..."
