Rock!

Dear Rock!! What
A Gorgeous Guy!!
ROCK ON DUDE!!
UPDATE!!:
April 24, 2008. From dear Rock's Mom: "I
see you have an auction item out there for Rock. "Thanks for keeping his
case going... "Rock has really improved. My vet was over the other day
(she is a mobile vet so she comes to the house) and she was really surprised
at how good his mobility is. Since the weather has been good we have him out
on the harness a lot, and it used to be a long trek up and down the driveway
and now he is jogging with a bit smile on his face. Given his age, and everything
he's been through, it is really great to see. Judy"
UPDATE!!:
April 7, 2008. Rock wants to thank everyone who has helped his mom with his
super high vet bills. But, the bills are still awfully high and he's getting
a little worried his mom won't be able to pay them off. Rock's surgery was complicated
by Von Willebrand's and this drove the expenses even higher than they had been
projected to be. Rock's Mom is pretty special to him -- but, the only thing
he can do to help her is to tuck his teddy bear in with her at night... Please
help dear Rock help his deserving family in any way you can. THANKS!! ...from
Rock and SND!
**UPDATE** 9/6/2007 This update came in for Rock prior to our getting his case up. The diagnosis for Rock is cervical damage, not wobbler's. His surgery is scheduled for early October and will be done by the referral vet. The estimate is $3000.00 which includes the plasma, etc. his vWD. requires...however the surgical outlook is good.
When Rock's owners surrendered him to Hand Me Down Dobes in 2005 he was a neglect case with a barely registering thyroid. He went home with foster-mom Judy and it was only a matter of weeks on meds before the sparkle was back in his eyes. Once he felt better he set out to become part of this new family. Judy's husband's company shut their doors after 35 years. He was unemployed for 8 months, obviously a stressful time for him. Rock has a teddy bear he carries with him everywhere. It began to appear on 'Dad's' pillow at bedtime. Soon the time came when Judy began having troubled nights thinking about life without this loving boy. Soon she was awakening with his precious teddy tucked in her arm in the morning. His foster family became his forever home, because to know this boy is to love him. He is sweet, gentle, great with kids and animals; an all around great ambassador for the breed. Life has not been easy for this sweetheart though. Over the past year Judy and Brien have spent $5000.00 on his health care in addition to regular care costs. He has encountered and overcome chronic foot infections and bloat surgery. They hoped for time to recupe their resources, however their female dobe accidently knocked him down, causing an injury which only seemed to improve as days went by. Rock now has increasing trouble getting around. He staggers, falls sometimes and has a great problem with stairs. His vet sent him to a specialist who has made a preliminary diagnosis of Wobblers. Judy is presently waiting for the results of an MRI completed last week. Although his surgical odds are complicated by von Willebrand's Disease, he did very well during his bloat surgery. Judy says she knows he is a money pit and as treasurer of Hand Me Down Dobes is certainly aware of how many needy dobes are out there and the choices that have to be made.....but he is her heart dog. She will do whatever it takes, short of his suffering, to keep her darling boy with her. Judy, who gives much to the doberman community, is now asking our help in healing her 'heart'. Please help this wonderful dog find his feet again.
