Robert!

What follows is one of the most amazing stories of love and determination - even among Dobermans - that I've come across in a very long time. Robert is a 12yo. docked and natural blk/rust male Dobe who was rescued from an abusive household by Cindy, his Mom, five years ago. He shares his home with, as Cindy states 'a very fat cat', and all are happy. Seven months ago, Robert began to walk with one of his paws curled under and at the same point, started losing control of his bowels. Cindy immediately took Robert to his general vet, and the diagnosis was a ruptured disk. He had surgery on Feb. 20th and remained paralyzed for three weeks. Cindy consluted Robert's surgeon regading his lack of progress, and the decision was made that Robert have a second surgery; the Dr. felt that Robert was a viable canadate for the procedure. This was performed on March 12th. Robert has been receiving physical therapy since his second surgery at Back on Track Veterinary Rehabilitation under the watchful eyes of Dr. Shaw, who started Robert on a new regime of water/treadmill therapy. The results have been nothing short of miraculous. Robert now can stand independantly on his own and can take some steps with some balance assistance. Back on Track has fitted Robert with a walking cart, which he is able to use and is happy, but Dr. Shaw believes with continued therapy, Robert will be up on his own legs, possibly in 4-6wks. He is imporving and happier every day. Cindy has already incurred over $9000.00 in medical bills restoring Robert's health. She is asking SND for assistance with his last two months of rehabilitation, estimated at two to three thousand dollars. Please consider helping Cindy with the cost of Roberts' therapy!
