In this age of dump your dog when they are old, Special Needs Sanctuary takes them in so they can spent the rest of their lives in comfort. Hans is just one of twelve dogs, mostly dobes over the age of 10, that have been lucky enough to have found their way to Special Needs Sanctuary. However, a $2000 vet bill to save Hans' life because of bloating is a big hit for a small sanctuary, especially since they just paid off another huge bill for Hans' spinal surgery from wobbler's. The family, now retired and on a fixed income, is asking SND for help with Hans' medical needs so this spoiled boy can continue to watch Cartoon Network from his own bed.
